Hi- Joanie thanks for the short and sweet Sunday post. I just got home from Thanksgiving shopping. The store was mobbed. Hope I didn’t forget anything. My mom loved to cook for the holidays but she always made way too much. There always was a twist to recipes adding the Sicilian touch. For instance, her stuffing had cooked rice instead of bread and she added sauted ground beef and a beaten egg that would harden a bit in the mixture, then she’d add the Italian herbs and spices…WOW, it was so good!!!!

idamae- We make too much too, but love eating the leftovers and not having to cook for a couple of days. Of course there is a lot of nap taking because of the turkey. Yum, yum. Oh and all those pies. I’m full just thinking about it. I make apple pies. Nothing like homemade apple pies. The store bought or frozen ones can’t compare to my apple pie. The aroma alone, when it’s cooking, is scrumptious, if I must say so myself.

Idamae, your mother knows you were talking about her today! Her stuffing sounds so good and it made me think of my own mother’s cooking. A Jewish cook through and through, her briscuit was just so juicy and her sweet gefilte fish melted in your mouth. She would make schmaltz, too (a heart attack mixture of onions and chicken skin cooked in oil ’til it’s crunchy).
I lurk here everyday when I can, but haven’t commented in weeks. I love your post, Pastel. David has such deep archives — a rich life’s work so far and only 21.
I’m lovin’ all the Christmas music, even though I don’t celebrate the holiday. His voice was made for this time of year and I can think of no other singer who can send you into such a spiritual and serene place.

I guess I’ll wait until Tuesday to do my shopping for Thanksgiving, the stores will be like a zoo by then I guess. I come from a family of 12 children, 8 girls and 4 boys, so Thanksgiving at my house as a kid was really something, I am the 11th of 12. It really was a great time, but really busy for my Mother, and we had the duty to clean up, I really miss the my Mom and the kind of Thanksgiving we had back then.

sgj-yes Gladys is one lucky lady, at least we can get some info from her. Her last recap was great, still not the same wish I could be there, will miss him this Christmas, miss him now. Yes I have a lot of great memories my M & D are gone, but I still have 1 brother & 5 sisters still with me, they all live close by except 1 sister who lives in New Jersey, so we still get together.
Sgj, know what you mean, i only have 2 brothers left in my fam. We were just remenising about old times and our big family get togethers. But all good things must come to an end, so now i enjoy my children and grandsons. I, very grateful for them.

O Holy Night brings so much memories… I wrote to David in a Christmas Card that has O Holy Night in the front with part of the song and I told him how emotional it was to hear him sing that live after the announcement. I told him how I wish when I was at that moment that time would freeze because I knew it would be the last song that I would heard him sing live for a long time. I can still remember what it felt while he sang that emotion. How silent the whole room was and how I felt the emotion he put in it and transfer to all of us.

sgj-My sister lives in Roselle, she lost her power for close to 1 week, said a lot of wind there, some in her neighborhood had slight damage, but she had none, she was so lucky, feel so bad for the people in NY and NJ, we took up a collection in church for them, and some of our young people are going there to help out as much as they can. How a bout you, what part of Jersey do you come from?

When I listen to David sing O Holy Night or Silent Night, its like the people who wrote those songs, wrote them with David in mind, like they knew this glorious voice would be singing them some day, with heart, soul, respect, sincerity & reverence, like no other singer. David was meant to sing those songs

nora- I live in Monroe Township in central Jersey. Roselle isn’t too far from me. my house lost power for 2 weeks, but we were in Maryland so we stayed there till the power went back on. My son lives in an apartment that my husband built over our garage. He lives there with his son. He’s divorced. He hooked up a generator to our refrigerator.No heat, no water, no sewer, no cooking. My other son has volunteered to help in Seaside Heights and Point Pleasant.
Beth-Yes I totally agree. I dont know how David does it to transfer so much emotions to us when he sings.

Pickles, I’ve switched the channel a couple of times to the AMA’s, but it seemed like every song was a production number, the opening song, dont know who was singing & Taylor, lots of production, covers up that she’s not the greatest live singer. I just saw on the yahoo page that the Beav said in an acceptance speech that this is for all the haters who said I’d only be around for 1 or 2 years, etc…….Thats why I dont watch it, its basically a show of the same songs by different people. I guess the fact I’m not watching it much, maybe their are good performances. like you said Kelly, but when I switch to it, like now, same type of song & production as the last time I switched the channel,lol. I hope theres some good stuff on there for those of you who are watching

Beth-I don’t faithfully watch the AMA’s nor the Grammy’s anymore. There are hardly any great performances to hear in recent years. These are supposed to be MUSIC award shows, but where the heck is the music and people who can sing well live? If Justin Beiber can win oodles of Grammy’s, then David, being one of the finest artists in the business sure should! I know in my heart, David’s time will come!! It just has got to! David’s sure a treasure and a one of a kind talent!!!

Anita, well said!!! The point for me is that they are hoping that if we tune in to this yr after yr we’ll believe that it’s the accepted standard and norm for music. The problem is that it’s missing the all important ingredients…musical diversity, integrity and quality.
David may not be on the AMA’s tonight but Pink performed. She was utterly amazing!!

idamae-You hit the nail of the head! AMEN!!! I remember the year Adam Lambert performed on the AMA’s. That awards show was almost a total mess, except for Kelly Clarkson! She was the one shining star, singing like an angel! Kelly gave such a stunning performance, and showed exactly why she won AI!
