A perfect poll for a Sunday. This song has special meaning for me. Can’t explain it in a few sentences, but for so many reasons ~ David’s reverence, maintenance of the original latin, the perfect diction, the vocal control ~ I find it both wonderful and difficult to listen to at the same time. But thanks to David, I rediscovered its simple beauty.

I will never understand why we need to put warnings on PUBLIC aspects of David’s mission that everyone wants to know about. This site should have the videos on the front page. I’ve been around since the Fanblast days, posted for awhile and now lurk off an on. Although I disagree with this site’s policy of not mentioning ANYTHING related to the mission, even if public, I still respect everyone for what they do here. What I don’t understand however, is why people were dm-ing each other on twitter, facebook, etc about a livestream on a very public site: LDS.org? I can sort of understand not posting it here (but not really, since links are allowed.) But why DM it on twitter as opposed to just posting it? Twitter doesn’t follow the “gag” rules that this site follows. Why share a public stream with only your close friends when you know that so many would appreciate it? I’m not picking on anyone specifically, so please don’t get defensive. I mean it more as a general idea for people to reflect on and possibly act differently in the future. Hugs to all.
I don’t get it – I think most people just don’t want the hassle/disapproval from other fans who have been vocal about sharing of any mission info. And maybe part of it is that it’s just habit now to take anything to do with David underground. LOL at the fan culture we’re creating.
I didn’t even hear about the stream until it was already started and certainly didn’t know about it beforehand. I think I need my ninja card revoked

I Don’t Get It: I agree with your post. If it was available on LDS.org, why all the secrecy and DM’ing? It’s like some secret club where only the cool kids in the know get to watch the stream lol. Maybe next time there is a live stream on a public website for the world to see, Kari will let fans know. I think there are lots of fans who would have wanted to watch.

O Holy Night. More like O Holy Right. Is there anything this man can’t sing? Any language he can’t learn in two hours? Any genre he can’t champion? Any heart he can’t melt? Sheesh.
David goes — and takes you with him — to places where notes have no names and joy is the only true emotion. I think his Spanish rendition in Chile is the best version of O Holy Night I have ever heard. By him or by anybody else.
And, I agree with Blisskasden. David “cannot escape his greatness, no matter how humble he is.”

Shanny – It was a Christmas Devotional that I believe is an annual event in Chili. It originated from the Temple Grounds in Santiago and was picked up and shown in LDS Churches across Chili. An LDS Authority also spoke at the event and others sang and performed besides David.
Shanny – I’m sure he still wants space and privacy but he only has so much control. I think the bottom line is that he didn’t want to make it all about him to the detriment of what he apparently feels is important about this hiatus. As long as that wish is honored, then I would imagine that it doesn’t bother him.

Something told me to come to Twitter for a visit..it had been hours since I was there. I saw tweets flying about the livestream so I quickly followed the link being shared & caught the last two songs~out of this world! It was one of the most surreal moments I’ve ever experienced. David was magnificent in every way..his VOICE mellow & incredible to hear. He is tan, skin still flawless & appeared to be rested & content. It was just wonderful to see him up close even briefly~early Christmas present!

Amanda Jane – yeah i’m doing well. Life has been a little full and a little stressful but all due to good things ultimately. We all have trials and difficulties in our lives and I have always prayed and asked that mine be due to ‘abundance’ rather than ‘loss’. Well I have had lots of abundance recently lol….you know…. the kind associated with having to ‘get it all done’ and make biggish decisions and keeping important relationships strong etc.
I’m really sorry life has been tough for you recently. I once had a hard time where everything seemed dark and unhappy, I couldn’t perceive that the sun would ever shine again in this life and the birds would never sing another beautiful song…and all that sort of stuff. I was trying to process it all as best I could but it took months, maybe even years (strangely enough, I wasn’t depressed, just trying to deal with some big things emotionally & spiritually) and then miraculously one day I had an experience where I was suddenly able to turn it all over to the Lord and it was like I was healed. Obviously this is not the place to get into religious stuff too much etc…but whatever people trust in, look to in their lives…..it taught me that just like David sings about …’I know life is gonna get better’. Hang in there sister. I don’t know what your particular situation is…but one thing I struggled with during that time and something I have learnt now is….don’t dwell on the thing which causes you the pain. Sure, think about it enough to process it…but no more than the bare minimum. I think I prolonged the pain because I focused on it too much. And yep…look at that contagious joyful david smile as often as possible…especially if he is singing while flashing that grin everywhere.
By the way…thanks for taking my mind off my Archtantrum…I’m already feeling less tantrumy.
I don’t know who Jenni Rivera is…..but boy…when plane crashes are so uncommon…why does it seem like so many celebrities die in them!?
Such a shame, especially if things were just starting to happen for her in her career.

Stupid question; what’s made MJ’s/Rickey’s pick up on this particular event? Maybe it’s because it was so public? I just think it’s interesting what hits with folks and what doesn’t.
Watching the vids is a personal decision Shanny.
They are pretty amazing. But if you aren’t choosing to watch, I think just knowing that David was out there sharing his gift with others during the time of year where he touches the most lives was a present in of itself.

them…..that as some are saying….if the event is public, it’s maybe ok for us to watch….but to me…the blogs and pics and things are still in the realm of ‘private and personal’. I guess I’m concerned with ‘What does DAVID want?’. I have never felt we should give david privacy because that is what the church wants but rather we should give david the privacy because that is what HE wanted. And I guess that is the ongoing dilemma for me…would David be ok with us watching this? I would tend to think so…but i’m just feeling a little tired of the ambiguity of everything. I wish davids team would tweet about it or something and let us know this event is acceptable or something. something like…hey guys, watch the replay of the livestream here…or something. That sure would put my little Archieheart at rest.

Shanny – ITA re: plane crashes. It’s so eerie. And actually she already had a big career in the Latin world but I think she was gaining more “crossover” appeal. Similar to Selena’s situation when she died.
I understand the conflict as far as David is concerned. But, for me at this point it’s not something that I struggle with anymore. If I feel like looking at the vids, etc., then I do. If I don’t then I don’t. Lol. Depends on what day it is. That’s horrible to say but I don’t think it’s something that worries David so much? I think David is happy as long as he’s able to accomplish what he set out to accomplish and that he can still use his talent to inspire others. As long as nothing interfers with that then my thought is that that’s all that really matters to him. So, que sera sera…

It was a public event outdoors and they didn’t tell people that they couldn’t film or anything. There were loads of cameras in the vids and it was streamed on the lds.org site so I would think that is public enough right? lols ……. Ok I said too much. Sorry if I said too much………but you can do what you want of course. It’s just warms my heart to heart that glorious voice again.

I’m not even sure why I posted, lol. Just wanted to catch folks while they were still here, I guess.
Rickey and MJ both support David and has always posted links and stories that fans send their way so I think that is how they got to it.
Here is my thought on watching. Which fan is giving him privacy. The fan who lives in Chili and attends this public event and takes legal video (there were many cameras running) or the fan who lives in the USA and watches it on the internet?
Ksf, yeah…i think I’m probably about the only Archie who still stresses out over yes or no. lol
I hear what you’re saying about it probably not being a big deal to David – after all he couldn’t foretell everything that was going to happen on his mission when he did that last vlog and asked for privacy and he may have been fine with us watching this livestream….but I guess I don’t want to justify anything to myself based upon my own assumptions. I want to get the wrod straight from the horses mouth – or at least from his spokespersons mouth – so to speak.
I know I may be annoying people a bit with my vacillation on this issue….please bear with me friends as i’ve got nowhere else to blab about it and work through the issues.
Maybe FOD will start charging me for the psychological services it provides me…?

Dailylurker…you haven’t said too much…and I don’t feel like anyone is trying to ‘convince’ me…just like I’m not trying to convince anyone either. I actually really appreciate people hashing out the issues with me.
I did actually go and read Gladys’ previous recap in the end because people were saying that david knew and he received her with open arms and he was all good with it…and so I wanted to see for myself if that truly was the case because it would have an effect on whether I watch things or not. Well to be honest, that’s not what I saw when I read the recap. I saw that a senior missionary couple had seen Glady’s recap and were happy with it but I saw that david himself knew nothing about it until he was introduced to Gladys. And there’s my catch again….not what does the church want but what does DAVID want?
The fact that david knew there were camera’s there etc DOES make me think he would be ok with us watching this performance…but then two things pull me up on that also…1. We know what david is like – even if he preferred the cameras weren’t there he would probably just put up with them rather than play the primadonna and ask for a no-camera policy and 2. Since david asked for privacy and designated Kari as his spokesperson, I think it is right for me to wait for the official word fro david through Kari that these public events are ok.

Your choice whether to watch or not, but given the fact that they live streamed it, that they invited Gladys to these concerts, they hug & kiss her hello, that she’s spoken to David, etc…. I think thats a clear message that the pics & vids are ok. I think its Davids way of saying Merry Christmas to us. If you read what Gladys wrote, I think you would feel its ok. Do whats right for you, thats what everyone is doing

Hey tami lyn, I havent watched the news all day, unfortunately, accidents come with the territory. I went grocery shopping yesterday & stayed inside all day. I am happy to have snow for the holidays though. Of course I dont want anyone to have an accident, be hurt or worse, but lots of businesses count on the snow, it helps the economy, etc…

The thing about Kari is…to me there is a difference between saying ‘people need to make their own decision’ and saying ‘yes, go for it, no problemo’ (oh I’m speaking spanish now and didn’t even think I knew spanish AT ALL
Really, its common sense that david probably knows this performance would be seen by the fans. I think its also extremely likely that he’s ok with it this time given that it was public and there were camera’s and even a LIVESTREAM!!!
and I love the idea that it is a little gift from david to the fans – that would make me ecstatically happy – but I keep coming back to the fact that we are just assuming. We don’t know what david really thinks and feels because he hasn’t clarified or rescinded the privacy thing.
Anyway, I think i’ve.got it off my chest for the day, although the dilemma remains for me. Thanks for helping and sharing your thoughts on it guys. I at least feel a lot calmer since having my archutantrum.

Shanny in australia -I dont know what to tell you since I am not very good with advice. With this situation I believe that each of us, individually should choose and not go with the crowd or make are decision because someone said it was wrong or right. If you think its all right then go for it, if you think you are going to regret it later and wont be able to sleep because of it then don’t do it. Is David going to love more a fan that did not watched over a fan who did watched? I dont think so. He loves us equally. Respect can have so many different definitions to each of us. It is we who decide what the definition is and no one else. I think we all get mad about this because we miss him so bad.

Boy what a night. Pastel thanks for your post. pabuckie, love that Christmas tumblr. Just read everyone’s post. Started late. Spazzing over all the vids and now the greeting from David. All this advanced olanning for us is so sweet. Shanny, Gladys mentioned that there was reserved seating for fans set aside in the front row. They knew they were fans. Just thought it might be an indication that David would be okay with that. Just think it might help you with your dilemma. David knows we love him. He may miss us at this time of year. We attended his concerts and gave him great support. He gave us his beautiful voice and wonderful memories, as we did him. If they allowed videos and livestreaming, I believe it was a mutual agreement to share with the world. There were many talented people who participated in the show. JMO
been gone most of the day what a great Christmas present from David, watched all the videos so great to hear his beautiful voice, seeing how great he looks, what an unexpected surprise, the Prayer made me cry so beautiful, so glad to be a fan of his how lucky are we. Stopping to add my two cents. I originally got online this evening to do something on another website, but I decided to check my twitter while I was at it. OMG am I GLAD I did. What an incredible Christmas gift from our angel. I’ve also had a little bit of hard time getting into the holiday spirit, but it’s not a problem any longer. I don’t know how the universe knows when I need some special David time, but it always does and this is no exception. He’s looking more beautiful than ever, he’s sounding incredible(we’ll need survival kits come 2014) and my wish came true to hear him sing ‘The Prayer’. Hope we’ll get to hear it live when he comes home.
And to have his sweet Christmas greeting courtesy of Ivory music is icing on the cake. Bring on the holidays. I am now ready to celebrate

The Prayer. I wept, bawled, complete chills and heart swelled with gratitude for this gift and the others. Shanny since pics and videos were allowed, and the church streamed it on LDS.org, look at it as a gift and take it, and enjoy it.

I’m leaning towards this being a gift. It IS public, they reserved seats for the fans, i think when david asked for privacy he probably didn’t forsee big public events like this being an issue.
Its almost silly for me to dig in my heels and say he wouldn’t be happy with his fans watching these performances. Just don’t want to dishonour his request is all.

Shanny, I think you are starting to make sense. These are public events and we are the public, albeit fans. Thus, this should not be viewed as an intrusion on David’s wish for privacy. He could not have known what was in store for him, in that the mission would use his blessings as a gift to be shared freely, without restraints. I think, personally, he has realized this by now. So, enjoy this beautiful gift from David. (I am always here lurking

The president of the mission is President McArthur and his wife. There is an older couple there on their mission, Elder and Sister McKinley. They seem to be in charge of the Central Jas and the missionary activities. So possibly they were part of the planning for the devotionals as well.

Shanny, I respect your dilema. For me, I try to remember that David asked for us to respect what he was doing, meaning we couldn’t follow him around doing typical missionary work. I doubt he had any idea he would be given the opportunity to perform in public concerts when he made that goodbye blog. I, too, don’t care so much for the blogs from other missionaries, or the random pic at a restaurant, etc…..that doesn’t feel respectful to me. But I feel like this chance to share his heart and talent in this good and very public way is a wonderful blessing……. both for David, for those listening and for us fans. I believe that David has a say in these concerts, and isn’t doing anything he doesn’t want to do,…. and can’t help but know that fans will have the opportunity to see it, especially if it’s on the church’s website. This is just probably not the typical mission experience that he was referring to………and we know this is not typical! I don’t remember David ever even using the word privacy, either……just that we be respectful. Listening to his beautiful voice, remembering his goodness, and being happy about it does not feel disrespectful to me in any way. I truly look at it as a blessing. One that has made this fan very happy!!!

Also the one last night was different — it was outside and a much larger production. I think it was not put on just by David’s local mission like the others. The other ones are smaller and inside.

Keep doing this sort of stuff David with more songs like what u did at Myrtle beach and like on the Begin. album and I think my hubby will be personally booking the airfares and concert tickets! lol Love it!
Hubby also said he wanted us to get going with watching the LDS Christmas devotional tonight so we would ‘have time to watch the DVD’. I can think of only one Dvd he would be meaning – Glad Christmas Tidings! Going to watch that soon.
