25 Most Memorable Performances in ‘American Idol’ History: Videos

on air with ryan best idol performances

From RyanSeacrest.com Click here to go directly to the site.  And, you guessed it, Imagine is one of the top 25!

And click below to go to David’s beautiful interpretation!

imagine season 7

I’m reminded of what Dean Kaelin said in the Called to Serve video (Permalink above and here) about David singing this song.  David said he was not aiming to be “technically perfect” when he sang it, but to invoke a feeling for those who listened to it.  Now THAT is greatness!

AMERICAN IDOL starts this week on Wednesday.  Who is watching and who had turned it off long ago (this might make for a good poll, maybe?).  Hoping for a renewed focus on the contestants and their dreams, less on the judges (American Idol Season 7 was a very good benchmark year!).

Who knew?

Obviously, this man did!  File this under “just for fun” but listen to how accurately Authur C. Clarke predicted our habits and capabilities with respect to computing.  Freaky!!  I found this on Lisa Murray’s Facebook Timeline

Doing this mini post after being up for 22 hours straight, so forgive the brevity and lack of substance :(   I just have enough time to wave hello during a brief drive-by and say I’ll see you next week!

    OMGOSH!!

lol was just looking at houses in Bonney Lake it is south of Seattle!
    IT IS A SIGN!!

Sumner district students to sing with national choir
    Bonney Lake and Sumner Courier-Herald
David Archuleta from American Idol will also be there during the final performance. Emma’s mom will be chaperoning the trip and Emma hopes they …
    http://www.blscourierherald.com/news/287582031.html

The American Choral Directors Association was founded in 1959 and holds a annual national conference.

This year 308 girls were selected to the national honor choir and will travel to Salt Lake City in late February.

Selected to participate in the four-day conference are a pair of eighth graders from Mountain View Middle School and a ninth grade student from Bonney Lake High School.

Emma Crick and Queency Robinson were chosen out of more than 3,300 applicants nationwide.

Both girls have been performing since they were young.

Emma said she has been singing for most of her life.

On the final day, she said, all the singers will perform together with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

David Archuleta from American Idol will also be there during the final performance. :D

    • Candy says:

Is this an LDS event or open to anyone?

      • Ali says:

It’s for choirs. Not LDS-specific. The conference moves around the country to a different location each year and just happens to be in Salt Lake this year.

    • Ali says:

Thanks for the article, kim! ACDA posted a video last summer detailing plans for the conference and included a picture of David as one of the artists invited to perform/participate in the big finale. I think they mentioned something about it being the world’s largest community sing?
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zLE_Qa-QcQ

      • kimk says:

hmm.. would imagine they want folks to go see the choirs no?

wow didn’t see that hope he goes for it!! :)

        • Pastel says:

Hi Kim and Ali, I posted the youtube link a few weeks back which said David was “invited” but no confirmation. I’m sure David gets alot of invitations but perhaps his name is still on the programme. Hey, maybe he just recently accepted, who knows lol! When it’s confirmed, I’m sure we’ll hear via the OS. :) :)

  5. josie says:

Hi. A quick drive-by post…Mary Dee~ I answered your question on the last thread. :)

  6. Candy says:

Hitandrun- I admire your honesty (and tenacity) in asking a question, knowing that it could bring a barrage of tomatoes! To be honest I dont have an answer, been sitting here waiting for three years to hear David again…so I guess the question for me becomes how much longer will I wait. On one hand I am seeing signs that give me hope, from Davids lips to my ears, and yet there continues to be the lingering question…will this hope be a tour, a secular song, music I am interested in. Sure some of what he has done since his return has been great to listen to (Glorious) But most has been religious in nature. So like many others I wait…thank heavens for the other faithful fans and our MODS who fill the void with wonderful posts!! If it wasnt for them, I probably would have flown the coop a while ago.

  7. Frances Francois says:

It’s cute thank u for all the hard work u do just like us we love archie to so anything you put up is special no matter how big or small.

  8. Marylee~NCGirl says:

In reply to HitandRun, I would have to think long and hard for an answer to your thoughtful question from last night, which I found just before signing off my Ipad. Naturally, after following David since Idol, it is only expected that there are questions floating around in my head. If I denied it, I wouldn’t be honest with myself or with others. I just want to reiterate that, no matter what each of us are feeling since his return, these are valid reactions…each one as individual and real as any other. The one sad thing I happen to notice is that there are those who are not accepting of that fact. We need to understand that there has been a lasting investment in this fandom. in David’s journey…and each supporter has their own way of dealing with the changes that are taking place. OK, Time to sign off when I begin to ramble ~ so much more I could say, because just like you, I have given this great thought.

Have a great week you guys and to those who have snow in your area, stay safe! :)

    • Candy says:

Well said Marylee, I too notice there are fans who dont or for some reason wont accept that others are expressing (or trying to express ) how they feel…why that is considered unacceptable, I dont understand. Their reaction is just as valid and just as valuable as anyone elses.

      • Marylee~NCGirl says:

Exactly, Candy! Was just wondering..if I berated someone because they are optimistic and elated about what 2015 is to bring, would that be fair? I would hope to be happy for that person and, just because another fan is not quite there yet, does that make them a bad fan? Is there only ONE way that is the RIGHT way?

  9. kimk says:

not sure what the question was.. thing is for me and my situation I don’t think I will be able to travel so unless David comes to the city I live in might never see him live again which is pretty lame but way it is. (thank goodness for videos!)
as for being here enjoying David etc.. I guess if things stay as they are I might get bored eventually and move on?
not there yet still care about all this and especially Archupeeps maybe even more the latter.

kind of think he will do both things though eventually.. wishing hoping dreaming he will anyway.

    • Candy says:

Same here kim, not at that point, still love his music, all the fans here, and like you am wishing, hoping and dreaming. :)

    • Marylee~NCGirl says:

Kim, the comment I was addressing was from HitandRun from very late last night. I was way too tired to offer a reply at that time. It was a very thoughtful post which I felt deserved some acknowledgement.

      • Hitandrun says:

Thank you Marylee. I think some people thought my post was from someone just trying to stir up trouble so I didn’t expect anyone would follow up with an answer today. I appreciate that you were kind enough to give it some thought and post a response. I guess I just need to know if there are others like me who are wondering what next year will bring and what they will do if it brings very little or nothing at all towards David’s career.

  10. Martha says:

I hope she doesn’t mind, but Canadian Archie left a comment at 1:40 am on the last thread that I feel is worth reading again:

“I love Taylor’s song “Shake It Off” .. If anyone has learned how to handle hate Taylor has, she’s experienced it, and wrote a song about it. For probably the first time David has taken control of his life, and enjoys what he’s doing. He loved us, he tweeted us, blogged consistently, toured, made us beautiful music, albums. He loves God, and lives for God more than ever, after his eyes were opened during his mission. God’s work is first and he’s focusing on his personal endeavors, family, friendships, life, and all those things he put to the side since 2008. Things will fall into place. I’ll definitely be here and ready for the music!”

This is a very concise observation which is mostly likely is close to the truth in my opinion. “Things will fall into place.”

    • Marylee~NCGirl says:

I guess I just feel the need to add one more aspect to Cindy’s thoughtful post. She knows I think she’s a loyal fan~ we go back a long way & I love her perspective on all things David ~ I just wanted to add that it is important to remember that nearly 3 years have gone by since David left and here we are~ still waiting because we were encouraged to …and, IMHO, that is at the heart of every Archie ..well, most. Because, at the risk of repeating myself, it’s human nature.

  11. Marylee~NCGirl says:

Above all else, I’m doing my best to open my eyes, be fair in the understanding of each Archie’s thoughts…and applaud David’s decisions because they are HIS decisions wherever they take him in the future. Over the years, I have said many times that his happiness is important to me as a fan~ I doubt that will ever change.

    Well said, André

  14. kimk says:

ahh there he goes talking in code again.. first thing it reminded me of my son who works for FB.. PHD has a baby on the way this spring yet has signed up for a boat race from California to Alaska and well he is not really one who has done that all that much.
    adventurer..
of course I went off on him will be here for his wife if something happens to him.. anyway
where David is concerned I’m all for the direct approach.. say what is up or is it like Brooke and David’s song string folks along so they buy?
got me.. would hate to think David is devious like that.

    • Mary Dee says:

LOL to devious David :D :D

    • Candy says:

Code speak seems to be the new normal for David.
kimk-when you think about it, the church does the same thing, uses Davids popularity to reach new people. It works for them and for fans that are interested it works for them too. Im a shoot from the hip kind of person, guess that is why at times I find myself frustrated( and exasperated) with Davids randomness.

      • kimk says:

noticed that a while ago.. beat around the bush seems to be easier for some I suppose.
like his mission announcement anyway whatever it is could be school, no regular music, getting married, YT channel.. rock climbing. who knows.
they have two guys on TV scaling with just their hands a mountain this morning in Yosemite.. my crazy son did stuff like that too.
bought him a ton of safety equipment after I found out.
used to it funny thing is if I did the same thing as him he’d try and lock me up.

        • Candy says:

wonder if Joanie W. is climbing with the guys on Yosemite. She is a hoot, a rock climbing, adventurous kind of gal!

    • angelbymyside says:

“String folks along so they buy?” WHAT?? What direct approach would you want David to have about the song he wrote for Brooke? It wasn’t his project!

  15. Good morning everyone!
Pastel thank you for the hit & run post!
I too am passing by on a hit & run to say Good morning!

I really enjoyed reading the comments this morning!
I relate to some of them! David is exploring life right now, it’s up to us as individuals to stick by him or leave

There is more of David & his music in the future!
Off to work! Have a good one! stay safe & warm!

  16. Mary Dee says:

Good morning FOD folks :) AI to start new season tomorrow! I have not been watching AI since Archie’s season. I’d peek every now and then but not like Clay and David’s when I waited excitedly every week to see their performances. I wonder if they’ll have a special show where they’ll air the 25 best performances that they picked. Will definitely sit down to wait for David’s part :D

Speaking of, Archie Radio will broadcast David’s AI journey tonight at 9pm eastern/6pm pacific. It will include all of his performances and interviews that he did on the show. Of course we know which David won (Archie ;) ) but it’d be nice to walk down memory lane and relive those special moments, for me at least. Here’s the link if anyone’s interested :)

  17. Candy says:

    random tweet=can of worms!!!

  18. kimk says:

ha well he might have classes tomorrow.. my son does.. who knows he is going to school to become a doctor? rofl whateven.

    • Candy says:

LOL-I do find it kind of amusing we all sit here trying to decipher his tweets! Come to think of it, he did say once “if this music things doesnt work out, he could become an ENT Doctor.”

      • Marylee~NCGirl says:

“the music thing” was and STILL is his for the taking..wonder where that fits into his latest tweet? Gosh, this is hard. No tomatoes, pls.

      • Forevermore says:

If ever David becomes a doctor that would be great! Lol… I would be a doctor by time he is in med proper (hoping and working hard for that) LOL! I would apply for an internship in his hospital so that I’ll be able to handle him when he becomes a Junior Intern :))))

Imagine me asking pressuring questions to him while he’s relaying to me the patient’s history “Okay doc Archuleta, let me ask you some basics… What are the cardinal signs of inflammation? Where is the ligament of treitz anatomically located? What is your favorite thai dish? How’s your mom Lupe? Will you sing ‘stand by me’ for me again… It will be good for the patient too you know…”

        LMAO!

  19. Ali says:

David’s random and rather vague quote tweets are nothing new lol.

There are so many ways to interpret that. I suspect fans will naturally view whichever perspective matches their current leanings. If they’re feeling that David is moving away from his career, then they will see the tweet as his way of saying that. If they’re feeling that David is ready to take a bigger step back into the music industry, then they will see that tweet as his way of saying THAT. Heck, maybe he’s just trying to convince himself to order something other than his favorite dish at the local Thai restaurant ;)

    • Candy says:

ROTF Ali- Favorite Thai dish. Also very very true about a fans view matching how they are seeing things at the moment. What was the name of that song “Muddy Waters”

    • cq says:

ROFL, Ali by far the best interpretation of the quote as to what David was trying to convey: he’s just trying to convince himself to order something other than his favorite dish at the local Thai restaurant ;)

  21. angelbymyside says:

Kimk ~ Do you actually think David could ever be devious?? lol

    • kimk says:

I think everyone can be.. not saying what you really mean or is the truth.. like what went on with that world record and them implying David would be there.
now there is always what goes on with yourself like when you look in the mirror for example and you don’t see you are 50 lbs overweight etc.
kind of like that Tom Cruise movie line.. ‘you can’t handle the truth’
David knew he was going on a mission for a while IE that ‘hack’.. kind of like that I suppose.
David likes to do this I get it.. just not receptive to it kind of think it is childish.

      • Marylee~NCGirl says:

lol not sure what being 50 lbs over weight has to do with David not being upfront with us ~ guess that analogy hit a nerve. ouch!
That being said, I think anyone has the ability to mislead if one feels it serves a purpose..we are human, afterall.

        • kimk says:

ha was really referring to Marie Osmond and her commercials for Weight watchers.. kind of like not seeing what is really there or that bothers you so you don’t look? me it’s my hubs and his health.. had to open my eyes lately and see what is really going on. hard but thing is if you at least try and see you are a success. maybe that is what is going on with David?
now lol you look cute as I remember you by the way. :)

      • angelbymyside says:

Well I guess ANYONE can be indirect if it suits their purpose, but characterizing David as “devious” is not something I associate with his character.

        • kimk says:

think I said like with the Brook song.. that is how I felt yes it was her project her song her voice why attach David to it then? to sell.

        • Marylee~NCGirl says:

Just found your reply as I was signing off, Kim. I am experiencing the same thing with my huhs. He is having a series of tests lately and am naturally concerned so I do identify with what you are saying. Thanks for the compliment ~ it’s been a while so I have some work to do. :)

    • josie says:

Yes. Oh wait. I’m not Kimk. :)

  22. Marylee~NCGirl says:

Something, even earlier this morning before he tweeted, had me wondering about stuff. I’m more confused than ever. My brain is fried lol and ugh!

  23. Marylee~NCGirl says:

Time for me to get some stuff done. It comes as no surprise to y’all, I’m sure that I woke up with alot on my mind and it helped to vent haha. I did enjoy hearing what everyone had to say ~ guess it’s back to that human nature thing again ~ my story and stickin’ to it!

  24. angelbymyside says:

Kimk ~ The purpose of Brooke’s project was to raise money for a worthy cause. David’s name wasn’t the only name attached to the project…it was a project done in conjunction with her musician friends. David lent his voice and co-wrote the song with Brooke to help a friend and raise money for the charity.

    • kimk says:

true that is correct.. so what you are saying it is ok to fudge for a worthy cause?

      • Ali says:

I’m a little confused on this one. What was fudged about David being part of the project?

      • angelbymyside says:

Not sure what you think was “fudged”? Do you think that Brooke misled the public about David’s role in the project? It was a collaborative project. Is there something wrong with that?

  25. ray says:

people ten to judge others by themselves, hense some of you are devious,

    • Candy says:

Ive known some really pretty people that were really ugly inside. Yet they were convinced they were the cats meow with everything they said and did. So were they devious or just fooling themselves?? #Judgementcall

  26. kimk says:

no matter what the cause good or not don’t see it as the thing to do but hey we all do it
where Brooke is concerned not a fan of hers from when they were on stage for Let It Be. thought she was pushy.
not being devious at all here just saying what I see or feel think more just like why I suppose? anyway
kind of think something is up with David besides music that is.
been around too long not to see stuff.
oh and ha that was a Davidism.

  27. Tami Lyn says:

I would like to understand why David has such a hard time being direct with us. Maybe he really enjoys messing with us. It,s possible, he is a human being after all, not a saint, even tho I think he tries hard to be as good as humanly possible maybe these vague tweets are his only way to have fun online. ???

    • Candy says:

Hey Tami- Out of curiosity I decided to make the rounds today and visit other sites to see what the feel is as far as the fandom is concerned. The same thing that is being discussed here is being discussed on The Voice, Snowangelz, and SD. So its not just us, many many fans are expressing the same thoughts, concerns.

  28. Tami Lyn says:

Candy~ yeah I think everyone is wondering what is going on with David and why he and Gina refuse to respond to fans’ tweets. I think all celebs could take a lesson from Taylor swift insofar as the awesome way she treats her fans and actually communicates with them in groups and one on one.

    • cq says:

I don’t understand your reasoning for these tweets. I tend to agree with Tami Lyn, nothing to do with music. What fans are wanting more than any quote is news about his music, so bringing over all these quotes to me just doesn’t make sense.

      • Janel aka Nellie says:

Because I keep a record of them. No other reason and no harm in me sharing them.

        • cq says:

You are so right no harm, just being that todays quote had mixed feelings coming from fans, so seeing all these quote without any of them being about music, imo, adds to the fire.

  30. Tami Lyn says:

While those are wonderful tweets Janet he is not talking to us directly about his specific music plans and I think a long time faithful fans we deserve to know his plans for this year.

  31. Tami Lyn says:

    Oops sorry
    , meant
    Janel!

  32. BELIEVE says:

Maybe David has some personal reasons for this tweet. His cousin is going into the MTC to become a missionary. Maybe she is already there? Might this be something he wants to tweet her or other missionaries at the training center?

As long as there is a fansite, I will be checking news about David. I do feel strongly that music is the blood running through David’s veins. He has a gift that he feels (and so do I) is a gift from God. I do feel that he will always try to share his gift in some way. I am open to however he decides to share it. I have missed terribly his music and his performing, but I am adjusting my expectations. David’s happiness is more important than my own. He seems very happy having balance in his life. Only David can and will decide the recipe for his own happiness. I do feel that “giving to others” is somewhere in that recipe though. I will always be a David fan….even if he never performs again.(which I don’t expect) . I know that he will be touching peoples’ lives in some way always through his music or his heart. I am not only inspired by his music, but am inspired by his selection of quotes. I love them!!!

By the way, I love that FOD has quotes at the top of the front page each day. That is a wonderful positive way to start each day. Thank you to all the wonderful MODS for all you do. FOD is a happy positive place. I also LOVE all the wonderful DA pictures that the fans share.

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

I believe she enters the MTC tomorrow, but not positive. My nephew enters the MTC on my 50th birthday, next Wednesday.

If I was David,s manager I would tell him to follow 10 people each day on twitter and respond to 10 tweets every day. Such a simple thing and what excitement it would cause in this dying fandom!!

  35. Janel aka Nellie says:

Not trying to prove anything with sharing the quote tweets and food tweets. I just happen to keep track of them. I have since 2010 and share them at the end of each year. This isn’t new. Not trying to say “see David tweets” or anything like that. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. If you don’t want me here, just say so and I’m gone. Geez!

    • cq says:

Janel, I’m sorry. I guess I’m just a little weary of waiting for music news from David, so seeing all those in a row, just got to me. If anyone should go is me, lol. You absolutely belong here in this fabulous fan site posting. Hope you never stop.

    • Mary Dee says:

I love them :) I didn’t realize how frequently David has been tweeting until I looked at the dates. Well, not everyday but pretty frequent. At least one or two in a week. Can you post David’s music tweets too :)

      • Janel aka Nellie says:

Didn’t keep track of them. I’d have to go back through his tweets.

        • Mary Dee says:

oh it’s okay. There are some pretty memorable ones such as a picture of his hand on the piano keys, an early morning Skype writing session, lots of pics with various songwriters, an excited tweet about writing from his heart, tweets from nashville, and the one posted in yesterday’s post about writing his first spanish song. And oh the twitter party with fans saying he’s writing pop and spanish songs, watching world cup and recording, etc. There’s just so many :)

    • Martha says:

Janel – Sorry, that’s what I thought you were doing too: listing everything on twitter David has done or indirectly done as a part of the previous discussion so I can see the misunderstanding.

I too wish he would talk about his career in addition to food, IG pics, etc. even though I like those. I can do without the quotes. I would rather him state his feelings in his own words. But that’s just me. It’s his account, he can do what he wants.

  36. angelbymyside says:

So now every artist has to be like Taylor Swift to have the “awesome” label attached to them??

  37. Tami Lyn says:

Taylor is a superstar and if she has the time to do these things for her fans than what excuse do other singers have for not communicating with fans. Maybe they want to do music but not have to “deal with” their “fans”. Then how to they expect to sell their music? No fans= no career.

    • Marina says:

I don’t think there needs to be an “excuse”. Artists are different. Some of them communicate a lot (Taylor is an example of this) and some of them communicate very little (Adele is an example of this). The amount of communication does not equal how good an artist is or even how popular they are. And, yes, I know that working hard to involve your fan base is just good business but it’s not the end-all, be-all of a career. There are plenty of artists who communicate tons and have rather small careers just as there are artists who communicate little and have very large careers.

The age of fans feeling entitled to have an artist share everything with them (personal life, career decisions, what’s for dinner) is very recent. I’m still not sure if it’s a good thing or not. I’ll be the first to admit that I love the pics that David shares and really have enjoyed the vlogs and tweets. But I also feel like it does broaden the likelihood that fans build a feeling of entitlement when it comes to things of this sort and I’m not so sure that’s for the best.

      • Candy says:

Marina- For me, it’s not a feeling of entitlement, its more about what used to be, missing that communication and adjusting to the new norm of random, infrequent and not career related tweets.

        • Marina says:

Candy – I totally get what you’re saying and, as I mentioned, I am with you in missing the vlogs and all the tweets that we used to get. My statement was more about the changes as a whole, not just with David, given the surge in social media and the new expectation that artists and celebs of all sorts share much with their followers. Some artists have embraced that and some have rejected it and obviously some are still finding that middle ground. I’m still personally uncertain how I feel about it. I can’t deny that I selfishly enjoy when David shares things but I also wonder what it must be like overall for those celebs to now be trying to decide how much they want to share and balance it with expectations. Every individual has a different outlook on that, I guess.

      • Martha says:

So true. Unfortunately for him, David set a precedent of making the fans feel they were just short of family. And now, as stated above, “his eyes were opened on his mission” and he no longer feels this way. Of course, some fans feelings haven’t changed. So here we are, having this discussion.

        • Lucy says:

Are you guys saying that you think David doesn’t care about his fans like he did before? I don’t believe that for a second, so just because he doesn’t constantly communicate with us like before, he cares less. Or am I reading you guys wrong?

        • Marylee~NCGirl says:

~ nail on the head! It’s what went before that brings us here.

        • Marylee~NCGirl says:

My last post did not appear under Martha’s comment, but that is who it was meant for. :)

        • Archie_fan says:

True. David archuleta is the only artist I’ve been a fan of, supported and cared about. Before he left the mission, it felt like he was a friend. He kept us posted about new music, how he was doing and all. But, when he came back, he only communicates when he needs support in something. Maybe he hates technology now, or has a girlfriend? I don’t want to think bad things, but I can help but feel upset and wonder, why? I know he doesn’t owe anyone any explanation, but it’s thanks to fans supporting him , that he became famous and is able to do all these church-related activities.

  38. Anne-Marie says:

Hi guys…just checking in quickly before heading home from work. I guess I don’t understand the angst over that quote David tweeted. As with all of the other quotes which Janel posted, I take it as it’s something he read/saw, liked it and shared. Not going to to read into anything or try to analyze it. As far as his music career goes, he loves singing and performing and from what I remember him saying when he first got back from his mission, he is taking his time to do things right for himself, his career and and his fans. Just my opinion but I think he tends to be a perfectionist with himself and just wants to do things which he feels is right and not have someone telling him what to do which I think is what happened before. Trust me, I get the frustration because I’ve been there. Do I want to see and hear him perform? Absolutely!! Do I wish for more communication? Sure! But I’ve learned to accept that he is working on it but it might be a little longer than expected. I’m okay with that. Maybe he’s still trying to figure out what his sound is going to be, etc. In the meantime, I’m so looking forward to the Spanish song coming out soon! :)

  39. Lucy says:

Hasn’t David been tweeting us these quotes for years? I too just think he comes across these quotes, likes them and wants to share them, not much more to it than that. Maybe they sometimes fit what’s going on in his life at the moment, idk, I think that we are all a bit info deprived that some want to analyze his to quotes to try and figure out what’s in his head lately. He’ll tell us something when he has something to tell, could be he’s been working on things and he will share when he’s ready.

    • Anne-Marie says:

I agree Lucy. Like I mentioned before, I get the feeling David likes to have all his ducks in a row so to speak, before he says anything. It makes me remember a few times when he made appearances at different places and fans would ask him to sing a certain song(s) and he would say something like “well I didn’t prepare that” or he would ask fans what they wanted him to sing and it would take him a little while before he would decide on something. Just my thoughts but I think he likes to plan and prepare ahead of time. I so get that because I’m like in my teaching career. Lol. It takes me a long time to plan my lessons and even longer when it’s a concept I’m unfamiliar with. I so admire teachers that can think on their feet or are just able to plan quickly. My brain just doesn’t work like that. It’s one reason I could never sub in all grades because with subbing, you have to go in, read the teacher’s plans (and sometimes there aren’t any) and just teach the material with little knowledge of the concepts or skills. Okay so that was a long winded response! Wew!

      • josie says:

Oh my gosh. I thought I was the only person like that. Welcome to the “Don’t You Dare Spring Things On Me at the Last Minute” Club. ha.

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

In 2010 at MOTABS during the CD signing I gave him a booklet I made/handstamped with his quote tweets. I passed it around at the restaurant we ate at for lunch the first day of MOTABS for the fans to see. Not sure if anyone remembers it.

  40. chocolata says:

As a fan for life I have learned to step back and live my life happily and find other artists to enjoy while David makes up his mind. No criticism of any of those who are daily involved, just my road to making it easy for myself as I have no control of David.

I hope I get to enjoy secular music again but if not, I am happy David will find his happiness with his church music and I will find secular music to enjoy

I was very sad when David stopped his usual communication with fans but he is himself and if he doesn’t like to communicate I must accept it. I can’t predict the future but will say if he does a new pop music CD, fans will come back I think.

  41. Mary Dee says:

David’s Forevermore mv has close to 3M views. I was surprised to see movement on the view number. I guess some peeps are watching it again after it was briefly played on a tv show in the Phils :) This song is very special to me and I will be forever thankful to David for recording this song :)

I LOVE his Forevermore album MaryDee!! It helped me get through a very difficult time when my mother was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and was in the hospital for a month and dealing with many complications. It was very soothing to listen to. :)

  42. Alwaysafan says:

He hasn’t stopped communication, just slowed a bit! If some of you are so dissatisfied with David, just move on to someone else then, maybe someone who will work on your time tables, do what you want to them to do when you want them to do it. So what if he doesn’t tweet and vlog as often, he want to do things his way this time around and it may take more time, BUT HE IS WORTH THE WAIT!

    • ray says:

right on there alwaysafan, i also agree with lucy,andanne-marie

      • Candy says:

Always, who said they were dissatisfied with David, I sure didnt see that posted anywhere. I see fans saying they are scaling their ODD back a bit, how that gets twisted to being dissatisfied I just dont get.
Lucy-you are definitely reading me wrong, the only one I have seen making a comment anywhere close is IMO and for personal reasons I cut her some slack.
Sometimes I feel like none of us speak the same language, or is it a case of quick to respond before thinking about what the person is trying to say.

    • Anne-Marie says:

      He most certainly is!! :)

    • Hitandrun says:

As usual, and the way it has always been, if you don’t support David in the approved way you are not welcome in the fandom. I have come to expect this whenever fans dare to express their honest confusion or disappointment in the direction David seems to be taking his singing career or non-career.

      • Jani says:

Hit and run, I don’t see where anyone says folks aren’t welcome if they see things differently. I sure wouldn’t be here, if that are the case, lol. I think online communication is frought with hazards. It is so hard to say what you mean with the right feelings behind it…at least it is for me. As for you question yesterday, (and I thought it was a thoughtful, honest question,) I wonder, if David doesn’t do more career related stuff this year than last, will there be fan sites to come to? Will people hang around? I sure hope so. I will always be a fan, but will of course scale back expectations and involvement (there is much else in life!) if there isn’t anything to talk about, or fan sites to come to…..hoping that won’t be the case….and don’t think it will. I don’t think expressing disappointment means someone isn’t welcome or a good fan. I like keeping a positive outlook on it all….but that’s just me. We’re all different….lol…understement! Rambling here……

None of this is criticism of David, just observations. I happen to recognize people lead their lives as they see fit. This forum is a place to express feelings and thoughts without guilt trips. He’s a wonderful person and great singer. I am a big fan! Trust me! I also like Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, and others. My playlist is a mixture. I hope I don’t have to apologize for this. I have to say I have everything David has put out, but the others, I don’t. I will continue to look for and be excited for everything he does. But I don’t expect him to invite me to family dinners lol.

  45. IMO says:

Hi folks I think maybe david isn’t taking his music career too seriously anymore ,that I how see it going but I might be wrong?

  46. Marylee~NCGirl says:

    Thankfully, it’s dinner time….

  47. IMO says:

Maybe david just don’t care anymore as he used too, every since he got back from his mission, he had changed a lot and prolly he had lot of thoughts on his mind about his life what he want to do on the future. Just posting my opinions that all.

  48. IMO says:

Well idk how david is feeling about his music career , we all don’t know what he wants to do but I hope he stay with it and do a new album in the future. Well goodnight folks

  49. Jani says:

Seems I’m always late to the conversation…..ha….maybe that’s good. ;)

I miss David, pure and simple. I was so looking forward to hearing from him the way you all did….personal tweets and vlogs…..and concerts!….so I’d be lying if I said I wasnt a little disappointed. But still……glad I got on this fan train. It has been wonderful, fun, inspiring, silly, heartwarming, frustrating, enriching, interesting, sweet, and at times even a little hurtful and anxious. Kind of like life. I certainly hope for more communication as his career unfolds, because I care about him and I like hearing from people I care about! But ultimately, just want him to be happy, and successful as he defines it. I still count this fan experience as a big win, with no regrets.

In the live chat didn’t he say, when asked if he missed the Internet, etc. , something like, he thought he would, but found it was so freeing not to be checking it all the time? Maybe he really enjoys being a little less connected, and even he didn’t expect that to be the case. Who knows? None of us, really…..dogonit David! The thing is, I still adore him. And his voice touches me like no one else’s. So here I am.

  50. Jani says:

Janel, I would have has your back yesterday, but didn’t get to comments until tonight…and the moment had passed.

And….I don’t think devious is a word I would use to describe David….or his church. kimk, possibly you have a different idea of what a fireside is. It’s not something done to ” get people” there. Just like the MOTAB concert you attended, it’s an hour or two to have our thoughts and feelings elevated, uplifted and enriched. I’m sure David enjoys participating and makes that known. I don’t belive for a minute there is any “bait and switch” going on. There is value in uplifting messages and music. I would venture that the vast majority of people attending are members anyway. That’s how they even hear about it. (forgive me if I misunderstood your comments….maybe you meant something totally different…and I’m not explaining myself very well here…and of course you have a right to see it differently.)

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

The attendance at firesides is mostly LDS members. The purposes of firesides are what you said, inspirational meetings. Non members are invited but no literal bait and hook going on. When David or any other LDS star heads up a fireside they are usually for youth or young single adults (with some exceptions). I did go to one a few years back with John Bytheway (yes that is his last name) and David Osmond here in Pleasant Grove. I wouldn’t have gone because it was for youth and young adults, but David Osmond put the invite out for anyone to attend. The chapel was just 5 minutes from where I live so I went. John Bytheway is funny, but more LDS humor that some people might not catch, but funny nonetheless.

  51. Jani says:

Bethy….are you all right up there? Don’t let those FFF’s drag you outside for a snowball fight or anything. You’ll freeze your feathers off! :)

  52. kimk says:

Pastel oh didn’t think about that maybe they don’t know either thanks will wait and see too.

  53. kimk says:

another great song.. if I had one song for David to cover it would be this one.

    http://youtu.be/lp-EO5I60KA

    • Martha says:

Great song and video. Amazing how he did all the dancing himself. At first I thought he had a stand-in.

      • kimk says:

think I read he really had to work at it.. very talented young man.

        • Martha says:

He put out a book (sound familiar lol) and he states that he had to work very hard at singing and playing the guitar. He said it doesn’t come naturally. He just sold out 2 dates for next July at Wembley Stadium. They’ve added a third date. (That’s all I have, I know this is a David fansite lol)

    • cq says:

Another great song, Kim, love the dancing. Again WOW, the number of views, lol.

  54. Lucy says:

I’m sorry if I misunderstood anyones comments today, it’s just that David makes me happy and I believe in him so much that I want everyone to also. I know that there are different types of fans here and opinions are always going to be different, I guess it would be pretty boring here if everyone agreed all the time:)

    • Jani says:

Yep, Lucy, makes me happy, too. As always I wish we could all talk face to face. We would probably agree on more than we disagree, and understand each other’s points of view more easily………or at least we could have chips and salsa and have a party while we argue! ;)

Wow…Janel…I am impressed with all the tweets and food pics and tweets of David’s that you have kept track of……Wow….just wow…….Miss Vicki

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

Thanks, it’s not hard, just every time he tweets one I add it to my word document. Takes seconds really. Then bringing the compiled list over here, cut and paste. :)

  58. Miss Vicki DA#2014 says:

Just have to make an observation….When I checked in tonight I saw over a hundred posts…..so I naturally thought…..there must be some new David news….I guess fans start posting more and more when they get anxious about NOT hearing from David……..I am here forever and I check in on this site everyday even though I don’t post much ….Relax everyone……Have faith in David……Miss Vicki

  59. Canadianarchie says:

Reading comments tonight, appreciate reading all your comments that come from your hearts. It’s where your at at this moment in time. We all have experienced a myriad of emotions… Elation, excitement, love, laughter, to sadness, disappointment, anger, frustration to hope etc… Irregardless, of what he is doing, deciding… You guys are here and that’s incredible… We get to share our thoughts with each other and hope to be accepted, understood (not always lol) but at least heard haha! But indeed coming back for more…
I love music, and I love other artists as well. Of course I’ll always be a Fan of David.

If someone was against my religion or beliefs, I would look a little deeper into where that’s coming from (motives) Maybe it’s a fear ?

  60. josie says:

I’m enjoying reading everyone’s perspectives on this. Thanks, Marylee, for saying that we all have valid reasons for how we feel. Personally, I’ve had my foot 1/2-way out the door for awhile already. 3 yrs ago, I couldn’t have imagined feeling that way. But so many things have happened over time that have caused my feelings to change. I’m not happy admitting that, but I also don’t feel like it’s all on me.

I do think some of it is because he hasn’t communicated with us. For me, it’s never been about the music (well, maybe a little bit has been). Mostly, it’s been about HIM. And if I completely lose touch with the person I’m supposed to care about, or if I find that we have nothing in common…then those emotions slowly fade away. Which is a new self-revelation for me. I always thought I was “above” that. But apparently I’m…very human. lol.

Having said that..if he starts engaging with “the outside world” again (even if it isn’t with fans- just SOMEONE in the outside world, lol), if he lets us in just enough to know that he’s doing OK…I would even be grateful for that (OK, maybe I haven’t stopped caring entirely, lol). But if he continued his singing career? OH MAN. I’d probably be climbing the walls, eating 5 bags of Doritos at a time, and calling my radio station to say “He’s back!”And…I don’t know what else. ha.

So, HitandRun, I guess I don’t have a pat answer to your question. I think I’d be ready to let go in a year if nothing has changed from the way it is now. But who knows how I’ll be feeling by then? Life is so unpredictable..

    • Hitandrun says:

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question Josie and thank you for baring your soul so to speak about where you are in your David fandom. My foot has been halfway out the door for the last 3 years but that stubborn second foot just won’t seem to budge from all the way in the room. As much as I like to think it’s all about the music for me, I have to admit that a great deal of it is about who David is as a person and the contact he was willing to give fans to get to know him in the first place. I think it started to change for me when he left on his mission and I began to feel distanced from him. I hoped he would continue where he left off when he returned from his mission and, of course, he would continue sharing himself with fans. That hasn’t happened and I no longer feel like I know who he is because he doesn’t allow us to see who he is now. I can like the music of Adele, or any other artist, but I can never be a devoted fan because they don’t open themselves up to their fans so we feel a part of their journey. David always seemed to want fans to feel like we were part of his journey. Apparently that has all changed for him so it has to have changed for some of us. I’m happy for those who still feel a part of it and I wish I could be one of those. So, for me, I will probably ponder all of 2015 about what I will do if 2016 arrives with no changes on the horizon with David’s career or his contact with fans. I know most won’t agree with me, but I have been a devoted fan of David’s since the first day of Season 7. I have traveled thousands of miles to concerts and spent hundreds of dollars on anything David related so I feel I have as much right as anyone to state my feelings.

      • josie says:

You’re welcome. Thank you for your honest thoughts as well. I’ve been a huge fan from the beginning, too..And while I’ve been 1/2-way OUT the door, that means I’m still 1/2-way IN the door. lol. If I were to see him in person, on TV, making any kind of direct contact with fans…I’d probably need my kleenex box. ha.

    • Marylee~NCGirl says:

This reply, is for Josie AND HitAndRun:
I have experienced all the feelings you each described and I’m sure there are others. I,too, appreciated all the thoughts that were shared today. I post mostly at Twitter on a daily basis, but I will always call FOD home and I know that the folks who have posted here all these years have lots of mixed emotions but always have David’s best interest at heart. It’s been quite a journey and we all simply want him to be all that he can be…incomparable!

Goodnight y’all and thanks for sharing. I found it to be cathargic (sp?), one of David’s vlog words from the early years lol :)

David is in a Good Place right now…..and we should feel like that too…..There is new David music, a new album, a new music video, more performances coming up…..cut David some slack……Looks like we all have a lot to look forward to next year…..and David does communicate with us……just in a more mature way that allows him more privacy for his own life. He deserves that and I want him to have that for himself….and that can only influence his music on a positive level…….Night all……Miss Vicki

  63. Mckenzie Harris says:

My 2 cents. What has kept David Archuleta from the obscurity of the David Cooks, Kris Allens, Lee DeWyzes, Crystal Bowersoxes of the world was his complete mastery of social media. His regular blogs, vlogs, tweets, etc. were truly unique when he was doing them. He was basically doing in 2008 what the most successful YouTubers are doing today. That kept him front and centre and fans fully engaged even when radio did not play him, TV did not show him and he was not touring. That made him different and unique. That allowed him to sell records despite being away for 2 years.

I know there were things about his career post Idol that he did not like – Jive, Management forcing him to be like Bieber etc. Yes, he absolutely should have changed those things. Scaling back on social media? That I don’t get. It is like throwing the baby out with the bath water. I appreciate that doing the social media stuff may not be his favorite thing and may put stress on him. Guess what, that’s the reality of having a successful career. Any career. I doubt there’s a single person who has not had to do things they do not like in order to further their career. That’s a reality. Frankly, putting out a vlog is a lot easier than pulling a 15 hour shift or accepting abuse from a boss to keep one’s job.

The one thing I continue to hope for is that the past year has all just been part of a bigger plan that will be unfolding shortly. Maybe to keep a low profile to make a flashier “comeback”. Who knows. If there is no bigger plan then I just have to shake my head and get used to supporting the next Kris Allen, David Cook, Lee Dwyze and Crystal Bowersox lol.

    • Candy says:

GREAT comment Mckenzie, if he is moving ahead as many say he is, then I too dont get the scaling back on social media. If he truly wants a career, and Im hoping he does, then why cut off the very people who will support it! The random quotes and food tweets have absolutely nothing to do with a career. Sure they are often thought provoking, cute, etc but if you visit the other active David sites, you will see the exact same conversation happening there. Those that have a genuine concern are not the minority, there are a bazallion posts expressing the same thoughts. Are they bad fans, disappointed fans, disgruntled fans, heck no, fans that are disappointed wouldnt be waiting around for three plus years.

    • Hitandrun says:

Yes McKenzie, that was a great comment and I wholeheartedly agree with you.

    • cq says:

I agree great comment Mckenzie and also wholeheartedly agree.
Really enjoyed everyone’s perspectives, great conversations on this thread.

  64. McKenzie Harris says:

Maybe his team has lined up a multi-media, multi-million dollar promo campaign backed by a big label to reintroduce David and David and his team does not feel as much of a need to rely on social media? I’m not holding my breath lol

  65. kimk says:

ha well good luck to all that.

    is this David?

    • Janel aka Nellie says:

No, whomever that is has glasses on, you can see the ear pieces behind his ears. Their talking about the Angels From the Realms of Glory video, maybe about the sweater he was wearing? Tortoise though? I think not. LOL Look beyond the person standing there, the video is playing on the screen.

  67. kimk says:

good night Archies.. you all rock!

  68. Lucy says:

Both my feet are firmly planted in the door, not budging at all, I’m happy that you guys haven’t given up on him yet, I know all this waiting is frustrating, but at least we have FOD and the mods consistantly giving us these daily awesome posts, that are always lively and fun and we have each other no matter how we disagree. I’m also glad to get Davids random tweets and instagrams, even if they have nothing to do with career news at the moment, I really enjoy them:) Good nite everyone

  69. Janel aka Nellie says:

I want to put something out there to make things clear about last night and why I chose to speak up. I am very aware that most of the fans who come on here are not LDS, have different beliefs or are even non-religious and I get that and respect that. I don’t even mind if someone states they don’t agree with a certain aspect of the church…but only if what they are stating is true. If they say something in a matter a fact way they believe the church to be doing when I know it’s not true, I will say something. Having an opinion is one thing, making blanketed statements that are untrue is another, and in turn showing anger toward David and the church for things they obviously know nothing about, that’s when the claws come out.
I apologize for the arguments it caused and any contention that stirred up. I actually like it when people ask me “does the church do this?” or “how does the church feel about this?” It opens things up for a more laid back conversation and avoids embarrassing comments by others.
I love that we still have a lot of die-hard David fans around. I feel it in my bones…something great or a few somethings are coming.

  70. Ali says:

I appreciate all the different perspectives and opinions on remaining a fan.

Mine is this: there are lots of things I wish for for David. There are things that I would prefer he do. But here is a simple truth for me: as long as he sings, I will be a fan. Not saying that to make a point to those who do move on because I get where they’re coming from, I’m just saying it as something I know about myself. A simple truth. I’ve thought long and hard about it. And, yeah, as long as he’s singing, I’m listening.

I’ve been a fan of some artists for over 15 years and I anticipate that continuing as long as they do. The same is true for me with David. He just needs to hold up his end of the bargain and keep on singing ;)

  71. Martha says:

Long story short, most of us who comment here will remain fans, visible or invisible, vocal or non-vocal, for the duration. We will continue to anticipate, celebrate, wonder about his singing journey. Why? Because a singer, artist, PERSON like David comes along only once in a lifetime.

  72. granny lyn from South Africa says:

Good morning! A WONDERFUL Wednesday to all!

Saw the number of posts and knew something was going on…my hope of course was some announcement or appearance info! But NO, not that lucky! Hoping that time will come and we all will be back to ODD overload! Can’t say I thought by now things would be totally different…that David would be back on stage and traveling the world! But that’s not where things are! Know I’ll be a fan of that voice and the package it comes in….no matter! LOVE the fact that FOD is still
Up and running thanks to the AMAZING mods and all the fans here every day! On the Archutrain DA2015 ….destination UNKNOWN?!

  75. kimk says:

Janel hmm.. the picture above David had sunglasses with him when he was in the Shay Carl video
as I recall Shay went to a gym after we saw David with them at the mall and Cheesecake Factory?
maybe David just didn’t want to be on camera at the gym?

  76. Miss Vkcki DA#2014 says:

Morning all…..Hey VABeachArchie….gonna be a cold couple of days here in Va..Keep warm….I’ll be here for David too…no matter what happens……Had a rare dream about David last night……Dreamed he came to dinner at my house and I couldn’t come down from upstairs for a quite a while because I didn’t know what to wear for the occassion…..When I came down he was most gracious for the dinner invitation….He brought his backpack and left it at the front door…..at one point I peaked in his backpack to see what was there……there was a rubber band…..and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich……….Well….I packed a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to take to work today…..go figure……Have a great day at FOD everyone….Off to work….Miss Vicki

    • VaBeachArchie says:

Good morning Miss Vicki! Spring can’t come soon enough..NOT a fan of the cold! Have a GREAT day my friend!

  78. Jhen says:

I don’t have much worry about David, I know he will release an album this year, just don’t know what month. Regarding the tweet, I don’t want to interpret so much, David might want indirect messages, but that’s what he is.

  79. kmb says:

Are we equating number of times you visit/comment on FOD to how devoted of a fan you are? Personally, I don’t comment often anymore, but I’m STILL a HUGE David fan. I don’t comment now usually unless David has announced something/posted something (well, actually, that’s how it always was for me). There are other aspects of my life than David fandom (which is true for all of us) and I’m busy. Scaling back on commenting on or visiting fansites doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not a fan. In fact. I think many fans of David never go to fansites at all.
