A Special Thanksgiving Message From Richard Parkinson “Papa FOD!” (@onerichsong)
Gratitude. I’m so full of gratitude. There are mornings I wake up and can’t believe I get to live the life I do. It truly is a blessing. I think anyone that can truly say that they completely love what they do for a living is extremely fortunate, especially in these economic times.
It hasn’t been easy for us. We have had to create our own way. I teach songwriting classes every week and coach a lot of songwriters and artists privately. I’m also in the studio a ton… sometimes for a ridiculous number of hours at completely ridiculous hours. It’s not glamorous, it’s a lot of work, but we love it! And there is turkey on the table this weekend, so all is well.
It has been an interesting experience for me over the last several years since I started working with David. The music business has changed an insane amount over that time. Budgets aren’t what they used to be, both at the independent and label levels. People used to buy whole albums. That doesn’t happen anymore. People now buy singles and that has cut into the overall profits of the industry (not to mention illegal downloads). There’s nothing wrong with this and there’s nothing to be upset about it, but we’ve had to adjust. Decisions have to be made differently. Where and how we are using resources is different than even two years ago. Those who understood the business 5 years ago seem lost in the fog.
(Now, I’m not talking about the die hard loyal fans like you. I know you all buy albums and for this I say “Thank you!” Your support has been nothing short of impressive. To think that I’m sharing this message today on a website we started over four years ago just blows my mind. We have so many folks visit this site every day. Really, it’s amazing.)
I remember when we started this site. Our hope was to provide an incredibly positive and safe environment for anyone who wanted to share in the joy that David brought them. I think, for the most part, we have provided that. We have never made money from our site. All of those who write, moderate, contribute in any way… well, they do it because they love it and do so completely on a volunteer basis. The hours, and days, and even years that so many have put in to making this site incredible deserve a standing ovation!
I recognized years ago that David is unique. Most of his uniqueness, in my opinion, comes from his absolute humility. I have always appreciated that from him. I have learned an awful lot from him with his loving approach to those around him.
I can’t imagine how difficult a decision it was for him to serve a 2 year mission. To leave everything behind had to be difficult. But he made that decision and I’m so glad he did. I know he’ll come back an even better person than he was before. Mind blowing, isn’t it? But, that’s what a mission does. When you get completely outside of yourself and immerse 100% of your time, talent, and energy into the lives of those you are serving, how could you not become a better person? It’s exciting to think of how he’ll be able to share with all of us once he gets back!
We had a close friend of ours share pictures just yesterday at the airport with her son coming home from his two year mission. It honestly felt like he just left. Two years goes by so quickly. I sit and shake my head every time I think that it’s been almost five years since David was on Idol, nearly eight years since I met him, and over three years since we were in Prague recording the orchestra for “Christmas From The Heart”. Please, give me a minute while I take that all in…
I want to share a sincere thank you to all of you for supporting David, and this site, and especially his decision to serve for two years. There is nothing secret about what he’s doing on his mission. But it is sacred. There’s a big difference. Allowing him to focus on the task at hand is very generous of all of you. So, thank you!
I have been so impressed with the efforts of Kari in keeping everyone in the loop of what David is up to. I think it’s so cool that they are doing what they are for everyone. It’s actually unique that they are allowing the small glimpses into his mission that they are. But, he’s unique, so it fits.
Thank you all for being so wonderful! I look forward to the opportunities of seeing you at future concerts!
Have a beautiful Thanksgiving Day! Don’t forget to pull out the “really good” Christmas music soon

David’s 2010 Thanksgiving Time Challenge
This past week on twitter, I saw someone tweet about missing David’s “challenges.” I wish I would have grabbed the tweet to share here. Even better, though, I’ll repost his twitter challenge from 2010 at this time. He tweeted it the day before Thanksgiving. David wanted us to reach out and visit a neighbor.
The challenge was a good one…. might be a nice time to meet his challenge again.

A 2011 Vlog Sprinkled with Gratitude
David’s vlog last year the week before Thanksgiving was filled with excitement about the approaching Christmas tour and season. He also mentioned plans to spend Thanksgiving with the family, and a number of other recent projects: the Wait vid, GCT promo in Utah, visiting IC, partnership with ChildFund… As I was re-listening to the blog, the word “gratitude” jumped out at me. With each experience David shares, he exhibits a humble appreciation for what he’s been given. And I, so very often, have been grateful for his example!

Thanksgiving Wishes From Andy
Andy wrote a lovely poem of thanks and reflection to share today. Thanks so much Andy for your words and for sending it in!
From Andy Silerio Las Vegas, Nevada @davidarchuleta7
May this Thanksgiving be
a time that overflows
with a happeniess…
And may the beauty of
this season warm your heart
in all the days that follow.
Thanksgiving is the appointed time
for focusing on the good in our lives.
In each of our days,
we can find small blessings,
but too often we overlook them,
choosing instead to spend our time
paying attention to problems.
We give our energy
to those who cause us trouble
instead of those who bring peace.
let’s be on the lookout
for the bits of pleasure in each hour,
and appreciate the people who
bring love and light to everyone
who is blessed to know them.
You are one of those people.
I’m thankful for you guys and David Archuleta.
Happy Thanksgiving! I love you guys so much

“Make You Happy”
Patty-Ann made a sweet little video to share. On a day like today when we’re thinking about all we’re thankful for, and thinking about the important people in our lives, we are reminded of that innate desire we possess just to see them happy…to know they’re happy.

On Being Thankful
Today is a day set aside for all in the US to embrace with gratitude, our freedoms, fun, great food, friends, family, more food, and lots of football (if you’re not on your way to a hockey rink.)
It’s also a time to reflect on, pray for, reach out to, and remember those who have recently experienced loss, illness, devastation, or despair.
Sharing a few things I’m thankful for today …just a few ;)
