In case you missed it and the reverberations from it, @davidarchie, @kariontour and the OS team posted a snippet of the BEGIN. cover that got the most “PLEASE PLEASE SHARE” ‘s yesterday (and also #1 on our fun poll). David asked us what we wanted to hear, and you responded. How’s that for cause and effect!

Here’s my thoughts on 20 seconds. Loved what I heard, but I really loved the anticipation of what I heard. I get excited just KNOWING that I am going to listen to those rich, strong vocals. David is masterful at giving a song his take without over-singing it, or changing it up too much. He has too much respect for the original versions. I found this arrangement to be more uplifting than the Keane original too, but craving to hear more.
And about that MORE, for what it’s worth, I would not mind a longer snippet. The Other Side of Down preview snippet in 2010 was a good length, and I just remember how sweet it was to hear it. Mind you, it was a brand new song, but all songs are new when David Archuleta sings them. Anyway, just ML’s musings lol .

Jack Everly served as music director following the death of Erich Kunzel. Jimmy Smits again hosted, and pointed out that A Capitol Fourth was celebrating its 30th anniversary. Schneider paid tribute to Kunzel, finishing his performance by embracing Kunzel’s Austrian wife of 44 years, Brunhilde, who was in attendance.

I’m so impressed with the level of excellence I’ve experienced since being asked to participate in “A Capitol Fourth”. I’m especially impressed with the very polite, well-mannered, and delightful David Archuleta. No arrogance or swelled head with this young man. I’m also happy I had a chance to meet his mom, Lupe. It’s funny. All three of us background singers are old enough to be his mom! My own daughter is 10 years older than David. As old school as I am, it is SO refreshing that, in spite of his notoriety, he demonstrates such respect for his mom. That respect, then, carries over to everyone else he meets. He has been so gracious to all of us. God knows I can’t stand, and don’t have patience for bratty, smart-mouthed, disrespectful, kids who have been informed of their rights but not the responsibilities that go along with them. David is a breath of fresh air, and I pray that he doesn’t allow the trappings of fame to chip away at the standards that Lupe has clearly set. I can’t say it enough. Good home training goes a long way.

Sweet David DREAM last night….Went to Rancangua and saw D at an informal meeting and this how it went…hehe….
–he is learning to be right-handed when writing
–he apologized for the weird way he’s talking in English bec. he has to talk Spanish most of the time
–he started talking louder cuz he got excited seeing a fan visit him, so I had to tell him to tone it down LOL
–he is now wearing stylish frameless reading glasses…haha…
–told him lots of fans will see the Devotional & informed them they will behave there…he said they might not see him well because the lights will be dimmed…so I told him the staff might use a spotlight so peeps can see him!…(he gave me a strange look)
–he said I should be a missionary and I asked why….he said so I could get a discounted fare ticket each time I go there to visit!
Was gonna tell him how the fandom is doing without him but my dream went POOFED! (It was already 7:30 a.m.)

Anyone going to the stadium of fire this year, bring your binoculars. Girl Scouts of Utah is going to do the flag ceremony (a few hundred girls). They will be bringing in the US flag, the state flags and 100 year birthday for Girl Scouts flags. The little Brownie and Daisy girls will stay on the field and girls Junior and older (4th grade and older) will sing the National Anthem on stage with a choir. That I know of, 3 of my girls will be there, maybe more. Look for their troop number on their vests or sashes. Troop 1010 are my Girl Scouts. I know of one Brownie, Cassidy (brown vest or sash), one Junior, Michelle (green sash/vest) and one Cadette, Kelsey (Khaki vest/sash). Kelsey might be easiest to spot, she’s wearing a khaki skirt, white shirt and her khaki vest.

Sarah, the smoke haze is from the fires here in Utah. There’s one in the hills and mountains above Alpine, here in Utah County. Almost 3,000 acres burned already. Last I heard it hadn’t been contained. Went outside earlier and can’t smell the smoke though. The news report said the smoke is blowing the direction of SLC. We’ve had 9 bad wildfires in the past couple weeks.

Dave said he’ll make sure of it for me. He was one of the nurses up at our Camporee. Heat exhaustion was the number one problem he treated with bee stings. I’m sure they’ll have fun. My oldest Girl Scout Hope (she just graduated from HS) will be there too so she is good at being a leader herself. She’ll help Dave out for me. I shared other pics on my FB wall too. Those are the only two with my GS in them so far. He’ll take more pics of them tonight and hopefully a group pic.

Great news from Wisconsin. There was a 5 year old boy with autism missing for over 21 hours out in this heat, a ton of volunteers looking for him & a guy with his 8 year old golden retriever named Autumn found him
A few mosquito bites & needed some water, otherwise he’s doing fine. Tough little guy, so glad they found him 
Hope Candy is doing ok with the parade today. Looks like its very hot there, hope everyone has plenty of water & they are taking care of themselves.

Beth, i don’t blame you bieng mad at mother nature. she hasn’t been very cooperative lately and lots of people are having it bad right now. Here in the low Desert we are in the 88 degree. Very strange, we will be up to 110 by sun. Usually we are 118 or lower. Its getting humid now. But I’m more concern about the people who are having it a lot worst. My prayers for them.
Hey Linda! I agree. Its pretty tough out there for alot of people. The damage we had in Duluth, MN is over $100 million, plus damage elsewhere. But the east, lots of damage from storms & the heat. Hope everyone can stay cool.

Is anyone else not having fireworks this year? We’re in a drought, so ours were cancelled due to high fire danger. It’s been stinkin’ hot here, too…just like it has been for soooo many people. Seems like the weather’s been crazy in one way or another for everyone this year. Glad you got your power back, Candy!

July 4th 2011 we were in Queen Creek AZ and it was about 115 degrees but the day before it was 120 degrees with dust storm. Dry heat though…..no humidity.
I hate humidity.

Hi josie, they’re having fireworks in Atlantic City, they shoot they off from barges that are about a 1/2 mile off shore, the ocean and boardwalk make a great backdrop for the event.

Oooh, the Atlantic City fireworks sound beautiful! I used to live on a lake, & the fireworks were shot off of a boat, but that’s small stuff compared to the boardwalk & ocean.

Hey all…Hope everyone had a blast this 4th of July….Just got home from watching fireworks at Colonial Downs racetrack where my son works this summer……Twas a full moon….Enjoying watching all the David videos of 4th of July past with David….Miss him so much….He sure can sing patriotic songs better than anyone else……BTW where was the fan dinner at Thaifoon?????? Happy fourth to all of you lovely people! So reflecting back to a year ago at the Stadium of Fire events. Thank you so much for posting those memorable pics and vids. The day before the concert is when I had just flown into the SLC airport and lol and behold guess who was standing just outside the baggage claim door but Mr. Archuleta and his band! Thanks to my brave and bold husband I got a picture with him and the band and I’ll never forget it! He was so kind to take the time (and our camera was acting up) despite the fact he was on his way down to Provo to start rehearsals. Such a great day!
