“Part of the process of BEGINning anew, or changing directions is to know where you want to go. I know this sounds simplistic and easy, but this is one of the most difficult of choices to make with clarity.”

Fans of David is 4 years old!
More than a toddler, past our terrible two’s, ready for pre-school. So, we are celebrating!
** HUGE DISCLAIMER HERE. I am building on the themes from Joanie’s anniversary post last year. In other words, I’m stealing shamelessly. It was just too good!****
On August 3rd, 2008 Fans Of David Archuleta welcomed fans from everywhere to celebrate all (fan) things David Archuleta with them! The first official post came the next day on August 4th, but fans were made welcome and invited to be part of an exciting community on August 3rd.
I remember how I came to FOD. We were had happily commenting and sharing at a certain place for months before, but our fearless leaders Richard Parkinson (Papa FOD), Jenny, Becky, and Miss Mary were going elsewhere. When Jenny and Becky announced just a few days before of the new Fans of David fansite, I immediately recall thinking…”Whereever they are heading is where I need to go!”. And here we are!
Joanie wrote in her post last year:
Our bond is David Archuleta and on a daily basis here at FOD, we have been happy, honored, and privileged to report, support, share, promote, celebrate, and “squee about” an incredibly talented, wise, sweet, endearing, and occasionally wonderfully random man and his music! (I could go on and on with adjectives ). We can all look around and be amazed at the relationships that have formed. There are friendships here that far transcend any initial commonalities shared during our Idol days of hand wringing and go-phone voting. As David has continued to mature and grow as an artist, so has FOD as a fansite.
FOD by the numbers:
We have currently reached 2, 782 posts (daily, morning/afternoon and evening), over a million comments, and are followed by 4036 people on twitter!! (and that number has increased even after David left on his mission).
We’ve changed over the years, even our physical appearance, but we all love working in some capacity for FOD.
Kalei is not in the pic above (my photo editing skills are horrid) but here she is below:
Kalei and David are our Late Night Chat mods!
And more of our awesome chat mods who all work so hard to give you a place to chat and listen to great music!

The 1st FOD Post!!!!
WELCOME TO FANS OF DAVID! Teen Choice Awards; Exclusive Fans of David Pictures!
David Archuleta on the Red Carpet at the taping of the Teen Choice Awards, August 4th.
WELCOME TO FANS OF DAVID! HOORAY!
Since January, my world has changed. Not only has David Archuleta shepherded music back into my life and inspired me to pursue creative endeavors with his extraordinary gift (and with the essence of who he is); he has been the catalyst for the nurturing of many new friendships. I cannot tell you how many phenomenal Archies, Arch Angels, and David fans of other names I have met online, and a few of them have become truly close friends; people to whom I turn daily for serious discussions about music, fangirly discussions about–well–fangirly things, and for support with that everyday real life stuff. That is why we are so thrilled that you have chosen to follow us here: we’re going to create some magic on this site: exclusive interviews, endless chats, fan stories and pictures, David Archuleta news and features and artwork, and most importantly, a safe haven for fans to discuss and celebrate David and each other! Thank you so much for joining us in the creation of this fan home. We envision this fan family staying connected for a long, long time as we witness David’s artistry blossom and his career unfold.
A sincere thanks to Richard Parkinson for starting this fansite, and a special thanks to Miss Mary who has worked long hours and pulled many all-nighters to get the website on its feet. We are still tweaking, so be patient while we create and refine. Just thank you so much for being here today. It means the world to us.

FOD posts from August 3rd ’09, Aug. 3rd ’10 and Aug. 3rd ’11! Click below on the pics!
One of the great things about FOD is the ability of all of you to rally around a cause. There have been many over the past years and we have been proud to be cheerleaders and promoters for them. To round out our anniversary post, here is a recent shout out from the man himself to all those who helped make a difference with Invisible Children. Hats off to all fans, including FOD, for always responding positively and generously when called.
That thunderous applause at the end of the vid is for all of you!

BEGIN. vlog #4
What are your favorite songs from the album?
David talks about the songs he put on the BEGIN. album. All of them are favorites of his and he enjoyed recording them but see the ones he just loved recording. He wanted to find songs people could connect to.
“They capture the emotions and mental states that I wanted to share with people”.
Have a listen. Please comment too!
Humble as always, David gives kudos to the original artists and the pure love of each song the way they are. These will just knock our socks off when we hear them live. One day

“I’D WALK A THOUSAND MILES FOR DAVID ARCHULETA”
Get ready to BEGIN. the “I’d Walk 1000 Miles For David Archuleta” campaign! BEGIN.ning August 7th, 2012, the @DA2014FitClub encourages you to BEGIN. walking or running to complete, as a group, 1000 miles as a tribute to David and his new cd, BEGIN. We’ll BEGIN. at 12:01 a.m. EDT, August 7th, 2012, so wherever you are in the world, put on your running shoes and join us. Get a pedometer, measure your route or walk on a treadmill to keep track.
1. You must be following @DA2014FitClub on twitter for your miles to be counted.
2. Report how many miles you walk/run each day or each week to @DA2014FitClub.
That’s it. Pretty simple, huh? If you walk in kilometres, we’ll convert it to miles (1 kilometre = 0.62 miles). Also, if you can, please send in a picture or twitvid/video of you running or walking via Twitter to @DA2014FitClub. If you don’t want to show your face, just have someone take a picture of your feet or legs, or you from the back. We’ll update how many miles we’ve gone as a group every week. To help me, I plan to set a goal of how many miles I’m going to try to do every week. It’s not how fast you can go or how far you can go; it’s that you BEGIN. Remember even ¼ mile adds up to a mile if you do it 4 times a week. Set a goal and BEGIN.! We can’t wait to find out how long it takes to get to 1000 miles!
Who we are: DA2014FitClub is a group of David Archuleta fans who decided to exercise and eat healthy foods to become more fit while David is on his mission. We found there were many fans who wanted to join in on the fun and fitness, so @DA2014FitClub was formed on twitter to allow fans to encourage and motivate each other, to share tips and to report their progress. Join us!!!! No membership fee, just a desire to make your lifestyle healthier!
*Please note that bicycling or recumbent bike mileage will not be counted in this campaign, but we’ll work on having a biking challenge related to David after the “I’d Walk 1000 Miles For David Archuleta” campaign. All you bikers, please join us with walking or running if you can.

Special feature: Beautiful inside and out
Since we are reflecting on past years, this is a perfect time to pull out a piece from NewAngel. From May 1, 2009
I was at the grocery store today, buying ingredients to make panini sandwiches (which you can make in your waffle maker BTW, you don’t need a panini press…) and what should I see at the checkout but the latest issue of People magazine, the “Most Beautiful People” issue. I think it used to be the “50 Most Beautiful People” issue, but now, evidently, there are far too many beautiful people in the entertainment world to narrow it down to a mere 50. Anyway, I’m sure you know where I’m going with this…
Guess who was NOT on the cover where he rightly belonged? Guess who was not in the “Under 21″ section with all the Disney kids or in the “beautiful smiles” section or the section for beautiful people with moles, or beautiful eyes or teeth, or those who are beautiful without makeup (hello Kara DioGuardi. I can only imagine how this went down with her publicist: “Good news, Kara! People magazine wants you for their Beautiful People issue! Yay! Bad news: They want you to pose without makeup!” Not that she’s not lovely, but, heck, if I’d worked my booty off to succeed in show business and my triumphant “I’ve arrived” moment had me looking like, well, a normal, average mall-walker from the ‘burbs, I’d be pretty ticked off. But that’s just me. And no one’s asked me to be in their most beautiful issue. So, David Archuleta and I have something in common. Finally.)
No, actually, I’m going to give People the benefit of the doubt here and assume they DID ask him. And he was just too modest and did that whole, “Awww, I think I’m funny-looking” routine. You know, that whole “I can barely stand to look at myself, I avoid mirrors, I used to hide from cameras, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah…” thing. Or, maybe he was confused and thought they tapping him for the “Sexiest Man Alive” or “Most Eligible Bachelor” issue and we know how he’d feel about either of those. So yeah. They asked and he turned them down.
OR, they’re complete MORONS over there at People. Maybe they’re not exactly sure WHAT the word “beautiful” means. Because, no offense, but I saw quite a few celebs in there that I’d classify as “cute” or “pretty” or even “quirky” or “interesting-looking” and one or two “say whaaaaaat?” types. Not gonna name names– check the issue out for yourself. But “Beauty.” “Beautiful.” Those words hold one to a higher standard. There are people you think, yeah, they’re nice-looking and then there are people who make you stop and stare, draw your breath in sharply and kinda go “ohhh-ohhh-ohhh” in a jagged little way. They make you ache they’re so perfect and flawless and just ohhhhhh.
And it has a lot to do with their personality, their character, their being, their very SOUL. Because if you see someone who is beautiful on the outside but you know they throw phones at their assistant or their maid, or they cheated on their spouse and left their kids to run off with someone decades younger, or they have a mouth like a truck driver and you can’t take them anywhere without them getting soused or strung-out, or they don’t bathe often enough and they look it, or they’re stuck on themselves, or surgically enhanced beyond comic book proportions, or whatever… well, it just sort of ruins the picture, doesn’t it?
They’re the “in spite of” types.
But David Archuleta.
Oh, David Archuleta is beautiful.
If I had to choose one word to describe him it would be beautiful. In every sense of the word. As in, nice-looking, handsome, pleasing to the eye. As in flawless skin, amazing, sparkling eyes, dazzling smile, fresh-scrubbed-ness”… and so on. But also, (and more importantly) as in glowing, lit from within, swallowed an incandescent lightbulb somewhere along the line, surrounded by some nearly tangible, memory-zapping aura of glowy glowiness. As in, kind, caring, concerned about others, sweet, humble, joyful, goodness. Beautiful.
So, People magazine, it’s your loss.
You missed the boat. This year.
I KNOW you’ve seen him because he was in your magazine before. Maybe your reporter was severely nearsighted. Or nearly dead. Or mentally ill? I’m trying to go easy on you. That’s what a truly beautiful person like David would want me to do.
If you’re saving him for a special collector’s issue or devoting extensive coverage to him in the near future, I apologize.
Otherwise, 2010 cover boy.
(And heads’ up– print extra copies.)
Thanks NewAngel. As we reflect over the past years, your words have never been truer.
I thought I would put together, for NewAngel, and anyone else who cares to ponder, an idea of what a 2012 cover would look like. Like NA said, only a matter of time
~ special thanks to @archugeezer for the submission idea teehee.
