This Archuleta album was produced by Emmy award winning composer Kurt Bester, a legend in the music world. Bester, a composer with 30 years of music industry experience, teamed up with a rising star with a great voice.
The two make a great combination.
This album includes: Beautiful, by Christina Aguileara; Somewhere Only We Know, by Keane; Don’t Give Up, by Peter Gabriel and more.
Archuleta, became an American sensation at 16 years old, as one of the youngest contestants on the seventh season of American Idol, finishing in the number two slot.
This Archuleta CD is worth the $14.98 it sells for in the Citizen Bookstore.

“Begin” is tasteful, dignified and understated, and Archuleta pulls off some surprises with his silky, sweet vocals.
He casts an aural glow of sincerity on Christina Aguilera’s “Beautiful,” a graciously not-overdone version that resonates when he sings, “You are beautiful, no matter what they say.” He also delivers a deft take on Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know,” a smart, mid-tempo song choice that steers “Begin” away from a ballad badlands of monotony.
Naturally he’s confident and convincing on “Broken,” his solid original contribution to the collection, but Archuleta is almost shockingly effective on his rendition of U2’s “Pride (In the Name of Love),” which is glossier than the band’s version, but a suitable blend of earnestness and humility.

What a great week! We had 28 people walk or run 241.5 miles this week. @DA2014FitClub followers have walked 394.1 miles in a little less than two weeks and 32 different people have participated! Wait..wait…wait. Don’t gooooo!
True confession. I often passed on “Wait” on the TOSOD Asia Tour Edition CD. Lovely song, David’s vocals were strong, but, nothing it never really captured my imagination. I went right to Notice Me.
Fast forward about 5 months when I heard Wait live at the MKOC tour. Goodness gracious was this the same song? Was lucky enough to watch David perform it in Irving Plaza the night Nate Campany (co-writer) turned up. Pretty darned special.
Not only did the live version capture my imagination but David put his body and soul into that performance. I got it. As David once said, he made me understand it. So, I’ve been on the hunt for vids that convey that feeling. Love this one from @rhiminee from Westbury NY last December (opening night). Note that most of this is shot from the side, so you can focus on his hand movements, his stance, the reaching out, but nothing is there. Watch and enjoy.

Through the magic of video-editing a music video can be made. It could even be a video of David’s vocals without seeing him on the video. I would bet that they did film David singing the song before he left so a video could be made with him in it.

Good morning, everyone. Today is a bittersweet day for our family as our grandson, Ricky, will enter the MTC. We are excited for him to begin this new adventure and are proud of him for being willing to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Like David, Ricky knows that his service as a missionary is what he needs to do at this particular time in his life. We will miss him but are happy for his willingness to serve others! Thanks for a great post today…..it helps to soothe my heart and brings me happiness.

I missed a couple of weeks for ideas to keep busy while David is gone. Here is what I missed, plus this weeks so you could, if you want to, choose to do any of these.
Though, Aug 6-12 ended up being Begin. release week. LOL
Week 17; Aug 6-12: Crush Week. Promote Crush on the radio, Have an Orange Crush party, make some of those Orange Crush necklaces (directions please), play crush here on FOD and Fanscene from different concerts, include Japanese remix.
Week 18; Aug 13-19: If you don’t have a journal, start one. Write in it faithfully at least once a week until the end of David’s mission and beyond. If you have one, keep up with it. If you’re journal entries aren’t too personal and about David, share if you want; this week only.
(Funny, I gave away those 3 journals at the fan dinner)
Week 19; Aug 20-26: Cool off week. Take a David break and go swimming or to a water park.

David’s BEGIN sales numbers for last week are out:
David Archuleta, Begin (4,000, -68%, 14,000) (#138 BB200)
LOL I know I said this last week too but those numbers are higher than I thought! I was figuring maybe 3,000. Average first to second week drop around 65-75%. Found this from Billboard when Madonna’s last album came out:
“Most superstar albums that start at or near the top of the chart fall by 60% to 80% in their second week. And, high-debuting sets that are especially front-loaded by pre-orders, niche fanbases or unusual marketing campaigns take harder hits.”
Hers dropped by 86.7% from first week to second.
Just wanted to clarify that by saying I thought the sales would be lower I meant because there’s really no standard promo for this album. First week sales were heavy loaded with all the preorders and diehard fans who were waiting on the album. Sales past the first week usually rely on continuing promo to raise awareness of the album and also radio play. Maybe some tv appearances in there too. Of course, David has none of that for this album. So that’s why I was surprised to only see a 68% drop off. That’s a good thing
Maybe if we get a mv it will generate a few more sales too. Not sure how widely that will be seen though. I’m assuming it will be YT only. But I’m certainly looking forward to seeing it.

Martha – it really doesn’t take much to bump up spots on the iTunes charts, especially the lower the album is AND especially when you’re looking at genre-specific charts. You can probably almost count the difference on your hands between those lower spots lol. Its always a good thing when an album moves up spots but I doubt it was a significant number of purchases. It might be that suddenly a group of gifted albums were redeemed. Those don’t count as sales until they giftee downloads them. That’s just an example of what the difference could be, btw, I’m not sure what the actual reason was.
OoO – yes, the Billboard numbers out today include sales at Deseret Book

Martha – the thing about iTunes that’s nice and frustrating at the same time is that its so fluid. With Billboard, you get a weekly ranking. So. You’re there for a week — it may not be the highest but its steady. With iTunes you can possibly jump from 151 to 42 to to 59 to 234 to 876 in a matter of a day. No joke. So its exciting but somewhat exhausting lol.

Just went back and looked at 2nd week numbers for the other albums. The debut album had a 64% drop off the 2nd week (and that’s with TONS of promo for that album) and TOSOD had a 74% drop off for 2nd week. So I’d say BEGIN is right in the pocket at 68%.
When you consider the fact that, unlike the other two, its an independent album and is not physically available in many stores — that’s preeeetty good.
sarahhazel, Annie is still very much a David fan. She runs a website that I believe is called David Archuleta Fans Germany. I don’t know about Nes but I think he’s still a fan as well.

Linda and ksf, independent albums are usually pretty affordable to make(lower production costs) so if you average $10 per cd x 14,000 cds sold, I would hope 140k would cover it with some left over.

I was shopping yesterday for this and that. I checked out DA”s CDs at all the stores I went to.
Deseret Book– Banners and tables full of albums. Well not full, a lot had been sold. The albums were everywhere I looked and right by the counter too. They really do stand out.
Next Wal mart. Found one left and then saw four more over on the other side of the stacks.
Costco – a nice big pile of about 30.
Best Buy nada.
Office Depot nada, but I did find my pencil leads I went there for 0.7.
Results- the majority of stores I shop at have David’s album.

nora – regarding your questions from a few hours ago (lol sorry i was offline) Billboard always rounds their numbers to the nearest thousand for publication. but when they’re adding together the weekly totals, they add the exact # and then round. that can cause an album total to look like its off by a thousand high or low but really its not. so for last week they said he sold 11,000 but the exact numbers a little under that. for this week they said he sold 4,000 but obviously that number was rounded up as well because when they added the two exact numbers together, the nearest thousand was 14K. hope that makes sense!

While we wait, the other night I was listening / watching David videos on my laptop. Hubby, who has NEVER asked me anything about David said, “No bicycle videos?” Bahhhhh! We busted out laughing. Guess he was paying attention at SLC. Then we preceded to have a great conversation about what all David had done since the SLC concert and how he has done this mission like the other members. He said, “wow that is really impressive. Good for him.”

The others were nice but not really what I would have chosen. But it’s awesome that David went to the lengths he did — not only to make sure we had music but vids as well. Smart move!
Hey Candy! I LOVE Broken, EH, Pride, DGU & Beautiful, my top 5, the rest are a very close second. The whole EH song is fantastic, but I constantly listen to that ‘On” towards the end when its at one note, then goes up a note, with in the same note. Gosh, sorry, dont know how to explain what I mean,lol. Ummm, singing the words Hold On & the word on is sung at two different keys within the same word. Oh my heck, I dont know

Just Love that video, it is so David, made me so teary. So true to what is going on in the real world, something everybody can relate to. Don’t give up from the hurt, because there is so much more to life, if we have faith and strength and love we can endure, that is what the video means to me. Life is worth it all in the end. I believe that David didn’t just walk into all our lives by chance and that we all just coincidently became his fans as a result. I believe that David was destined to walk into all of our lives for a reason. He was destined to touch all of our lives in some form or manner. He was destined to be our inspiration on so many different levels. I also believe that WE were destined to be David’s fans and to share and take part in his musical journey. I just simple believe this whole journey has a purpose. It was destined. David was chosen for us and we were chosen for him. How did WE get so lucky to be the chosen one’s?

Charlotte, Yup, the plans for the Rainbow Wing are underway, construction starts in two days
GOSH! Cindy/UT now you really got to me, that was very beautiful. And i believe that what you said is true. we needed David, David needed us and all of his fans needed each other for this journey that we are taking with him. Other wise why would we wait for him.
SIGHHHHHH I am so grateful for all the music David left for us…I cant imagine how different the two years would have been without it!

CindyUT, beautifully said. ITA completely. David was indeed destined to come to us as are all the gifts we receive from God. In this case we have the extraordinary luck of being granted the gift of an angel; to love and cherish and protect and to be inspired and moved by. It isn’t just luck that WE were the ones chosen for this. We were blessed with this gift of fate and it’s a gift I, for one, will never take for granted.
ABMS, I’m sniffling right along with you. Ohhhh, I wish he was here so I could scoop him up in a huge bear hug.

Beth-I lost my sister about 2 years ago, she was sick for about a year, it was a very difficult time, going thru chemo, even though time passes, you never forget there is a special place in my heart for her. I agree David does bring faith, hope and love into our lives. This video starts out sad, but it has such a great message, to just hang on and it will all be worth it in the end.. I really feel better just watching and listening to his Voice.

When I look at David sitting in the studio so deeply and emotionally committed to the message and the music…and to think he must have had so much on his mind leaving the next day…to sing like that is truly a gift.

CindyUT, Linda And Charlotte. Well said. I feel the same way. From the moment I saw him on AI and he won, knowing thery were touring, I knew I had to see him in person and that once was never enough. I am always in a good place wherever David is seen or heard. P.S. Another observation I had when seeing him at meet & greets and at the concerts themselves, David seems to be in a good place because we are there for him. He knows we love him.
Candy, He was probably hurting a bit himself when singing it, thinking about his family & friends, fans too. Plus, the not knowing, what the next two years will bring, what experiences he will have, living in a foreign country for two years, its alot to think about, worry about, some apprehension, some doubts, normal, part of life, but difficult just the same.

Candy, yeah, when you think of the shape we’re all in after he left, the beautiful music, now the video, I cant imagine how difficult it was for him to go. He’s a very strong, yet gentle man, pretty proud to be a fan, thats for sure

SGJ, I know what you mean about once never being enough when it comes to David’s concerts. I’ve been to four now and I’m saving like mad for the next one when he comes home.
Beth, I’ll bet he was apprehensive and hurting when he was thinking about leaving. That is an extremely hard choice to make and knowing he’d be away from the people he loves most with little contact had to be killing him. He’s strong(both in his emotions and his faith) and a fighter, though, so I know he’s making the best of things and learning and growing every day.

Everybody Hurts hits me hard everytime I listen so I’m sitting here just watching the vid and it’s like OMG. Wowsers. What a song; what an album!

Charlotte, as difficult as it was for David to make the decision to go, then leave, I think it will do him a world of good. I think he needs the time away to have real life experiences, make his own decisions, not that he doesnt now, I just mean, to be on his own, to figure out life, basically, to totally depend on himself. He’s very strong, resiliant, capable, I think this time away will help him realize it, or be more sure of it.

I just started my last semester of undergrad, and it’s going to be BUSY, so what a nice reprieve the music vid is. I LOVE IT!!! It’s sad but hopeful at the same time. The visuals add even more emotion to David’s vocals, which I didn’t think was possible but it happened. WOW!!!!! Thank you David and everyone on Team Archuleta!

Evening everyone! Just wanted to stop by and say how much I love the Everybody Hurts video!! Very, very well done and I love how the 3 story lines depict courage, faith and hope. What a great message! The story line with the mom at war I think was my favorite. And what a treat to see him singing in the recording studio..and to see what he was feeling as he sang that song. It’s only been 5 months and he has left us so many beautiful gifts.
Beth, your comment at 8:32, I completely agree. It will do him a world of good. It’s the same with kids going off to college or moving out on their own for the first time. He needs that experience to be ready for the next phase life will take him to when he comes home. He’ll be ready to maybe have his own place and maybe start looking more for that special someone.
Not to mention, it’ll do his music a world of good, too. He’ll mature so much as a song writer it might seem scary at first. But it’ll be so worth it when we see him with that Grammy in his hand

I didn’t like David at the beginning . I like everyone except David. I didn’t imagine I was gonna be his biggest fan after he sang imagine. David change my life in so many ways. I will always be grateful I become a fan.

Love the video of Everybody hurts, heartfelt. Just to see David face on the video is make me so happy.
I love this video a lot and I see the points of stories here too. But my only true story in here is what u read on that CAPTIONS that David’s feeling for his fans is real love comparing to the stories that was made up for his MV. His captions got me teary eyes more than MV itselfs. Thank you David.
