My Kind of Christmas From the Heart… we are almost there!

Our setlist is nearing completion.  Just a few more days of voting left!  FOD had one of the most active evenings in awhile in hearing the suggestions for My Hands and O Holy Night.  Lots of opinions and passion for these two songs.  It was hard to narrow it down to these.

My Hands

As far as I am concerned, ALL vids should qualify for this vote.  When we finish the MKOCFTH concert, might I suggest a MyHandstour?  Yup, we could fill and hour or two!

#1  Credit: AOL Sessions. This is when I fell in love with this song. Strongest song of AOL Sessions, imo. 330,000 views baby!

#2.  Providence, RI.  Credit: Djbell 13.  David was so expressive, really used the stage that night!

#3:  York, PA  Credit: ktiitk York, PA. Listen to the first few notes. Perfection. Acoustic My Hands is always good!

#4:  Altar Bar.  Credit 8throwcentre. This one may set the acoustic standard. Where the heck did those runs come from in the a capella part? Anyone?

#5:  Delta Fair, Memphis, TN.  Credit:  YouCanCallMeTina.  Very intense.  Very focused.

O Holy Night

Are you sitting down?  These are all amazing.  Each one different.  Each one stunning. Each one will move you. David was born to sing O Holy Night.  Kudos to David and arranger Richard Parkinson.

#1 Waukegan.  Credit.  apmvp05.  Really great introduction.  Beautiful rendition.

#2: Club Nokia. Credit: mamezamd  Interesting vantage point. Full orchestra. David’s voice soars here.  Sound is different from this vantage point (a bit echo-y), but really suits this song.  The last 30 seconds will mezmorize you.  The most tender of tender endings.

#3: Kansas City Credit: Gengen.  While the last vid was taken from above, this one was taken from below, and with the white light and CO2 suspended in the background, this is heavenly.  Unrushed.  The quality of this vid is outstanding.

#4:  Salt Lake City, MKOC tour. Credit:  Pattycake04.  David has just complete announcing his mission, and then….he delivers this. How did he do it?  How did he compose himself.  The tenderness. The strength.   Setting the standard here….

#5: Cleveland, Credit: ArchuletaAvenue. Amazingly strong vocals. This vid is stunning in both audio and visual; the lighting is showcased during this song. A great all round experience in watching this vid.

Ending with More from Motab

It’s Rebekah’s birthday this week!  I remember because we celebrated it in Motab two years ago.  I ran across a wonderful recount of her Motab experience that I’m reprinting today.  Worth reading right to the end.  Joyful joyful.

Reflections of Gratitude ~ Rebekah/ Northernangel1

My MoTab experience began back in October when we learned that David would be joining the Mormon Tabernacle Choir as the special guest for their annual Christmas concerts. When I noticed what dates the concerts would be held, I knew this was something I HAD to do. You see, due to untimely weather and family commitments, I totally missed the CFTH tour. 🙁  I had never heard David sing Christmas songs live and all this was happening around my bday. After hoping and praying (admittedly) for tickets, I received the good news! I was elated!! So after a long 16 month dry spell of not going to a David show, I was headed to Utah!

What makes David’s concerts even more memorable is the connection we form with other fans. Those who feel as you do about his undeniable talent, sweet demeanor and giving spirit. It was wonderful spending time with all the other fans at luncheons, breakfast, cd signing and just hanging out before or after the shows. Thanks to all the awesome organizers of these gatherings. They were so much fun! I also want to thank those who made my bday so memorable (Pastel, Roxanne, Marcia, Vicki). Embarrassed as I was, it was fun sharing the special day with so many great people. 🙂  I’ve never had happy birthday sung to me so many times in one day. haha

The CD signing was a fun time to gather with fans and wait to have our quick moment with the man himself. Even though I’ve met David a few times, I still get those butterflies right before. He was all smiles and handled the pressure of getting to everyone like a pro. Believe it or not David, you’re a very good multitasker. 🙂  He was sharply dressed in a white t-shirt and black jacket, looking very much like a mature, almost 20 year old. It was fun to peak and watch David interact with his fans. He really is quite engaging. After being a dedicated fan for almost 3 years, I finally have a signed CD! A wonderful momento of an unforgettable weekend.

I had tickets for Saturday night and Sunday morning (thanks to the lovely Adrianne :)) performances. Up until that point, I hadn’t kept track of the previous shows. I wanted to be totally surprised and amazed at the same time. This was a difficult feat since the excitement around the shows was undeniable. Almost caving once (thanks Deb!), I decided that if I waited this long, what’s a couple more days.

The time finally came for the Saturday night performance! I could feel the excitement in the air as we lined up outside the Conference Center. I think we all knew we were about to witness something incredible. We finally started to file in and make our way to our seats. The moment I saw the glorious stage set up, it took my breath away! It was fun chatting with surrounding patrons. Most people knew of David from American Idol, but hadn’t kept track of him since. Boy, were they in for a surprise! I’m guessing after these MoTab shows, David gained a whole slew of new fans. Finally, it was time for the show to begin! When the orchestra and then choir took the stage, my tears started to flow. I was so happy to be there!

The moment David walked onto the stage, beaming with joy and eyes sparkling, I felt completely overjoyed! If you can imagine someone grinning from ear to ear with tears streaming down her face, that was me. I was just so darn proud of him! David’s voice filled the Conference Center with his beautifully pure tone and amazing vocal control. Oh how I missed his voice live! He looked very dapper in his fitted tux, green bowtie and vest. His hair was perfection. He looked at ease up on that stage with the amazing choir behind him and 21 thousand people in front of him, like that was where he should be. When David spoke between songs, his sweet personality really shined. Apparently there was a teleprompter, but David mostly spoke from his heart. You could tell he was extremely honored and happy to be there.

As you all know, David sang five songs, some with the choir and some on his own. Joy to the World was beautiful and exuberant, David’s voice shined above the choir’s. Next was The Cat and the Mouse Carol, a sweet lullaby. I had never heard of this song before, but it was the perfect choice for David to sing. His voice was so tender as he sweetly sang of the birth of Jesus. I’ve always wanted David to someday do an album of lullabies, this is a good example of why he should. Gesu bambino is a favorite, not as well known, Christmas song of mine. David’s key changes were incredible, as one note part way through sent chills up and down my spine. Los pastores a belen was an uplifting Spanish carol which David dedicated to his Latino heritage and all those who enjoy Latino music (raises hand!). He had so much fun with that song, as if he wanted to bust out into the bachata! lol The highlight of the show, in my opinion, was Silent Night. David glowed as his voice filled the space around us. With Sam and Richard’s (so proud of you!) beautiful arrangement, our hearts were taken to that perfect moment of Christ’s birth. It was overwhelmingly beautiful! At one point I said to the couple sitting next to me, this will be the most amazing Silent Night you will ever hear. They turned to me afterwards, with tears in their eyes, and said it was. I hope David saw the standing ovation his fans gave him after Silent Night on Saturday, that was our thank you to him. <3 The performance ended with a breathtaking Angels, from the Realms of Glory. Once again, David shined as he hit some notes that I didn’t even think were possible. It was glorious! After a long standing ovation, we all sat there for a moment taking it all in. The joy I felt in my heart that night will definitely be something I carry with me for a very long time.

Sunday’s performance started out cold and rainy, but that didn’t stop the warm smiles on everyone’s faces as we waited to go in. Thanks to the nice couple standing next to me who shared their umbrella, it was much appreciated! This was a different show, as it was a broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word. We got to see rehearsals, including David in his white shirt and tie, before the actual show. It was very well done! The only difficult part was not being able to clap after the songs, so the broadcast could run smoothly. Talk about challenge! It was nice to finally show our appreciation after the broadcast. Afterwards, the songs not included in the half hour broadcast were performed. We were informed that they needed to get a clean take of David’s Silent Night for the CD/DVD. Once again, no clapping until the conductor signals it’s ok. Just when I thought he couldn’t possibly top himself, David sang with such emotion, I felt it to the core. This time, David got a full, well deserved standing ovation. We were so grateful and proud of him! At the end of Sunday’s performance, they brought the special guests, conductor, and all those responsible for the fabulous production on stage for congratulations. David spoke heartfelt words of gratitude for the opportunity to perform with the choir. His face once again beamed as the choir sang their parting song, God Be With You Till We Meet Again.

Thank you to all the wonderful people who made the MoTab weekend so special, something I’ll never forget. Thanks to my family for allowing me to go and to Joanie, my travel partner and roomie. Sorry for almost losing you while taking pictures of all the pretty lights in Temple Square. 🙂

Thanks to all those who put together fan gatherings, helped us non-Utahns navigate downtown and all the small gestures of kindness. David’s fans are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met! Thank you to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for an amazing production. Besides David, the dancing was a highlight for me. Thank you to David for sharing his beautiful voice and uplifting spirit. You bring joy to the hearts of so many. Thanks for sharing your special gift! Have a blessed Christmas and happy holidays everyone!

It has beenq uite a while since I posted but just know that I follow often and so appreciate all of you for your dedication to this fan site.

I just listened to the SLC O Holy Night and to be truthful, I can barely see the keyboard to type. I am so overwhelmed by the power of this song from David. I see it as his gift to us to help us understand his decision to serve a mission. I believe that he truly believes and lives to his best ability the words of this beautiful Christmas song. And I want to do the same. Thank you, Pastel, for posting all these versions of O Holy Night and especially the SLC one. Hard to watch but so worth it to me. I think it was through sheer love that David was able to perform this song that night.

  41. sarahhazel says:

  53. I'm a Mormon says:

sarahhazel, you are right. As I think about it I need to post a postscript to Pastel on my vote. I was already to vote for #3 the Kansas City performance, when I read the heading to the poll: “I was moved when I heard O Holy Night” performed where?” So Pastel, just so you know, if you had phrased the question, “which performance would you like to see on the virtual concert?” my answer would have been different:) That night should be all about fun memories.

Nevertheless, I needed to hear David’s performance in Salt Lake City today. After the emotions of the past few days, I needed to hear the love, hope and peace that performance brought to me. Thank you again!

  54. breanne says:

THANKS for the post Pastel!! I was at the SLC show when David made his mission announcement and then sang O Holy Night. I will never forget it as long as I live!! So emotional, beautiful and spirtual!! Still get tears in my eyes when I watch that video.

  64. Shanny in Australia says:

    Hi peeps. 🙂
I have a few moments and would love to see the HD version of the prayer everyone keeps talking about. Is there a link in yesterday’s comments or does anyone have a link handy please? It’s just a bit of a pain to have to go trawling through several days worth of comments to find it.

I’m a Mormon….I love love love the SLC version of OHN too – the song has sooo much more meaning to it considering how he basically just finished saying… ‘I’m going to risk everything for the Lord’. (Of course some people don’t agree with that on several different levels but no matter what people think of the situation, David’s sincerity is real and that’s my point). And the fact that he managed to still sing it with so much eloquence and power under such emotional circumstances blows me away. But you are right…as special as that performance is, it’s not the right one for the virtual concert. I’m gonna try and watch the OHN vids sometime today. Thank you David for even bringing your gloriousness to that special song.

Crazy to think the Mister is going to be 22 next week! He’s getting old alright! 🙂

  65. Pastel says:

Hi “I’m A Mormon”! Thanks for commenting today! Sorry about the confusion about the title of the poll for OHN. Indeed, the intent of all the poll is to determine what songs go on the MKOCFTH setlist. This is in keeping with the polls we have been doing daily for the last 2 weeks. I try to be creative about the title of the poll only because I’m sure you are all getting bored with the same phrases, but I understand your point re: lack of clarity.

Only 4 more songs left to complete the set-list. Trying out the technology tonight. Wish us luck lol

  66. Bychance says:

SLC Oh, Holy NIght was the first thing I saw when I went looking up info about David last year. I remember asking myself “How in the world did he just do that?” I was so impressed by his courage, faith, and unbelievable talent and professionalism to make that announcement, and then go on to sing so incredibly beautifully. I was in absolute awe, and knew I wanted to know more about this young man. “I’m a Mormon”, I think you just answered my question of how he did it……out of sheer love. Yes. Thank you.

  67. Bychance says:

Shanny, if I had an ounce of computer savvy I would bring you the link to the HD OHN, but will have to hope someone else can! It was in yesterday’s comments so shouldn’t be too hard to find. McKenzie Harris posted it, I think. I have saved and watched it a hundred times already, I’m quite sure! Enjoy!!

  68. Rapport says:

Hello Everyone! Hope you all are doing well!

  84. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

Hey Linda! I wanted a haircut when I was 5 years old, told my brother to give me a PRETEND haircut, I had bangs & my hair went down to my waist, when my brother was done with my PRETEND haircut, my bangs were half way up my forhead in triangle shapes & the rest of the hair was cut up half way up my back, with triangle shapes. Be grateful your grandson asked for a haircut, instead of taking care of it himself 😆

  85. sarahhazel says:

Linda–sounds like a nice family bonding time! 🙂

Evening all. Pastel, so hard to choose. All so good. Loved reading Rebekah’s story and seeing the picture of the fans in SLC. Can’t wait to see the virtual concert. Going to vote now. Been cooking all day. BBL

  89. Hi beth!! yeah your right.
Sarah!! It was nice having them here all at once, doesn’t happen too often.
I started my voting, but not done. I’m off tomorrow so i have a lot of time to vote aaa7 catch up.
Has anyone heard anything about the RAINBOW MV. What ever happen to that SOON they were talking about? just curious, i have my cd but would love for everyone else to see it,
Wish we could ask Jon Danza.

  90. Sorry don’t know what that aaa7 was, Typing in the dark.

  91. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

Linda, 😀 I’m not sure about the video, I thought the soon was as in soon you will get the cd/vid, not sure when it will be public.

  92. Beth, ok, i must of misunderstood.

Sarah–I just voted 200 on musiqtone. I will try and vote again before i go to bed if it lets me.

  93. supergrandjudie#DA2014 says:

For some reason, I’m not coming up with a place to vote for MH or OHN. I keep looking but I can’t see it. Where are the polls??

  94. Lurker says:

WETA is airing GCT on Christmas Day at 10:00 AM ET. Hmm, wonder whether they will actually show David’s “Silent Night”.

“A Christmas celebration with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir at Salt Lake City’s Conference Center, where songs include “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World.” Also, 2008 “American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta sings “Los Pastores a Belén.”

  95. supergrandjudie#DA2014 says:

😆 😆 Nevermind. I swear there are gremlins in my comp. I went back up and there were the polls under each segment of videos. Hmmmm

  96. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

    Hi Linda

  99. Lucy says:

I mentioned having a summer virtual concert if the Christmas one goes well in yesterday’s comments, no one responded and I see that today someone said the same thing and they got a response, oh well it would be fun to do…

  100. Lucy, i think it would be fun too. Sorry o missed some of the comments yesterday.

SGJ!! showed my daughter Davids Christmas ornament. She said it was very nice of you.

  101. supergrandjudie#DA2014 says:

Linda, Glad your daughter likes it. I was off voting on Q102. I just left and it’ was D 50.00 and K 50.00 I have to go to bed now, so maybe someone wants to keep it going for D.

  102. Bychance says:

Lucy….I think a summer virtual concert is a fun idea! Maybe see how this one goes. I actually will be on an airplane during the MKOCFTH concert, but I hope it is a smashing success! Voting for songs has been fun, anyway.

Linda….tonight I went to my youtube account and they have a place for “you might also like”‘ and there was the Rainbow vid! I was completely surprised. Does this mean it’s out or that someone has just put it on YouTube? Must be the latter……I don’t know.

  103. supergrandjudie#DA2014 says:

Linda, okay I just went back to Q102 and voted a few more times. Got to go now. Goodnight everyone. See you tomorrow.

  107. Bychance says:

Thanks, Linda…..going to be with family for Christmas in SLC. ….it’s weird not having everyone at our house, but it will still be great. I Love to see the Utah mountains, too.

In fact, that reminds me that when we were in Santiage, Chili about five years ago (yes, i have been there once with hubby on busuness), I remembered thinking it reminded me a lot of SLC with the beautiful snow capped mountains around it. Maybe they will help David feel more like home.

  108. kimk says:

But he’s a sweetie, so worth it …..always felt kinda bad for him, though…..did a half birthday in June a couple years. Well……I am rambling and saying nothing….time for bed! Goodnight and sweet DavidChiliChristmas dreams!

  111. Goodnight Kimk, By Chance, Hello Miss Vicki.

I also have a grandson who has a B-day Dec 22. By-chance you are right, they are so good about not having a big celebration because of the holidays.

  112. OoO says:

Thank you so much to all of the staff and the contributors of FOD for the information and videos which constantly remind me how wonderful a person and how extraordinary a talent David is. I so much enjoy all of them, including the SLC “My Kind of Cthristmas from the Heart” concert shown in its entirety on FOD above. It just made my Christmas season all the more special. I appreciate all that you do for us fans. Merry Christmas to you all.
