A Glorious Night
Why have one lead pic when you can have three?

We are now taking t-shirt orders…. 🙂

It started out as a pretty normal day – fans were tweeting about the extra tight security at the 2nd night of Idaho Falls, and there was some speculation about whether vids would be allowed at Layton – after all it is an open air venue with about 3/4 of the audience seated on the grass – a bit tough to monitor every single camera and cell phone right?
The Archies were packed up and on the road, tweeting their progress on their way to Layton – the air was filled with excitement and anticipation! Davis Arts Council hid the last pair of concert tix!
The lines were long with people waiting patiently with their lawn chairs, and an atmosphere of fun and celebration filled the air! Archies are used to waiting in long lines!
It was exciting to see the concert poster welcoming fans inside the venue, and David’s new merch looked great hanging up so fans could get a good look at all the options!
Look what Shawna and her family bought! #MatchingConcertShirts
Fans started filing into the venue to settle in and look for their seats. Looks like David’s family was there to support him!
Then Gracie took the stage to start the show!
It seemed that everything was going well – the audience was having fun and the weather was gorgeous, like it was ordered special for an outdoor concert! Things were perfect! You know what they say about Murphy’s Law….
We should have seen the signs that things were not quite right….
*Queue ominous music……
Intermission was over, and it was finally time for David to take the stage! Excitement filled the air and some fans fired up their Periscopes! Twitter was filled with cyber-chanting DA-VID, DA-VID, DA-VID, DA-VID!!!
But again, something was not quite right….
Mietra posted a snippet of David’s opening song TOSOD:
Soon it became evident that David was not feeling well and that his voice was not 100% – but he was a trooper and went back out on stage to try and finish the show – he even mentions food!
The gravity of the situation became obvious when he could no longer sing and, instead, spoke the lyrics to MKOP – it was clear that David would not be able to finish the concert. 🙁
Twitter was on fire with everyone tweeting their concern and looking for answers – I was actually a bundle of nerves wondering if David was ok? Had he pushed himself too hard in the first 2 concerts to meet fans’ high expectations?
Shelley had mentioned that he was on vocal rest when they found him at the Tractor park – should he have only scheduled one Layton concert on Monday to give his voice time to recuperate? There were lots of questions, but very few answers.
Then the magic happened…. people didn’t boo him, they didn’t get up and leave or start demanding their money back. Instead, in a show of love and support for this amazing artist, the audience stood up, held their cell phones in the air, lighting the darkened amphitheater so that it looked like a sea of twinkling stars – and they began singing along with David – lending their voices when he had none left to give.
Like a bridge over troubled water… I will lay me down….
After the concert ended, David was seen by a Doctor, and because there is a silver lining in every dark cloud, an announcement was made that David would be performing Christmas shows and everyone in the audience would be able to purchase a half-price ticket!
Repeat after me:
Thank goodness Mietra has a sense of humor and knew exactly what the Archies needed in that moment:
For a guy with the flu and pretty much no voice left, he looks great! 🙂

A Thank You From David
After all the worrying and hand wringing and freaking out over David’s health, the Man himself sent the tweet everyone was waiting for:
And he still managed to keep a sense of humor about it all! He is definitely one in a million, and I am so proud to be a fan. If anyone is still wondering why we waited all these years for David to return to music – well this is it!
Tonight David gave us a gift – but not the usual gift that comes wrapped up in the perfection of his beautiful voice soaring to the heavens, this was something a little bit different. Many fans have proclaimed how David and his music have changed their lives for the better – brightened up a dark day, lifted their spirits, set them back on a positive path and basically made this world a better place.
Tonight, we were able to return the favor – we got to be the ones coming to save the day – by the simple lifting of our voices in unison with his.
Thank you David, you taught us well.

One Layton Vid So Far
I’m not anticipating many vids from the 1st Layton show as most people weren’t recording in deference to David not feeling well and his voice being rather hoarse. However, this partial vid of Somewhere Only We Know is pretty excellent!
There are also a few more vids from Idaho Falls!

It’s been a long night filled with ups and downs like a wild roller coaster ride! But it was so heartwarming to see Archies helping each other with tickets or rides to get where they needed to go or just plain hanging out together and having fun!
David gets a full day of rest which he definitely needs! We’ll see what the status of the Monday concert is and tweet it out to everyone. Keep sharing your stories, pics and vids – we love hearing about your concert adventures! Especially those of us who can only be there in spirit!
Joanie will be back next week with the Tuesday post and all the Monday concert pics, vids & fan stories! Enjoy!
