Nineteen members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, based in Prescott, Ariz., were killed Sunday when a windblown wildfire overcame them north of Phoenix, AZ. It was the deadliest single day for U.S. firefighters since Sept. 11. Fourteen of the victims were in their 20s.
Our prayers go out to the families of these brave members, and to the families affected by the devastating forest fires in AZ.

A blast from the past: Mission Impossible: When You Say You Love Me
Yesterday was the 5 year anniversary of the American Idol S7 Live tour opener in Arizona. Can you believe it? I had no idea that, through the power of social media and generous fans, we wold be able to re-live the performances through fan stories and those amazing, often low quality but widely anticipated YouTube vids. Becky and Jenny posted these for us each evening and we rushed to find the latest daily. It was like running to meet the mailman each day seeking a “you got accepted to college” letter! And David didn’t disappoint!
Today I’m posting one of my favourite When You Say You Love Me performances. David broke from his intent focus momentarily and acknowledged the screaming crowd with a smile not once, but twice. The sound and audio quality is, well, not like it is today, but this vid is just glorious!
I played this vid over and over back then, realizing that this was a rare moment, a momentary understanding between artist and audience that he had indeed CONNECTED! This song was not my fave from the setlist at the start but grew on me exponentially as the months went by. Here it is…my vid for today is Rascal’s When You Say You Love Me from Staples Theatre in LA, July 2008.
I have to leave you with an FOD favourite. Becky wrote an insightful post entitled “Mission Impossible” When You Say You Love Me. Embedded are a number of her favourite WYSYLM vids from the summer tour. Sadly, most of the vids she links to have been pulled from Youtube or the videographer is now on Private. It’s not just sad, it’s criminal! But Becky’s story is powerful just the same.
Read this great post here! (BTW, the resounding winner of ‘your favourite WYSYLM’ poll was SLC, Night 1. It garnered over 400 of the 771 total votes)
And I just MP4’d the LA performance up above and next week will share our Mediafire account with all!
