Fabulous Fan Lunch!
I wish I was there! Thanks for sending this in Sue! Miss you guys!
@PlatinumArchie (Lily), @erlindita (Linda) & myself (Sue) had an@SuzzyyFOD awesome time meeting for lunch today at Applebee’s in Palm Desert, CA. For the last few months, we’ve been trying to plan and meet up in a central location, as Linda lives a few hours away from Lily & I. We enjoyed a very yummy lunch and a fun afternoon, reminiscing about the Sounds of David event all three of us were able to attend this past April. Linda told us that she had not been able to go to one of David’s concerts yet! Thankfully, Lily brought along her laptop, so we all spent a couple hours perusing through tons of pictures from David’s concerts, book signings and also road trips that Lily & I had been fortunate enough to experience with some other fan friends. The employees at the restaurant couldn’t have been nicer, taking pics for us and refilling our drinks, as we sat there for several hours talking and laughing. One of the best things about David’s fanbase is getting to know other fans and finding out how much we all have in common. Can’t wait til we can meet up again for another fan lunch…and we’re especially hoping for a “Homecoming” concert when David returns in 2014.

We got another great fan encounter story to share with all of you! From Pam Pike
The first time when you meet David Archuleta he is so cute and his deep golden eyes are fascinating you can lose yourself in them. Your heart races and feels like it would burst out of your chest. It’s like hitting a home run over the center field fence. You can hardly breathe, and yes, most of us are swept off our feet.
I can’t recall when I had a more pleasant moment he was so easy to talk to. I suppose it might be difficult for some to identify what it is about David that attracts you to him. The combination of his charming personality, sense of humor and his good looks has a great presence.
During his 2008 Idol Tour in Kansas City I met him when the buses arrived that afternoon in front of the venue. My niece videoed taped our meeting and that video is still up on youtube and reminds me how fortunate I was to have given him a gift which included chapstick. A playful David graciously interacted with us and gave us a memorial first meeting by applying the chapstick as we all watched in fun. Two weeks later in Tulsa we again met and chapstick played a part in our discussion. He informed me he lost the first one, it rolled under his bunk so I retrieved another one from my bag and gave it to him. Ever since then I have made sure he has been supplied sufficiently with his favorite chapstick.
When I see him smile it makes life worthwhile and from the start he has been in my heart.
See the vid here! And send to our mailbox or to our FB page any fan encounter stories!

Photoshop Elements ~ You can do it too!
@_MissBianca is offering advice to anyone who wants to take the Photoshop Challenge. Warning ~ this is the technical part of my post today, but if you are serious about trying to learn the skills, read on! Bianca explained where to get the information to change the pic from this:
To something like this:
I asked Bianca if she could give me, and others like me who are not photoshop (small p) proficient. I don’t have Photoshop (big P) and use Paint, but it’s is very limiting. Bianca has created beautiful scrapbook pages, and her site has a number of tips.
For the contest we are running on FOD, she suggested using “Photoshop Elements”. You can even try it free for a month.
Here is the other advice she sent along:
The difference between Photoshop (PS) and Photoshop Elements (PSE) is that the full thing costs about 8 times as much. PSE is great—does plenty. More than enough for most people. The essence of these tools is that they use layers that can be independently manipulated to do your work. “Paint” does not use layers; it is fundamentally different. Anything Paint can do, PSE can do but not the other way around.
There are 3 PSE tutorials on my web site on this page:
If the intent is to combine photographs, here is a quick explanation of what to do
- Find the photos to combine
- Cut the image out of one or more of the photos (there are 2,000 ways to do this and all of them can be hard)
- Combine the images
- Resize the components of the final image so they are correct relative to each other.
- Recolor one or more of the components so they all go together.
- Add shadows, if desired, to make the composite look more natural.
- Use one or more filters, such as with Gaussian blur, to create a dreamy effect if desired.
There are tutorials on Adobe’s web site, here:http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/topics/getting-started-tutorials.html
And another here.
Bianca explained to me that most tutorials are technique based so you need to know understand the features of the tool you are using. In project such as the one above, you are looking for “How to Simulate Photoshop’s Layer Mask Function in Photoshop Elements”. On the other hand, Bianca’s tutorials are organized by what you want to achieve at the end.
I’m going to definitely try it! Thanks a million B for explaining it and for helping our readers out!
Send in your masterpiece by Saturday, August 3 by 6 pm EDT to email@example.com or tweet us at @fodfansofdavid ! Good luck!

It’s National Cheesecake Day!
Who determines these days? I did a search of our archives and “Cheesecake” is mentioned MANY times! Mostly associated with the Cheesecake Factory (for those not from the US, a popular food establishment known for massive portions and so many amazing flavours of cheesecake). And there might have been one or two references to Papa FOD’s well-known fondness for this dessert.
For example, there was this one tweet of David that was rumoured to have, but also may not have, involved the Cheesecake Factory.
And here is a story from Elena about the Baltimore CFTH show and a fan get-together at Cheesecake Factory. Original account can be found her: https://fansofdavid.com/archives/33313
“We thought it would be great to hear David’s music in CCF, and we gave a CD to our waiter. She saw the CD and said: Oh, David was here last night! He was there with the girl ( *as we know it was Syesha) but he did not order anything. Everybody immediately recognized David, but some staff wanted to verify if this is David. So they asked the girl who came with him: “Is this David Archuleta?” and the girl said: “Yes! “They had absolutely no idea that the girl was Syesha! Lots of people ran to David to get an autograph, and some people were crying. So what happened next was EPIC.
The waiter told David that there is a group of 40 FOD people made a reservation for the after the show dinner. And David wrote a note on the menu and asked the waiter to give it to us.!! ONLY DAVID CAN DO IT! Here is the note”:
The night was a complete blessing. It was EPIC, AMAZING!
I hear that today at CCF, a slice of cheesecake is half price. Woohoo!

Ask, and you shall receive!
I asked about Pittsburgh 2009 pictures yesterday, and Amy sent in a few and a great story! Thank you!
I think more vids were done at this concert than pics – it truly was an amazing show! Here’s the one of mine that is only “okay.” I also will include my VIP pic along with one of my bestest buds, Sherry. The VIP was something that goes down in my book of top 10 favorite moments in life. I sat up front, right in front of the keyboard, like a little kid, totally in awe of the spirit in front of me. I went to “Heaven” with “Crazy.” 😉
