Ode to The Scarf~ “Scarfchuleta”

OK, truth be told, I went to the Urban dictionary just for fun to see if this accessory made famous by David Archuleta was in there. There were a couple definitions which semi applied, one involving “a garment of clothing around the neck” and the other involved loving food. *bingo* However, the urban dictionary sometimes adds other words which can’t be used on the front page of FOD ;)
I also took out my handy dandy Archunary which came out a little over 3 yrs ago if I remember right. First Edition! Archuscarf will be in the 2nd edition, I’m sure! 
We asked fans to send in their favorite “Archuscarf pics” yesterday, and we had a nice response! Thanks everyone for sending them or tweeting them to us! It’s fun to go back through pics and vids to find them…as simple as a scarf may seem, in many cases. they become markers of specific “David performances or moments” that are dear to our hearts!
This first scarf is a “seriously warm scarf” worn by David on a chilly November day in New York at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
@CanadianArchie (Cindy) tweeted these scarf pics. Appropriately taken in Toronto at the Chum’s Breakfast Meet and Greet! Cutest pic ever! It somehow reminds me of a future vlog called “Puffy cheeks be gone.” This scarf is called the”Chummy Scarf.”

Next we have a lovely “First-Time” scarf/memory from @myheartsong. Robin shared “I know this isn’t the best pic, but it’s special to me. Yesterday I posted a photo of David wearing his “Joe Fresh” scarf. Jenny FOD shared the story of this JF scarf back in January of 2009
“Patty, I want to thank you on behalf of all of the fans at FOD. Patty, if you will all remember, bought a Joe Fresh scarf for Jeff Archuleta way back in Toronto late last fall, and David claimed it for his own. He has worn it to the Chicago Jingle Bash, the WPLJ radio interview, and the Latino Inaugural Gala, among other places that I’m probably not remembering.” Dark charcoal with a stripe..it always looked so nice! Another favorite scarf a few years ago was “gray wool bell-ringing scarf!” Classic! Could it possibly be the same as his “Chum” scarf?

A favorite scarf of mine that David wore when I traveled to Florida in the summer of 2009 for a magical 3days 3 David Archuleta shows weekend with friends!!! On the 2nd night of our weekend, David performed in Sunrise, FL. It was the first year anniversary of the release of “Crush!” Complimenting the city he performed in, I’m calling this the “sunshine scarf!”
Loved the combo with the white T ! He sure lit up the stage that night!! When he sang Touch My Hand, like the man behind the curtain, he was larger than life!!

It is my opinion that there is more harm done to David and his career by those who want to give us all advice on what David wants and tell us how to behave than by those of us who are just looking at pictures and reading an occasional missionary blog. That anyone would say that David and the mission president were mad after the July devotional (in my opinion) is way out of line and not true. How could they possibly know that???? But, I do think it does harm to David for anyone to pretend to know for a fact what David wants and to scold his fans because “they” don’t approve. If all of his fans quit looking at pictures and reading a line or two in a harmless blog and just go away completely, David won’t even have a career when he gets back. We are not the entire country of Chile (or United States) trying to find out every little thing about David while he’s gone……we are some fans on a few “David” websites who love to see pictures – any pictures – of David. Harmless. We wouldn’t even be talking about it now if we hadn’t been reprimanded.
Let me just say….again….that I don’t for one minute think that David or his mission president was mad about anything. My opinion.

Way I see it, the drama causes all the attention, NOT the handful of fans finding a few crumbs about his mission on the Internet, or even the brief recaps, the drama keeps it going, kind of self-defeating for those that want absolutely nothing shared about his mission if you ask me.

I think David does not want his career to benefit in any way from his Mission nor does he want to alienate any fans by mixing his religion into his career, reason I think he’s tried to stay under the radar anyway. Wants to serve with no ulterior motive of gain for himself. Again just my own opinion.

I know I’m way late with this comment but I thought it merited mentioning. This is in regard to a comment by Martha a few days ago regarding David’s family members approving of mission pictures being posted.
I believe that I saw the same comments Martha mentioned but upthread from them I saw something else. A post had been made questioning whether we should be seeking out photos and info regarding David while he is serving his mission and 2 people had “liked” it. One was a fan. The other was David’s mother. She hadnt “liked” any other comments in that very long thread that included all the arguments we read about being adults and free speech. She hadn’t “liked” the comments by her family members. Just the one. That seems relevant to me.
I always post on the previous post after a new post is up. You would think I would learn to look first. Here is what I posted.
You know, I really don’t pay any attention to those people who say they know how David thinks and feels. David has said he wants to perform when he returns…we all have heard him say that in interviews. He is a smart guy, and although he wants to spend his time now doing for others and spreading the word of God, I can’t imagine why he would want his fans to move on totally and not care about him any more. Do I think fans should charter a plane and fly to Chili and follow him around? Of course, not, but if David and the President were mad about there being fans at the first event, why would they schedule another event, publicize it, and have David perform not only church related songs but other songs. That doesn’t even make sense. Maybe because I am 71 years old and pretty much don’t pay attention to others who try to tell me what to do, I think these naysayers just have a need to feel important. I am not telling them what to do, so they need to let me make my own decisions. I have made my decision. I will enjoy any news that I get about David during this 2 year mission.
David is the first really famous missionary to go on a mission. Did they really expect that there would be no leaks? If so, they are very naive.
grannycrush…the point of David being the first famous missionary to serve is a very good point! NOT only famous in the USA but internationally! Hard for someone so LOVED by his fans NOT to be on their minds and in their hearts! Fans deserve CREDIT for how they have shown their support, admiration, loyality. love and respect for David…way to go Archies!

The worse thing IMHO is to alienate this fanbase. If David wants a career to come back to he needs fans when he returns. 2yrs is a long time to be away for someone who is not a mega recording star…so it is important not to alienate fans for reasons IMO that do not make sense. He is in another country is not tweeting or blogging so what is the difference if a picture or someone tweets/post that they have seen or heard him is being reported? What actual harm does it do? I’m sure he knew going in that somethings would surface from his mission. I have followed this fansite since it’s begining and I must say David has wonderful fans and fan support. Also David is a recording artist first and foremost his music brought us here to begin with not his religious affilation. His fans are from all cultures/religious backrounds/ages/etc.

, Go girl, I totally agree with you and I’m not afraid to say that I am 72 years old, and I believe everybody can do what they want , just don’t tell me what to do, I think I’m old enough to make my own decisions. The truth is I don’t think most of us care much about other people telling us what they think is right. The problem to me is when they tell us that what is right for them should be right for us. That is what gets me all wound up. And, as someone else said a couple of days ago, the need for anyone to go tattling to Kari as if they expect her to tell us what we should do and get us all under control is just over the line as far as I’m concerned. Fortunately, Kari understands that she isn’t the boss of David’s fans and we will all do what we think is right for us. As I said before, we’re harmless.
Amen to that Mango, the Kari thing I mean. First of all, I wouldn’t expect Kari to say too much or anything about David in Chile other than the direct stuff he tells her to say. She is the manager of his professional career NOT his mission or personal life which this would be. Secondly, I see fans messaging her all the time wanting approval for this or that. I follow her to get any info she will be sharing with us in regards to David and his career. I don’t know her and she is not a personal friend. I think she has been more than patient with the neediness of some fans. I too think it is ridiculous to ask her what you should and shouldn’t look at concerning David.
Anyway I still hold the opinion that the main reason for David’s lack of sharing is his desire to serve without any gain for his career. I think he wants to be serving for all the right reasons and would feel guilty if he encouraged any benefit for his career because of it.
You know that if he did blog or share their would be haters talking about how he exploited his mission for a career boost, damned if you do damned if you don’t kind of thing. Personally, think he’s done a tremendous job keeping things separate. But would be surprised if he’s spent much time worrying about what the fans may or may not see about him during this time in Chile, think he’s much too immersed in what he’s doing for that. Just thinking about his very rule following selfless personality I think he may feel bad if he thought his career was benefitting from any encouragement from him or his team. Hope that made sense. All my own thoughts and opinions.
People need to just chill and stop bringing more attention to it, if they have a problem with it, by telling others what to do. Sadly only fans are doing the alienating, not David or his team but he’s the one that will suffer in the long run.
Its a new day………one step in front of the other…………I am going start have to give some piggys out if people don’t start cheering up!! Who wants a piggy?

Sorry Oinkiers if you think I was out of line for commenting, just trying to give my perspective on one of the current topics of discussion. Not throwing any tomatoes at you but I just think different people read comments at different times and sometimes want to share what they are feeling, kinda what keeps this site going. I “look in” often but most days don’t have anything to add or say so I don’t. These past couple of days been reading stuff here and on twitter and felt like I had something worth saying today.
looking in ~ yeah that’s the hard part, only david knows. the pressure to constantly perform and smile for the camera is no longer there for him but now he has a different kind of pressure. the whole world knows he’s on a mission so now if he doesn’t do everything “perfectly right” everyone will know.

oinkiers~ this is what’s bothering me: i’m a fan of alot of singers and from my personal experience online, david’s fanbase it the only fanbase that has fans that actively enjoy reprimanding and making other fans feel bad. it’s like we have to be so careful everything we say or do or look at for fear someone is gonna tell us we are doing something wrong. it really does take away from the fun of being a fan. if things keep going in this direction i will be suprised if there are any david fans left in 2014
and i was afraid to even post this for fear someone will come on and tell me i’m being negative. but whatever. i try to be positive 90% of the time but sometimes this whole mission thing just makes me very sad for us fans.
My turn:
tami lyn – I believe he is very happy doing what he is doing. Giving to others is second nature to him. The pressure is alot less because he is not that well known in Chile as here.
Also, the majority of the pictures from his mission were either taken at the very public devotional on July 15, in which those were allowed. The other pics come from the mission website which are posed pics with other missionaries. Very few are from missionary blogs. I would guess it was assumed these pictures would make it to the internet. The pics posted by his mission of course are public. I have seen none where he is talking to people, walking, shopping, etc. (There are the ones in the restaurant and on the bus and those are both posed; he may not have thought they would get out, but they were taken by a member of the Youth Group in Chile and put on a fansite in S. A.)
I said all that to say, no one has been sneaky taking pictures without his knowledge. He is refusing opportunities to take pictures which is very much his right. All of the ones I have ever found were first published by someone else on public sites. In a nutshell, without these public mission events, there would be almost no pics.
Well, I’ve had my say. Hope it makes sense. Sorry to be Debby Downer, but I know this forum allows us to speak what we feel.
martha~ yeah i have no problem with any photos. i just do not understand the fans who DO have a problem with it. and i’m sick of them trying to make us feel bad.

Tami lyn- I understand what you mean……look at this way IMO if one person is pointing thier fingers at others saying you are doing wrong and you should do this than that person is just in the wrong or more! Last I checked what is right for one person might not be for another…….. just like how I raise my kids might not work for another! i do find it sad that people feel the need to “judge”. Jusat now that Davids fans are not going any where!! We are here to stay!!

Just wanted to say that I am thankful for all the fans that share the little tidbits about D. It warms my heart to hear little things here and there about how he is doing. It makes these 2 years more bearable not having his presence. Boy do I miss the tweets and the vlogs and just his beautiful smile. So happy about what Kari said and I’m going to ignore people that think they know what is best for D. David knows what is best for himself. He is a grown man for goodness sake!

Pepper Bellies!!! Are a small bag of chips, any kind, the teens usually like cheetos spicey or plain. Actually any small bag of chips of any kind. you cut across the top of bag and you mash them a little, pour chilie beans on top. top with nacho cheese. and if you want sliced jalapenos. Eat with a fork. Very popular with kids and teens. Onions are optional.

Bychance- Sounds like you have all your scarves in a row and accounted for. When we went to the Christmas From The Heart Tour concerts we got a red or blue scarf with David Archuleta emroidered on it, enclosed in a VIP gift bag. I have four of them because My husband and I went to Stroudsburg and Montclair VIP’s. It was funny because I gave him a scarf at the Monclair concert.
Yes i do SGJ! I /just haven’t driven in LA traffic for some time now. If i have too i can, but i still don’t like traveling alone.
Wish i had a scarf, maybe he will still wear them when he comes back. They need to sell scarf with his other merchandise, i would buy one.

SGJ! You never pry. I use to Drve alone all over the place years ago, but my reflexes aren’t as good as they use to be. I can drive to LA but i like some one to go with me. They can stay or go shopping. As long as i go.
Linda and Bychance- The scarves were in the VIP bags they give you as part of the VIP package . You get tickets in the first ten rows, a David T Shirt, Key chain, picture or poster of David. Early admission, free parking and refreshments and you get to meet & greet Mr. David James Archuleta and get your picture taken with him and in a few weeks you get it on the internet. It is so worth. Now that the economy is getting worse, you probably won’t get as much for the same price but it is worth it just to see David and get a hug.Oh and you get to sit in on sound check, where David sings a few songs. Then there is the fabulous concert. sigh!!

And maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like it was my bluntness that made you feel like you said something wrong…Just wanted you to know, I wasn’t reacting to YOU, per se- if that makes sense. Besides, you didn’t say anything I hadn’t already heard, lol…Peeps often react out of life experiences & their own worldviews. So what am I trying to say? Um..just, in life, I don’t think you should take it personally or feel totally responsible when peeps react in a way you don’t expect. ‘Cuz sometimes they’re reacting to something much bigger/deeper than you. Unless you say something horrible; then they probably ARE reacting to you. lol.

JackRyan, Everynight i watch my favorite episodes of Nandito Ako. don’t know what i would do with out it. It makes me feel like David hasn’t left and that he is still here. Besides i just love it. Best decision he could have made. Makes me happy.

I had the feeling I was approved already until he mentioned that “my husband is so understanding to allow me to travel a lot n my own” while reaching for a colored paper to give to me (at that time, I already had 3 passports stamped with all he places I’ve gone to – all work related).
So I was perplexed cos my paper showed I was a widow. So I thought I was being tested. So when I said, but am a widow sir… that’s when he withdrew the colored paper and said that line “you are too young…” then advised that I try applying next time.

Just a quick FYI based on a previous comment…the economy is in fact getting better, not worse. For example, the Dow Jones average was around 8200 four years ago, now it is over 13000. That’s one of the better indicators of how business is doing.

What a very nice post today. Didn’t know that David is a SCARFanatic. So many and all lookin’ good on him. My fave scarf he wore is the Black Shiny Scarf in Hard Rock Cafe and the Wait Scarf. He’s so gorgeously handsome wearing those scarves. I enjoyed all the Scarfchuleta pics. Thanks FOD for all the updates about David specially now that he is in his mission and waiting for his return in 2014.
BTW, good luck JR in getting your visa to US. Hope to see you there in David’s mega concert in 2014.
Had a super busy day so I guess I missed everyone. Poo! Well, I still want to thank Joanie for the SUPER DE DUPER post!! I love all of the pics of David wearing his wardrobe of scarves!!! He really rocks that look! I also have a ton of scarves ever since my sister and niece started gifting them to me years ago. I may even have as many as David!
David’s are stylish though, whereas mine are basically to keep my neck warm. LOL!
Also, thank you Joanie for posting the reminder about the Nor-Cal get together! So nice of you! Hoping to meet some new Archies who haven’t been able to make the other events!

jack ryan- Oops! I should have read further down the thread and I would have realized that you indicated that you don’t have a visa. What a terrible experience for you to have been denied a visa because you were a young widow! The immigration officials can be overly suspicious and heartless at times! I certainly hope that you don’t have any problems when you try again. You deserve to see David in his first post mission concert!! Also, I would love to meet you when you do come to the states so that I can thank you personally for all of the enjoyment that I have experienced because of your generosity in sharing photos, videos and info of David’s adventures in the Philippines.

Hi! I said goodnight, but couldn’t sleep. Was watching my favorite episodes of NA and i’m in intermission right now. Thought i would check comments to see if anyone was still up.
By the time i get on comments, i miss everyone too. Its so much earlier here in Cali.

I LOOOVVE NA, but I am trying not to watch too often because when they release the DVD ( I am sure it will happen, it MUST happen) I want to watch it like it was the first time. I am really good at forgetting details of movies, so I can watch them over and over again and enjoy them as though I never saw them at all! LOL!

Linda-I must admit, I do watch the scene in which David gets slapped. WOOOWIE!! The anger and attitude David has when he accuses Anya for falling for him was something else. The guy can really act!!!

For a newbie, he did extremely well. Of course TV5 made sure he was backed-up by some of the best in the industry. I love TV5 for that. The way they treated him… And they could not find a better & most hardworking student out there.

JackRyan, he was a great student. I am amazed at how well he did. I don’t know which scenes he did first but as he went on he got better and better, He was really serious about acting again. Hope he still does when he gets back.

Just read all the drama from last thread, in my opinion, to each his own, if your offended on missionaries blog that are posted then don’t read and look at it, as simple as that, if you feel it’s ok, then read it. I personally think it is harmless to read or look at the picture, anyway we are not disturbing David on his mission.

Indonesian are very supportive of David, he have a lot of fans over there, 2 hrs of David music for entire segment was a Wowza!
