Nature Boy
I started watching the Idol Season 12 auditions, but I’ve only caught the first two installments thus far. I really wish I had seen last night’s auditions in Baton Rouge, LA because there was an interesting contestant who kinda reminded people of David – not necessarily his voice or his looks, but his self proclaimed “social awkwardness”, shy demeanor, slightly spacey yet completely endearing personality and his very obvious passion for music as his communication tool of choice – music allowed him to say what words could not. Plus he’s 17 years old and sporting a plaid shirt!
There’s a small David mention in the article below, but what struck me is that this contestant chose to sing “Nature Boy” – a song I first heard because David was singing it – David’s version is from when he was very young, but the haunting quality of the performance demonstrated that even at a very young age, David had IT – that magical quality that drew people to his music like moths to a flame. Watching this Season 12 contestant’s audition took me back to that WOTWTC moment when we first saw David sing… I don’t know how far this new contestant will go, but he is certainly a breath of fresh air – Best of luck Charlie Askew!

Super Duper Saturday Post Kalei, thank you! I’ve been an AI fan since Day one, have enjoyed most of the seasons, some more then others. I find it hard in my heart to bash the show…without it David wouldn’t have a career and this fanbase wouldn’t exist. So when watching the annoying stuff I just take a second and thank my lucky stars it was around to bring David into our lives!! How different things would be without him or the show! None of us would know each other nor would we have such amazing memories of such a wonderful young man! And the friends we’ve met along the way…what would life be like without them…
