Personally, I wanted to vote for Coldplay, but once I listened to all of the choices, I had to go with “Wild Horses” by the Rolling Stones. Cliche, but boy he’d SOAR!

I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of Christmas music owning around 100 discs. I didn’t have very high expectations for this album as I wasn’t particularly fond of Archuleta on Idol. However, I have to say that when the dust settles, Christmas From the Heart may be the best Christmas album ever. Yes, I said it. Ever.

This is lovely.  Ohmygoshashley spliced together the humming bits from “Christmas from the Heart.”  Should I talk about how David’s head seems to be the perfect shape for the sound resonating in a beautiful, harmonic convergence of LOVE???  Ya….that sounds weird.  Let’s pretend that didn’t happen.

David disappoints, David delights

“American Idol” champion David Cook disgruntled some of his Filipino fans by excluding “The Time Of My Life” in his Manila concert set list last May 16.

“The Time Of My Life” was the coronation song of “American Idol” Season 7 which Cook won. The song went as high as number three in the US Billboard charts and became an even bigger hit in Canada (#2) and in the Philippines (#1).

Instead, Cook performed a barrage of unreleased tracks from his self-titled album that left the crowd lethargic. Songs from “Analog Heart,” an album he released during his pre-”Idol” days, made the crowd even more listless.

“We’re playing songs you’ve never heard before,” Cook explained, noticing the lull. “Is that okay?”
The only familiar songs from Cook that night were “Light On” (first single off “Cook”) and his remake of “Always Be My Baby” (originally by Mariah Carey).

“Little Lies” (Fleetwood Mac), although a charter in the US back in the 80s, received little airplay in the Philippines, thus, was hardly recognized when Cook performed it.

The rock singer opened his set somberly with just a guitar accompanying him in “The World I Know;” perhaps in honor of his brother, Adam, who died of brain cancer in March.

At one point, the “Idol” champ mingled with the audience and took a picture of himself using the camera of a fan.

He asked for a show of hands of those who bought his album. Cook, however, must have been let down when the audience couldn’t sing along.

“You guys are still having a good time…right?” he’d check on the crowd from time to time.

To catch the audience’s attention, the singer uttered the Filipino words “Salamat!” and “Magandang gabi!”

“I hope I didn’t butcher ‘em,” he said good-naturedly.

His latest single, “Come Back To Me,” Cook dedicated to newly weds. His doing so had some people scratching their heads.

Part of “Come Back To Me,” after all, goes, “You say you’re leaving as you look away/I know there’s really nothing left to say…”

Cook only gave an encore. Few fans shouted for more the second time he left the stage. Many were more interested in leaving The Mall of Asia Concert Grounds as fast they could to beat the expected traffic jam.

“American Idol” Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta served up a more balanced repertoire.

Although with fewer hit songs (two to Cook’s three), Archuleta was able to keep the audience interested by peppering his set list with four remakes: “Stand By Me” (Ben E King), “Angel” (Robbie Williams), “A Thousand Miles” (Vanessa Carlton) and a snippet of “Beautiful Girl” (Sean Kingston).

The remakes were performed successively at the latter part of the show, thus, establishing a sense of climax. Archuleta also wisely alternated between fast and slow songs instead of a stream of songs that had the same time signature and arrangement.

Archuleta was all over the stage. That’s why after doing certain fast numbers, he would reach for his bottled water and drink which, oddly enough, earned hoots of approval from the audience.

He also accompanied himself on the piano in some songs (e.g. “To Be With You”) and even whistled the instrumental hook in “Your Eyes Don’t Lie.”

The 18-year-old singer had some breathing issues in a couple of the fast numbers. Nevertheless, he was pitch-perfect in most and he was able to reach the high notes especially in “A Little Too Not Over You” and “Crush.”

Other songs that Archuleta performed were “You Can,” “Barriers,” “Don’t Let Go,” “Zero Gravity” and “Waiting For Yesterday.”

I’ll thank the writer of this article for the Archuleta praise, but as someone who just saw Cook perform live on May 2nd, I must disagree with his comments. Yes, Cook does have a tendency to perform songs that were never released or his own personal favorites that no one seems to know. However, that doesn’t diminish from his wild performance. I’ve never been a fan, but I respect his vocals and his flare for the dramatic. If I remember correctly, Cook was climbing scaffolding and jumping fences at the show I went to…

Emma Meets David in Manchester

Hiii, sorry if my constant emailing is getting annoying lol but thought I’d share my excitement! My friend was staying in the same hotel as McFly last night in Manchester and was at the bar and who was there but McFly sitting chatting to David Archuleta in a private VIP area! She is also a big fan of david so didnt want to disturb them and waited till David left before talking to him. His band members came out of the section first so she asked them how long David was going to be and funny story here they said “ohh he’ll be sleeping in the bar..he’s really drunk” and obviously my friend was just like oh my god what! And then they started laughing alot saying “no he doesnt drink at all so stick to tap water if you want to buy him a drink!” They left then at about 1:30am david was leaving and she asked for a picture and he gladly said yes and complimented her on her ring saying he’d never seen anything so huge haha. She also asked him if he was going to be touring the UK soon and he said he didnt know because this was the first thing he’s done over here and asked her if she enjoyed the show etc. Then she got this amazing video for me which I wanted to share just because I love it!

Seriously, I was so excited by it! Can’t wait for Davids album to come out in the UK on Monday, must remind everyone to buy it! haha

Inspiring Fan Story

I just recieved this email from a dear friend of mine I met on one of David’s fan sites.
( we have never actually met in person, but I would really love to do that)
She has been so ill and recieved a new liver a while back. She has been in and out of the hospital many times, but this time I was very worried about her as I had not heard from her in a few weeks. I recieved this from her, ironically on David Archuleta Day.
With all our prayers to God and her little angel helping her out along the way….she is finally home…here is her sweet message of hope, hope and strength.

I’m just SO happy Davids coming so close to me this time.45 minutes from home!Otherwise I couldn’t go.Can’t be too far away.I’ve been SO sick the last 2 months! 3 weeks ago I was admitted with phneumonia and almost bit the dust.They were getting ready to put me on life support.My daughter brought my David CD to the ICU and played it 4 me over & over again..and I snapped out of it!!Our Angel came to my rescue AGAIN!! He it such a miracle in my life! I can’t express how he makes me feel.The JOY & HOPE made me strong and I HAD to live!! Sounds a little Cheezy..but it’s true! And now I must see him & let him know what he means to me! Archurandomness X2!

Here’s an interesting story sent in by Mallory…aww, I’ve been there and know what it’s like.

Hey, FOD! I wanted to send in some Archurandomness for one of these days. One day in reading class, my friend started singing the words “tell me why” and I started freaking out yelling “Oh my gosh! WHERE’D YOU HEAR THAT SONG?!” and she was like “Uhh, everybody is singing it lately. Where have you been?” So the rest of the day I went around listening to what everybody was singing and it turns out that I had heard the words “Tell me why” over and over again. Unfortunately, they were singing the words “T-t-t-t tell me why!” from some song I’ve never heard before. I thought it was A Little Too Not Over You and I got all excited about something stupid that wasn’t even about David. Ha ha.
