David Shares André’s Inspiration

David shared a quote yesterday morning from the famous  French author and past Nobel  Literature Prize Winner André Gide

tweet quote David re andre

~and to which he added~

tweet well said andre

I really like this quote and like the way it ties together with a theme he shared on Instagram on New Year’s Eve about what life has to offer and looking ahead to the future:

IG David Happy New Year 2015

Now with a new year ahead, new goals come with it. Life has so much to offer, and the simple and small things we commit to make huge impacts on who we become. It’s amazing how much we influence the outcome of who we are. I am excited for the future! “

Whether or not it was a quote that he came across and decided to share, or whether it was one that holds a personal significance for him, I like it’s message, as did many fans who offered back similar quote/messages. 🙂

tweet pastel re Andres's quotetweet DJfan re Andre's quotetweet maryanne re Andre quotetweet re andre's quotetweet re andre's quote 2

And a personal fave response of mine. 😉tweet Eileen code breaker re David's tweet

Anyway, following David’s tweet, it was nice to read through the many thoughtful and respectful responses yesterday in comments, and we’re happy that we can continue to provide a place for these discussions where (we) fans can gather, ask questions, support one another, and share.  🙂

An “Áccent” Instructional!

Raise your hand if you have ever wondered how David get’s that nifty little “accent” appropriately above foreign language words i.e. André’s name yesterday in his tweets. I shamefully just copy and paste words with an accent when needed as I have had no clue how they can otherwise be made to appear. 😉

Last evening, I received a quick instructional from Tina who I deeply lurrrve and who is a wealth of information! Soooo if you’re interested, read our exchange below. 🙂

And to add accents and symbols used (especially) in foreign languages, you can go to http://www.irvingisd.net/districtweekly/flyers/typing_in_spanish.htm and bookmark the page for future reference! Martha caught on very quickly! 🙂

Anywhooooooo, that’s today’s little lesson for ya on a slow news morning ! I always appreciate social media tutelage and thought I’d pass it on. 🙂

Road Trip Revelation: CD tracks “Most Played” on my iTunes

david-archuleta red cdDavid-Archuleta-Christmas-From-The-Heart1TOSOD on Sony FBGlad Christmas Tidings CD

forevermore cropped credit odysseylive.netDavid-Archuleta-BeginDA_NMHF-cover

This past weekend I was on a L O N G road trip with my family as we traveled out to Pennsylvania to see one of our daughters at college and watch her play hockey. I spent a good amount of time on my iTunes and iPod listening to David Archuleta’s music. His music never disappoints and always brings me back to great memories of posts, pics, interviews, anticipation, videos, tweets, snippets, releases, promos, trips, concerts, friends and so much more!

When is the last time you checked to see which songs from David’s specific cds are played the most on your iTunes? We have a family iTunes account so my “plays” are always combined with the entire family’s plays and I loved learning this past weekend which songs from each cd came out on top. For today’s music selections, I’ll share each (current) #1 from each cd.  in a little playlist for you. Enjoy! (On David’s red cd there was a tie for 1st place so there are 2 songs.)

RED CD: Crush and Barriers

CFTH: Ave Maria

TOSOD: Parachutes and Airplanes (tied) with Good Place

GCT: Silent Night (Cat and Mouse carol was a close 2nd)

Forevermore: Forevermore (a clear #1)

BEGIN. : Broken

No Matter How Far: Nothing Else Better To Do with HFO closely behind

How does this compare to your “most played” songs for each cd? I’d be interested in hearing what yours are. Are our lists similar? completely different? If you’d like, check out your own iTunes and let me know in comments. 🙂

A Closing Couple “Shared” Thoughts

Called To Serve studying screencap

I mentioned earlier in the post how much I (we MODs) appreciate your shared thoughtful questions and comments. We’re all in this together and we’re here on this fansite not only to continue to support and celebrate the artistry and person of David Archuleta, but also to celebrate and support each other. It’s what a “fan family” does, right?

As we forge into 2015 and await to hear the new music David has been working on, we may feel, or hear about a myriad of emotions expressed as caring and loyal fans. I’m choosing to share a few comments in ending this post today that I found “I” connected with especially in the way I feel. I’ll not include their names on the front page, but I do want to say “thank you” to them (and to all of you) for sharing.

I love Taylor’s song “Shake It Off” .. If anyone has learned how to handle hate Taylor has, she’s experienced it, and wrote a song about it. For probably the first time David has taken control of his life, and enjoys what he’s doing. He loved us, he tweeted us, blogged consistently, toured, made us beautiful music, albums. He loves God, and lives for God more than ever, after his eyes were opened during his mission. God’s work is first and he’s focusing on his personal endeavors, family, friendships, life, and all those things he put to the side since 2008. Things will fall into place. I’ll definitely be here and ready for the music!

I appreciate all the different perspectives and opinions on remaining a fan.

Mine is this: there are lots of things I wish for for David. There are things that I would prefer he do. But here is a simple truth for me: as long as he sings, I will be a fan. Not saying that to make a point to those who do move on because I get where they’re coming from, I’m just saying it as something I know about myself. A simple truth. I’ve thought long and hard about it. And, yeah, as long as he’s singing, I’m listening.

I’ve been a fan of some artists for over 15 years and I anticipate that continuing as long as they do. The same is true for me with David. He just needs to hold up his end of the bargain and keep on singing ;)

Long story short, most of us who comment here will remain fans, visible or invisible, vocal or non-vocal, for the duration. We will continue to anticipate, celebrate, wonder about his singing journey. Why? Because a singer, artist, PERSON like David comes along only once in a lifetime.

Thanks Joanie for today’s post, as always. 🙂 Everyone stay warm in these frigid temps that some of us will experience tonight and throughout this winter.

  3. Mary Dee says:

Hello FOD! My David playlist is also the busiest on long road trips 🙂 Hubs like Forevermore the best because he knows all of the songs in that album. My daughter’s fave David albums are TOSOD and NMHF. She likes Notice me, EAM, ZG, HFO, NEBTD, TOSOD and PAA. She thinks Broken, Barriers, and Wait are very sad songs and one time she said “mom, David’s voice is awesome but I can only listen to his songs once. No repeats please. They give me so much polarizing feels. I need a happy medium.” LOL. Made me wonder if other 15 year olds feel the same way about David’s songs.

Speaking of David’s songs, Radio Everyone is airing a one-hour David special tomorrow. I wonder if this is similar to what they did last year.

    Barb ‏@EL_FOD 2m2 minutes ago
“Imagine no religion…” I can see why John Lennon wrote this since it seems religion is sometimes used as a rationalization to kill. 🙁

thinking exactly why he wrote it.

    • cq says:

Interesting was listening to Imagine the other day, Lennon’s not David’s (Ok love John Lennon, but yes, love David’s version better, lol) and thought, would the new David (I’m thinking more devoutly religious, only guessing though) be able to sing this full song again, especially the that verse. I hope that he would still be able.
Another thing to I wonder about the new David, what kind of music is he listening to. He had such an eclectic taste in music, wonder if he still does or just listens to more serious/religious songs with an occasional happy song thrown in, lol.

      • kimk says:

got me have no idea what is going on. just hope he hasn’t lost his love of music
hope him not being allowed regular music for so long has changed all that.

      • cc halo says:

That’s one of the main things I miss–“Jukebox David.” I thought it would be so much fun to hear about him catching up with 2 years of music. I wonder if he’s really not into it anymore, or if he’s just not sharing it with us. 🙁

Somewhere I saw some Mormon advice for helping returned missionaries adjust to normal life and one of the things was not to jump back into worldly things like current music or movies. I thought that it meant not to do it for a few weeks, but for some like David, it could possibly be much longer.

        • josie says:

Reading your 2nd paragraph…That’s interesting. Did they mean “take your time & SLOWLY become active in worldly things”, or “never get involved in them again?” lol. Was there an actual deadline?

        • kimk says:

going to hope you are wrong.. kind of judgmental if so least way I see it anyway.
there are many great good decent current artists out there today that are not lds. Great Big World for example.
as a matter of fact Lexi Walker and the Piano Guys make a good living covering their songs.

        • cc halo says:

My impression was that the advice was to stay in the spiritual zone for a while–it wasn’t specific about timing. It could have meant from a few days to a few weeks or months. I really doubt that it meant forever. But knowing that David is very devout and that he’s definitely very different now, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s become somewhat monkish.

    • Candy says:

I just watched the Imagine video probably for the millionth time and was just as in awe now as I was 7 years ago when he first sang that song. It is my all time favorite sung by my all time favorite singer! Sighhh where or where have those 7 years gone! I miss the heck out of watching David perform.
and I agree with Barb’s analogy that religion can sometimes be used as tool (and excuse) to kill, sad isnt it 🙁

  21. kimk says:

omgosh what a baby face there.. and ha he still licked his lips!! I MISS THIS STUFF!!

  22. kimk says:

ha well here is David in his Calvins!! 🙂

David Archuleta – Long & Winding Road – American Idol

David is so stinkin cute I can’t stand it.. wow
    Simon said he was amazing!

  26. Ali says:

Nice writeup about David is this “Where Are They Now” article about some past Idol people. They only profiled 8 previous contestants, including the big 2 of Carrie and Kelly so it’s pretty cool they chose David as well 🙂

    David Archuleta (Season 7 Runner-Up)
Born into a musical family, David Archuleta was a veteran performer by the time he got to American Idol. He had already won the junior vocal competition of Star Search in 2003. Nicknamed “Archie,” the 17-year-old quickly became one of the most popular contestants of his season. He impressed both the judges and audience with such ballads as John Lennon’s “Imagine.”

Archuleta made it all the way to the finals, but he lost out to David Cook. This defeat, however, did not prevent him from enjoying a post-Idol career. “Crush” was his first hit single and his debut album made a remarkable showing that fall. After touring with the likes of Demi Lovato, Archuleta put out a holiday collection Christmas from the Heart in 2009. The following year, he released The Other Side of Down. Archuleta, a devout Mormon, got an opportunity of a lifetime that same year by working with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The young performer also published his autobiography Chords of Strength: A Memoir of Soul, Song and the Power of Perseverance (2010).

In recent years, Archuleta has been more focused on his faith than making the music charts. He announced in December 2011 that he would be going on a two-year Mormon service mission. On his website, Archuleta explained that “I needed to do something that has nothing to do with me.”

While away in Chile, Archuleta still managed to release new music to the public. He put out Begin, a collection of cover songs, in 2012. The following year, Archuleta released No Matter How Far, which drew much of its material from an earlier album previously only available in the Philippines. He returned from his mission abroad and continues to seek out ways to help others. Archuleta recently teamed up with former American Idol contestant Brooke White to contribute a track for a new charity album Lullabies and Happy Songs.

  27. josie says:

Kimk~ Well, tbh, I kind of avoid most secular music, too. lol. I guess my train of thought was…if that’s the advice that he’s been given, it might actually explain A LOT.

  28. kimk says:

lol if I did limit mysef wouldn’t be here would of shut David down right at his mission announcement.. might not agree with what he believes but know this when he sings the songs of his faith he does it with all his being. that is very rare.. he lives the music. why when he sang love songs we felt them.
    or Imagine for that matter.

    • josie says:

Well, I did say MOST. lol. It depends on the message that’s being sent, and if I’m comfortable endorsing that message.

      • kimk says:

ok well I love David singing in Spanish no clue what he is singing could be about tacos for all I know just that I know he’d kill it especially if it was about food!

        • josie says:

“Tacos”, lol. I don’t think he’d be singing about anything too wild in any language, so yeah…no issues there. ha.

  29. cc halo says:

Re: limiting listening to current music. David has said that he’s continuing to write “pop” music, which is short for “popular” music, so IMO, professionally, it would be wise to know what’s out there–what’s popular. I left my career in architecture to raise kids for 17 years and completely lost touch with what was happening in my field, so I’d be in trouble if I wanted to go back, without really researching. Even in a creative field, where you rely on your own artistry, you need to know what’s current.

  30. kimk says:

David did quote a Lorde song.. Royals I think so there. Happy too plus Say Something.

    • cc halo says:

I’d bet that he IS keeping up with current music, he just isn’t sharing it with fans due to his new communication style.

  31. Ali says:

If he lives in the same house as his teenage sisters, you can bet he’s hearing pop music lol. Plus I’d say he still listens to it. He did go to a Sara Bareilles concert after he came back from the mission — and anyone whose been to a show of hers knows she has a voice like an angel and a mouth like a sailor. ha.

  32. Lucy says:

Why can’t it just simply be that David is working on things and will communicate more when he has something to tell. There isn’t always a deep seeded religious reason behind everything he does, he said last fall that it felt good to have control of his own life and he also said a number of times that he is doing things in his own time frame. I have a hard time believing that David is going to let someone tell him what to do or be anymore, his mission may have strengthen his faith but it also strengthened him as a person.

    • Candy says:

Lucy- not sure why you are upset or what (or who) you are responding to, I dont see anything religion based on the thread.

      • Lucy says:

It was just something. cchalo said earlier about other missionaries probably giving David advice to not go back to regular things, I guess I’m just in a weird place today..

    • josie says:

It could simply be that…I guess he’s left it open to interpretation. ha.

  33. Lucy says:

Sorry for my mini rant, I just found out that one of my neighbors sons hung himself a few days ago, he was 33 years old and I guess he had been severely depressed, I suppose that why faith and strength are on my mind today.

    • josie says:

Oh, Lucy. I’m so sorry. 🙁 Yeah. When things like that happen, it can make a person think about what really matters, and what doesn’t..for sure.

    • cq says:

Lucy, I’m so sorry about your neighbors son, tragic. Depression is very serious decease and it can affect even religious people. Religious gay people have a hard time coping and depression is very high for some of them.

    • blisskasden says:

Lucy, sorry to hear about your neighbor’s son. As for your posts, I have read them and they are spot on. Don’t allow those deluded few who think they are above accountability intimidate you into not expressing your views. You have nothing to apologize for. State your observations with full conviction. There are people here and elsewhere who blame the LDS Church for everything they don’t like about David’s state of mind and career direction. Calling them out is a public service to David, and I, for one, applaud you for doing so.

    • Candy says:

So sorry Lucy, my heart aches for the family. I have such a zest for life and want to live forever so its hard to understand what an individual must be dealing with to take their own life. I know you have had a rough time the past year or so, so its understandable. *HUGS*

  41. kimk says:

so sad that someone so young feels that life was so hopeless they feel the need to end it all.

  42. Jani says:

A couple thoughts……It would be nice, I think, if instead of saying “I saw somewhere, or read somewhere” this Mormon advise or council, that folks maybe list exactly where it was seen, so as not to make it seems as official church instruction or doctrine. It may be coming from a well beaning blogger, or an online magazine article written by an RM giving his advice, or what worked for him. You can read all kinds of things in all kinds of places. It doesn’t necessarily mean its really what “the church” says. When a topic like Davids music is brought up that way it give the impression that the church somehow controls what RMs listen to, and that’s just not true,….or at least would be big news to me, who’s had three kids come home from missions. I’m pretty sure David sees and listens to whatever he wants. Just saying it would be nice to site sources if we’re tossing out info about Mormons.

It seems at times like folks feel everything they like about David and his character couldn’t possibly have been church influenced, and yet everything they don’t like is the churches’ fault. Not upset here, I can see how it happens….just a little weary of it all.

    • Jani says:

Oops hadn’t read bliss’ comment. Sorry I was being redundant.

      • kimk says:

David came back different after his lds mission.. directly related.

        • Jani says:

I guess I’m just making the point that if David is different those are his choices, not because he is being told what to do.

He grew up, and is doing things differently, and I kind of hate it, and kind of admire him for it.

        • Jani says:

Hmm..hate’s a strong word…more like it stinks in some ways, 😉

        • Candy says:

I think he even commented on his being the same David but different, or something like that. Cant remember exact words.

        • Jani says:

Yes, he’s being different with his fans. I don’t know how different his person and character is, because we haven’t seen that enough yet, I don’t think. I was really only making the point that David is still in charge of his life, making his own choices….not being told what music to listen to. Until he tells us, I guess we don’t really know what’s in his head, or in what ways he feels different.

      • blisskasden says:

Jani, you weren’t being redundant. You were expressing your observation about you have read, which is what everyone does.

David has matured greatly in the past 3 years. It’s what used to be called “growing up”. It’s a good thing. David was a very charming, engaging, and accommodating boy. It’s over. He’s an adult now. Those who are lamenting his entry into adulthood have maturation issues of their own, to say the least. Whoever David is now has all to do with him. He chooses his influences, and lives accordingly.

The advice for returning missionaries was from a church periodical, I think. To repeat exactly, what I said was that one of the tips was “…not to jump back into worldly things like current music or movies. I thought that it meant not to do it for a few weeks…”

It actually seems like reasonable advice to ease back into regular life, and I thought that it was an interesting observation to bring here as an insight into the mindset he might have experienced upon returning home. I realize that folks’ emotions are pretty raw here lately about David, not to mention with personal tragedies, so I apologize if people took this little tidbit of info too much to heart. But I would ask for people to actually read people’s words and not get unnecessarily upset.

      • Jani says:

Like I said above…not upset at all. And thanks for clarifying a bit where you read that.

        • cc halo says:

To try to be more specific, I was reading an article in a church periodical about the David/Piano Guys video and clicked on one of those little side links about returning from a missio, because it caught my eye. I’ve tried, but can’t find it now.

Interesting post by Jazzy. I’m sure that David is enjoying the opportunity to spend this year with her before she leaves.

  44. kimk says:

if David was sucked up by Martians the last two years plopped on down back to earth a different guy I’d be talking about this too.
whatever it is plan to talk about it not avoid it.
now as for why ok say it isn’t related to his experience or his faith it is just David.
he’s quite aloof doesn’t seem to be into music or singing anymore.
like he said he is different know.

    • Jani says:

You don’t think he’s into music? He HAS done quite a bit of singing, since coming home…not what most fans want, but I think we’ll see he’s still into music…writing, recording.

  45. Spirit says:

The thing that I miss most about the former David is his joyful spirit. It always lifted me up and put a smile on my face. He seems much more serious and solemn now.

  46. josie says:

Waaaah. I want to comment, but I can’t. lol. It’s getting late here, and now I’m incoherent. Anything I say will NOT come out right. Maybe tomorrow, Jani. Take care. 🙂

Another subject…I needed help with my iTunes account so I talked to technical support. While going thru my song list, the girl (who sounded 12 by the way) noticed all of my DA songs. She also noticed my older songs & said “you have eclectic taste in music!” Then she asked me my age haha! Guess she thinks I’m an iTunes cougar. Ha

Thank you Joanie for appreciating and connecting with my post. I’ve been kinda invisible and not as vocal but I’m still here, I check in for news, updates and mostly to hear how others are doing, feeling and understanding we all come together whether we agree or disagree. We’re all in different growth stages but yet we reunite to celebrate that certain guy who brought us here in the first place. He is definitely one unique individual, and his voice is like no other.

It’s so nice to see you, Cindy. 🙂 Tho I don’t get to “see” you as much, I miss you & always appreciate your comments. ♥

Is it to early to start speculating on which month his new album will be released, what’s the name of the album, what kind of sound it will be, hahahaha!!! or if that’s still a plan in place. Would love for David’s team to start getting us excited. You see if we had that kind of excitement to talk about, that would be awesome. Man can’t wait for that to happen, crossing fingers it happens soon.

  50. Lucy says:

Thanks everyone, I was just watching some of Davids performances from the Interfaith concert on my new laptop and when he first came out on the stage that first show, it was awesome to hear the audiences huge response. I watched his face and he was beaming with a big smile on his face, he seemed so happy to get that enthusiastic response too. I may not have been there in person but watching him as he sang on these videos, there is no way he doesn’t want to do music anymore. To me David hasn’t changed much at all and he certainly hasn’t lost any of his spirit, he has just grown up a bit and is trying to figure out this new path in his life. Well enough deep thoughts, good nite guys:)

in order to avoid comment regret I hardly ever comment.it’s because the written word has so much risk of being misinterpreted, taken out of context, sliced and diced into meaning something that it doesn’t. Had a whole comment written up last night and deleted it. Tonight, well actually it’s this morning now, I’ll try again.

I think it’s pretty obvious david has changed a lot. I think he wanted to. Sometimes I think we forget the person we followed was a 16, 17 year old, and how on earth would we expect him to not grow and change? How many of us were the same person at 24 that we were 17 or 20? When you insert a 2 year plus time of very focused service and commitment to his Heavenly Father, the change has to be profound. As far as his love for music my favorite thing I’ve seen since he came back from his mission is that little Instagram video from I think it was Spain where he’s leading 700 people in singing a Spanish Christmas song. If you think he doesn’t love music or performing, look at that 15 second video. There’s so much joy in that room and it comes from him to those listeners. I felt so happy seeing that joy. It was like the videos we saw of him on his mission singing with a fellow Elder. (already having comment regret.)

The IG video, his performances of Stand by Me since he came back from his mission, the unique turns he put on Do You Hear What I Hear at the Celebration of Christ all make me believe he still loves to perform. Whatever part of music or type of music it is that brings him joy and that he wants to share, I’ll be watching and listening. He will always have the most beautiful voice I ever heard 🙂

Yes, some things have changed. He’s not done changing yet. We’re not done changing yet, I hope! Just trying to go with it, whatever it is.
