The Common Thread

~ A letter from Pecan Pie

Hi Crush Kids’ Cancer team,

I wanted to take a pause to be a little serious and let you know how much each and every one of you is recognized and what this team truly means. Many of you have sent messages to let me and/or David know how a diagnosis of cancer is so very personal to you.  I want the members of the team to know that your voice is heard, your feelings are known, and each and every team member counts in this fight.  I do know what it’s like to be given a cancer diagnosis only to learn that there are some in whom you might have entrusted your life who are surprisingly indifferent to your potential mortality. I do know what it’s like to be a child and watch a loved one go through the horror of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.  I haven’t seen patients directly in over five years, but never will I forget the look in a parent’s eyes when I would lay my stethoscope on the silent chest of his/her child who had just passed, and confirm their worst nightmare. The most hideous sound on Earth is the sound of a mother wailing in anguish upon receiving the news that her child has just passed away or that there are no treatment options left. I don’t know how else to describe it except to say, it eviscerates your soul.

Why am I sharing this with all of you some 4 years after starting the team? Because most of you have experienced any number of the cancer stories I’ve described above and it’s part of what unites us all both as a team and as fellow human beings. We get so caught up in the excitement of winning the challenge that sometimes the ugly stories behind the fight get forgotten.  That’s so easy to let happen right now while David isn’t here to cheer us on.

Way more important than my understanding, however, is that David understands what it is that you have all endured (or are still battling currently).  I realized this early on in the first fundraising challenge 4 years ago. No one in the fanbase knew who I was back then; most of you thought I was just some Archie-smitten teen rather than a middle-aged pediatric oncologist.  So, how then, do we explain, a group of 550 strangers banding together within a 2 -week time frame and raising over $30,000 (about half of which was raised in the final 12 hours)?

David, of course, is the only possible explanation – the only common thread.  What always amazed me was that while I and other adults may understand and relate to the impact of a cancer diagnosis because we have had the benefit of maturity and of direct personal experience, David understood even as a mere teenager, without ever having endured most of these experiences personally.  Moreover, we all somehow knew, that David would “get it”, i.e.,  that he would have a level of compassion and understanding that sometimes even our closest friends might not be able to muster. We, on this team and in this fanbase, all saw something that the other viewers had missed entirely.  We saw that beneath that goofy, dorky teen exterior and that ever-present smile, beat the heart of a human being with a compassion so profound, that it radiated right through the television screen and permeated deep into our own hearts.  We didn’t even have to share our own individual cancer battle stories with him to feel that we were heard and understood.  What’s more, we all knew, that the only way to thank him was not to give to him directly, but rather to uphold a principle that I suspect is dear to David, but that is common to all our faiths and to all humanity. Simply put, that principle is that if we witness or become aware of the potential for suffering in another, it is our obligation to do whatever we can to alleviate that suffering.  This SU2C team became the first of many opportunities to fulfill that shared obligation.

So, for those of you who have been hit hard by the economy, please don’t donate financially to this team and instead consider donating blood, registering for the bone marrow registry, or just remember to do your regular cancer screening.  If, however, you think you can comfortably afford to donate even a little to the team and you support the strategy of SU2C as much as I do, then I hope you will do what you can to bring us one step closer to finding successful, tolerable treatments and preventing the suffering that cancer forces so many to endure.  The more we raise, the greater the reminder to the world that David is not just a great singer, but a great man to have inspired such a team.  Given that we raised over $30,000 with a team half the size and raised about $15,000 in the final 12 hours, I know we can still pull this off.

~ Pecan Pie

Less than 48 hours to Crush Kids’ Cancer!

The race is on!  Feels like we are just BEGIN.ning to hit our stride.  Let this pic of David inspire you!

Credit: ArchuletaAvenue

We are currently in 4th place.  THAT. WILL. NOT. DO!!!!!

Yes, 4th.  Hey, we usually OWN #2 and with Crush Kids’ Cancer and many other charities, we are No. 1!!!  Two consecutive times in a row baby, we have come from behind and won this thing!  After all, you are Go Getters, generous to a fault, and understand the meaning behind this cause!

And this is not a North American effort!  Calling on all international fans to donate!  Here is a beautiful message on the fansite from a fan in Paraguay

Need another reason?  Cancer doesn’t care.  One in 2 males, and one in 3 females will get cancer in their lifetime.  That’s 50% of my family :( (   And we are here to help donate to stem the hurt to children….

So don’t delay any longer.  David is not here, but his spirit is, and so is the generosity of his fans.  I’ll forgive you if you go directly to the SU2C site and do not read another word of my post.  $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or more..  Its up to you and your comfort level.  No amount is too small.  Because all of your hearts are so big!

Thank you, all of you, in advance <3333333  (I’d add more hearts if I could, but it might affect the site).

DONATE HERE!    In advance of the August 29, 2012 at 11:59:59pm EST deadline!

* * * * *

IF YOU ARE AN INTERNATIONAL FAN AND ARE UNABLE TO DONATE BY CREDIT CARD, you can donate as follows:

Send your donation to the following Paypal email:  mlsinclair@sympatico.ca with the following Subject Line:  Donation for Crush Kids Cancer.  We will deposit it directly to the SU2C team.  Please do so before 9 pm EST Wednesday, August 29th to allow time for us to process.

You will be eligible for the same raffle items as those who donate by credit card, but please only use this method of donation if cannot donate directly by credit card to the site.  No need to send any additional emails to the Crush Kids’ Cancer site if you donate by Paypal.  Thank you and good luck!

Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

from PecanPie

There are very few times when I am ever interested in collecting things with people’s autographs.  One major exception is the time I asked David to autograph a T-shirt that I had printed with the Crush Kids’ Cancer team logo (created by Nancy ER).  I had brought it with me on a whim to his last U.S. concert in Beaver Creek.  My flight had taken off before I even knew he would be going on a mission and that this would be his last concert for 2 years.  This was the only time I ever had the nerve to go to the tour bus to request an autograph, so this autographed T-shirt is the only one in existence (I’ve printed the T-shirt without autograph for people before). Once I received the autograph, I didn’t want to part with the shirt because it has such sentimental value.  However, I’ve decided that what would mean even more to me is to see this team raise funding for SU2C and awareness for pediatric cancer, so I am offering this one-and-only T-shirt in a raffle.  Please note, that we will likely retire this logo before the next challenge in order create a simplified monochromatic logo that can be printed more easily.

Anyone who donates a total of $150 or more to the Crush Kids’ Cancer SU2C team between August 16th-29th will be eligible to enter the raffle to win.  If you wish to enter the raffle after donating, send me an e-mail at  su2carchie@gmail.com.  The T-shirt is pre-shrunk cotton, size XL,  The photo is shown and there is a video from cadthu that shows David signing the shirt at about 3:20.

Thanks all!

 Pecan Pie

  8. kimk says:

lurking ha David has soul.. think it was more he sang the covers in a very professional manner. he certainly didn’t let loose.
now Broken.. that one he let loose.

  9. angelbymyside says:

    Morning :)

Thanks Pastel for a great post!

Haven’t checked out my Walmart since August 7. I need to get back there and see if I can find any little green cd’s on the shelves.

  10. angelbymyside says:

That “lack of soul” comment was used in another review….is that a recycled review another syndicate newspaper is using?

  11. nora says:

Lurking-agree Lack of soul, they can’t be talking about David? They don’t know what soul is if they did, they couldn’t say that about him, they just don’t know soul when they hear it.

Everybody keep voting on Wise-Radio Challenge, Looks like one of the challengers has woken up he has over 1,200 votes, can’t let David get behind, we have until8-31 to vote.

  12. Jhen says:

    Hello everyone!
Wow! that picture above is a magical David, so nice.
Whatever David expression on his face, he always look good and charming.
I don’t know how come they could said lack of soul, what is their basis? David songs in Begin is full of soul. And it touches our soul.

  13. kimk says:

this is the Soul Man of Utah!!

    http://youtu.be/K6fKno0FVkY

dang if he ever did this again.. dies!!!

  14. Jhen says:

I really feel that we, David fans are so bless, because it is too obvious that David gave the P.O. Box because he want to hear from us, to connect with us even he is on mission.

  15. lurking says:

I hear a lot of soul, especially in Beautiful.

  16. lurking says:

    I agree, Jhen.

  17. sarahhazel says:

Happy 153rd day!!! Fabulous, post, Pastel!!!
That art-ified Bench pic is so beautiful!
Gonna donate again to Crush Kids…can’t send in much this time….but hopes it help.
Excited to see how BEGIN. will fare in the Philippines since they play him on the radio and put out many CDs on stores for peeps to see!

  18. kimk says:

lurking it is there but refined.. he matched the arrangements Kurt Bestor set for the cd perfectly.

  19. sarahhazel says:

lurking–yup, I wonder if reviewers like that even know what “soul” means LOL….we’re talking about the Soul Man From Utah here!

  20. kimk says:

if David did go very soulful or all out it wouldn’t of matched the arrangements which were quite beautiful. like his voice.

  22. sarahhazel says:

Jhen–I agree, he’s always love connecting with fans and thru Kari and the PO, it’s obvious he still wants to…..and he did say he’s still gonna do music when he comes back….so it would make sense to make that connection the best way he could under the current situation.

  23. lurking says:

I really don’t think they do, Sarahhazel.

  24. sarahhazel says:

kimk–OMJ….imagine him singing Falling (by A. keys) in an all-out soulful style and with that richer, mature tenor voice of his??? ****flatline for sure****

  25. kimk says:

sarahhazel I am going to guess he meant the cd not David? it is very refined in its arrangements.. what Kurt Bestor does best.
I think Broken was a little different in the way David approached his vocals not so perfect.
but yes if and when David lets loose he is quite the Soul Man of Utah.. and other places for that matter.

  26. sarahhazel says:

I’m guessing the Japanese fans are spazzing now with BEGIN.!

  27. kimk says:

sarahhazel ha Be Still My Heart!!! I love Jazz/Blues.. anything like that and I would flip out! also hoping when and if he sings Beautiful live he goes all out with a ton of growls and hunkerdowns!! GAH TO THE MAX!!
ha.. I say go Christina David GO!!!

  28. sarahhazel says:

kimk–they shouldn’t expect him to belt out those BEGIN. songs because they are of different arrangements….I still think he sang them in the most “soulful” way possible, the best he thought his emotions could convey them.

  29. kimk says:

by the way the same thing with Pride.. I know he can do rock star very well indeed!! :)

the arrangements are gorgeous and David’s voice.. all of it matched them perfectly.
    why he really is amazing.
lol what is next.. rap? disco dancing!!!?

    Morning FOD!!
Thanks for the wonderful post, Pastel!!
From previous post: David looks so cute in the missionary picture Janel posted. Thanks Janel!! Miss him much. Hope he adjusts well to a new location he moved to.

Went to Walmart to pick up BEGIN CDs I ordered online and saw two CDs displayed in the last name, ‘A’ section. I guess they brought two CDs this time. Last time, there was only one which was purchased by me. lol. So I put one on the HOT MUSIC shelf and the other one is in front of other CDs on the ‘A’ shelf. lol. I am going to check them out whenever I go to Walmart.

blue, 50 CDs are amazing!! They will bring in more when they run out.

  91. sarahhazel says:

LOL…don’t care what book he sings…I’ll take anything!

  92. Afternoon Everyone :)

Pastel, thanks for that poignant saying by John Wooden…all the FOD mods manage to inspire us with quotes pregnant with such meaningful sentiment :)
That peacelovetumblr pic reminds me of Star Trek…David aka Capt Kirk hahaha
The pinoys really know how to throw a Begin. Partay WOOOHOOOO!!!! I really, really, really want that Begin. tumbler LOL
These HALF BAKED REVIEWS on Begin. remind me of the slightly clueless student who decides to cheat off the paper of an equally clueless student. Anyone who listens to Begin. and the #s are growing, knows that “David and Soul” are a synonymous pair…WHAT POOR MISGUIDED AND CLUELESS BLOGERS!!!!!!!!!

  93. sarahhazel says:

idamae–Yes, David & Soul are a synonymous pair…..I remember him and Syesha were praised by one of the AI judges (don’t remember who lol) during their season as the 2 contestants who truly have soul in their singing.

  94. Blue, I alternate and vote for all three om chart. They all deserve votes. Make me feel bad when the take one off.

  96. Grace, I went to B&N to check on how many copies of Begin. were on hand and saw 1 on the backside of the new releases rack…soooooo I went to the salesman at the desk and asked how Begin. was doing and when the Begin. stock would come in. He said that they had 2 in stock and 1 was sold and he looked at me and said, It’s not expected to sell, the kid left for 2 yrs, gone and forgotten….what do you expect.” My blood was boiling!!!!!! I told him that all the major stores online and off had Begin as a top release CD and that his fans are promoting him like crazy…twitter, fb, fan sites. I told him that I bought a few at another B&N and they were ordering more. This guy didn’t even know the title of David’s CD GRRRRRR!!!!

  97. By the way, I didn’t go to work my electric breaker went out at home no AC. It’s ok though. No internet, I’m on cell. It’s hot, but there are worst things in life then my electric bieng out. It can

  98. Be fixed, a lot of other things in life can’t. Sorry I posted before I finished

  99. sarahhazel says:

idamae–well, how unprofessional of that CS guy to say that!….so disappointing that most stores don’t even give his album a chance or research the online sales/rankings & stuff like that. GRRRRR! is right!

  100. Grannycrush says:

Thanks for the wonderful post, Pastel. I love coming here every day.

Kathy …My dad was my math teacher my freshman year, too, besides being the principal. My mom was the secretary. I saw that you asked if anyone was from Springfield, IL. I have a college friend who lives there. I just was there for a reunion with 5 college friends a couple weeks ago. My friend lives on Lake Springfield. We ate at a bunch of good restaurants. I was born and raised in Illinois and went to Bradley U. for college.

  101. AWWWW Linda…stay safe…hope things get back to normal for you soon. Try to stay rehidrated.:)

  102. sarahhazel says:

Linda–oh, no….hope it gets fixed soon.

  103. A Fan says:

I read an article in the New Yorker about Scott Braun JB’s Mgr/Promoter and he wrote that watching JB on Ytube he was amazed at his soulful singing and wanted to promote him? No disrespect but am I missing something? I know that they make him sound good on his CDs thanks to technology but soulful.? I listen to him sing with JS live on NO AIR and I thought did they really pay for a ticket to hear that. And yet David who I think makes you feel a song gets reviews that he is not soulful enough. The people who review do they actually listen to each track? I realize that David is not everyone’s cup of tea but they should give credit where it is do. It just ticks me off. Sorry for the rant.

  104. Elysian says:

A Fan- Rant away! I agree with everything that you just said!

  109. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd says:

Hello Everyone! Stopping by for a couple of minutes. A week ago last Friday, my parents & I went to Perkins & our waiters name was David & as he introduced himself to us, Stand By Me was playing(not Davids version, but…), lol. When I went to B & N the day D’s cd was released, there was 1 copy on the new release stand they had, so I bought it. I went last Friday to see if B & N had anymore copies & they had one, so I bought it. I’ll try & go back later this week to see if they got anymore

  110. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd says:

David Archuleta has more soul in his little toe, than Imelda Marcos’s shoe collection

  111. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd says:

Well, that was quick, gotta go already. Have a great day all, TTYL

  112. sarahhazel says:

A Fan–can’t blame you for ranting….David’s talent and music are so underrated….It boggles my mind when I read good reviews of that superstar’s album….and they are actually raving about it….sometimes I think these peeps are getting paid to write these over the top reviews!

  113. sarahhazel says:

Same with the radio stations too!

  114. kimk says:

    read that piece.

all I know is I would love some of Scooter’s help to promote David.. cause he worked miracle’s with the beav.

  115. kimk says:

reason David is not famous cause he doesn’t do what they want him to do.. he does what he wishes with his music.
pretty sure we’ll never see him frolic on the beach with Kim Kardashian or wear harem pants.

ohh wait.. ha we haven’t seen Rainbow yet.

  116. lurking says:

    LOL kimk

  117. Martha says:

    kimk — lol

  118. sarahhazel says:

kimk–you’re right….Scooter won’t probably work with somebody who wouldn’t “go with the flow”….meaning, one who would not sacrifice their beliefs and values to attain super fame.

  119. lurking says:

How did Adele get so successful? other than her great voice? David introduced me to her when he mentioned loving her music and having gone to her concert…that must have been more than two years ago. And Owl City? why did radio start playing his song? He wasnt well known before. Sigh.. don’t get it.

  120. A Fan says:

Kimk…I believe he called it a music”Brand”. I have to give him credit because he made something out of nothing and is a gazillonaire. Promote/Promote/Promote is his motto…lol. Eventually after seeing him all over people will be hypnotized into mediocrocy. lol… Just the way I see it.

  121. lurking says:

I just once would love to hear someone admit the emperor is naked. #tru fax

  122. A Fan says:

Always remember Money Talks and B……………..walks in this life. That is why all these singers try and hook up with him…Please understand I am not trying to bash him I wish him well on his path but someday the music world will see that his talent is very limited when it comes to singing. Regarding Adele it took her awhile to get noticed and I do believe that will happen for David once he finds his niche and lets his true voice be heard without holding back. JMHO

  123. A Fan says:

@during my rant I meant to write Scooter not Scott…lol

  124. Grace says:

Idamae, how rude of the salesman was!!! At least, he knows David is on a mission? Ha! When I talked to store employees at Walmart, they were not so positive about bringing more CDs to the store because they just receive whatever top people at their headquarter send out to local stores. That’s why I ordered online and when I went back, they had two displayed this time. Yes, if no CDs left in stores, they would get more in stock.
Beth, way to go! Keep buying one, then they will have two next time. lol.

  129. I’m back, have internet, new electric breaker and less money in my check book. But hey, its still not a tragedy like they are having in louisiana, Mine is just an inconvinience.

  130. Kathy, don’t feel bad, i’m the only David Archuleta nut in my small town.

  131. Lurker, you got that right. Davids time will come. He is 21 yrs old. Has lived quite a life for someone his age, and has a lot of time to find that niche. The ones that don’t have time is us older fans, who want him to hurry and find it soon. HA! HA!

  132. kimk says:

Adele has the backing of an amazing label and musicians to help her out. read they only take on one artist per year I think? 21 is so amazing.. if David can write, record and produce like her latest he will be quite popular. only thing I can think of is that
her songs are pretty deep and mature.
not sure where David will go after his mission so who knows.

  133. kimk says:

Kathy me and Marylee seem to be pretty exclusive David fans here in Raleigh.
    you are not alone.

  134. tami lyn says:

and that is the dilemna. david is an extraodinary singer but an average songwriter. of course to us everything he writes is amazing but the public doesn’t seem to agree. will never understand why. whereas taylor swift is just an average singer but an extraordinary songwriter. that’s why i hope some really talented songwriter like ryan tedder or katy perry will write a hit song for david otherwise he won’t get on the radio which seems tragic because he definitely deserves to be heard. but i suppose he has to be signed to a major label before anyone will write a song for him. why does the music business have to be so darn complicated?! david must just hate the business side of it. seems like the really amazing singers never make it onto the radio. anyone who needs to be auto-tuned does not belong on the radio in my opinion.

tami, maybe his writing skills will improve while he is in Chile. I think they are aloud to write, hoping that he can write other thoughts than only religion stuff. Maybe someone in the know, might give us a heads up.

  138. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd says:

    Hello Everyone!

Hey tami_lyn, sorry, I have to disagree with you about the David is an average songwriter. I think he is fantastic. His song Falling, he wrote words & music, incredible, has actually saved peoples lives with that song, Broken, yes, he wrote just the music on this one, but it goes perfectly with the words, its an incredible song & the way he sings it, brilliant. He has great talent as a writer, he just needs to open up a bit & that will come. Look at how much he’s changed over the last 4 years, even the last 8 months. He wrote the music for Dont Tell Me when he was like 12 or 14, plus the other songs he’s written. I believe its there & he will knock us for a loop when he comes back  This is just my opinion, not trying to say you’re wrong, just that I have a different view. Gosh, gotta go already, will catch response, if any, lol, a little later  Adios!

  139. tami lyn says:

    cq- hope so! :)

  140. tami lyn says:

beth – I AGREE WITH U LOL! i think everything david writes is incredible and amazing and wonderful, etc. etc. but for some stupid reason OTHER PEOPLE do not share our feelings or if they do we don’t get to hear about it. i think ALL OF DAVID’S SONGS SHOULD BE ON THE RADIO! :)

  141. kimk says:

Linda just checked on my phone.. woo hoo over 80,000 views now!!! :)

a nice label can help him along in all that is needed.
just has to find the right one.

  142. sarahhazel says:

tami lyn–I think David is a pretty good songwriter….but his songs are not appreciated by the so-called mainstream listeners of late….because it’s not current?…..or too deep?….too clean?….who knows….while TS & her music are marketed really good, though I think the songs she writes are almost the same subject & they are sounding the same already, but that’s what’s popular right now esp. for the younger set. JMO

  143. kimk says:

as for song writing.. I think going forward deep life experiences will help hom with his song writing.
ha Adele some guy broke her heart bad.. not sure how I feel about that happening to David.

  144. tami lyn says:

romney should have picked a women as a running mate! we are 50% of the population!!! so sick of men being in charge of everything.

  145. kimk says:

oops him not hom.. phone has little tiny letters!!!

  146. tami lyn says:

hi kim and sarah! :) yeah don’t know what the problem is. like i said before, i would think labels would be fighting over him. just don’t get it. well if there is any sense or justice in this world maybe they will when he gets back! :)

  147. sarahhazel says:

    tami lyn–maybe because it didn’t work last time?….but what do I know….LOL

  148. A Fan says:

If David wants to be on the radio and that is his decison. He must produce/write a song either himself or by someone very revelant in the music business when he returns and hopefully with a label backing to get that one song he needs to push him to the Top 40 crowd if that is the way he wants to go. If he does that I am sure there would be many amazing music industry people clamoring to produce/write songs for him to propel him in this business because they all know how talented he is vocally and he does have that IT factor going for him. If not then he will remain status quo and it will take him a lot longer in the business. The buying market is what makes a artist relevant in this business and he needs a hit single like “Crush” but on a more mature level based on his age coming back. Let’s face it there are a lot of shows today looking for talent and there is a lot out there begging to be recognized. The ball is in his court when he returns. I am in it for the long hall because I so enjoy hearing him sing and will buy whatever he puts out there. JMHO and thank for letting me express it.

  149. kimk says:

tamilyn lol I like Paul Ryan. he does P90x every day.

  150. sarahhazel says:

A Fan–”The ball is in his court when he returns.”—I second that! :)
We’ll just have wait and see what he decides to do 19 months or so from now.

  153. kimk says:

    A fan agree

  154. A Fan says:

I know there is a hit song waiting to be sung by David when he returns……I have been following him since AI7 and he really can sing anything which is very rare in the music industry today. Not many artist have that power.

  155. tami lyn says:

    A fan- well said! :)

  156. tami lyn says:

kim- he does? lol! don’t really know anything about him. guess i will have to watch the convention!

  157. nora says:

Hi everybody, if you have a few minutes try and throw a few votes on Wise-Radio Challenge, one of the challengers is getting up there we want to keep David on top. Have to leave for a while to cook dinner. BBL Thanks

  158. tami lyn says:

ok let’s say when david gets back he does not get signed to a major label. can he still tour then if he wants if he finds someone to pay for it?

  159. sarahhazel says:

A Fan–that’s true….TBH, I wouldn’t really want him to stick to one genre….he’s too versatile….like a “jack of all trades, master of all” kind of singer/songwriter/performer!

  160. A Fan says:

I also think that David has some “Street” cred in him that I would like to see him explore when he returns. I seen it in his younger years he needs to embrace it without taking anything away from who he is as a person. That is what the music industry and the people buying music wants. He can have it all if it is tastefully executed. We all know that he can Rap…..lol

  161. LurkyTurkey says:

I just couldn’t resist jumping into the song writing discussion. What I think David lacks is a maturity that comes from life experiences. He may be 21 but he is more like 16 in today’s culture. Not judging that, just stating what I see. He has not had the life experiences that today’s 21 year old has had from what I see. Not a bad thing to live a sheltered life but if you look at artists like Adele or Taylor, they are around his age but have lived more. I am thinking that this mission time and the difficulties and triumphs he experiences will mature him a lot and he will come back and we will see a difference in his writing. Hope I am making a bit of sense here.

  162. A Fan says:

LurkyTurkey… I agree with the Life experiences. But I also think that he holds back alot because he is very shy.

  163. Lurky Turky, you are making sense.
Kimk, Woo! Hoo! 80,000, we have a week to get it to 100,000

  164. kimk says:

true that about life experiences should help his song writing.
Adele and Taylor are more what folks their age are out there today.
at least for mainstream folks anyway.

  165. josie says:

I don’t think he’s interested in having a radio hit, or in going Top 40, though. Or in having street cred, lol. So yeah…this’ll be interesting. :( Also, didn’t he say that other labels were interested in him, and he’s the one who turned them down?

  166. kimk says:

it says 79+ but on the main page it says 80+!! :)

    http://youtu.be/-UrNy_YtMUo

  167. tami lyn says:

josie- really? how did i miss that? wonder what labels they were??

  168. kimk says:

josie what.. just you wait til Rainbow pops up you’ll see!
(ha probs what we’ll see is the cutest thing ever to bop around on the screen)

  169. kimk says:

josie and tamilyn my guess it could be David turning folks down cause it didn’t fit into his ‘style’ or who he was?

  170. tami lyn says:

also, doesn’t he still have a connection to sony?

  171. tami lyn says:

kim- yeah probably. but he’s a smart guy didn’t he know the labels were going to do that?

  172. A Fan says:

Josie@4:02…lol that is my wish for him. I’M SURE NOT HIS WISH….lol I just miss not seeing him all over the place based off his talent.

  173. tami lyn says:

i would be interested in knowing what the label wanted him to do that he was so opposed to? not like they were gonna make him swear in songs or something like that. and he likes pop music so really wonder what the problem was.

  174. josie says:

tami lyn~ In his vlog after he left JIVE, I thought he said he turned down other labels. I could be wrong about that, though. It could’ve just been something I read on sites, & not from him. But if it’s true, it was probably because he already knew he’d be going on a mission. Sorry, I’m actually at work, so…I need to go. lol.

  175. tami lyn says:

does the mormon church have their own label? did they produce/distribute Glad tidings? would they let david record pop songs or only hymns?

  176. tami lyn says:

thanks josie- i do remember him saying something about turning down other offers but of course he did not elaborate :( if i could change one thing about david it would be that-he is so secretive. unless he was told not to talk about it.

  177. LurkyTurkey says:

tami lyn, I’ve also wondered about what the problems were. Now I wonder if maybe, perhaps, since we know he has wanted this mission for so long, that he truly felt he just didn’t “fit” for now. Maybe he set impossible standards subconsciously hoping it would lead to a way out with management and a label just so he could go on this mission. If he had played along and become more popular, I doubt he could have arranged to leave for a long time to come. Anyway, it’s obvious he needed to take this detour in his career.

  178. LurkyTurkey says:

The label who released BEGIN is an LDS label.

    tami_lyn

I believe after David left Jive, David met with several labels, 5 or 6, had offers from all, but I think he was trying to decide if he wanted to go on a mission first & not wanting to regret anything, he decided to go on a mission. I wouldnt be surprised if he already has something lined up, verbally, and will sign with someone soon, after he returns. OK, gotta go, see ya a little later

  184. tami lyn says:

beth- that sounds good! hope u are right!!! :)

  185. cq#DA2014 says:

In regards to turning labels down…..I really think that he just wanted to go on a mission and that didn’t fit into a new label’s plan..that might be why it didn’t work out.
Because he said he will be back to singing when he returns, I’m thinking he might have something in the works already, or maybe it’s just me wishfull thinking.

  186. Ali says:

While I love a well-written song, I don’t know that’s it song writing ability holding David back from the top of the charts. I mean, come on. Look at the song that Taylor Swift just came out with.
“We are never ever ever getting back together
We are never ever ever getting back together
You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me
But we are never ever ever ever getting back together, like, ever…”

Yeah. Broke all kinds of sales records. Clearly the American buying public is not looking for Shakespeare. Its all a matter of placement and marketing and how catchy is the hook. There are some rare exceptions in the music scene but most of the big hits are the dumbed down ones. LMFAO can attest to that. I like them, their songs are fun. But do they contribute anything lasting to music as an art? Will people be singing their songs 20 years from now? Hm.

And, as a fan, is it more important to you that David make it huge and be “recognized” by the industry or that he stay true to himself and make music that has meaning to him? I don’t know the answer. It’s probably somewhere in the middle.

  187. Candy says:

Tami-Lyn-I agree with you…I too feel his writing skills are average at best. TOSOD is my least fav of all the cds he has done…other then Fallings Stars, which he didnt write, I really couldnt connect with it.
All that he has done or not done in the past is just that…past. He will have to make some changes if he is to have a career, fans can only do so much to support him, he needs to find his niche and promote the heck of out of it!

  188. Smooch says:

I think David isn’t being fought over by labels because he isn’t a womanizer. All these stupid teenage girls want is someone like Justin Bieber wearing baggy butt crack pants and backwards ghetto caps. Singing about life like they’ve actually lived what they are talking about. I’m pretty sure Justin Bieber isn’t a rapper. He is a wanna be gangster. Dumb dumb dumb. David actually writes about real life, and these hormonally driven teenagers don’t want to hear about someone singing about finding yourself and life experiences. They wanna hear about what the guy is gonna do to them. In their dreams, that is.

  189. Candy says:

What got me…was why he signed with WEG when he did, bad timing, bad fit and Lordy wont go into MEL! That whole thing left me scratching my head. If he knew he was going on a mission when writing TOSOD, which he said he did, then why sign with them…

  190. kimk says:

Smooch lol love your name and pretty much so about the kids going with their hormones and not their brains.

  191. kimk says:

Candy got me.. must of been some reason.

  192. tami lyn says:

ali- u are so right!! lol taylor’s new song is so simple it’s almost absurd but of course it will be a hit and sell well. but why????? must be teens buying most of the music or something cuz it sure doesn’t make sense.

  193. Candy says:

Hi Smooch- LOL-next time be sure to tell us how you really feel…But youre right about what teens dont want to hear, or see for that matter. Its not a squeak clean guy with a great voice…

  194. kimk says:

Ali the song sold well cause it is catchy and fun.
way it is and what sells.

  195. tami lyn says:

    hi candy! yeah true.

  196. tami lyn says:

  198. Josie, it could be he turned them down because he was planning on going on this mission, back then and they were not going to wait for him to come back.

  199. Ali says:

kimk – yup catchy and fun and as i said, that’s what’s in now. and i don’t have a problem with catchy and fun. i enjoy upbeat, fun, silly songs. i like when david does fun stuff too. but if all we ever eat is dessert, i think we miss something important in our diet. if you know what i mean. but that’s just me talking about me :)

  200. Candy says:

Gessh, I finally have time to sit down and enjoy Pastels great post and comment and the oven buzzer goes off! BBL

  201. A Fan says:

Once you have some fame you can then dictate how you want your career to go. David almost got there but stopped for whatever reason. Take LG for instance she has a beautiful voice but no one even noticed her until she became outrageous. Not saying that David should do that but if he wants a career then he must bend a little. In order for music to be heard it must sell and sell well. We all know that David can sing anything but when he returns he needs a hit song. JMHO

  202. Martha says:

    Eileen ‏@Archugeezer
Google on the alert. I wonder if Colorado judge David Archuleta knows us as well as we know him?

  203. cq#DA2014 says:

We all love David and we know what a phenomenal talent he is, I also believe that a lot of big people in the industry know that too. Imo, in order for David to be a success, he needs to prove to this power people that he is marketable beyond his devoted fanbase, he needs to bring to them a unique fresh point of view through his music.
Love this discussion, but it’s torture because we won’t be able to find any of this out for such a long time, lol.

  204. Ali says:

i think the fact that it sounded so different from what is popular now is partially why adele’s last album sold so well. not only is it a great album, but i think people were at a point where they wanted something a little deeper. it was so different from anything that was being played on the radio then and it actually has given me hope that we might here something more than dance beats come back into being played. as i mentioned, i love fun songs but i also like deeper stuff too. i hope that the music industry is moving toward more of a balance.

  205. kimk says:

Ali David is due for a catchy and fun song. I like Taylor’s song. she seems to have had fun with it.
but yes I agree all dessert just makes you fat.

  206. Ali says:

cq – you mean you don’t want to spend the next 19 months figuring out david’s career path for him in detail??? ;) hahaha

  207. Ali says:

kimk – oh man, we’re gonna have to part ways on taylor’s new song. it sets my teeth on edge lol but i know lots of people like it. i can tell from the sales numbers ;p i do happen to love the cher lloyd song that’s out now and its completely ridiculous too. heh.

  208. tami lyn says:

ali & cq~ yeah what are we gonna talk about until 2014?! how are we gonna keep this site going?

  209. tami lyn says:

kim- yeah maybe taylor’s genius is that she knows her audience and gives them exactly what they want- simple love/ breakup songs lol

  210. tami lyn says:

makes me think, can u imagine if david, like taylor, would have dated and broke up with alot of famous girls and then wrote about it?? public & media would have paid attention to him then. how ridiculous

  211. ksf says:

I agree with tami lyn and Candy that David’s writing isn’t the best…I think that’s partly due to his lack of skill & writing experience but also due to his shyness and inability to let go and be vulnerable in a way that artists like Mraz and Meyer and Swift do. I’m not saying that he has to be them, obviously, but people connect with their music because they sense a genuiness and a vulnerability that David hasn’t expressed…yet. I’m not saying that he won’t grow in this area…only time will tell. Certainly his hiatus will give him SOME life experiences to draw from but he still has to be able to translate it into something that truly and deeply connects with people in a way that TOSOD didn’t.

  212. ksf says:

    meant Mayer, lol

  213. Not to change the subject, but i gave my daughter a BEGIN Cd and she said he sings good. Thats a start. I think were fighting a lost cause, because nobody knows what David is thinking. But its fun speculating. We have to keep it interesting around here.

  214. kimk says:

tamilyn lol can’t even imagine them dating.

Ali sure I’ll hate it soon enough once they play it over and over again.

  215. tami lyn says:

    hi ksf & linda :)

  216. kimk says:

ksf would love for David to hook up with Mayer or Mraz one day.
also love Colbie Callait and don’t see a reason he couldn’t perhaps hook up with her too.
most of what she does is pretty happy stuff.

  217. ksf says:

kimk – I agree. As “silly” as Taylor’s new song is people actually relate to it. It’s true — people aren’t looking for Shakespeare (as someone pointed out earlier). They’re looking for music that relates to their life…and what girl hasn’t had those breakup experiences that she writes about? I think David remarked once that Taylor is an “amazing storyteller” and that’s why she’s successful.

  218. tami lyn says:

maybe when david comes back he will date a celebrity and make big news! think that might be the only thing to get him on a magazine cover unless he decides to leave the mormon church and be like a soul rapper like Jay Z ,lol, that might be even bigger news! still think he and demi would make a very cute couple and they could make an album together.

  219. ksf says:

Hi tami lyn and Linda! :)

kimk – any of those artists would be awesome. Talk about writing boot camp! :)

  220. tami lyn says:

also david could go wild and be completely different in 2014. i was pure as the driven snow like david when i was a teen and then went away to college and went crazy- smoking, drinking, partying every night like alot of my friends. so anything is possible.

  221. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

David planned on going on a mission when he was 19, but was still under contract with Jive, he said he wasnt sure he was going to go on a mission or not, it was a difficult decision, I think thats why he left WEG, because he was going on a mission. I think Jive’s BIG FAIL regarding David had something to do with it. Maybe he felt that, like he said, he has been blessed & wanted to serve, that he always expected to go on a mission but after everything that happened after AI, he wasnt sure, but then he finally decided to go. Like I said, wouldnt be surprised if he has something worked out, for when he returns. I guess some of us will disagree with the writing thing, although, I think the mission will give him a ton of experiences to draw on. I do think he’s incredible with melodies & will be even better with lyrics when he returns. But, come on, lol, David didnt wanna sing, baby, baby, oh baby, ya know what I mean babe, its you, only you, baby, baby, baby, oh, oh, oh & ummm oh yeah, baby, baby, baby. Or, You broke by heart, my heart is broken, you’re the one that broke it, we’re broken, do ya hear me, you broke it, you broke it, you broke my heart we’re broken(repeat 7 times  )

  222. Candy says:

Tami-lyn-Well, unless they are serving watermelon juice at parties dont think David will join the swinging singles group!

  223. Candy says:

Hi Beth-I too think his experiences will give him new writing material, but for what audience. Church and spiritual folks, yes but the throngs will still want break up stories, love gone wrong songs. Im not saying spiritual/church songs are a bad thing…they just wont keep a mainstream career going.

  224. Candy says:

I cant knock JB, hes a multi, multi millionare at 17! If he retires next year, he will still live the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Does David want that…Im thinking not.

  225. cq#DA2014 says:

Ali @5:04 at least it would be something to talk about regarding David, lol. The torture is waiting to see what path he is going to take.

We are so lucky to have this beautiful album, but because we don’t have tours, appearance, etc to talk about that happens after an album is dropped, the conversation can lead to speculation by fans as to what is going to happen to David.

Hey, a tweet from David would keep the conversation going for at least a few weeks, lol.
Tami, wouldn’t want David to go wild, but would like him to loosen up a bit.

Hoping that David’s team has a more stuff to keep the conversation going.

  226. A Fan says:

When he sings the word Baby in “Rainbow” it sounded sweet to me. So I wouldn’t mind it. lol

  227. Candy says:

If David really wanted fame and fortune, he would have followed the path Jive wanted for him…a teen heartthrob singing songs that would have made him rich and famous, them too.

  228. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

Hey Candy! I think being more on his own, in a foreign country, away from family & friends he’s counted on his whole life, the people he will meet, the experiences he’ll get just meeting different people, how they relate to him, facing all those doors slamming in your face, the gentle rejections & the acceptance, the different situations others are in, poverty, lower class, middle class, upper class, the ways they serve people, helping to build something, serving meals, helping with yards, riding a bike everywhere you go, the long hours, the discipline, the frustration, the joy, the sadness, the fun, the unknown. There was a show about Romney & he and people who know him, who’ve also gone on missions, say its the experience of a lifetime, that it prepares you so well for whatever comes next in your life, that so many went as boys and came back as men, ready to face the world

  229. Candy says:

A Fan- I love Rainbow and him singing the word baby is one of my fav parts, nothing like JB’s version of the same.

  230. A Fan says:

Love the way he sings that song. So pretty have it on repeat!!!!!

  231. Candy says:

Beth-I agree 100% that those experiences will change his prospective on many things but…will they produce songs that will sustain a career. As I was reading your comment, while what you wrote was wonderful, I was reminded of spiritual, save the world type of songs. Broken is fantastic but will anyone outside of hardcore fans ever hear it?? Its one of Davids best works that ticks so many boxes…but not ones that will get it or him played on radio.

  232. sarahhazel says:

    I love Rainbow too!

  233. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

Candy, Yeah, the beav is very rich, but at what price to him. I’ve heard from various sources, he’s a big pain in the………Alot of it is fake, the things done for publicity, fame & money. David’s not fake & I dont think all of us would be here right now, being the mega fans we are, if he were like anyone else. God broke the mold with David. Davids not perfect, thats whats so great about him. He knows he’s not, but he always tries to do his absolute best. Success is in the effort, the path you take, not stepping over people to get where you’re going, but stopping, reaching out & helping them up. We all stumble on that path, but you just keep putting one foot in front of the other

  234. Candy says:

Hi Sarah- me too, Im really hoping for a Rainbow video but would love if they waited a bit to release it…or it could be a long 2013. :)

  235. Janel aka Nellie says:

Candy girl, sent you some twitter DMs

  236. kimk says:

Beth hope it helps him.. and when he comes home he can finally take on finding himself a girlfriend to experience more of the wonderful things life has to offer. relationship experiences will also help with his writing abilities.

  237. Candy says:

Beth (6:24)-I think you missed my point..what you are saying is what I was trying to point out…David didnt choose that lifestyle and he very well could have.

  238. kimk says:

Candy we do having those Matt Clayton pics out there. had to be for something!!

  239. kimk says:

    Candy have not having!

  240. Janel aka Nellie says:

Despite the success we hope for David’s career and many more albums to come, being like JB would make things so different for us fans. David would not be as accessible, and who knows how things would have gone differently. I don’t think David would have changed as a person though, or at least I hope he wouldn’t.

  241. Candy says:

OHHH kimk- Matt and David are a perfect fit, I would love to know what they were for…the one of him crouching down with the light on his shoulders is one of my all time favs. Love Matt & David together!!

  242. kimk says:

    AHH!!

    Everybody Hurts hit 80,000 views!!
Tomorrow sometime I think is the MYX premiere.. at least as I was told!!

    http://youtu.be/-UrNy_YtMUo

  243. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

Candy, Thats a good point, but there are other songs like Broken that have made it big. I kind of had a day dream the other day of David singing it at the Grammy’s. If he did that, it would be a smash. But I get what your saying. I was thinking how he said that he cant wait to bring back the person he’ll become during the mission & that it will allow him to grow in a way he hasnt been able to. I guess we’ll have to just wait(our best trait  ) & see. I can hardly wait, should be interesting

  244. Candy says:

Janel-Up until march 28th I would have agreed with you about the accessible part, now…not so much!! :)

  245. Janel aka Nellie says:

    Candy, LOLOL ’tis true.
Did you see that I DM’d you?? Just some bit of info you might want to know.

  246. kimk says:

Candy as I recall David recorded with Sunny no? Christmas music?
or maybe it was the book thing Deseret Books was talking about?
    got me!!

  247. Ali says:

TOSOD is my favorite album from David. I do tend to like the more uptempo songs but that’s just me. Can’t say I’ve DISliked any of his albums but there are some I don’t listen to as much. As far as vocals, I think BEGIN is by far the best album as capturing the amazing tone in his voice that you usually only hear in a live performance.

Some day I need to pick and choose from all the albums David has given us and make my own super album lol. It think it would be interesting to see what made a top 10 or 15. And so hard to choose!

  248. kimk says:

Janel lol Candy is right. David is goners.. off the face of the earth so!!

  249. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

Candy, Sorry, I think I kind of got your point, but not all the way, lol, I can be a little dense sometime, but, yeah, I agree with you, it just took me a big comment to say it. I drove my teachers crazy in highschool with being too wordy

kimk, I agree, but who’s to say he wont meet a lovely young woman in Chile

I dont exactly mind David singing Baby, lol, he’s good at it, just not every other word, lol.

The Rainbow vid, wooo-hoooo, another gift from David & then theirs the Dougie video in 2013

  250. Candy says:

Janel will ck it put as soon as I switch to my desktop, for some reason the laptop doesnt like twitter and it crashes on me. :)

  251. sarahhazel says:

Ali–or maybe someday we can have David Archuleta–Greatest Hits Volume 1 to 10!

  252. ksf says:

Candy – I’m hopeful but a little afraid that those “save the world” type songs are what we’ll mainly hear from David when he returns…at least for a while. That’s fine every now and again but pretty boring if that’s all there is. As you said, not enough to really sustain a career. I hope his hiatus will open him up rather than make him more closed, as far as vulnerability goes.

And a Fan…I agree. Nothing wrong with “Baby.” :)

  253. kimk says:

Beth lol meet and have a relationship are two different things. pretty sure he is not allowed to do any of that.

  254. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

Hey Ali! I loved TOSOD, especially MKOP, PandA, Good Place & Look Around
I also LOVED Let Me Go from his first cd, one of his best vocals

  255. sarahhazel says:

Just realized it’s only less than 4 months till Christmas & exactly 4 months till David’s 22nd b-day. Time flies…..hope they re-release CFTH….(maybe with a new cover—>but not counting on it LOL)

  256. sarahhazel says:

ksf–I won’t mind “save the world ” type of songs as long as they’re done a la MJ/U2…LOL…..they could sound pretty cool too!…..but I prefer soulful pop/R&B style for him and more love songs, please!—->this one he has to fall in love to really inspire him…haha!

  257. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

kimk, yeah, they cant hug & kiss n’ stuff, but you can get pretty attached to someone, even fall in love when sharing some of the same experiences, conversations & such. Like I said, should be interesting

  259. ksf says:

I hope David has a career like MJ…most of his songs were not about changing the world but the ones that were were AMAZING. The best of both worlds musically. :)

  260. nora says:

I really think that David is where he wants to be right now, I personally think that David didn’t want to get tied down to any label because he wanted to get his mission out of the way. I too believe that he has things to come home to, especially in the Philippines, Sony Music Entertainment is distributing him BEGIN cd in Malaysia, the distributed, I believe TOSD Asian Edition, I just think that maybe David knows more than we do. I still believe that David might not want to be a big star, if he has to change who he is. He always said he would rather sing in small venues rather than large ones, and maybe i’m all wrong too? I think we care so much for him that we want so much more, and he his so talented.Maybe he can move on after 2014, and really decide what it is he wants. JMO

  261. sarahhazel says:

Was this the baby David was holding in that very cute pic? If yes, then time sure flies fast!

  262. Ali says:

sarahhazel – lol I like that idea! then maybe a greatest hits tour ;)

Beth – let me go is such a good song and so overlooked! it sounds very maroon 5 to me. and they play THAT on the radio.

  263. sarahhazel says:

nora–I know…it’s gonna quiet the wait before we know what he wants for his career.

  264. kimk says:

Beth how does he interact or go on dates? I thought at all times he had a male companion with him?
are they allowed to go to dinner and such with girls!?

  268. nora says:

I am sure David Archuleta won’t crush the hope and dreams of every mormon girl when he marrys Mrs. Archuleta #SorryGuys #ImTheOne

  271. sarahhazel says:

Beth–maybe he will come back for that special girl he met in Chile after the mission….you’ll never know…..or she could be one of the missionaries from the US too….or he might not meet anyone he’s interested in…..whatever will be….will be…..

  272. ksf says:

sarahhazel – haha! So funny…I didn’t see your comment before I posted. As you can tell (re: MJ) I totally agree. And yes, pop/R&B is my wish for him too. There are some really awesome R&B/neo soul artists, like India Arie, who have great love songs as well as inspirational songs. I think the key is balance and great songwriting.

  273. Janel aka Nellie says:

LOL Sarah, so said every Mormon girl out there who’s in love with him. Oh, and don’t forget all the broken hearts of every young girl, not just Mormon ones.

  274. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

kimk, well, they can talk to eachother, there may be others around, but far as I know, someone feel free to correct me, but they probably work together on the service aspect of things, maybe feeding people, gathering supplies for those in need, etc…. Working together in those situations, you can learn alot about a person & sometimes there’s that instant connection with someone that cant be ignored. They cant be romantic exactly, but sometimes just being involved in the same activities, building a friendship, can be the foundation for something pretty wonderful

Ali, I agree. I think Let Me Go would’ve been a huge it if it was released as a single & pushed hard by the then label Jive. Who knows, when he gets back, re-release it & a new label, push it to the stations, could still be a big hit. I can picture him opening a concert with that song.

  275. Janel aka Nellie says:

Candy, more DM’s! Looking at life through a different looking glass. :)

  276. tami lyn says:

wonder what the T is?? lol

  277. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

sarahhazel, what do they say, Life happens while you’re making plans. Or something like that, you never know what will happen. For all we know, he has his eye on a woman already, who’s here in the US waiting for him, or someone in Chile or someone he hasnt met yet. She just better be dang good to him

Hey Janel! Thats true, I think there are many, many young women in love with him. Just a hunch

  278. tami lyn says:

beth- i do think he has someone waiting for him in utah

  279. Candy says:

tami-lyn so do I! A family friends daughter! Heard her name is Frankie. Ok the name part isnt true..or is it ;)

  280. tami lyn says:

candy~ ooh haha! maybe LOL ;)

  281. tami lyn says:

hey frankie! are u lurking? are u david’s special someone? do tell :)

  282. kimk says:

Beth guess he could get an inkling of someone he might like and sure eventually he will experience a deep personal relationship and kill us with songs in kind.

  283. kimk says:

lol so now Frankie is David’s gf!?

  284. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

tami_lyn & Candy, hmmm, you guys could be right  All I want for David, is for him to be happy. Well, to be happy & a spanish cd(with videos that include dancing) a Christmas concert in MN(it could be in April, August or December, I dont care  ), more albums, more videos, more, more, more  Of course, balanced with his future family life

  285. tami lyn says:

if david has to fall in love and get married to write amazing songs i prefer he stay single and write just good songs cuz if he gets married millions of girls will be heartbroken and move on to someone else.

  286. tami lyn says:

if david wants a normal life~being married with kids then i think we can forget about a tour. don’t think he would abandon his family to go on tour and what girl wants to fantasize about some married guy with kids?

  287. Candy says:

Beth-Like I have said before…I hope he can make babies and music at the same time.

  288. tami lyn says:

i think he can still make music which us older fans will always appreciate but the young girls will find someone new and single to scream about lol

  289. kimk says:

tamilyn that is just if David keeps his pop idol image.
my guess he is not interested in going the 1D or JB way.

  290. kimk says:

tamilyn they already have for the most part.. 1D and JB took most of them.

  291. tami lyn says:

    kim- yeah probably true :(

  292. Candy says:

I dont think at this point in his life David is looking to be chased by screaming throngs of teenage girls. Im hoping for an Adele, Bruno, Marz style of music when he returns. Something with substance and maturity…BEGIN was good start.

  293. cq#DA2014 says:

In regards of David becoming a big star and making lots of money. Wouldn’t it be great for him to have the means to be able to support all the charities that he likes with lots of money. I know that being a super star is not an easy life, but it affords you the opportunity to do so much good in the world. I could see David living a simple life and donating a lot of his money to charties.

  294. tami lyn says:

yeah maybe david has had enough of the screaming girls. wonder if he ever really liked it? maybe it was all just too much.

  295. collegemom says:

I don’t think David will ever give up touring. There are ways to do it – summer tour or short winter tour and other performances mixed in. David is in his element on stage and he already knows how to pop from here to there and back so I don’t see it as a problem.

  296. kimk says:

Candy now I like that.. all those artists are fabulous!

  297. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

Candy, I think he can, he’s quite the multi-tasker

tami_lyn, actually, believe it or not, but tons of women are attracted to married guys, they represent the dream of finding someone, but they just go crazy over them. Plus, I think his fandom will grow, people will see him more than that kid on AI with the big voice, they’ll see him as an adult, take him more seriously, give his music a chance. I just think things are going to go epic when David gets back, Epic I tell ya

  298. collegemom says:

Also, it has always been very clear to me that he loves being on stage and even on Idol he said that the audience gets him really into the performance. He has total control of the stage and performing-David knows how to work the audience and he seems to really love it.

  299. kimk says:

he can always work with writers.. he is a vocalist extraordinare just needs something to sing.

  300. tami lyn says:

when i went to his concert i would have loved if everyone would have stayed seated and been quiet so i could have heard david. i was surrounded by crazy screaming girls and could barely hear david and i left with a headache vowing to never go to another concert. the screaming (which i totally understood) ruined it for me.

  301. angelbymyside says:

Candy ~ Sent you a DM

  302. josie says:

Hm. I’m trying to think of something to contribute here. Not coming up with much. lol. Except..a loooooong time ago, a DJ said they hardly ever play the songs of AI alum. He said whether or not they succeed depends on song choice, and most of them fail miserably.

  303. palmtreephan (#DA2014.....and always) says:

tami lyn, with all due respect, I honestly feel that very few of David’s fans are his fans because of fantasies of hooking up with him….LOL!

Candy, I’ve always felt that the whole WEG debacle was something that may have been forced by Jive. David has said in several interviews during that time that he used to be afraid of making waves or making people angry by speaking his mind and that learning the business end of things was a challenge but he was learning how to be his own advocate for what he wants with regard to his career. It looked, to me, like David chose to seperate himself from Jive (and subsequently WEG) when he decided, once and for all, that he was going on a mission and would not be signing a new contract with a record label since he would be gone for two years and would not be able to commit to any contractual obligations….makes sense that he would choose to wait until his return to deal with new business opportunities and I’ve actually been pretty impressed with all he was able to accomplish on his own following the end of his relationship with Jive and WEG.

  304. josie says:

Which reminds me, lol….Someone said he may have only signed with WEG because he had to have mgmt in order for TOSOD to be released, and at the time he had no one. Who knows?

  305. Candy says:

    ABMS-replied :)

  306. tami lyn says:

oh i’m sure most of the teen girls who love david and justin have dreams of meeting them and being their girlfriend! LOL

  307. palmtreephan (#DA2014.....and always) says:

David’s love of music, from my perspective, has ALWAYS been a means to connect with people. That connection occurs with the live performances and is why he’s so phenomenal on stage and why I don’t believe he will ever stop touring as long as he can pay the bills doing it.

  308. sarahhazel says:

Back from trending SU2C Crush Kids Cancer….my fingers hurt but….It WWTT!!! Woot!!!

Just caught up with the comments, whew! Now my eyes hurt LOL

  309. josie says:

palm~ Don’t you have to make so much off of albums, though, in order to have a solo tour? I know that this last time around, Cook’s fans were worried that he wouldn’t have a tour because of poor sales. He ended up opening for Gavin DeGraw.

  310. kimk says:

josie I remember something like that. also think it was Michael Orland who said that when David comes back if he gives folks what they want to hear he will be ok.

  311. MaggieFOD says:

Kathy: I work in Springfield! I live in a small town up on a hill northeast of Springfield on Route 54! I lived in Springfield for a couple years before marrying and moving to my “mountain” town. So you’re not the only David Nut in the area! LOL!

  312. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

David just lights up when he’s on stage, he sings like no other when on stage, he’s unbelievable. Someone mentioned that he loves to sing in smaller theaters, which is fine by me. I listen to a local classic rock station in the morning here in MN they have millions of listeners world wide & they have lots of famous singers on for interviews & alot of them say they love the smaller venues, you can really connect with the audience. Not that David or the other singers dont have fun at big venues & I know they appreciate all of the people that come to their concerts, its just easier to connect eye to eye with the audience.

  313. kimk says:

tamilyn lol you see all the goings on with one of the 1D boys. fans were mad when he got caught cheating on his girlfriend. lol seems those boys really like the ladies. ha of all ages too.
yeah the fans of those guys are for the most part into the boy/girl stuff.

  314. kimk says:

Gavin Degraw would be a good person for David to work with too.

  315. palmtreephan (#DA2014.....and always) says:

tami lyn, I think most of the screaming throngs have “moved on”…..by that I mean the constant screaming inappropriately throughout the whole show throngs. I was really stuck by the respectful, calm, orderly signing session at the bus depicted in the video taken following the Beaver Creek show in December that was posted on today’s front page…..a far cry from anything that might have happened a few years ago. Over time, David’s demeanor brings out the best in everyone around him.

  316. kimk says:

personally I think if David wants to have more fans then he does now he needs to attract fans his own age.
the older ones.. well lol we don’t live forever.

  317. Ali says:

josie – i’m not palm but i can say that the more the album sales the bigger the tour but album sales do not dictate if you can tour or not.
touring is actually where lots of acts make their money, not cd sales. artists make so little on album sales now that touring and merch are really the biggest part of their paycheck. of course, that hinges on having a successful tour. that doesn’t always mean arenas though. if you book an arena and sell 40% of the seats (say, 4000 or so) you’ll make less money than if you book a theater and sell 90% for about 2500 seats. these are just estimated numbers, btw. but the overhead on a small tour is much less than on a big tour. if you can sell out 52 arenas or stadiums in a tour that’s awesome and a huge money maker. but there are few acts out there that can do that. so you go for smaller venues that allow for a greater profit margin.

and actually there are some acts that are a majority “touring act”. meaning they don’t put out a new album for each tour. they just keep touring. dave matthews band is a good example of this. i think they toured every year for at least 10 years straight before taking this past year off from tour. that’s kind of an extreme example but there ya go lol.

  318. tami lyn says:

kim- yeah those 1Dboys are naughty and the girls love it LOL! and omg i would freak out if david collaborated with gavin! he is my other obsession :)

  319. tami lyn says:

very interesting info ali! thanks :)

  320. palmtreephan (#DA2014.....and always) says:

josie @7:58….Bingo! I think that’s exactly how it went down. I’m no expert, by any means, but I think it actually works in an opposite fashion with regard to touring. It’s my understanding that artists make the majority of their money from touring and it’s the tour that sells the album, which is why artists always tour right about the time a new album is being released. Sure, it takes capital to be able to pay for touring but it definitely makes sense that, if you’re touring, people are gonna buy your new album. Seems kinda like a Catch 22 to me…..if you tour and still have bad sales with your current album, you’re probably gonna be in some deep doo-doo.

Beth, definitely think that’s exactly why David’s shows in those smaller venues are so incredibly awesome!

  321. tami lyn says:

hope david does do smaller venues cuz then i might actually have a chance to meet him. i want to look into his eyes so i can know what everyone else who’s met him is talking about when they say his gaze renders them speechless! lol

  322. palmtreephan (#DA2014.....and always) says:

Ali, thanks! That’s pretty much the way I understood things. I think Jimmy Buffet is another example. Tours continuously, makes gobs and gobs of money but doesn’t crank out many records anymore.

  323. palmtreephan (#DA2014.....and always) says:

    oooops, Buffett……shame on me!

  324. kimk says:

tamilyn lol yeah they are bad and yup the girls love it.

  325. josie says:

palm & ali~ Thanks! That’s interesting. :) Although, I wouldn’t normally go see an artist if I didn’t know at least a few of his songs. (Actually, I don’t “go see” artists besides David, anyway. lol) I guess my point is..if peeps aren’t buying or hearing his music, what incentive would they have to see him in concert?

  326. palmtreephan (#DA2014.....and always) says:

tami lyn, save for a coveted VIP ticket…..worth every last morsel of a cent. ;)

  327. Ali says:

i prefer the smaller venues too, tami lyn. its fun to experience an arena or a stadium every now and then but its really not the best place to hear music. and you’re so far that you may as well be watching it at home on tv lol. i would never wish less success on my favorite acts but all of my very favorite shows have been smaller. there are some successful acts that chose to play smaller venues because of that difference in feel.

ptp — jimmy buffet!! i think it would be so cool to see him someday. maybe while i was chilling in key west ;)

  328. tami lyn says:

palmtree- omg if i ever get to go to a VIP i will have a heart attack LOL! and hopefully a great story to tell :)

  329. palmtreephan (#DA2014.....and always) says:

josie, that’s where the payola of radio airplay comes into play……people hear a song on the radio that they like, hear that artist is coming to their area, buy a ticket, enjoy the show, and run out to the store the next day to buy the album that is currently being promoted….maybe even buy the last album that came out, too. That is a real problem for David in reaching new fans to buy tickets to the shows….lack of airplay.

  330. kimk says:

hoping David takes on some US tv appearances and award shows when he comes back.
like the Grammy’s, Alma Awards, AI if still around. if he makes noise, buzz he can start things going again.

  331. Beth, The Freud, Lloyd, Boyd & Floyd #DA2014 says:

    Goodnight Everyone, Take Care All!

Josie, lots of big acts, legends, etc….perform
in smaller venues & do extremely well. They
might not of released new music in years, but
people still want to hear them. David has decades
to make new, wonderful music, wow, how great
    will that be  G’night!

  332. Ali says:

josie – he def needs music to draw people in. i think he’s done a good job of that so far though. even for the mkoc tour which didn’t have much advertising or a new album to push it, he sold pretty well. as far as when he comes back — who knows. it will be up to david and his team to get his name back out there then with whatever direction they decide to go.

  333. Ali says:

beth – love that thought :) good night to you!

  334. palmtreephan (#DA2014.....and always) says:

Ali, my hubby and I have about a dozen Buffett concerts under our belts…..it’s so fun, quite the experience, but the real fun is the friends we have who are fans. Much like David’s fans, it’s kind of a family of great people. Jimmy puts on an awesome show alright but he’s definitely not the greatest vocalist in the universe. He has written some amazing songs, though, very much a storyteller and I’m talking waaaay beyond Margaritaville and Cheeseburger in Paradise…..LOL. Something that is really amazing is that the guy (think he’s 65 now) always manages to draw in new fans. There is every age at his shows…….6 to 96……he needs to can that secret!

  335. Lisa @txarchie says:

I saw David in San Antonio on his first solo tour. The venue only held 500 & it was fabulous!!

  336. josie says:

Tks for answering my questions, guys. :) I think my concern is that David really has no interest in making a radio hit. He basically said as much when making TOSOD. To him, it’s all about staying true to himself & using his gift to make others feel better. Which is honorable, but….peeps just aren’t gonna buy music they’ve never heard. And a label’s not gonna push for radio play if he tells them he doesn’t care. lol. I think he’s gonna have to start caring a little, & bending just a teeny bit, if he really wants this to career to work.

  337. Candy says:

Josie-he did say thta, didnt he. That it wasnt all about having or writing a # 1 hit..a noble statement if it pays the bills. I just ant to hear him sing live, dont care if its in a 500 seat venue or a 5,000!

  338. Candy says:

  342. Lisa @txarchie says:

I’m right there with you Candy! Thank u ABMS!! David may try to blend in with the others in the pic, but that “it” factor makes him stand out in any crowd.

  343. Candy says:

Hi Lisa, I got to spend 10 days in glorious San Antonio in July, ate my way around the Riverwalk, what a fun and scenic place!

  344. supergrandjudie#DA2014 says:

I read all your comments. Very interesting. I just got to the end and whoopie. Worth the wait. Glad to see happiness and friendliness. Picture is worth a thousand words. Well I trended and now I’m sleepy. I repeat glad I stayed up. Now I can go to sleep content. Goodnight everyone. You are all such great fans.

  345. Lisa @txarchie says:

Candy…..I grew up in San Antonio & live in Austin now. Took my elderly dad to D’s concert in a bar! He was proud to be the oldest one there in his 80s. :-) . Still love to stay on the river walk even tho I grew up there. Glad you had such a nice time!

  346. Candy says:

MaggieFOD, does the second word of your town start with a P? If so, I used to go to b-ball tournaments there for boys basketball. I live in the capital but teach in a small town where I bet other teams called us the —– potties. Lincoln used to live here also. But there were no witches. So what’s new?

  348. OoO says:

I hope we will be able to get his sales # for this week. I am not being realistic but hope for $3000. Ali where can I find that info thanks because u r good at finding this kind of things.

    Candy lol me too!!

  350. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Just checking in for tonight…..I’ve been sick today…think I have strep throat….Going to the Dr. tomorrow…Just had to check in to see what’s up in David Land….I agree that David will be successful when he gets back and bring on those smaller venues…..David is at his best with small interactive crowds……Loved watching his first video blog…..Just watching it makes you realize how much he has grown up in the last 4 years….Will check in again when I feel better………….Miss Vicki

  351. Jhen says:

Hello everyone! Just drop by for few minutes. Because I’m in the office.
David still with Sony but only in Asia. Sony Asia support David. I agree, David stand out in the crowd in the pic. He has X factor.
As of David will become wild lol, like drinking, cheating girlfriend, smoking. I don’t think so. I think his music direction is more of Jazon Mraz, Josh Groban, Adele, not 1D.
Most of David fans in Asia are young fans, if David will got married, we don’t know if he will soon look for his wife after mission.I think some of young fan will look for other artist to idolize. That will tested, if you are loyal or not. I will stay supporting David even he have his own family, because I like David not because he is single, but because of his character and his voice, he is a good singer. I don’t have illusion lol, I hope young fans will also know to appreciate his music not because he is available lol

  352. Jhen says:

Tamilyn- you have to look into David eyes, it’s mesmerizing lol If he gaze you , you gaze back lol

  353. grammyj says:

The way a musician earnings a living doing music is rapidly changing. David has already earned a following through the concerts he has done in the past and from Idol as an extremely gifted singer. He can for sure get people to come to his concerts in Utah and of course, the Philippines.

I just read that Matt Girard from AI season 8 (I think) did an online concert from his home. Here is the article about it http://www.mlive.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2012/08/matt_giraud_live_in_concert_to.html. Others have done the same thing which includes Jason Mraz and Sara B. I think this would be an excellent thing for David to do when he gets back from his mission!

  354. kimk says:

So evidently, if you’d like to be retweeted, just mention David Archuleta. #davidhasanarmy

    :D

    of course I RT’d it!!

  355. Jhen says:

Personally, I want also smaller venue for David concert, which doesn’t happened in the Philippines, because the promoter want to earn more. Smaller venue is more intimate. I like something like David in Hongkong, but of course I know it is not a concert, it just a show for Fox people and the other was at the office of FOX in Hongkong I think, where he sang very close to his fans and no bodyguard, just few staff. That was a very intimate.

  356. Jhen says:

Kimk- I laugh at David Ray tweet, but it’s true lol

  358. Sparkles 2 (Big Time Lurker) says:

Hello everyone…I love David’s BEGIN. album. I am here everyday lurking. I have been a fan since the Fanblast days. I feel I know most of the regular posters. Today, I am just sitting here waiting on this eve of Katrina for Isaac to come through Baton Rouge. We are supposed to get a direct hit. Gotta love our weather. Saw where California was having a lot of earthquakes…made me think of when I live there a couple years ago. I love those mini quakes. A friend said only someone from a state where they have hurricanes would be excited about a quake. Back to lurking….

  359. Ali says:

OoO – If David made the BB200, the numbers will be out sometime tomorrow morning. If the album dropped out of the 200, numbers will be harder to find. Sometimes Brian over at Idol Chatter gets uncharted numbers but he seems to not get pop as much. Not sure if he has access to those charts. We’ll see!

Sparkles — hope you stay safe in Baton Rouge!!
