Nor-Cal Meet Up!
This past weekend, a group of dedicated fans in Northern California had a special meet-up to celebrate all things David, especially BEGIN. ! This was no ordinary meet-up, there was a program and special gifts created for David. I have been told a write-up is coming to FOD with all the details, so I don’t want to spoil it by posting all the great pics until we have a story that brings it all together! Until then, drool over the creativeness of these fans in the fan gifts. I’m blown away by the creativity! And that includes all the fans who get together, wherever they may be, and find ways to celebrate and support one of their favourite artists!

This interview oscillated between incredibly strange and awkward (“and old, middle aged lady …. tries to kiss my face”) and incredibly funny (I NEED a “where’s a girl, where’s a girl GIF!). David was not well for this concert; so much was crammed into a short span of days. Still, David was gracious as usual.

Happy to see that Bench Nandito Ako tshirt still available online, because it’s no longer available in Bench stores in the Philippines, so if you like it, you have to be fast, it’s only limited stocks.
When I see David face, my stress gone away lol, because David is sunshine.
David improved a lot in dressing up, he is no longer the big clothing and big jeans lol, which he said he was hiding, because he is little lol, I like how he dress up now, tight fitting tshirt, well fitted jeans.
Jhen–non-David: how did the AI concert go in Manila? Was it only 1 night?
Just realized that old David clip was when he was 15….and the following year he would be auditioning for AI7….(with less baggy pants and a better-looking spiked hair….haha..)

Sarahhazel,to me it seems that hunkerdowns were more present before his vocal problem. Maybe I’m wrong, but it really seems like he was getting it back into songs in the last couple of years.
Those golden cords are getting somewhat of a rest, so I’m thinking that when he returns to singing in 2014, those golden vocol cords will be ready to completely WOW the world, lol.

Reading Maureen’s comment about David smiling during his Angels performance at age 14/15 ~ I noticed that right away too. I remember when one of the judges on Idol said how special it is for an artist to smile during a song…David is a master~sets him apart.

the gifs from SamLouise reminds me how he did all his best in Nandito Ako, he got frustrated in the beginning of shoot too, because it was his first time to do acting, he couldn’t do it right and kinda nervous, but you know , David never give up, as time past by, he getting better and better in his acting. I think he surprise himself how far he exceed his expectation. He put into action his inspirational words.

I always thought that David should have gone the R&B route because I definitely think that his Voice is so suited for that genre. I know that David can sing everything based on his range. But his Voice sounds sooooooooooo smooth in R&B with a little Jazz. It sets him apart vocally and his voice just flows. I just hope when David returns he will let that inter latin soul come through which I know he really can own. JMHO. Also I know David singing the song that D Duron sang on the Voice David would really kill that song. Maybe as he grows into himself. Wishing…………….lol

My wish when David gets back is that he connects with someone that can write/produce a song and give him his sound that will make David shine in the US. I know that David wrote with some awesome writers but he need to hook up with someone more mainstream that he is comfortable with that can produce a song that is current for today’s market and make Davids voice front and center on the song so that non fans will stand up and take notice. And hopefully with a lot of RadioPlay.
David always gives 100%…he is the perfectionist and I love that about him!

Just want to say based on my two other comments. I love all of David’s CD’s and have been a fan since Idol. I think he has a beautiful voice and it bothers me @ times that he does not get the recognition he so deserves. I would just like to hear him on the Top 40 radio. It annoys me that artists less talented get radio play because they have a catchy song with a good beat however no voice. Hoping David when he returns will be more open to having a hit song and not saying it doesnt matter because once you get that recognition you can write your own ticket. . JMHO.

Kimk, yes it is!. At least i hope he’s getting to rest his voice for a while. I know he sings there, but not as intense as he does in concerts. I don’t know how he doesn’t strain the one good vocal chord. He doesn’t have his throat Dr there to give him a check up. But i guess if ayone know about his vocal chords its him. I’m sure he knows how to rest them.

There are time in Bench Fix launch that he almost lost his pitched while singing, now I know it was because of what he did, recording over and over again.

Martha- Her signing is pretty good, its VERY difficult to interpret a song, one of the hardest things I had to do. In order for the average person to understand you sign in “signed english” which she is using and sign word for word. If I was signing it to my son-in-law, who is deaf, I would use American Sign language. (ASL) What makes it hard then is interpreting the meaning, as ASL doesnt use endings to words, ing, ed, are not part of the language. When my SIL sends me a text and says “I shop” its up to me to determine if he is shopping at the moment, already went, or will go. Makes for interesting conversations.

Also, you would never mouth the words, when signing its a definite no-no. Your lips/mouth dont move. The deaf rely on facial expression, body language, along with the sign. But I understand why she is doing it, so anyone non deaf can understand what she is signing. It’s a beautiful language.

I agree that David should record alot more R&B than he does. His voice is perfect for it! Although, he does such and incredible job with Pop also, and I love how he sometimes can add a soul vibe to a Pop song, or even a Praise song like “Shout To The Lord”!

I am hoping he comes back like he left, only a tad more mature. I really enjoy what appears to be the “real David” when he just randomly sings, no matter who is around or if someone is recording him. Since last Christmas I have been “working on” converting two ladies at work into David fans. Well, today I believe I finally won over them! YEA! I gifted them BEGIN. when it came out and they said they really liked it. I work at an agency that helps people. One of our functions is coming up next week by hosting National Night Out. It will be for families and the elderly. The DJ has canceled on us, so management is asking us to bring music so they can play it that night.
One of the ladies I gave BEGIN to immediately said “Why don’t you bring that kid! He is really good!” Of course I immediately said, “Well, I would love to, let me ask my manager if I could fly to Chile to get him!” (Wishing all the while I could actually do that). Of course I didn’t hesitate to volunteer my CD collection (all consisting of David’s CD’s of course!)
So, I am asking should I only bring BEGIN, as that is the one CD I do want the 400-500 people to hear, or his first and second album as well? Maybe we will have more David fans after Tuesday night!

Atx-Bring a variety, its the spic of life you know. That way if a song doesnt appeal to some, you can offer another.
ATX–bring them all….but if others are bringing music too, try alternating the albums with others if possible….or you can just choose the songs from each album…..that way, it won’t sound like a David “concert”…..haha…..just my suggestions…..

i have a big stack of Christmas CDs and david’s is definitely the best which is saying alot since my collection includes~ josh groban, andrea bocelli, tony bennett, barbra striesand, celine dion, diana krall, etc. i just listened to it today. it’s a true masterpiece and probably the most underrated CD of all time!
Well i’m off tomorrow. Time to pull out all my Christmas cds. I’m getting excited for Christmas now that we have been talking about Christmas music. Guess who i’m playing first. YEP!!!! thats it.

It”s so cool that you guys have these fan lunches! I love that t-shirt that was gifted, I wish I could get one! So nice to honor David that way, I’d love to go to one but I live too far away, but I enjoy looking at the pics. I so look forward to coming to FOD everyday to see what you guys post next, and to read the comments, so wonderful to keep the David love going, I hope we can keep this up until he gets back! Hi Lucy, i know what you mean i haven’t been to a get together either, but not because i was too far but because other things got in my way. I am trying to make arrangements to go to “The Sounds of David” in April of 2013. My Daughter agreed to go with me, even though shes not really a David fan, but who know, maybe i can make her one. April is a long ways off Hope things work out for us. But if there was a SoCal gathering before then i would go. I can’t miss again.

Hello Everyone! I read the comments on the MKOP video posted & one girl said the way David talks about girls, it makes her realize that someone can love her for who she is, flaws and all. I thought that was very sweet. I hope some guys can learn how to treat girls by Davids example too.
I remember one story, when David was on AI, that this kid wasnt too nice to his family, that the family rarely ate together, things were very strained. Then when AI started they happened to have it on they all watched it, this kid saw how David was, that someone could be kind & decent & succeed, so he started to be nicer to his family & friends, the family started eating together, watching AI together & the kid turned himself around. Talk about making a difference. Wish I knew how they all are doing now

Hey Linda! David isnt shy when he’s performing, but he is before & after. When he would be getting his scores, he would be very shy & when they showed him talking in film clips, he seemed shy then too. Some people who know David say he’s not so shy with them. I think he just needs to know someone, then he isnt so shy. I’m the same way.

My only celebrity crush was Joe Lando, who played Sully on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Oh. My. Gosh. His eyes. lol. He was just….a manly guy. Then he cut off his long hair after the show, and I was so so furious with him. lol. Somehow I just don’t think he cared.
Awwwww…Star Search. That’s when I saw David first. I purposely stayed up late just to watch him sing, & made my family watch him, too. lol. I was totally in awe of his talent, & somehow felt like I could identify with him. I think he stole my heart during “Fallin’”. I was like, “There’s no way a child should be able to sing like that.” lol. Just the sweetest, shyest kid.

I sort of understand why a lot of singers have catchy songs that are fun to dance to, are popular, they don’t need to really sing well, just need to know how to move and have a catchy tune. Everyone likes to move to fun songs. David is in a class all his own because he can sing and dance. I just hope that when he gets back to his career, he will lossen up and show us some of those moves that are in him and are dying to get out, lol. He is the total package!

A Fan – another vote for R&B David!
I loved that vid of david wben he was 11 on the Jenny Jones show. Don’t think i’ve seen it before. Just a kid there but still could see those beautiful coloured eyes and that mega watt smile. There was something really sweet about listening to him answering her questions and answering them like a kid would. It almost feels like I saw a bit of a ‘home video’ from his childhood. So intriguing!
