Look!  David’s making cookies to take to his local Top 40 radio station’s Program Director!  What are YOU doing for ALTNOY?

ALTNOY Update!

Mediabase:

96 85 DAVID ARCHULETA A Little Too Not Over You 19/Jive/Zomba 75 60 15 0.504

Radio Stations that added ALTNOY today (from Mediabase):

Let’s take a look at this chart.  The biggest add today BY FAR was WALK-FM in the New York Metro area.  Also, note that XM/Sirius 20 on 20 has it as an add.  But more on that in a bit.  Any spins and adds are great, but we want to see big markets start to play ALTNOY.  Broken record alert, but go to the Radio Request page and start at your local radio stations.  I’ll be honest…I have only texted in requests, but starting tonight, I am going to politely email the program directors.  I’ll only do this once and not badger them, but I will go ahead and do it.

iTunes:

Pop 100: 77!!  Keeps on a movin’!

A word on ALTNOY’s chart progress…

This is a great post by Seattlearchie about how ALTNOY is going to be quite different from Crush.  It will look different on the charts, on the radio and in sales.

The “release” date of 1/6/09 just means that it is officially available to radio stations to add to their playlists. ALTNOY has already been available as a single since 11/11, when the album came out on iTunes. If ALTNOY is going to make it to #1, it will only be after it has been added to many radio station playlists and rises up the airplay charts. That will take time — a couple of months probably. That’s the only way a single can really become #1 if the album has already been released — new fans have to hear it on the radio and go download it. Lots of airplay can translate into high sales, but only down the road when lots of stations are playing it heavily. That’s why requesting to your local pop station is so important.

…Unlike Crush, lots of people already have the full album and will not want to re-buy the song as a single. Which means that it will hit #1 (or 2 or 3) only if lots of new people hear the song on the radio and want to buy it.

Just want to make sure people’s expectations aren’t unrealistic, so people aren’t disappointed when it takes a while for ALTNOY to climb the charts.”

In other words, this will be a whole different animal.  Does it mean that ALTNOY will never chart as high as Crush.  Heaven’s no.  It’s going to be a grower.  And we’re going to be with it all the way.

Your requesting stories!

Send us your interesting, helpful or unique “requesting stories.”  Did the DJ tell you he was a fanboy and wants to spin ALTNOY 17 times per day?  Shoot us an email!  Did the program director tell you to take your request and put it in the form of a haiku?  Let us know!

We can all learn from what others have heard from other stations…we’re becoming educated consumers of the modern music industry.  This is FUN!

XM 20 on 20 Update…our boy Priestly wants to talk to you!

Click to go to XM 20 on 20 request page.  Crush is still on the list.  For ALTNOY call 866-553-2020 to request.

Ya’ll may remember my Priestly-love back in the early days of Crush.  Priestly is the morning drive DJ and the only 20 on 20 DJ you can talk to live during the day.  I talked to him about once a week (so as not to stalk…a girl knows how to play hard to get).  He LOVES David and loved Crush.

Sally talked to Priestly this morning and has this update:

After several tries this AM I finally got through to Priestly on XM in hopes of requesting “ALTNOY”.  It was encouraging because when I began to say the title of the song, he chimed in saying “yah, A Little Too” and could not quite remember the rest of the title.  He told me he would be playing it shortly.  I then said something like. . . that’s great, asking if he had any idea how soon that would be because I was on my way to work listening to his show and would love to be able to hear it.

Anyway, he then said “To be honest with you.  You know how the radio business is.  I’m not going to be able to play it until tomorrow”.  (He didn’t elaborate on why.)  But he quickly stated that he was going to “put it (“ALTNOY”) on as one of the new hits of 2009″.  I don’t know what he meant by that statement, if it means he’ll record it on a phone message, add it to the countdown or just announce it that way before he plays it?????

I found it interesting that some radio stations in the country have already played “ALTNOY” but satellite radio can’t play the song until tomorrow-especially 20/20 where they advertise “you control the station”.  I guess this is all part of being patient and just continue to request respectfully.

It’s rumored that Priestly is being moved to 9 to noon ET, an idea he might not be in love with.  When you call the number above, vote for ALTNOY and tell XM that you love Priestly in the morning!  Pretty please!

ALTNOY Sonic Ether Remix!

Inauguration “Stuff”

Here’s Amy’s story of her last-minute attendance at the Utah Governor’s inauguration:

How often do I get to say that it is an exciting time to live in Utah…and mean it?
TODAY I DO!

I was caught by surprise this morning browsing FOD to find out that David was singing at the Governor’s inauguration ceremony. I had my camera with me, but it was out of batteries.  Anyway, I headed down there on my lunch break to see David in person rather than wating for a video to post- plus, I realized that I am very fortunate to work only a few blocks from the state capitol on this lovely day and I did not want to pass up this opportunity.

Anyway,  Lining up on the steps were selected important people;  men in uniform, the governor and his wife, some other politicians and thier wives- (Senator Who?), yadda yadda….most were between the ages of 50-60.  Some older.  And there was David–The main attraction.  The only attraction.  (And the only attractive one).   The crowd was more excited to see him than all the others combined.

Despite the cold and my lack of preparation– (my dead camera batteries, lack of appropriate outerwear, no friends ten years younger than me on hand to share the experience with, etc) it was an awesome experiece, and possibly one of the last events I could catch David at with so few people. (Few, meaning few hundred, but still…few in the scheme of things)  How quaint it was to watch him sing on the stairs of Capitol Hill.

I was able to record the anthem on my cell phone’s sound recorder.  I would load it but I don’t know how…I could ask my husband but then he would not only be shocked and confused that I had taken time out of my day to see David Archuleta (He’s just jealous and gave his vote to Cook) but also that I went to Huntsman’s inauguration (He voted for Springmeyer).

During Huntsman’s speech, he said that he was limiting himself to two terms but “David Archuleta should not”

I wish I had my video camera.  I wish he stayed outside the whole time for me to look at.  I wish the national anthem was longer.  I wish he sang it twice.  Dang it.

At least I can shamelessly tell someone that I spent my morning at the governor’s inauguration, and someone will understand why.  Just no one I know

Bringing the big news to a new thread…

Next Single Will Be A Little Too Not Over You!

FOD has learned from a very reliable source that David Archuleta’s next single will be A Little Too Not Over You!  This news was released to FOD just a few minutes ago.

Jive decided last night to switch the next released single from Touch My Hand to A Little Too Not Over You.

David is currently working with Jeff and others to conceptualize the video for ALTNOY! The video for Touch My Hand was all planned out, so the team is very busy switching gears right now.

Are we deliriously happy?! YES!

Our lovable source said that he is very happy about this: ALTNOY is a happy song and yet still a nice contrast to Crush, and best of all, David co-wrote it.

Fans make a difference.

“A Little Too Not Over You” reviews…mine and YOURS!

I will NEVER forget the stomach in my throat feeling WAY back in…October…when Jenny buzzed me saying, “Umm…Becky….I just got an email….”  As we did RAPID fact-checking, she sent me the audio file and out came ALTNOY.

I unabashedly love it.  I’m a SUCKER for sweepiness (which is a word…just trust me…NO! DON’T GO LOOK IT UP!!  COME BACK!) and this one has it.  But what’s crazy is how it is two distinct songs somehow tied together.  It’s a choppy, syncopated start to the verses tied to the sweepy, almost elegant chorus of vocal loveliness by five lines that seem to seamlessly change the style of the song without interrupting the flow:

Sometimes I try to hide

What I feel inside.

And I turn…around…

You’re with him now…

I just can’t figure it OOOUUUTTT!!

The unusual (for pop music) time signature, the “WHOOOO-OOOOO” in the bridge (the bridge, THE BRIDGE) and the universal theme make this an AMAZING choice for the next single. I’m seriously beyond happy.  Not QUITE as happy as I would be if “Works For Me” was the next single, but I don’t think that’s possible.  So I’ll stay blissfully happy with ALTNOY until it’s time to freak out over single #3!

**whispers — David wrote it (ok, co-wrote it)SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE **

But here’s what you all had to say on our ALTNOY review page:

I’m not a review writer because I don’t like to nit-pit good music, but I had to approach this one. THE SONG IS GENUIS! This would be in my top 2-3 favs on the album. The 6/8 rhythm with hard beats on 5, 6, and 1 as he begins the verse, plays against the syncopated rhythm of the words. And then “And I turn” is right on those hard beats when he moves into the chorus. The clever lyrics draw you in too, for example, “Tell my why it’s so hard to forget, don’t remind me” – WHAT? The words and rhythm together make this song so catchy and “today”. Meaning, it’s not cliche sounding; the phrase, A Little Too Not Over You, is a way somebody today might refer to those feelings. At first, I found it difficult to remember the title, til I learned the song. Ha! It stays with you. I am excited that there is rumor of this being a single – IMHO this should be the 2nd single, but I’ll be patient. This shows David’s overall artistry as a vocalist and writer. Congratulations, David Archuleta!

This song definitely has “Single” written all over it. Everything about this song is just right. The lyrics and music are a perfect match. It is a song that most can relate to one way or another. The falsetto and runs just add to the build up to this song. I especially love the little change in the ending with “really dont know what to do”. I think this song can go FAR! Love it!

A Little Too Not Over You is a great song that is tailor-made for the radio! I believe it will be a HUGE hit and can’t wait for it to hit the airwaves. The lyrics and music just blend together so naturally. Way to go David on co-writing ALTNOY, it’s a winner!

David’s vocals are outstanding in this song. You believe every single word he sings, and that smooth velvety voice of his just glides over your eardrums like a warm soothing balm. And the anguish – GAH. Yes, it just builds and builds and then simply SLAMS into you in the bridge! That falsetto is just not from this world! I want to hear and see this live! If I were that girl he’s singing about here, I’d run back to him as fast as I could!!! Haha

Don’t you ever think these thoughts when you see that someone from the past?
I always think….”File that one in the round file, Gracie!” Anyway, this will hit
the Jive target market like an epidemic. David has proven on this album that
he can find any audience and land that particular demographic if their ears are open.
The lyric here…the idea of ALTOY is an idea that goes round and round in the mind
which is not bad when attached to the sable smooth voice we know and love.

Z100 covers the Virgin Megastore signing!

I’m a convinced that Z100 as a collective group are fangirls/fanboys.

Rhapsody

David is doing MUCHO well on Rhapsody, and is the #4 artist overall.  Of course I have a visual that you may click on to go to the page.  He is #2 on the album charts and “Crush” is #5 on the singles chart.  Thanks FODFran!

Wikiality (THIS IS NOT REAL…BUT REALLY FUNNY)

I laughed ’til I cried with this little diddy.  What’s my favorite entry?  “Fans?”  “Awards and Honors?” Click on Stephen Colbert (you KNOW this means trouble)…
