Pandora Unforgettable Holiday Moments on Ice: A DAY TO REMEMBER
SPECIAL TO FOD!!!
This will put you in the Christmas spirit! Lily shared her story about her trip to Arizona one year ago today (Nov. 12, 2011) to watch the taping of Pandora Unforgettable Moments on Ice. She also provided some BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW pictures of the rehearsal! They are outstanding!!! Thanks for sharing Lily and can’t wait for the next installment next year!
A DAY TO REMEMBER …..and what a day it was!
By Lily Ikemot0
When I heard that David was performing with these world-class Olympic skaters, with Kristi Yamaguchi as host, I had to go! But how could I go, one of our grandsons was competing in SoCal Special Olympics Winter Games Floor Hockey on Nov. 12 and 13, 2012!! After much thought, rationalizing and planning, I bought 3 tickets on the first day of sales: for me, Pam and Sue, my road-trip companions for yet another drive to Phoenix! Then I bought 1 plane ticket…to fly home early on Sunday morning, because I knew I could get to Irvine near the John Wayne Airport in time for the beginning of the second day of competition and medal awards, for Grandson Brett, a Special Olympics Global Messenger!
To digress a little, there was confusion for the start date of ticket sales on the Disson website: I wrote to their headquarters in the East and they got back to me right away with info I needed. In addition, Disson had added another skater to the already star-studded lineup! This skater was none other than Ekaterina “Katia” Gordeeva, whom I long wished to see in person! I was in seventh-heaven! Also, I have 4 short-track speedskating fan-friends who reside there in the Phoenix area… I told them about the event while in SLC/World Cup races in early October. They also bought tickets and I had a chance to visit with them before and during intermission… fun times! They said that this event had very little advertising locally, which is a crying shame b/c the venue was not sold out! They were happy that I had told them to attend!
In the afternoon before the dress-rehearsal, I wore my fleece top and pants which have *USA SPEEDSKATING* logos on them. I noticed the Arena & Disson personnel glancing at the logos.. LOL! After some confusion, we were escorted in a side door (not the back door..lol) and entered the ice-arena where rehearsals had just started! Personnel didn’t stop us when we went to sit on the opposite side from where most people were sitting; we were pretty much all alone on stage-right, except for 1 professional camera-man setting up his equipment. David was onstage, going over details… and it wasn’t long before he looked in our direction! My eyes were glued to him, thank God, for in one flash of a second, David waved at us subtly; his hand was only waste-high, not drawing a lot of attention.. bless him for that! What a moment that was! But, sadly, neither Pam nor Sue caught that little wave! I can still *see* his little wave today in my mind’s-eye! They proceeded with skating and musical rehearsals with David’s vocal accompaniment, a full set!
Show-time! This was a magical evening for me, as it was for all those in attendance, I’m sure! After the performance, we were invited to stay for re-skate by certain skaters, who had little glitched during the show, like when Michael Weiss fell into the laps of the pretty ladies in the front row opposite the stage! WOW… to stay for the re-skate was a no-brainer; no arm-twisting needed… to be able to see and hear David sing once more!
That night, I slept a couple hours before an early flight to SoCal, to Irvine Roller Rink on time for Grandson Brett’s floor hockey games!
For this year, I didn’t include still-photos of David singing during the
main performance (some have been seen already)… I’ll save those for
next year… 11-12-13! LOL
Check out all of Lily’s pictures in the slideshow below. Credit goes to Lily Ikemoto and Pamela Pike, who also took some of these with Lily’s camera. A great collaboration!
Lily also took a few videos of the performances!
Northern Lights ~ I LOVE THIS ONE!!!!!! Haunting!
Pat – a Pan ~ What did I tell you about getting in the Christmas spirit??? How I will miss this live this Christmas. Just had to get that out….
To Be with You Re-do (not by David, by the skaters lol)

Go-getters, make it so! David Archuleta + Figure Skating = MAGIC!
I’ve said it before. There is something about David Archuleta’s interpretation of music coupled with a skater’s athletic/artistic interpretation of the same song. Together, they are magic to watch and listen to. Case in point: My Kind of Perfect and Joannie Rochette at Skate For The Heart.
Can you imagine what is possible with Broken on BEGIN.?? Leagues of skaters, young and old, should be skating to David Archuleta music.
So, Go-Getters, do you have a local skating club nearby? Know a young skater in need of new music for their competition solo? Know a skating coach? Does you arena need new music for their Friday evening public skate? And…… do you have an extra CFTH or BEGIN.?
If you are feeling adventurous and generous, please seek out some of these locations and provide a ‘pre-Christmas donation’. Talk to a skater, a parent, a skating coach, or the staff who control the CD player. Introduce them to David’s music. And let us know how it turns out!

Delivering Hope! With CFTH included!
A few weeks ago, Karin (@zerogravity1) reached out to David Archuleta fans to ask for a few more CFTH CDs for her “Hope & Hearts” Baskets for the patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. And you responded, and then some! Here is tweet to show appreciation No, Karin, THANK YOU!

What do Ed Sheeran, Phillip Phillips and David Archuleta have in common?
Well, Ryan Seacrest is here to answer that for us! This is the second time this week there is a RySeacreast-Archie-related tweet. Oh my!

Happy 4th Birthday to David Archuleta’s debut album!
Wow! Can’t believe it’s been 4 years since the release of David Archuleta’s self-titled debut album! How does it feel to have a 4 year old child, David? It doesn’t feel that long ago to me, to be honest. Seems just like last week (yesterday’s too recent)…
I remember on the morning of 11/11/2008, my mom and I went to Target with a family friend. I immediately darted toward the CD section and found a row of David’s face on the shelf and grabbed a copy…not before I’ve checked for scratches and cracks on the case like I had OCD or something though. The family friend asked about the CD and David and my mom explained. He then said that he should probably get a copy for his daughters too, but you know what my mom said? She said that we can just burn a copy for them! I was so mad but couldn’t show it while he was there! Later, I told my mom that I wanted his album to do well and sell more, so she should have let him buy it haha! However, that’s not yet the end of my David adventures for that day.
After I got home, I immediately went on YouTube trying to listen to all the iTunes and Walmart bonus tracks. I was getting increasingly anxious as I couldn’t find a couple of the songs, which was so dumb of me since the album just came out. Anyways, after that, I put the album into the CD slot of our super old stereo system, and it kept spitting out the CD! I had to keep pressing the close button every time, but the 50 times it spat out the CD sure gave me enough time to read David’s 3,000-word liner notes! The player eventually accepted the CD, thank goodness! I remember thinking “Barriers” was weird, but it has grown to be one of my favorites. I really wished I could have bought the iTunes copy with bonus tracks, but I was just a poor high school sophomore LOL! It sure was an eventful day and I was so glad that I didn’t have school because of Veteran’s Day.
My favorite track on the album: A Little Too Not Over You
My favorite bonus tracks: Waiting For Yesterday, Works For Me, Somebody Out There
The album (released under 19 Entertainment/Jive Records) has since been certified gold by RIAA (as of January 2009) and the lead single, “Crush,” has since sold over 2 million copies (yay double-platinum!).
p.s. when I went back to Taiwan the next summer, I made sure to look for it! I liked their cover better because he was smiling, but taking off the outer case, the actual CD still has the same cover lol. My brother asked if I was going to buy it, but I said no because that was the only copy and I want someone to have a chance to discover his music too
Masterclass Lady reviewed the debut album
I read it with interest the David Archuleta debut CD review (dated Dec. 5, 2008) again yesterday. She really nailed so much of what I was thinking, but certainly didn’t have the musical vocabulary to articulate! Since that time, we have seen David evolve musically and take the studio versions to a new level when performed live (My Hands, Don’t Let Go are 2 great examples). Just to think…the review was 4 short years ago, but so much was accomplished, explored and refined regarding those songs, and more, since that time!
Here are a few excerpts from the full review here.
How I love the absolute beauty of David’s voice at the beginning of this song! And, at the .42 second mark, he gave us a wonderful glimpse of the rich texture of his lower range when he sang the word “you”. Can you hear how clear and transparent his voice sounds throughout his range? Gorgeous! Just gorgeous!
I love the fuller orchestral and vocal sound at the 1:00 minute mark – it adds another harmonic layer to the melodic content of this song. And, at this point, we hear David’s beautiful head voice and the pitch perfect clarity that comes along with it.
This is a rhythmically interesting song and I love how the vocals alternate from a more subdued position to an increasingly lush and full sound. It is truly wonderful to hear David singing a duet with himself – one gets a clear picture of the seamless and flawless quality of his voice when both head and chest voice become one.
Don’t Let Go
And, for the second time on this CD, David’s composing talents are highlighted. What a superb musician! At every point in this song, David’s vocal ability is clearly transported to the listener. His head voice is audible at every turn of a phrase. It is pitch-perfect and centered and full of expressive energy and passion.
I love the communicative aspects of this song so very much and David’s voice is clearly embracing the lyrical and melodic line with authenticity and artistry.
Also, it is great to hear the lower end of David’s voice for the majority of this song – he sounds like an entirely different person, doesn’t he? His lower voice is extremely developed and resonant considering his young age.
