AOL Sessions Obsession; David Archuleta “In the Heights!”

AOL Sessions
Yesterday was a day of contrasts. Warm, sweet together-family time paired with calm-inducing trytophan. All of the sudden, at 5:30 p.m., BAM!!! AOL Sessions were posted! My heart began to race and I got all shaky. Visions of INCREDIBLE, not-live-up-to-able performances from the tour (coughAngelsTulsacough) ran through my head. I was SO nervous. I know, I know…trust the Archuleta and I always do…but I was just nervous.
Crush: Man alive, I’m re-in-love with this song after watching this version. Maybe it’s the visual component, being able to see David sing it, but there was something in this performance that we also saw on Bonnie Hunt (my favorite of the TV promo performances). The bridge was more intense and the band sounded GREAT! Mixed properly, this song is awesome live.
In one of the interview segments, he discussed completely changing up some of the songs eventually. “Crush” should be at the top of the list because, although a fantastic song, it would be incredible as a subdued, contemplative acoustic version.
ALTNOY: Ummmmm….I had to grab paper bag and inhale after this one. I was just so BLOWN AWAY, I got light-headed and needed a seat. It’s not changed up that much here from the album, but I wasn’t sure how this would translate live. Vocally, he will have a ball with this one. His words are very enunciated (that seems to be a thing with me, doesn’t it?). The boys in the band (was that a song?) harmonized really well and sounded great! But HOLY BRIDGE!!! HOLY.BRIDGE. How does he sing that high? How does he sing that high with seemingly NO effort? And it was awesome to be able to watch him sing it too. VIDEO!!!!
Best part. My mom, of the “I love when he sings ‘Think of Me’ and ‘Longer’ and when he sings ballads dating from 1964 to 1979″ vein, LOVED IT! She’s going to the Atlanta Jingle Jam with me (along with my niece, who doesn’t know yet but will DIE when she finds out), so I was having a ball giving her the guided David Archuleta songbook tour!
Touch My Hand: I’ll admit that I was one of the folks partying in the streets when it was announced that ALTNOY, not TMH, was the next single. There were lots of reasons for this, but none were because I didn’t like TMH. Because I do.
But I’m really feelin’ it more now. I think it will be fantastic live. When he’s with an audience he’s connecting with, or finds that certain girl in the audience he can latch on to (“OMGosh…he’s singing to MEEEEEEEEEEE!!!”), it’ll be fun and different and a GREAT SONG! Now I’m excited about TMH!
My Hands: As an album track, MH was a “grower” for me. I was hooked by the funky lyrics, but wasn’t LOVING the song as a whole. It’s hard to put my finger on why. I have so many others from the main album that I just love (YEDL, Desperate, DLG) that this one is pretty far down the list for me.
So I was happy to hear some of the changes David is already incorporating when he performs this live. I think it’ll be a much more interesting song (cool lyrics aside) when he does it live. Also, props YET AGAIN to the boys in the band (seriously…why is that reminding me of a song? What song am I thinking of?) for some great harmonies and taking a very produced track the album and making it work live.
You Can: I needed more than a paper bag after this one. I needed a BOX of Kleenex, a shoulder to lay my head on and the “replay” button on the Session player. I really love this simple little song. It doesn’t have the power vocals or moments, but it’s more than that. This is one I’m sure he’ll play with vocally, but you don’t want to tinker too much. The song needs to be simple so as to let the bridge be pleading and sincere and more intense. The last “can,” before the final, “Show me that good things come to those who wait…”…THUD…I am just in such awe of his instrument. I really am…

Happy Thanksgiving to all! I don’t post too much but just wanted to say how much I love David’s AOL Sessions. I’ve watched them about 2O times each. Also, an interesting experiment to do is to just listen to each song without watching the video & compare it in your mind to the song on the album. I kind of like the AOL Sessions better…..David’s voice is more prominent with less production. Anyway he is a great singer with a great talent.

aol sessions- it’s worth the wait.now, i can’t stop stop myself from watching it over, and over, and over again!
david hunkchuleta is so amazing and super duper talented and gahhhhhhhhhh, it’s so hard to describe his enormous greatness in that aol sessions.
the band did an amazing job too.they compliment with david in so many ways!i loved the name they gave to the band, “dang it’s”,hahaha.i hope to get more info about them too.they are fantastic guys though. i saw them in person last nov 11 and oh well, life is beautiful hahaha!
shout out to my friend andrea c!- i had a blast yesterdaY at the macy’s parade.i did not recognize david at first bec he was wearing a bonnet.so by the time he got near my place (38th st broadway), i was in shocked that i forgot to click my camera.i just found out that it was david when the people starting to scream his name,D-A-V-I-D, D-A-V-I-D yayyyyyyyy!i’ve been waiting for his float since 6 am then when he appeared it suddenly poof, it was over.gosh, but it was worth it. i will do everything for david.

I think I’ve listened to them about 30 times each today. I CANNOT get enough of David! That is the truth! David’s live performances are so…AMAZING! I can HARDLY wait for his concert tour! Arghhh!! It may drive me wild….wait a minute, I think he’s already done that….hmmmmm..

51 Joanie – It was a good one. I just watched the ALTNOY video a little while ago. He is just going to be amazing in concert. He adapted that so perfectly for a live performance. Can’t wait for the release of the single! I have to admit I was a bit infuriated with the abysmal camera work in the video, how could they do that, are they that clueless.

I will defer the answer to a poster on IDF… we don’t want to start requesting out of our local areas, or start swamping the stations too early because they will write it off to typical fangirl behavior and most likely ignore them… I am waiting to see if any other markets are going to spin it before official add date before I personally begin requesting it here in Charlotte… but for Gainesville area listeners, I don’t see a problem in possibly calling the station to request it, or using the internet mediabase link – that’s for Gainesville Florida area listeners only

I don’t think anyone should be requesting ALTNOY outside of this station area. They’ll know they are fan requests and will just disregard them (if they are nice). But that’s just what I think.

81 Joanie lol. Exactly! They took the camera off him when it should have been on him during the falsetto’s. They do the usual short snippets and keep changing the angle, as if everyone has such a short attention span they wouldn’t watch if the camera kept a good angle for a little while. I know no one here has any attention span when watching David! That’s one thing I’ll say about AI, they did beautiful camera work. But don’t worry, when it came to DAvid’s performance, the glass was overflowing, I just want to see the very best presentation of him. I need to direct.

yeah, i was frozen in the middle of jampacked crowd.i can’t barely move.the crowd just loved our david and i’m soooooo proud of him.when the people started to scream his name, david was sooooo overwhelmed.he kept on waiving and waiving and he was smiling the whole time, as usual.
it was a very memorable experience for me since that was the first time i witnessed such great event.thanks for david because it if wasn’t for him, i will not be able to be there and feel the excitement of the thanksgiving parade.

Before voting like a mad woman tonight, I want to share a mother-daughter bonding moment that occured at the dinner table:
So my eight (almost nine, yikes!) year- old daughter who was especially giddy said, “Mom, you know what song I can’t get out of my head? A Little Not Too Over You!” (Yes, I will forgive her for the slight mix up in words.) I said with a slight chuckle, “It is a GREAT song isn’t it, it’s David’s next single on the radio!” A little while later she said, “OK, that song is out of my head but now CRUSH is there instead!” As I grinned from ear to ear, my hubby (who is a classic rock guy) was shaking his head at his two fangirls.lol So I have to say “thank you” to Mr. David Archuleta for sharing his music that is loved by a mother and daughter.

Today, I was in Day-Murray Music (in Lehi, Utah) (they actually have the main one in Murray, Utah) and I bought a piano/vocal arrangement of Crush. If you play piano and your local music store doesn’t have it, you can order it. My husband made up his own version, but it will be nice to get one that is more polished.

Just got back from Wal-Mart where David’s Cd was on the New Releases section. I took the advice of some great people on this site and moved the CD’s to the Best Sellers section. Of course I put all of David’s on the top row in a nice line. I rearranged the rest to reflect the obvious choices others should make with Cook in the next row and Taylor Swift in the middle. Several people walked by as I was doing this good deed and asked it I worked there. I just told them about David’s amazing CD.

Thank you Becky for your critique of the AOL sessions music. I agree with your glowing comments. I love My Hands though. It was one of my favorites and has continued to be one that I play over and over. I was worried about a live version. This is a hard song to sing. David was fantastic. I made my husband watch the sessions last night and he was really impressed.
Camera shots on the sessions bothered me too. Last night I was upset each time the camera left David for a moment. My daughter was here for Thanksgiving and was laughing at me as I cringed each time the guitar or the drums were shown. She said “Mom they have to show the band some in the video. They do it for everyone. They can’t just show his face the entire time even though that would make you deliriously happy”. She’s right. I loved every second of it and will continue to watch it over and over.

192 free4 all: Good job! I actaully did not have to do any rearranginf today at Walmart. THey had 3 Rows of David’s Cd ,3 rows of Cooks’s CD and 1 row of Jordin’s on the top shelf side by side. I was ok with that.
I also noiced Walmart had a new display for Slot Music. They had the players for $20 and several slot music card (albums) for $13.99. None of David’s though.

Hi everyone! I just got home after a long day of shopping and going to the movies with my sister and my nephew. We saw Twilight and I thought it pretty good. (After hearing David went to see it with his Mom, I just had to go see it too!) Afterwards we all went back to my parents (my sister and family are visiting from Long Island for the holiday and staying with them) and I was surprised to see a package waiting for me there. I didn’t recogize the name on the return address so I was like, “Who is sending me a package?” (Plus I didn’t realize that I had it sent to my parents’ address instead of my own!) To my surprise, I opened it to find the beautiful blue ornament I ordered for my tree! That totally made the rest of the day for me! Now I better hurry up and get that tree up so I can hang it proudly on there!

Debbie – I ended up staying home today. I got up, showered, dressed, packed my cooler, & was feeling awful. Turns out I had a fever to accompany the cold/cough I’ve been fighting all week. OMG The AOL Sessions are amazing!! I love them all! Now we know what to look forward to at the Jingle Balls/Jams! I am so excited! I am also so excited that David so In The Heights! That is my absolute favorite broadway show!! When I saw it, I actually said to my husband that I thought David would love this show and should go see it! I am so happy he did and met the cast! That is awesome! In The Heights supposedly just signed a movie deal, so anyone who won’t get to see it on broadway can see it in the movies eventually! I highly recommend it!!

473 NorthCarolinaGirl, No the defamer did something actually really cute I thought. Snarkyarchies posted it and was lovin’ that the defamer was giving our David any attention. Nothing bad in it and a very very good picture of David at the parade. But Scott here mentioned some bad comments after the post, which I did not see when iwent to defamer. For some reason the comments never loaded. I’m sure there were bad comments, but I didn’t even see them. You could go look and not look at the comments. I loved it actually.

You Can and My Hands have actually been my favorties out of the 12 regular tracks (not bonus). I listen to those on repeat. I just feel such a connection to You Can. It has really brought me to tears a bunch of times. My Hands is just a fun song with a great beat. I love that is so upbeat. I just find it so catchy! I really hope he sings both at the Jingle Balls/Jam. It seems that My Hands is tough for him to sing at parts. I think because it is so wordy, but he can get lots of practice changingit up if sings them at the Jingle Concerts. He is awesome no matter what he does!
