Semi-Silent Saturday

It started out as a pretty normal day – fans were tweeting about the extra tight security at the 2nd night of Idaho Falls, and there was some speculation about whether vids would be allowed at Layton – after all it is an open air venue with about 3/4 of the audience seated on the grass – a bit tough to monitor every single camera and cell phone right?

The Archies were packed up and on the road, tweeting their progress on their way to Layton – the air was filled with excitement and anticipation!  Davis Arts Council hid the last pair of concert tix!

The lines were long with people waiting patiently with their lawn chairs, and an atmosphere of fun and celebration filled the air! Archies are used to waiting in long lines!

It was exciting to see the concert poster welcoming fans inside the venue, and David’s new merch looked great hanging up so fans could get a good look at all the options!

Fans started filing into the venue to settle in and look for their seats. Looks like David’s family was there to support him!

Then Gracie took the stage to start the show!

It seemed that everything was going well – the audience was having fun and the weather was gorgeous, like it was ordered special for an outdoor concert!  Things were perfect!  You know what they say about Murphy’s Law….

We should have seen the signs that things were not quite right….

Intermission was over, and it was finally time for David to take the stage! Excitement filled the air and some fans fired up their Periscopes!  Twitter was filled with  cyber-chanting DA-VID,  DA-VID, DA-VID, DA-VID!!!

But again, something was not quite right….

Soon it became evident that David was not feeling well and that his voice was not 100% – but he was a trooper and went back out on stage to try and finish the show – he even mentions food!

The gravity of the situation became obvious when he could no longer sing and, instead, spoke the lyrics to MKOP – it was clear that David would not be able to finish the concert. 🙁

Twitter was on fire with everyone tweeting their concern and looking for answers – I was actually a bundle of nerves wondering if David was ok? Had he pushed himself too hard in the first 2 concerts to meet fans’ high expectations?

Shelley had mentioned that he was on vocal rest when they found him at the Tractor park – should he have only scheduled one Layton concert on Monday to give his voice time to recuperate? There were lots of questions, but very few answers.

Then the magic happened…. people didn’t boo him, they didn’t get up and leave or start demanding their money back.  Instead, in a show of love and support for this amazing artist, the audience stood up, held their cell phones in the air, lighting the darkened amphitheater so that it looked like a sea of twinkling stars – and they began singing along with David – lending their voices when he had none left to give.

Like a bridge over troubled water… I will lay me down….

After the concert ended, David was seen by a Doctor, and because there is a silver lining in every dark cloud, an announcement was made that David would be performing Christmas shows and everyone in the audience would be able to purchase a half-price ticket!

Repeat after me:

Thank goodness Mietra has a sense of humor and knew exactly what the Archies needed in that moment:

For a guy with the flu and pretty much no voice left, he looks great! 🙂

A Thank You From David

After all the worrying and hand wringing and freaking out over David’s health, the Man himself sent the tweet everyone was waiting for:

DA Thx

And he still managed to keep a sense of humor about it all!  He is definitely one in a million, and I am so proud to be a fan.  If anyone is still wondering why we waited all these years for David to return to music – well this is it!

Tonight David gave us a gift – but not the usual gift that comes wrapped up in the perfection of his beautiful voice soaring to the heavens, this was something a little bit different.  Many fans have proclaimed how David and his music have changed their lives for the better – brightened up a dark day, lifted their spirits, set them back on a positive path and basically made this world a better place.

Tonight, we were able to return the favor – we got to be the ones coming to save the day – by the simple lifting of our voices in unison with his.

Thank you David, you taught us well.

One Layton Vid So Far

I’m not anticipating many vids from the 1st Layton show as most people weren’t recording in deference to David not feeling well and his voice being rather hoarse. However, this partial vid of Somewhere Only We Know is pretty excellent!

There are also a few more vids from Idaho Falls!

It’s been a long night filled with ups and downs like a wild roller coaster ride!  But it was so heartwarming to see Archies helping each other with tickets or rides to get where they needed to go or just plain hanging out together and having fun!

David gets a full day of rest which he definitely needs!  We’ll see what the status of the Monday concert is and tweet it out to everyone.  Keep sharing your stories, pics and vids – we love hearing about your concert adventures!  Especially those of us who can only be there in spirit!

Joanie will be back next week with the Tuesday post and all the Monday concert pics, vids & fan stories!  Enjoy!

  1. Marylee~NorthCarolinaGirl says:

Wonderful post, Kalei ~ thank you! God Bless David and that incredible gift of a voice he has. SO touched by the way the crowd rallied around him and helped him make the best of his night with them. That’s what family, friends & fans are for! Keeping him in my prayers and I hope he feels all the love coming his way. ❤️

  2. CJ says:

Beautiful post! Im teary eyed but with a big smile on my face. Thank you, Kalei.

  3. Shanny in Australia says:

I agree – a wonderfully perfect post Kalei!!!! Thanks for staying up all night to put it together for us!

And yes – I can see so much beauty in all of this. The mutual care for fan and artist. “Like a bridge over troubled water – I will lay me down”. And Glorious. What perfect messages for him to choose to go out on and leave with that crowd of good people who reached out to him in love and concern and support in return. I hope our guy is doing ok.

    • CJ says:

If this had to happen, I’m glad it happened near home, surrounded by those who care about him and who showed their love to him.

      • Shanny in Australia says:

Reminds me of when we used to have an old huckery van that would break down all the time. I marvelled at how it only ever happened close to home and/or help. Felt like we were being watched over in our troubles.

I’m glad he had so much of his family there!

    • Kalei says:

Thanks Shanny – it really was amazing and I’m glad he was in Utah surrounded by family & friends. I wish there was vid of him speaking the lyrics to MKOP!

  4. Ali says:

What a detailed recap — thank you so much Kalei!! Sending wishes to get well quick to David.

Snowangelzz was there last night as well and wrote a little recap of what happened
A few of my favorite parts:

“Anyways, he spoke about some really meaningful things tonight … but joking and laughing and rambling in classic David fashion, but with a new maturity and sense of purpose.

He closed the show early with a beautiful, different version of BOTW and then Glorious and I was glad to see from his tweet that he felt he love and support of the whole crowd there.

… His voice has always been a precious gift… every song we get to hear him sing is a blessing, in my view.

I just want him to be well and happy and to know that he has so many people in his corner around the world.”

  5. Ali says:

I YELLED ‘I LOVE YOU!’ AND HE SAID ‘THANK YOU!!’ *heart eyes* how was your weekend?! @davidarchie

    • Shanny in Australia says:

Hah, I once yelled that out to John Mayer in concert, while it was quiet. Then my husband yelled something and john responded back. Can’t remember what though.

It crossed my mind to yell out ‘love you David’ at TOFW too but in David’s case I thought better of it. Lol.

It is fun when he says thank you to people yelling that out though. 🙂

      • CJ says:

Really, to John Mayer in front of the hubby? Cheeky girl! If you ever remember that exchange I hope you share it. Lol

        • Shanny in Australia says:

Haha, hubby knew it was just silly fun stuff.
I just remember John was fussing with his guitar when i yelled out, you could tell he heard by his body language but he didn’t say anything in response. Then my husband yelled out twice, something like ‘hey John boy’ or some such thing and then John said something short in reference to it being a male voice yelling out. He mumbled it a bit and I didn’t catch it – so that’s probably why it hasn’t stuck in my mind properly – but everyone around us laughed when he said it and looked at my husband. My husband told me what he said…but like I said, I can’t remember the exact words.

  6. Ali says:

LITERALLY THE BEST NIGHT OF MY ENTIRE LIFE! David, thank you for the great show! feel better soon! we will see you in December! @davidarchie

Sep 19, 2015: Concert at Kenley Ampitheater, Layton, Utah https://davnphotos.wordpress.com/2015/09/20/sep-19-2015-concert-at-kenley-ampitheater-layton-utah/

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

Oh, she gave me credit for the photos and the only one that’s mine is the stage. I wasn’t lucky to get such nice pictures of David.

  23. Janel aka Nellie says:

Saying some prayers for David. He is sick with the flu so last night at the concert he struggled through some of the songs. He was grateful we stuck through and stayed at the concert even though his voice wasn’t up to par. He had to speak through some of the notes and almost all of My Kind of Perfect. He took a break then came out and sang a couple more songs. One of which was Bridge Over Troubled Water. That was the song I wanted him to sing most last night so I was praying while he was singing. God definitely gave him some extra voice strength on that one because he sang it beautifully and all the way through. When he left the stage the fans decided not to cheer for an encore so he could go rest but he came out anyways. He sang Glorious and had us all sing along with him.
Just before he sang (or spoke) MKOP, a girl from the audience yelled “I love you.” He said thank you and that was sweet but “I don’t know you.” LOL. He said that he always thought that was weird that people yell that from the audience. Well, as an older fan and from what I know from fans around my age and even older we all love David, but it’s an adoration and an appreciation for the kind of young man he is, not a romantic love. He’s an example of how we should be and act for people of all ages to follow. His voice is the most beautiful all of us have ever heard and experienced. What’s not to love? So for his family members, pass on this message; we love him and he deserves the love he gets from the fans. Also tell him we’re praying for him to get well quickly. God bless him!

  24. Shanny in Australia says:

Kim, well at TOFW I was up front and therefore too noticeable but put me in a more anonymous spot like at Tuacahn….well ….I wouldn’t put it past myself to yell it out. Lolol. ~ Shrug~ Hey why not!

    • Shanny in Australia says:

Haha! Well after what you just posted Janel, maybe I won’t at Tuacahn afterall!! Lolol. But then come on….if no-one ever fussed over him a little it would be a sad world indeed. Sometimes I think this stuff might make him feel awkward for a second but it’s still good for his soul!

  25. Janel aka Nellie says:

In case anyone still wonders, yes David is sick, it’s not just voice strain. Gina and Kari are sick too, and Kari said some of the band members. Gina told us Kendra was starting to get sick too with a sore throat, but when David was taking a break, she and the band sang “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder. It was really good. Couldn’t tell any of them were sick.

  26. IMO says:

Next time david get sick during concerts , he need to cancel it or postponed and take care himself. He need learn to say no.

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

Yeah well he’s a big boy and people didn’t tell him what to do. There was no saying “no” to someone. It was his choice to do it or not. He knew he was sick. It was his choice to do the concert because he didn’t want to disappoint fans and wanted to do his first Utah concert. It also was not disappointing. We felt sad for him that he was sick, but he managed to sing through some of the songs with key and note changes, harmonizing with lower notes on some instead of the melody while Kendra took the melody. I for one enjoyed it and enjoyed his stories and thoughts he shared with us along with the singing.
As for Monday who knows if he’ll be better, but cancelling the show will be his choice and if he wants to try it again, not anyone else he has to say “no” or “yes” to. Prayers to him to get through it if he decides to not cancel.

      • IMO says:

It no good to preform while a singer is really sick even with flu. Everyone should know that and david himself too. I am sure he wanted to cancel it but he didn’t want hurt the fans feeling.

        • IMO says:

Even singers don’t perform when they are sick either. David should worry about himself not the fans and the show, like I said before he didn’t want fans to get upset . David should have been resting all day yesturday and stay home, it me that is A important

      • IMO says:

Janel, we all don’t know how it went with david being sick and how he really felt and beind the scenes if he really want to to be preform and still no, I was just posting my opinions and janel , u need to stop being miss know it all okay.

        • Janel aka Nellie says:

Miss know it all? Really? I suppose you were there at the concert and saw what happened and talked to both Kari and Gina? I don’t propose to know it all, I’m just telling what I saw and what we were told and what David said himself. Keep your opinions to yourself if they include slamming others and name calling for what they say.

        • IMO says:

Well yes U do sometimes how I see it and And when I posting my opinion on here , keep your opinion to yourself and don’t read it too okay, I have done nothing to u. Yes I know david was really sick, I read it here thousand of times on here , I am not dumb.

    • josie says:

He’s never listened before..why start now? lol.

  27. IMO says:

David and band all sick, def a no concert tomm but I would surprise if the show will go on tomm.

  28. Beth, Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd says:

    Hello Everyone!
Thank You Kalei for a FANtastic post, FOD is the best of the best 😀

Well, I hope David, Kari, Kendra & the other band members get well sooner
that soon. It happens like that, when you’re with a group of people a lot,
everyone gets it. Sometimes you know an illness is coming, but you think
you can do what you need to do & then bam, there it is & you feel like crap.
David has all of those people coming & he didn’t want to disappoint him, the
show must go on feeling. He has done that in the past. Being sick & the time
he hurt his back, doing the VIP while holding an ice pack on his back. Coming
from someone who has back issues, sometimes standing is the worst & sometimes
sitting is the worst, but he did it & believe me it’s incredibly difficult. I’m not
trying to dismiss anyone’s thoughts & soon as I heard he was sick, I wanted him
off that stage, but he did what he could, his best. I love that the crowd helped him
through it. What a beautiful thing to see 😀

David, please take care of yourself & just rest. Drink plenty of OJ & water. Oh &
chicken soup (forgive me for say that, boys 🙄 😀 ) Not everyone yelling I
love you mean it in a romantic sense, lol, well, some do, hehe, but others just care
about you as a fellow human being, beings who are grateful for you being you 😀

Thank You Shelly & Rona!!!!!!!!!!! for the Nunca Pense videos, watched them
about 5 times. LOVE that song!

  29. CJ says:

What will be will be. I prefer to bask a little more in the afterglow of love from last night.

  30. Anne-Marie says:

All we can do is keep him in our thoughts & prayers and that he does what HE feels is right for him. (And the band too!)

Will check back in later folks. Watching the Bills vs Patriots game! GO BILLS!! Lol. (Yes kind of excited about this game!)

  31. Beth, Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd says:

Going to go relax & watch the Viking game & if I dose off for a
nap, well, that’s ok too, lol. Take Care All, TTYL 😀

  32. IMO says:

Janel, everytime I post my opinion on here u come here bash at me and I just stating my opinion and what my thoughts, I can tell u don’t like me at all and sometimes I think that u are better than everyone here and u think u are miss know it all about david, I hate break to u but all fans here don’t know david personally and what go behind the closed door on david too, how I see it and feel about it?

  33. CJ says:

Nah, not taking the bait. Love ya, Janel! Taking a break. bbl

  34. IMO says:

Agsin I done what I have to say and how I see it and feel about this and I hope david feel better and get well soon so he can feel fresh and good for his concerts coming up and I hope his bands get well soon too. goodnight folk

  35. pickles says:

You would have to be there at the concert to really know that David was really sick. Whoever said that he was depressed or had allergies in the other post has no idea how sick David was. I been to many David’s concert and I have never seen him this bad. I would have love to hear Numb and Nunca Pense yesterday. I knew he was sick because when he sang the opening song TOSOD, he sang it in his lower register. This concert was different for me because I love hearing David’s lower register. I ask my friend (it was her first David concert) which song she like the most and she said MKOP. I had to agree with her because he spoke it while playing the piano, made you really pay attention to the lyrics. I though this version was beautiful and I recorded half of it. I will upload it later.Security once again was strict and they were telling people to put their phones and cameras down.

Things that happen in the concert:

David said “babe” and ” shorty” (humming to the tune of that same song) when he was talking celebrity love vs true love. I though that was really funny.

David was really chatty which I love and I cant believe he was that happy knowing how sick he was

He said the first time he sang was in a restaurant in Layton call Garcias. My friend and I ate there just before the concert. David said they have good quesadillas and my friend order a quesadilla. He also said he did not want to get up and sing and his parent encouraged him telling him he would get a quesadilla if he went up there. He said a waitress put a dollar on a jar for him. He though that the waitress felt bad for his singing. Silly David.

He said that everyone there will get 1/2 price off because he is performing again there on Christmas time

He got emotional during the part he mentions about not giving up. His voice cracked and his eyes filled with water. For some reason when his family is there he gets really emotional. This part reminded me when he cry at the Christmas concert during his mission announcement.

I got my picture taking with his mom. I ask her in Spanish if I could take a picture with her and she said yes. I told her thank you so much for sharing her son with us.

In one part of the song Beautiful he did this sound like a archu growl / sick growl that I absolutely love. It sounded so unique.

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

Yeah, I noticed that growl. It put a smile on my face even though it happened because of his hoarse voice. Cool that you got a picture with his mom. Miriam (his aunt) surprised me and came down to do a selfie with me. She’s a sweetheart. Lupe and all her sisters are so pretty!

    • Kalei says:

Thanks for the awesome recap! Sounds like you had a wonderful time!

  36. pickles says:

You are one of the nicest fans that David has and sometimes people forget how much you do for this fan base. Don’t pay attention to negative stuff. David is really lucky to have a fan as dedicated as you.

    • Bridget says:

Agree. Janel, you are the Go-To-Gal for all your write-ups and info that you share. Thank you!

      • Janel aka Nellie says:

Thanks Bridget and Pickles. Awww, I’m loved. LOL.
I’m still praying for David. God bless him. I’m just overwhelmed by how much he tried to give the fans last night.

  37. Martha says:

    Kari Sellards

Just what the doctor ordered! Thanks Lupa!!!

  38. Larzwik says:

I was at the concert last night with 6 of my family members and 1 close friend. I could tell on the first song TOSOD that something was wrong. David did struggle with his voice and obviously that was a difficult hour or so for him, but he did give it his all and tried to still continue on as long as he could. I have to admit I was disappointed after waiting soooo long for a concert and because 5 of the people who were with me had never seen David live before. I wanted it to be a perfect evening, and expected it to be so. When I came home and was discussing the night with my husband he made the comment, “well you learned something tonight……David is human!” Yup, that’s one lesson I learned, and unlike the rest of us when we get sick and can call in sick to work and take a day or two off, David cannot. He has no replacement or sub to call in. These things happen and cannot be planned. David and Kari’s plan for last night did not include health issues I’m sure! I had the privilege of sitting right behind David’s mother. I could tell she was nervous for him and I’m sure as any mother, she was praying for him and wishing there was something she could do to “fix” the situation. She said to me afterward, “thank you for supporting him tonight, please keep supporting him”. I told her to tell David we love him and understand. I know I will have more opportunities to see David. I know he will get well and return to singing soon. I know that the disappointment I felt was selfish because of my expectations. Another lesson learned is that we can choose how we react to situations………we can choose to be negative and depressed or we can choose to look at the bright side and look at the good things that took place. I choose to remember excited granddaughters, a delicious before dinner, matching glow in the dark shirts, second row seats, singing along, speaking briefly with Lupe, going for hot chocolate afterward, but most of all the words and messages David wanted to make sure we all heard last night…..mostly through speaking.

Just what the doctor ordered! Thanks Lupa!!!

  41. kimk says:

Sam Smith, Adele, John Mayer, Meghan Trainor, Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson all have cancelled whole blocks of shows due to vocal issues not to mention some have had to have surgery.. of course David is human.
maybe now folks will stop asking him to do things especially on concert day.
even better he will pass when asked and take care of himself and that gorgeous voice of his and get better when sick.

    • Ali says:

Agreed! Wishing him a speedy recovery. It’s been so long since he did full shows, not to mention multiple days in a row, maybe this was the reminder needed to bring back that caution. His voice is such a gift. It should be taken close care of.

    • Larzwik says:

I’m sure David may have learned a lesson, too. None of us know exactly what he did on concert day or how that affected the concert, but I would think he might be more choosy about what he does or doesn’t do on concert day from now on. He just may have received blessings to do as much as he did because of his service. We just don’t know those answers.

      • GrammyJ says:

Yes, we truly don’t know what contributed to David’s singing issues last night except for the fact that he was sick. It is a very hard thing for a professional singer to cancel a sold out show with so people to pay (band, his team, etc.) and all the fans that bought tickets to the show with some coming from out of town. Most artist do sing anyway like David did unless the have no voice left at all.

Thanks for Larswik, Janel, and Pickles for giving your fan recaps above. I love reading them. Sounds like it was mainly a good experience despite David being sick. It was interesting that Lupe asked fans to keep supporting David. Makes it sound like this really is just the BEGINing.

hope he doesn’t have to cancel Mondays show
or yikes that voice of his conks out like it did before. (lol yeah freakin out here)
singers voices seem to be like fine instruments easy to go wonky if not taken care of properly.

  44. kimk says:

true has been quite a while since he has had concerts.. lets just all hope
me praying here that his voice will be ok.

Kari is a sweetie hope they all feel better soon my poor DIL her son started school this last week well she is sick as a dickens with a 6 week old, 1 1/2 year old and a 5 year old very active boy.
there is a lot of stuff going around.

anybody remember hand sanitizer during VIP?

    • Anne-Marie says:

Sorry to hear about your DIL Kim. Was her son sick as well? When kids start back to school, they bring all kinds of germs home. Which reminds me I have get my annual flu shot soon. The little kids are always hugging you and touching things so hand sanitizer is must to use during the school day!

      • perplexed says:

Be careful with flu shots too. The extra strength ones made some family members very ill. Hospital nurse told us 50 yr old men in neuro ward for paralysis and would have to have rehab. Due to flu shot. Not sure what this year’s flu shot will be like.

        • Anne-Marie says:

Aww thanks but I’m not worried. I’ve gotten a flu shot every year for the last 25 years and have never had a problem. Besides, it’s important for me to get one as I work in an elementary school and am a diabetic as well. 🙂

  45. Anne-Marie says:

    Hey guys!
Just popping in before the dinner hour. Disappointed the Bills lost the game today. But they didn’t lose by much (Bills-32 Patriots-40) so not too shabby! Hoping for a better game next week when they play the Dolphins. 🙂

That chicken soup Lupe made looks yummy! Hope David eats a lot of it! There is something about chicken soup that really does help when you’re sick. 🙂

  46. kimk says:

I have post David Archuleta concert depression rn

  49. kimk says:

thinking about the time Adele had her vocal troubles ended up having surgery tried to buy a ticket close by was $250 each so didn’t glad I did as she ended up canceling her whole tour. think she had surgery after that only sang once live now years later heard there may be an album this November also heard she is refusing to tour no matter what they offer her to do it. supposedly it is to be by her young son but what is to say it is not like John Mayer where I think after his surgery his voice is not the same or like Julie Andrews for instance guess we will see soon enough. could be her voice doesn’t last too long or sound as great live? guessing of course.

what made me think of her were the rumors while on tour could be wrong but from what I remember it was Joy Williams/Civil Wars who toured with her posting interesting stuff.. once about having a hangover from a party in the park as I recall.
anyway big difference between David and most artists
he is so giving doesn’t want to disappoint is obedient if you will with certain things I admire him for that.
think folks should be treating him extra special cause he is special.

I’m unsnapped now. LOL. His concerts have been wonderful, even last night with a struggling voice he sounded amazing.

  52. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Candy…..Yep that’s the spirit…..Let’s all be thankful that David is still here doing music and didn’t quit his music career…….Hope David stayed home and rested and the doctor was able to give him one of the flu meds that they have that shortens the duration of the flu…..If he is not in tip top condition he needs to definitely cancel tomorrow’s concert…..I know some folks would be upset but we would be more upset if David lost his ability to sing again like he did when he was 13 or so…..Miss Vicki

    • Hey Miss Vicki!!! Praying for you David!
You are quite a guy! You seemed more concerned abot the fans attending the concert!
But you have been through this before and you will kick it!
If you have your concert tomorrow, you know how to change over your voice to accomodate the high notes!
David has the kindest & most caring fans!

  53. kimk says:

  54. CindyUT says:

  56. kmb says:

I know David was very sick and I applaud people for choosing not to record. Part of me, though, really wants to hear BOTW and the spoken MKOP. Somehow knowing the circumstances makes the performances seem more precious.

GET WELL SOON DAVID!!!!! (not for us, but for your own well being). The Glorious clip was so heartwarming, to hear the fans pick up when David had to drop out. What a lovely gesture by those fans lucky enough to be there! It’s great to be an Arch Angel! 🙂

  59. Ali says:

I just noticed that the OS posted that interview that David did the other day.

Nice big smiley screen cap too 😀
I’m loving the OS redesign. So enjoyable to visit now.

  60. josie says:

I know I said I wouldn’t be posting very often….but I have to admit, this is pretty cool. 🙂 Everything seems surreal right now. It’s surreal that he was “gone” for 4 yrs., that he seriously considered quitting, and that he’s finally trying to get back in the game. Things feel different than they used to be, but familiar at the same time..if that makes sense.

I hope he doesn’t find it too hard to “come back”, and decide once and for all to stop. But maybe the last few nights have brought back some GOOD memories and rekindled his love of performing…Also, I know he’s probably more comfortable starting off in communities w/large LDS populations, but I’m hoping that’s just…a temporary thing. Pleaaaase. 🙂

And…I might be wrong, but I’ve always felt that he’s had a hard time believing that fans (and others outside his “circle”) can genuinely care about HIM…especially after those in the business tried to mess with his head. (Jerks. Grrr.) I think it’d help boost his sense of self-worth if he realized that sometimes, an audience might be responding to “who he is”, not just “what he does”. (There’s a difference, David. There is.)

    • Jani says:

Love this, Josie. And perhaps this experience has shown David that very thing. The audience loved him even though “what he does” was not on full display. “Who he is” was evident in every word, smile, and courageous effort to sing and give his all, and the love that was shone him was almost palpable. Hopefully that message went to David’s heart.

    • Kalei says:

Nice to see you here again! It’s exciting to see David get back into performing again – I hope he remembers how much fun it is being on stage!

I hope David get better soon. So proud of him that he is very professional, eventhough he had a flu, the show must go on, thumb up to you David. Happy to hear he will have Christmas shows.

  71. cq says:

Looks like David will be doing at least one Christmas concert and probably a few in Utah anyway. Maybe a release of an album around Christmas and a full tour to support it in early 2016?

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

When Gina talked to us she said an Idaho concert for Christmas was planned but not announced, then when this happened they said let’s do one in Layton too. Ticket holders from Saturday night’s concert will be emailed and offered the half off. They just have to find a venue big enough (or hopefully bigger so more people can go). Just those two are confirmed, but not when.
If you look at the thread where Kalei and I are tweeting back and forth she asked me if I can attend. Truthfully it will depend on when he sets the concert for. My choir does a few performances during December, though I’m only obligated to go to one of them if I have other things going on. That’s on Dec 11th. So, I guess we’ll see.

  78. wonderingandpondering says:

David is human and gets sick like all humans. He has no control over those germs. But he is also an angel. He knows fans would be sad to not see him so he went out there and did his best. I can guarantee most singers would say no way, I am staying in bed. Not our David. He would be out there even with no band or back up singers if he had to. I can’t imagine how awful he felt. Look at all those named here who cancelled tours and shows. David would have to be dead to do that. I love and respect him. I remember other tours where he was so sick he couldn’t talk too. He gets sick on the road a lot, but looks like lots of other singers do too. Difference is our angel goes out there, most stay home in bed. Sorry for rant, I do not like any disrespect for David this weekend.

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

Thank you, I agree. I remember Steven told me when they were in the Philippines the Summer of 2011 they all got sick with real bad stomach flues but were able to get just well enough to do all the shows. I just wonder how many times they were sick that we didn’t know about.

  79. palmtreephan says:

It is so wonderful to experience the joy of David’s long awaited return to the stage. I say a silent prayer for those devoted fans who are no longer with us to share in that joy….I believe they are smiling down today. 🙂

  80. Anne-Marie says:

Hi guys! Just popping in on my lunch time. Spent last night re-watching vids from the 1st show…just amazing! Hope David (and the band) is feeling better today. It was good that he had yesterday to completely rest. He was a trouper the other night and so sweet to not want to disappoint the fans but it would be terrible for David to risk his health to perform tonight if he was still sick with the flu. I’m sure he’ll do what he thinks is best for him, the band and the fans. 🙂 That being said, looking forward to hearing about tonight’s show! Will be praying for David that things run smoothly! 🙂

  82. S-McM says:

    Good Morning All!!!

I was with Jani and some other great fan-friends the other night at Layton! What a great time we had sharing with others….from all around the country , Dubai, Japan
    and Canada!

The excitement of the day carried into the evening as well. It was the most wonderful feeling that was being passed around from David to his audience of great fans. Even though he was sick….his brilliant light was being shared through his smile, his banter and his heart. It is so true that David is more than just a beautiful voice.
His fans were more concerned about David the glorious person…than David the glorious voice. All the light and love that he has showered on people was coming full circle back to him. If was a night of reflection….a circle of love! I have not stopped thinking about that night and the magical things that were being shared between David and the audience. .

Even though David is not on a mission…..he is still helping people more than he will ever know….through his unbelievable example. David is on a mission….still. 🙂

I hope that he was able to feel this love in Idaho Falls and in Layton. It was clearly something that I will never ever forget. The concert in Layton was as wonderful as any concert I have ever been to of David’s. David the person took center stage!

David’s music and his heart are one!♥

Janel, and fans who have went layton concert last night, can I ask what did he say about MKOP and Numb? Is it same with Idaho?

Lisa, he didn’t perform NUMB…..or talk about wanting to quit music, (that I remember anyway??)
His banter before MKOP was similar to IF – not exactly the same words, but close, same message. He had us in the palm of his hand with his warmth and his raspy, lower speaking voice.

I am kinda shocked that david had a flu would get better fast , it does take 7 -10 days to get over a flu right Idk? My guess I don’t think david was that ” too” sick?? If he was that really sick he prolly would have cancel the Concert tonight.

  128. kimk says:

    josie rofl!

  129. kimk says:

josie lol done grew up mighty fine!

IMO ha well enjoy yourself off to spazz for the man.. you may be on your own right now.

    • IMO says:

Just posting my opinions that all. I am not right all the time, I am not a perfect person either . Happy to see david getting better, he doesn’t gave any concerts til October , do it a good thing he will be resting more. Goodnight kimk.

  130. Shanny in Australia says:

My 8 year old looked over and said ‘Is that David!?’
    Then said, ‘He looks cute’.
Thought it was interesting comment from a young one, they way they notice things and just say what they think. 🙂

I sure do like how he looks mature in it. Would love for all those people out there who still remember him as a kid, to see that oic.

So many heartfelt, beautiful comments in this thread…..

    Sydnie have fuuuuun!!! 🙂

How much longer til show time?

    Loved David’s tweets today. 🙂

  131. IMO says:

Only Reason for it because it was sold out show :/ I hope all the fans have a great time and goodnight folks

    • Shanny in Australia says:

It was probably more that he was a little under the weather and his voice was just exhausted.
      Take care. 🙂

      • Shanny in Australia says:

He also seems to be quite a quick healer and a bit of a tough cookie. I know my husband never spends more than half a day in bed, where I would spend three. Lol

  132. Shanny in Australia says:

Ha, he’s giving away first row seats now! 🙂 Go Archie’s!!!

  134. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

OMG…..WHAT A PIC …….he looks older than 24!!!! I sure hope David takes is easy on himself tonight……we certainly don’t want him to loose that voice forever….Hey IMO…..there is a medication the doctors can give you to lessen the effects the flu…..glad he saw a doctor the other night…..Hey sydnie…..have a blast tonight and take lots of pics if you can………Miss Vicki

    • IMO says:

Well miss vicki david must some. “magic” med for sure to get better fast like that. No I don’t think david will lose his voice, it would sucks is he did.

  135. IMO says:

I have question for all of u here…. If u were a singer and not feeling well and u had a sold out show and lot of money invloved would u cancel it and lose all that good money no i would not think so. I am just trying to be honest here because if u all bash at me for that. Maybe david could not postponed it the concert tonight because he prolly gonna be really busy with the music and concerts stuffs coming up… Goodnight folks

    • Ali says:

I don’t think anyone is trying to bash you. I think we’re just trying to figure out what your point is. David is obviously doing the show tonight. Does it matter what the reason is? Maybe he feels lots better. Maybe he feels obligated. Maybe he found a sickness healing wizard on the way over to the venue. Maybe a combination of the three. Either way, it’s happening 😉

      • IMO says:

Okay well I am glad he is feeling better anyway I do think david might quit the music busniess next year but I think it will be unexpected from david , it would not shocked me if I was right?!

  136. IMO says:

I realize that the concert is outdoor and if he still not feeling well, he prolly could not postponed the concert around nov and dec because it winter , he prolly could have move the concert date til next spring when it warm eoungh to have a concert but david prolly not doing any music or any more concert shows next year either so I guess he have no choice to have the concert show tonight.

  137. CJ says:

Ah there it is.. I’m knew if we waited long enough it would come. SMH

David Archuleta solves most of life’s problems.

  169. jeaniut says:

Talk about thinking outside of the box. He is unbelievable. I wonder if any of his sisters can sing.

  170. Janel aka Nellie says:

David’s mom Lupe and his Aunt Miriam singing with him. Nunca Pense.

  171. Janel aka Nellie says:

Amber from San Diego and her mom ran into all kinds of obstacles to make it the concert Saturday night. They got there right when David was singing Glorious. They were brave to talk to Kari about what they had went through and wondered if there was a way they could meet him. This is what Amber told me Kari said “She said she might be able to help me on Monday, but most likely she said she could help me when David has a tour in March”. So, I know it’s not direct from Kari…but tour…tour….TOUR!!!

    • Shanny in Australia says:

Maybe he might do some VIP’s next year then if she might be able to arrange a meeting? Fingers crossed for peeps! 🙂

  172. Shanny in Australia says:

I so wanna see vids of jazzy doing the talking and his mum and Miriam singing with him! Which song did they sing with him does anyone know?
Very very happy to see things went well for David tonight!!!!!!!! 🙂

  173. Janel aka Nellie says:

Jahzey on Instagram: This 5 year old sang amazing tonight. So absolutely proud of him.

  174. alwaysafan says:

I’m so glad the concert went well for him!

  175. Jani says:

Amazing night!!!! He is one in a bazillion. And he seemed so happy at the end. He pulled it off, with help from his fam. The crowd loved him again. Ha, I overheard some cute girls in the parking lot, “I’m shaking, I’m so excited.” “I know! Breath, just breath.”
Lol. I feel like hugging everyone, such relief and joy. Goodnight all!
David, you did it! Hope you sleep like a baby tonight.

    • Shanny in Australia says:

Aww, love it Jani! Especially the bit where you said he seemed so happy at the end! 🙂 that’s good news.

And it’s wonderful that he was so well received. The guy is loved that is for sure! 🙂

And you sure did get a good drenching for your first time(s) seeing the man live didn’t you! So happy for you! 😀

  176. So sad I could not go. says:

I remember when American idol tour was in Salt Lake City on July 14 and 15th 2008, and I was a lucky person to have gotten a VIP ticket for after the show.
I remember seeing David they’re surrounded by many many people and spending time with other American Idol contestants was a lot of fun too. but I was mostly content just standing back and watching the people surrounding David and seeing the enjoyment but almost bewilderment that he had and all of this new found popularity.
Then it came time for me to drive home.
HOLY SMOKE It was the hardest thing in my life to do to walk out of that room and keep walking out to the parking lot and drive 50 miles to the south to a little town called Orem to go home. I cried all the way home. Walking out of the room where the sun is been shining for the evening was like somebody ripping both of my arms off I didn’t do not want to leave. (Bet y’all have felt that)
The spellbinding effect David had it on all of us then and it’s just gotten worse.
No matter how much time and space we have between the time that we see him those of us that absolutely love that guy find it hard to walk away after the night is over.and we have to rely on our memories of the most GLORIOUS thing we’ve seen and heard.

oh Crikey enough mush from me. LOL

  177. pickles says:

They were more strict tonight than Saturday so I could not pull my good camera that zooms in and records in HD. (My good camera recorded this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q99-fjfaIPc). Tonight I could not get 1 video in that camera but I did get some of Nunca Pense in the camera that does not zoom and is bad quality. They even warned us that if we were caught recording we would be kick out of the concert.

He did not sing Forevermore or Numb.
MKOP was perfect again with him speaking most of the parts
    Jazzy spoke for him
Lupe and his aunt sang with him Nunca Pense.
He was healthier and even dance a little on Nunca Pense

  178. kimk says:
