Happy 4th Anniversary!

Can it really be that 4 years have gone by since the debut of David’s very first album?  Remember when we first saw the album photo shoot and the cover shot showing that David was “IT”?  I still remember the excitement and anticipation as we watched him evolve from a shy, soft-spoken Idol contestant into, well, this album cover says it all!

Dance Down Memory Lane

Uploaded on Nov 9, 2008

“FINALLY got another blog up giving an update on what went on this weekend. Sorry it took so long, I just avoid making them since I have such major issues making anything that involved me talking. I should probably find a way to take blog-making classes or something.”

There was a whirlwind of album signings and tv appearances to promote the album, and we got to see a lot of David on TV!  Remember the absolute giddy anticipation of waiting for David to come out for autographs and pictures?  Waiting, sometimes for hours, then when David finally makes an appearance all heck breaks loose!  David is one of the few artists who makes an extra effort to go out and meet his fans – if there is ANY way possible for him to meet his fans, even contrary to his security or his handler’s objections – he’ll do it!  He’ll sign pictures, phones, cameras, iPods and even the back of your hand!  His love and appreciation for his fans is one of the things that makes him so special!

The album signing at the Virgin Mega Store was INSANE!  Listen to all the screaming!  I would have loved to be at this signing, but alas I picked up my album at midnight from the local WalMart lol.

There are so many vids on You Tube that capture all the excitement of the debut album release, but we can’t post them all here for fear of crashing the site!  There are great tv appearances, interviews and performances of songs from the album.  We encourage you to share your favorites in comments – just post a link!

I will however, post the AOL performances of songs from the debut album – David is singing with a live band and sounds amazing!  These performances were a defining moment and a promise of all that was to come when David performs live – and we’ve celebrated 4 years of incredible music from David ever since!

Debut Album Photo Shoot

The awesome debut album photo shoot by photographer Jeff Riedel brought us pictures of David sporting some major smoldering looks!  Very different from what we were used to seeing on Idol – but hey, no complaints from us!

  3. NorthCarolinaGirl♥Marylee says:

Good Morning my fellow Archies ♥

It’s so hard for me to believe it’s been four years since David’s debut “little red” CD was released. Omgsh…I can remember so well the “over the moon” excitement on FOD and all the hours we spent sharing our thoughts about what our favorite songs were. At that time “Desperate” and “Barriers” were two that stood out for me, but since then I have found something special in each & every one…with the exception of “Running”…still growing on me..haha ~Thank you David for four years of magical music & memories for us to share~simply THE BEST and we are forever grateful for all you’ve done for us. Just think…the journey continues! #DA2014

Have a beautiful Silent Sunday everyone :)

  4. NorthCarolinaGirl♥Marylee says:

P.S. THANK YOU Kalei for another fabulous post! :)

  5. Janel aka Nellie says:

I wonder how much effort it would take to finally get that debut album to platinum. Anyone know what the actual US sells are? I think it’s over 800 thousand right? Or already close to 900 thousand. I know there was a recent sales count but I can’t find where.

  6. Janel aka Nellie says:

Happy Veterans day to those who have served or who are currently serving in our armed forces including my dad Dan (Navy), my brother Jerry (Air Force) and my nephews Travis (Air Force) and Robert (Army). Also my co-leader and friend Dave (Army).

  7. angelbymyside says:

Thanks for the fabulous Sunday post Kalei :D

Happy Veterans Day and God bless all who have or currently serve in our military. It is because of you that we are able to enjoy the freedoms that we so value in our country.

What great memories looking back at the fun times surrounding David’s debut CD. I can’t believe it has been four years! I’ll always ♥LOVE♥ my little red CD…it holds a special place in my ♥heart♥.

  8. lct#DA2014 says:

Janel, wouldn’t it be a great gift to give David – the status of platinum for his debut album – by the time he returns? :) I’m for up a challenge!

Also, didn’t know this was a category. Can you all throw more votes toward this one?

    sandritangel #DA2014‏@sandritangel

  9. angelbymyside says:

LCT ~ I was not even aware of that category “best love team”

  10. LurkeyTurkey says:

To anyone here who is a veteran or family member of a veteran, thank you all very much for your service to our country. There are not enough words of appreciation.

  11. LurkeyTurkey says:

I just found out David will be performing at Christmas concerts for his church. This troubles me some. I was troubled a bit when I heard he performed recently but this “series of concerts” really bothers me. I wonder why his church would perhaps exploit him this way. Isn’t it obvious by the fact that he went on a full two year mission and we have not heard anything directly from him that he wants the real missionary experience? Why would his church single him out to do this? I know he would always be gracious and never refuse his superiors but it bothers me that they can’t treat him like all his fellow missionaries. How can he have a true mission experience he longs for when they single him out? I am so sorry for this rant but I have such a difficult time accepting he did this, then I hear he’s performing like a missionary rock star. Just do not understand. Sorry.

  12. kimk says:

Lurkey Turkey why are you worried about it? glad he is doing all this just sad we don’t get to see any of it.
as for using him.. works both ways.. they get folks in and David gets to sing.
win win situation way I see it.

  13. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

Hello Everyone! Listening to David’s Begin while doing household chores, makes the work so much more pleasant

Hey LurkeyTurkey! I’m sure everyone on mission uses his or her’s talents, whatever they may be, just they would at any other time in their life. Davids music brings joy to people, so would Elder who plays music during the concerts, heard he’s incredible. Whats wrong with sharing music with others? David said he would have a chance to sing on his mission, I bet he’s loving it. Its the way he’s most comfortable communicating with people, so I say, Go For it David, sing your little heart out, everyone will be better off there for it

I want to also, Thank everyone who has served, who is serving or who plans to serve in the armed forces, your time, effort, pain, suffering & sacrifice is something I dont know if I could ever convey what it has meant to me. We dont always agree here, but we have the right to say what we feel, wear what we want, write what we want, work where we want, pursue whatever we want to in life. Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness, what greater gifts can one ask for  Thanks to my Uncle Paul, who served in World War II, My Dad in Korea(not part of the conflict) & Japan, My Uncle Roy, who served in Korea and beyond & my brother Josh, who served during the first gulf war & was set to go to Iraq, but the day before he was suppose to go, he was told he didnt have to go. THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!

  14. NorthCarolinaGirl♥Marylee says:

Lurkey Turkey….nothing to worry about. Music is in David’s blood. It’s a blessing that he is allowed to continue to do something he loves so much…share his voice in more ways than one while he’s on his mission. win/win for sure Kim!

  15. NorthCarolinaGirl♥Marylee says:

Thinking of my Dad today on Veteran’s Day and always. Thank you to all those brave men and women who have served to keep our country safe. ♥

  16. Janel aka Nellie says:

I would venture to bet that David knew he would be performing at firesides and devotionals on his mission before he even left. Spreading the gospel via music is just one way to do it. David’s “Be Still My Soul” at a devotional on YouTube is what started my way back to church. He is a great example of someone who is filled with the spirit when he sings, or when he just meets people. What a better way to touch people’s hearts for David than through his voice. And we all know that extra something comes through when he sings Christmas songs. We all have felt it and he loves Christmas music. Exploitation? Maybe a tad, but you can’t really exploit someone who knows what he’s doing and what the church is doing to utelize his gift while on his mission. A lot of fans were worried he wouldn’t get a chance to sing except at church on Sunday. That worry has been put to rest. Keep his voice warmed up for when he returns.

  17. kimk says:

    waving hi up top there!!

gorgeous day.. lol and I am ironing!! :)

  18. Ali says:

Janel – Last sales number we got for the debut album were 765K, which was in February 2011. I’m not sure how much its sold since then but I’d say not much since sales on older albums are usually pretty small without some defining event. That means it would require an additional 230,000-ish to reach platinum in the US. Not to be a downer but I’m not sure I see that happening.

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday! Thanks for the awesome post, Kalei — I think I need to go listen to a certain album… ;)

  19. Janel aka Nellie says:

Kimk, good for you. The last time I ironed something was my son’s graduation gown in June. I own things that don’t need ironed, on purpose. I hate doing it. Of course I hate folding clothes too, but that can’t be avoided.

  20. Janel aka Nellie says:

OK Ali and thanks….oh and dang!

  21. Ali says:

That doesn’t mean that we can’t still buy copies though. I think I’ve worn through my 3rd or maybe 4th copy now. And I have to keep one for the house and one for the car. LOL.

  22. breanne says:

  23. breanne says:

Wow, don’t know how I got the voting page to show up!! LOL!

  24. Ali says:

Maybe I’m losing my mind but I don’t remember seeing David & Jasmine on that Love Team poll yesterday. And I looked because I was checking to see all the NA stuff I could vote for. Maybe they added them after they saw how many votes David was generating?? I always have ~theories ;P

  25. kimk says:

Ali could be.. David is sure doing well over there! as well he should!
lol still cracks me up.. LOVE TEAM!! :D

looks to me like he is winning?!

Thanks for posting that Kim :D

  29. muldur says:

lurky turkey, I wouldn’t assume the church is using him and this is somehow against his will. David loves to sing (of course) and has often sung in church settings. Singing for devotional concerts and Young Single Adults (like the last one was) are not to promote his career at all. As noted, music is an integral part of the church. It’s a natural extension for him to do devotional music for families at Christmas time. He has always sung Christmas music. Missionaries sing all the time. Ours are in our choir and we sing every week at church and who knows where else. We have no idea what the circumstances are but to me, singing does not fall outside of his mission experience. It’s just a beautiful part of it.

  30. cq#DA2014 says:

Back from my fabulous cruise and so excited to come back to a snippet of RAINBOW remix….what fun!!!! It’s going to take a while to go through all the great posts and fun comments, but I will enjoy reading everything.

  31. Grammyj says:

turkey lurkey, I think if I were somehow his mission president, I would have David sing even more. David loves to sing and he has said that he can sometimes express himself better through singing than his spoken words. I think he can actually be a better missionary by singing. I think David would have been disappointed if he hadn’t been able to sing. It seems to me that singing is almost like breathing to David. Be happy got him, turkey lurkey.

  32. TGRArchie says:

Just noted this new rule in the Entertainment Lifestyle Poll which is printed right after the statement Voting starts below:
YOU CAN CHOOSE MULTIPLE NOMINEES IN EACH CATEGORY & VOTE AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE!
So in voting for the breakthrough performance we can vote for David, Jasmine, and Eula at the same time. (“,)

  33. Ali says:

welcome back, cq!! i’ve been wondering where you were — can’t believe i forgot about the cruise. we’ve missed you :)

  34. TGRArchie says:

  38. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Happy Anniversary to David Archulet’s debut album….I remember I took the day off work just to go to Walmart and buy multiple copies and spent the day listening to David sing…… I still listen to some of those songs everyday….While I’m looking at all the press and videos of the hoopla surrounding David’s big release day back in 2008, I just can see how much David has grown up and changed since that album dropped four years ago…..He is still our sweet David, but you you can see how much he has matured and grown up. A bit more wise and knowing and a LOT more articulate …..Even his smile is a little different…..That was before his invisible braces….Even his teeth are straighter now……LOL……Cheers to our grown up David….Miss Vicki

  39. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Hey Amanda Jane….That is AWESOME that you were in a store playing STR…Where do you live????? I wish the stores here in Richmond, Virginia, would play David’s songs…..I do remember two years ago our company started playing music in the lobby area at Christmas and they kept playing David and Charices’ duet…….needless to say I kept spending more and more time in the lobby hanging out…LOL…..Miss Vicki

  40. Janel aka Nellie says:

It’s supposed to get down to 10-15 degrees overnight. Need to pull out an extra blankie and I think the chill I just got requires some hot cocoa!
And, I’ll curl up to some David Christmas music.

  41. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Hey Sarahazel…..Hope you had fun in Nashville….Did you go to any of David’s haunts or fav restaurants????? Welcome back home to Northern VA…..Miss Vicki

  42. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Yes Vicki, I’m in Pleasant Grove (Utah county same as Orem, Provo where BYU is, etc.). Tomorrow is supposed to get up to only 36 but it will warm a little the rest of the week to the 50′s. It doesn’t help that there’s a dang draft under my door. My front door is close to where my computer is set up right down the bottom stairs. Brrrr!!!

  46. blue says:

janel – i LOVE what child is this. love love love it. didn’t really think much about it untill David sang it but it’s such a beautiful song and one of my favorites live.

  47. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Hey Janel… I just learned this week that our new Medical Diretor at work is Mormon and went to Brigham Young University and my new boss likes David Archuleta….Guess I am gonna have some VIP company at David’s next concert…BTW….I just love, love, love the pic of thoughtful David with the lavendar at the bottom of this post………..I know I shouldn’t say this too loud but he is so so sexy in a romantic kind of way……..Miss Vicki

  48. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Hey Janel…Thanks for sending What Child is This our way……What a beautiful song by a a beautiful David….Time to get all my David Christmas music out……Happy Veterans Day and Goodnight all…..Miss Vicki

  49. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Hey cq….Welcome back……Where did you go on your cruise???? Hope you had an awesome time….Really gotta go to bed now….Miss Vicki

  50. Grammyj says:

TuryeyLurkey, I did not see one post agreeing with you. Also God wants us to use our talents to serve Him. We all know that David’s talent is singing so he is using that talent on his mission. I just can’t see how that could possibly be a bad thing.

  51. cq#DA2014 says:

Miss Vicki, glad to be back. I went on a Caribbean Cruise. It was so much fun, but I’m so tired, I need the next week just to recop (lol), however, would do it again in a heart beat.
I read that David will be doing a lot of Christmas shows in Chile, so happy that he gets to sing, but so sad that we devoted fans will not be able to hear any song from one of those shows.

  52. cc halo says:

Think LurkeyTurkey has signed off, but while I’m sure David is very happy to be able to perform to help his church, I agree that he’s definitely not having a typical missionary experience.

I read a Kindle book called “Heaven Up Here” about an LDS missionary’s experience in the poorest South American country–Bolivia. The conditions were incredibly harsh and he has lasting health effects from it. Chile, by contrast, is the richest SA country, relatively safe, and relatively easy to attract converts, (compared to Europe where it’s really difficult). So not only is David getting a break from proselytizing by spending time preparing and practicing for concerts, he’s in probably the most ideal missionary situation there is–a coveted foreign mission that is safe.

  53. cc halo says:

P.S. Not to mention that the part of Chile where David is, has a very nice, California-like climate.

  54. VaBeachArchie says:

Good morning FOD! HAPPY MONDAY! Exhausting weekend at work….he long hours and CRAZY sales have started already! And it’s NOT even Thanksgiving yet!!

Welcome back cq and sarahhazel! Traveling is always FABULOUS but like David has said many times, “There’s NO place like home!” Sounds like your trips were AWESOME! Miss Vicki glad you’re back in the swing of things after your jaunt to Europe!

Doing my David duties…VOTING on the polls! Glad to see David and Nandito Ako doing so well! TV5 deserves credit for taking a chance on David as a leading man…and David didn’t disappoint! Let’s win that poll!!

Janel, blue…LOVE What Child Is This! Not familiar with the song either until David included it on his album! Thanks Janel for posting!

Nana patrol! ENJOY YOUR DAY EVERYONE! Last warm day here at the beach…70′s! :)

  60. nora says:

cchalo, I think you have always had a problem with the missionary part of David’s decision to go on a mission, how do you know, how much proselytizing and helping people there David does. I have read your comments on other fansites, that you totally disagree with David going on a mission, so I don’t think any where he was sent you would agree with. JMO. I’m glad that David is able to share, what he believes , was talent given to him by God with others, that is also JMO.

  61. cc halo says:

nora, you’re right that I disagree with proselytizing and thus with the type of mission that David is doing. And of course, the whole point of the previous concerts was to convert the youth of the area, or there wouldn’t have been the age and residence qualifications to attend.

But I’ve never questioned his right to do or believe as he wants, nor his pure motives. And hopefully you noticed in my comment that I disagreed with LurkeyTurkey that David minds doing the performances. But I was supporting the idea that it might not exactly be the typical mission experience. You’re right that I wouln’t be “happy” with any mission location, (except maybe my own town ;) ).

  62. cc halo says:

P.S. I wasn’t going to comment at all, but I sometimes like to lend a little support if someone is being chastised, however gently, for having an alternative views of things. I think it’s enough to just disagree.
