A new concert! A David Archuleta Spectacular
Not on the OS yet, but I have a feeling it will be soon as the information has been out for at least 24 hours
Read more about it here:
This year’s BYU Spectacular will be featuring a very familiar face with David Archuleta headlining the event.
Archuleta will be the featured guest at BYU Spectacular on Oct. 8 and 9 in the Marriott Center. The annual event is part of the Homecoming Week activities. Tickets for BYU Spectacular go on sale on July 13 for those buying a BYU artsPASS, or on July 21 for those buying tickets only for BYU Spectacular.
The event will also feature performances from several BYU performing groups, including Vocal Point, Cougarettes, Young Ambassadors and others.
Archuleta, who rose to fame as a contestant on “American Idol” and was runner-up on the show, has released six albums and won several awards. He has also performed with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and provided the title track “Glorious” for the movie “Meet the Mormons.”
This is not on the OS but we understand that this information has been out for a few days, and that BYU students, faculty and alumni were given advance notice. We are hoping that there is plenty of room for all who want to attend!
If you have a promo code you can get your tickets NOW. Otherwise, you have 2 other options:
July 13 for those buying a BYU artsPASS
July 21 for the general public buying tickets only for BYU Spectacular.
For those with the Promo Code, what are you waiting for???? Click on the link to go
And here is another site that has information on tickets:
And I found this most interesting:
Interesting. So, of course, like any obedient reader, I clicked on it.
And, so it was true! This is what I got and this is and will always be one of my favourite Jake Chessum pictures!

Make Saturday Memorable
Two great ideas from Fans to make the day of Jen Barry’s memorial memorable in a way that is personal to each of us. From Facebook:
Love this idea! I have to tell you that besides gerber daisies, these are my favourites as well. You had awesome taste my sweet friend <3. Can you image this time next year when we all share our picture of our blooming lilies? And every year after that? How wonderful would that be!
From Louise Burge Perry
I was thinking it would be nice if we all changed either our profile picture or cover picture to one of Jens photos on Sat for her memorial.
Loved this idea too and so did so many others!
Will you join us?
We’ll send out a reminder on Friday night as well.
And I collected all of Jen’s slideshows (over a dozen!!!) and gathered pictures below. You can download directly from our site below. How can you pick just one?
And take a look at the collection Joanie put together as well on Tuesday featuring her picture of family, her landscapes, sports pictures and many others. We truly lost a wonderful talent.
Watch this in slideshow and see what I mean. Please give Jen credit if you are posting elsewhere 🙂

Collecting My Thoughts
I heard about Jen’s passing on my way to out of town business meetings, about one hour into a 5 hour trip. Not 5 minutes has gone by since that moment that I have not thought of her and her family.
As Kari said on her tweet, Jen was a true Archie. She supported David unconditionally, and with enthusiasm. She used her rediscovered talents to share pictures of David with not only his fans, but with his family as well. And I know they loved those pictures. Jen was a staunch supporter of David’s privacy during his mission and was not shy about displaying her opinion. She used her renewed discovery of those artistic talents as a springboard to photograph other things. She was proud of her work, and I admired how she invited us to vote on some of her contests. Just as she was generous in sharing her talents with us, we returned the generosity by helping her get recognition in the art that she loved.
I got to know Jen after she sent me a slew of pictures that she printed, not really knowing me from Adam, but she just felt I might like them. It was very early on in the American Idol tour. Never asking for anything in return although postage to Canada is often insane. She used to hand out advertisement cards before David’s concerts. I sometimes would email her to see if I could use one of her protected shots from Smugmug on FOD for a post I was doing. Always a ‘yes’. Generous, and confident in her craft.
But I also got to know Jen as she would email me privately, and ask for an opinion on something. Sometimes, she wanted to add a quote to a picture and was concerned about how it might be misinterpreted or whether it matched the picture. Or she wasn’t sure about a font or placement of the quote. Or if it should be B&W vs colour. Sometimes she would ask an opinion on the calendars she put together for charity too, always valuing external perspective. She was very open minded and was never overly confident that she wouldn’t consider that advice. She was always wanting to perfect her craft, while being respectful to everyone, including David.
It’s been very hard to express how much the loss of this lovely young woman has rocked me, and many of you; not only because it was Jen the Archie we loved, but it was Jen the mom and wife. No child should lose their parent. No person should lose their spouse. No parent should lose their child. I posted the quote at the top of the page because what many of us have been feeling has to do with how we regard each other ~ as part of this big, weird, wonderful, fan family (That term is Kricket’s and I use it liberally). Like it or not, we share a common bond, and there is just something about that bond that is hard to shake. That’s why we are happy together, sad together, why we celebrate together, and why we sometimes cry together.
Tragedy has a way of reminding us how fragile life is. Some wonderful friends have reached out this week to reconnect during this difficult time understanding that we all need a virtual hand to hold. We can also move forward by taking the safe driving message to heart personally, and to remind our children of that as well. Life is too incredibly precious.
We will all miss you Jen <333.

An Unforgettable ‘Photograph’
This video is simply wonderful. What a beautiful tribute from Jen’s friend Bronwyn. Please go leave a comment on your Youtube vid.
Still in shock over the senseless loss of my good photographer friend, I wanted to do something to remember her by, so what better way than a tribute of some of her photos, to honour her. I’m not too familiar with these slideshow things, it’s taken me all day (& fb removed it as soon as I uploaded – hence it’s now on youtube, hoping it can stay) – but I hope that it gives her loved ones something to remember her with.

For the summer, FOD will be reducing our posting even further, taking our lead from David. We will be posting twice per week, and occasionally only weekly.
And in order to tackle some much needed maintenance, I’ll be taking a break from writing for FOD. My new job has been extremely demanding so much so that development of a quality post even once a week post has been difficult. I just haven’t been able to put all my energy into writing a good piece for you weekly, especially when material is a bit scarce ;). With many other balls in the air, I’m not at my creative best right now ~
And I’ve also dropped the ball on the maintenance side and I’m sure many of you have observed we’ve had a little less stability over the past weeks. With Joanie and Kalei here putting out comprehensive, informative and fun posts, the site can afford not having me as a writer, but it can’t afford going down! We need some much needed upgrades, testing and working with our host on ‘right-sizing’ and that’s the best use of my time.
I’ll still be tweeting, responding to tweets and emails as appropriate. I’ll be back writing on Mondays in September, hopefully in time for David’s ‘tour’ to be in full swing. Can’t wait! In the interim, we invite guest columns. Just write us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d like to contribute. I assure you, everyone who has provided guest posts were initially hesitant and then found it enjoyable! What’s on your mind? Write us!
So see you on ‘behind the scenes’!
