Quirks & Perks!
Talk about leaving it all on the stage! David gave his whole heart and soul sharing his music with us. It was a thrill to hear songs from the new album – these live versions are every bit as amazing as you imagined – get thee to a concert ASAP!!!
When David was talking about his songs, he bumped into the keyboard almost knocking it over and he quipped “That’s me – with all the quirks and perks that come with David” 🙂
Throw Your Words Into The World
SOLD OUT BABY! That’s what we love to see because it means a full house for David and a rockin’ good time for fans! I’ve said this hundreds of times, but only because it’s true – there is nothing like a live David Archuleta concert! N.O.T.H.I.N.G!
While singing along to the cd in your car is fun, and putting on headphones to listen to every nuance in his incredible vocals is sublime, nothing beats being in a concert venue surrounded by ArchuBuddies with the live band kicking up the beat and David throwing down lyrics that speak a truth he holds dear – he is done pretending to be anything and anyone other than the 100% genuine article; this is the real David with all the quirks and perks that come with the territory, and if you’re not ok with that, then feel free to unfollow at any time… Mr. Sasschuleta has arrived!
The minute we arrived at the venue, fans were already pumped and ready for the show! When the doors opened, everyone found the merch table where Amber and Emily graciously helped us purchase the new Postcards in the Sky cd as well as other David items – there was a new “Invincible” t-shirt and another concert shirt featuring a very nice, (and very large) photo of David lol.
The venue was unusual as it was normally a movie theater, so the concession stand was open, and we could buy popcorn, pizza and drinks to enjoy during the show! Cabaret tables in the front section provided a place to store our snacks as well as cameras, phones and merch so that our hands and arms would be free to wave in the air or fist pump to Thunder!
I was lucky to be in the first row of tables, along with the usual suspects lol – Joanie and Pastel were front and center with Shelley and Lisa, and they all got some amazing videos! Muldur (8throwcenter) was actually 2ndrowcenter for this show along with Donna who did a periscope during the concert. So across the fanbase there was good representation and pics and vids to share with those who could not be there in person. For whatever reason, I have not yet found a vid of Nunca Pense, where David was off the charts energy! Spanish never sounded so good, and he got into a little salsa groove with Desmond that proves without a doubt that the man can DANCE!
The set list followed pretty much the same order as the previous shows, and when the lights went down and David hit the stage to sing Up All Night, the crowd went wild and stood up and made some noise! It was a nice welcome home to Nashville, and of course David was flawless!
David Archuleta Talks About His Songs Coming Home to Nashville (credit: fansofdavidvideos)
Mirroring the previous shows, David told a lot of stories and talked a lot about his inspiration for writing the songs for Postcards in the Sky – all of the songs were written in Nashville, so it was a homecoming of sorts, and David was clearly emotional speaking about the origins of the songs and thanking the many writers and producers who were in the audience! David has since posted on IG, introducing us to the writers and producers who helped bring the album to life – in fact, the most recent IG post introduces Trent Dabbs, otherwise known as OUR HERO who helped write 3 songs on the album!
The wonderful @trentdabbs . So here's the story with him: Trent took part in writing 3 songs on the new album with me: "Say Me," "Other Things in Sight," and "Numb." If I'm not mistaken, Trent may have been the first person I met with in Nashville to start writing when I got back from my mission. That first day we met the idea for "Say Me" came about. We needed a little extra inspiration after we had the first verse, and so called up writer/producer Jeremy Bose and went over to his studio to finish the song. The same trio for "Say Me" brought the throwback groovin' "Other Things in Sight." Speaking to Trent that first day helped me realize I could speak about how important my mission was and to keep that change in me incorporated in my life and keep it going. The most pivotal writing moment I've had so far was probably with Trent and producer/writer @jskenney writing "Numb" where I realized I could incorporate those changes not only into my personal life, but into my music. When I wanted to quit on music to stay away from a place that left me feeling so empty before, speaking with Trent and Jamie helped me realize God could be a part of every moment and everything that I did, and there were people like them I could team up with to make it happen. Working with Trent was the beginning of me finding that I could be heard speaking up about what mattered most to me, and that my own voice was important. Thanks Trent for being a positive influence in this journey I've been on the past few years! Thanks for listening to how important spirituality and God being a part of everything I do is to me, and helping me find a way to express that in music. #storytime #postcardsinthesky #songwriting #trentdabbs
If I had to guess, I’d say it was a 50/50 split between talking and singing! He kept apologizing for rambling on, but we sure didn’t mind! I’d love to go to a “Talking Concert” where all he does is tell us stories about his life and what inspires him. SIGN ME UP!
Trent Dabbs co-wrote Other Things In Sight – the retro-groovin’ tune that shows the soulful side of David and I guess he was wearing his sassy pants that night because when he sang OTIS he was declaring his freedom from caring about what other people thought of him or his choices – he basically gives ZERO FIGS – so again, if you don’t like it, there’s an unfollow button just for you!

Another favorite from the album is Spotlight Down, where David explains how he felt he had lost himself after American Idol, and it took 2 years away from the spotlight to help him understand that his opinions mattered and that he could do music his own way and have a happy life. On another note, David answered the $64 million dollar question regarding the “mystery lyrics” that had been plaguing the fandom since the album dropped – is it “Here on the rock”? or “But on or off”? Joanie asked him on his IG post introducing Isabeau and Shaun, and David responded!

The new songs were amazing and the covers of Higher Ground, He Lives In You and Beautiful/Scars to Your Beautiful brought the crowd to its feet, dancing and singing along with David, but it was the throwback medley of Running, My Hands, Works For Me and my all time fave, ALTNOY that brought the feels and transported us back to Solo Tour and the Summer Tour with Demi when David’s star was on the rise and everything was exciting and new! Those were the days!

As the evening came to a close and David returned to the stage for the encore, he took time to thank the fans who had stuck by him the whole time and who were still with him today to celebrate the new album. He was clearly emotional and there wasn’t a dry eye in the venue when he teared up and sincerely thanked the fans and everyone who had supported him on this journey – it was truly Glorious.

David closed the show with his signature song Crush, and everyone was on their feet singing along! What a night it was – helping David to celebrate Postcards in the Sky, surrounded by long time friends and some brand new ones too! It will be a night to remember for sure, and it’s been just shy of a week since the concert, and the ArchuBlues have kicked in big time!
David ended the night by running across the front of the stage shaking the hands of everyone who ran up front – no matter how many concerts I attend, I will NEVER get tired of David High-Fiving his fans at the end of a show!
Thank you David for a night to remember – it was one for the history books, and we can’t wait to see you again at the next concert! And for those who have yet to attend a live concert, try to get to one as soon as you can!
