About Dapo

So who is Dapo?  Many of you have been following Dapo’s tweets about his successful two-day writing session with David, but to truly appreciate the depth of this artist, you must visit his website: dapomiroworks.com.  Follow him on Twitter: DapoTorimiro.

Dapo is a songwriter, producer, composer, accomplished pianist, multi-instrumentalist, and singer born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria.  He began with his own band, Kush, and then moved onto perform as a studio and touring musician, working with such artists as Lauryn Hill, Lalah Hathaway and Stevie Wonder.  His ultimate goal, however, was to songwrite and produce for major artists, and he has definitely achieved that goal!  His resume includes work with David Archuleta (production/songwriting/musician credit on “Running” and musician credit on “A Little Too Not Over You”), John Legend, Brandy, Elliot Yamin, Jordin Sparks, and Justin Bieber.

Dapo has written and produced songs for several Disney projects including Camp Rock 2 and The Princess and the Frog.  WHAT?!?  If you haven’t heard it, that’s a fantastic soundtrack, and Dapo has production/musician credit on “Down In New Orleans.“ 

Dapo recently teamed with David Foster to produce songs for Toni Braxton, Olivia Newton John, and Charice.  And here’s something amazing to watch: Dapo played guitar on “What Child Is This?” and “O Tannenbaum” on the David Foster Christmas special “My Christmas,” which aired on PBS in December.

David is still in Miami and was excited to have seen Owl City in concert last night.  (Owl City is selling out everywhere; good for them!)

The Miami “No Air” Experience

Fran here. I can’t begin to describe how elated I feel to have been able to witness both performances of “No Air” with David and Jordin. I only hope that my Twitter followers didn’t suffer while reading my frantic tweets. Anyway, during the picnic events, people with VIP seating were given pre-assigned tables that seated four. I was lucky enough to be seated in the table just across from David and Lupe. This was my first time meeting Lupe and I must say, she is even more gorgeous in person.

David’s picnic set consisted of “Crush” with the track and “Apologize” on the piano. I wasn’t about to get my hopes up for “No Air,” so I was surprised when it actually happened. In fact, it was during “Tattoo” that I had noticed David was still wearing his ear piece. At first I had just assumed that he was just being spacey and had forgotten to take it off…obviously, I was wrong.

David is a ninja! I nearly missed seeing him duck under the tables and sneak his way up the stage. One minute he was waving his arms to “Battlefield” and the next, he was singing “No Air.” I’ve watched both versions on youtube and they just don’t do the performance justice. It left me speechless and nearly in tears. Jordin and David really need to go on tour together!

I’d also like to thank the lovely FODers who kept me company since I had gone to the event all by myself! Thanks guys, you know who you are.

No Air 2.0

Two “No Air’s” in one day???  To what do we owe this honor? I had to hit the sack last night, which I’m so thankful I did.  I needed rest to prepare myself for this one.  Jordin’s voice was getting nice and raspy after a day of singing and speaking and no doubt laughing with friends.  David’s was perfect.  PER.FECT.  Perfect.  This is the David Archuleta timbre that I love so much.  It was really smooth and powerful.  He was so into the song too.  Great job interacting with Jordin to make No Air believable.

I need to zip it because y’all just want to hear the music…

Soul Man

Jordin and David jam to Sam Moore’s mashup of Soul Man/Mustang Sally (one of the best songs ever in the history of the world).  David’s dancin’! He keeps sneaking out of the spotlight and finally goes back to his seat.  But it’s hip-shakin’, hand-clappin’ FUN!  Jordin’s brother makes an appearance and does a dance with Jordin that’s so brother/sister dance, it makes me want to call my brother and have him come up for a jam session.
