VH1 VOTING DAY IS TODAY!
GMAX4 had a brilliant idea: we need to use our mad voting skills today to get “Crush” to the #1 spot on the VH1 Top 20 Coundown. Let’s have a voting day! And what better way to do this than to force you to stop commenting on this blog at certain times today? Wait…before you start to panic…this is the plan:
At three certain points today, I will disable the comments on this blog and make an announcement to go vote for an intense 10 minutes. Then we can all return and see who got the most votes in!
VOTE HERE. Put David in the #1 spot (you can fill in the others if you like, but it’s not necessary), submit your vote, click “Rank ‘em again” above the “Thanks for voting” message, and vote again! And again! And again! No need to refresh your browswer (thanks, McCrack, for that info).
Monotonous? Yes, but as GMAX4 pointed out, take a moment to reflect on the hours David spent standing out in the blistering sun signing autographs, posing for pictures, applying chapstick for the benefit of swooning females, and just giving all of himself to us. This is one small way to say thank-you.

Poetry from an FOD Lurker

Hi guys. Being an international fan is difficult. There are times when so much emotion overcomes me for my admiration and love for David that I wish I was there with you guys just be near him. I guess you call it the ODD effect. That is why I am so grateful for there being an ODD that “helps ease the pain” and soothes the soul.
My story has been lingering in my draft folder for a few months now. I have been shy about posting it because I didnt feel right about intruding into your world. But a few days ago Jenny had an “international day” and I thought maybe it is about time.
This is just a short story of how David has changed my life. Being in the medical profession, my life is pretty hectic and hurried. So busy that I did not have time to smell the roses, so to speak. As happens to most of us, there comes a time when we ask ourselves what is the reason for our being. What am I supposed to do? Is this all there is?
It was at one occasion when I was feeling this that I heard Imagine. It may sound so cliche at this time, after so many stories have been told about the effect of Imagine, but that is magic of David singing that song. Needless to say, it gave a new meaning to my life.
During medical training we usuallyl have medical missions in underprivileged areas. I always promised myself that I would continue to have missions like this during my practice. To cut to the chase, I am now coordinating with civic action groups, non-profit organizations who provide help to underprivileged people – street children, abandoned children or elders, unwed mothers, etc…I am no Oprah, but my help is not always monetary, it may be small donations of notebooks,pens, bags for school, food or old clothing , or what not; or just time playing with the kids, or talking with the young troubled teenagers, or the abandoned old people…just to make them feel that there are people who care. Just recently, I have convinced some colleagues of mine to join me in this endeavor. So, on Sundays or weekends, we go visit some orphanages or shelters and see what help we can offer. My ultimate goal is to have a small group of kids (or maybe even just one) who I can help on a long term basis. Maybe help them through school or help make something of their lives. This will be my “David’s Angel/s” and someday, I hope to be able to tell/write David about this group and what they have accomplish..all because of the inspiration he gave me.
Ever since I started doing this, I feel like a different person. I seem to be happier, more compassionate,patient and caring and this has carried over to my work.
Well, that’s my short story.
There are occasions in my life when I am hit by a writing bug. This usually happens when there are things I feel emotional about. I usually write poems. There is no rhyme or rhythm, just words of how I feel that I put together and say its a poem (haha). Here are some stuff I wrote about David and all things David. They are not Nobel prize winners, nothing like Ronalds’ ballad, but they come from my soul.
Before you read the poem, take a deep breath, put yourself in the zone, close your eyes and feel… just like David does before he sings, ….then read..slowly, with feelings .

THE LURKER ….AND THE LARK
Like a tiger, i sit alone on the side
…watching… listening…
In front of me, in a maze of corn, I see
…some hens, some roosters
…some lucky horses,
…some dogs, some kittens
… a fish (?)
Drawn by the sound of a beautiful voice
Mesmerized and hypnotized, they move as one
And they gather in front of a lark
Of me they are not aware
…lurking on the side
I feel i should join them
For I too am drawn by the voice
But do I dare?
I am but an intruder…
If i do, the mold might break
If i disturb, the song might end
And it seems, that would be a sin
But the song fills me
…it pierces my heart
…it stills my soul
And so I go
…as i near, i am. ..entranced
Into the circle i am embraced
…by the angel wings of the lark!
We are brought together by a song
Held together by the essence of its beauty
and the humbleness of its being
No longer do I lurk

I have no time to cook dinner

I hide from hubby
I neglect hubby
I drag hubby to corn maze
I make hubby love you, too!
…. uh, where did my children go?
I bake cupcakes with your face on them
I put paprika (instead on cinnamon) on french toast batter
I fall from my bed when i dream of dancing with you
I think of pianos, I think of chairs
I have thoughts i shouldn’t have ( oops!)
I have water bottles with your name

I read stories of those you touched
I make tributes that make me cry

FYI, you do not have to refresh the page each time you vote at VH1….just click on “rank ‘em again” above “thank you for voting”. Also, you do not have to click “close” on the information box that pops up each time. Just drag Crush over to #1 and it goes away. This really speeds up how many votes you can get in.

by the way ya’ll, how do ya keep track of how many times you vote, i just keep doing it till the tips of my fingers are numb that i don’t even keep track. i don’t think i even have fingerprints anymore, they rubbed off!!! anyhoo, i’ll try again later. it’s my son’s 15 b-day and i’m making him a cake, he really deserves it after this morning. my hubby was dropping him off at school and were hit by a jeep on the passenger side of my hubby’s truck, right on the door next to my son!!!!! thankfully no one was hurt, just shook up. my son made it to school on time and there were no major damages to either vehicle except a small dent on the door and a bit of a scratch. my hubby said the other driver was truly sorry and managed to wish my son a happy b-day!!haha

Yeah, I was born in the States, but yeah my parents immigrated to S.F. from the Philippines! My Tagalog sucks though – I took a couple classes at UC-Berkeley but haven’t picked up much. I did write a satirical skit based on the Jerry Springer show, called “Tserry Springer” LOL. I want to post it up on YouTube someday…
Did I miss the celebration here on FOD when Archie and Dadchuleta went to the Journey concert? They love Journey! Arnel Pineda has an AMAZING voice! It was so cool to see they knew he was Filipino and really liked him!
When I talked to Jeff in Detroit July 24th I talked about family’s origins and he said “Yeah, there’s a lot of musical talent from the Philippines.” I was like sho-nuff! LOL

Hi Ronald and fellow FODers just do some lurking online and thought why not stop here for a bit . Ronald I know how you feel my parents Tagalog is perfect and that is their first language . Did I mention they are from the Philippines . I am the only one in my family that was born and raised here in the states . For me I call mine Taglish (and yes it is mesh of Tagolog and English ) cuz my Tagolog is not that great since my parents never continued teaching me the language as I got older . 1990 – Let’s see! I was in college in Lake Charles, La. Got my first job in TV there and met the man that is now my husband.
Let’s see… 1990. My daughter was 5 months old in Jan. ‘90; she’s now a Sophomore in college! My son was almost 4 years old; now he is an Airman in the greatest AIR FORCE in the ENTIRE WORLD! GO USAF! My husband and I had been married for 6 years; and this year we will have our silver anniversary! Wow, 25 years went by fast.
Who was to think that when a baby boy with dark hair and hazel eyes was born in December, 1990, that he would bless and change sooooo many lives just a few short years later? Ahhh, everything happens for a reason and we are ALL SO BLESSED because of it.

Its a gorgeous day, in David’s birth state, Fl as everybody already knows. I like that countdown photo every morning too. When it started we were in the 40’s now 30’s, time is flying. It is hard to believe David is still recording songs considering the release date.

I really like Elliott Yamin too. Unfortunately, he wasn’t signed to a major record label, so he hasn’t had the same support that Jive has given David. Seriously, he has been promoted better than any other runner up I am aware of. It seems as if he is being treated equally if hot better than the actual winner of AI. I think they have done a great job. What I am most amazed about is how organized team archie has been, this site is very supportive to him. The gifting has been amazing, it would be hard for the receivers to not want to continue to support him, considering how generous everyone has been. He has the perfect demographics supporting him. We still buy actual CD’s not just downloads.

It’s really good & important (It think) to know @ least 2 languages, & Spanish & English are the two most powerful languages in the world. So it’s a good thing to know! My daughters (both) speak & write fluently in both languages, to me that is a very important lecture in life!
Jill – In 1990 (after 9/11 my husband was pissed) so he enlisted in the USMC, we lived in Okinawa (1 year) & in San Diego (3 years), we loved the military life, but it was very scary & the same time. Not to mention that we where in San Diego when those two quakes hit, it was freaky.

Naree: I loved your poems and the fact that you have been inspired by David to reach out to the less fortunate. Look what David makes us do! I wonder if David will ever realize just what an impact he has had on the world? The world has been forever changed, all because a young man who loved to sing decided to take the chance that maybe, just maybe, people didn’t like his singing only because he was small and cute! Just maybe they weren’t all tone deaf and he really did have something to offer. Just maybe it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he gave up his summer job for the opportunity to audition for American Idol. How many of us would have the courage to put ourselves out there to be judged, criticized, and possibly embarrassed in front of millions of people? Especially at 17!
As Paula said, he has the confidence and maturity of an old soul when he’s on stage. He was born to do this — it’s been his heart’s desire, his passion, his dream from an early age — and the fact that he was able to rise above his fears, overcome his shy nature, and take such a huge risk to follow his dreams just makes me admire and respect him so much! Of course, there’s also his phenomenal talent, his sweet, loving, kind, and caring nature, his impeachable standards, his dry wit and aw shucks laugh, and his gorgeous looks, which make it virtually impossible not to love, love, love him! As Paula said, David, “you’re glorious”!

My daughter and I want to learn Spanish. We’ve talked about it for a while now, and I just wonder how to go about that. I’ve heard that Rosetta Stone is a good tool – kind of on the $$$$ side, but worth it. My son is getting it to learn some S. Korean language… that’s got to be a difficult one to learn!
But I agree, I think at least two languages are necessary nowadays. And what better one than Spanish
I know a few words, but that’s it!

Jill – Thank you for your kind words, I bet it’s very hard for you having your son active in the military this days, with so much going on! I feel very much for active solders, they have given us the freedom we live in. So take your son and spoil him, hug him lots.
About learning another language, I think is important in life to know the most you can about anything. I have heard that Rosetta is good, Spanish is a harder language to learn than English, tough. But, never say never, give it a try, is worth the effort! I sure did when learning English. My dad used to sent me to Boston & Texas on summer camp, I will always be thankful for that. Also in school here in PR (private school) English is a given since pre-pre, as much as we learn Spanish we do English, only we speak in Spanish, we see TV in English & have all the mayor school books in English too.
When I was in HS, one of my brother’s friend’s wrote me a note with something like this written on it, in Spanish: (this is translated from Babel Fish, since I don’t know a lick of Spanish!)…

I went to our HS Spanish teacher (it was embarrassing!) to ask her to PLEASE translate this for me. She looked at it, and then looked at me and she kind of giggled and said, “I can’t tell you this.” Well, I begged her, and she said that it said: Kiss me quick, for your lips are made of sugar.
Yeah. It was sweet, and he got me… LOL We went out on a couple of dates but it didn’t work out.
And I still want to learn Spanish! And to play the guitar… and a bunch’a other stuff.

I will be ordering Rosetta Stone to learn Spanish, I have noticed alot of job offers that require you to know Spanish, and my son has Spanish next semester, so I am buying it to refresh his memory and learn it easier. I did the trial offer and it looks pretty good. Not cheap though. In our school district, Spanish is required K-12.

When you really listen to his answers, in between his nervous laughs and “you know”s and spontaneous singing, there is so much depth and intelligence in what he says..and I think this is what scares the interviewers… he is not like other “showbiz” personalities who are shallow…so ran out of meaningful words to say to him..so they end up asking stupid questions!!!

He has always been a very concientious young man; very strong and kind, and an excellent leader but missing the arrogance. He’s grown up so much, and we are SO PROUD of him, I can’t even begin to tell you. I miss him so much; I haven’t been able to hug him since November, 2007 
My husband went out in June to see him for a couple of days, but I have been able to visit with him on our Webcam, and we also talk by phone and email regularly. Once he goes to S. Korea, everything will be limited for a year, possibly more if they decide to keep him. I just can’t wait until January when I can see him and spoil the bejeebies out of him, and I WILL DO IT. Oh, yes, I will.

Actually, the webcam is here at the house, and he has one as well at his AFB here in the states. He leaves for S. Korea the end of January and I have no idea how communications will work over there. He already found out that he won’t have any coverage for his current cell phone, gosh darn it. But we’ll do whatever we have to do so we can keep in touch – I would have a tough time if I thought that I couldn’t have some kind of communication with him!

What I love about the Spanish language is that we have a degree in which we use the word Love here. In English you can say I love something and be in a way very casual about it, but when you say TE AMO in Spanish is serious and deep. Example we use 3 words that mean completely different things to translate the way people use the word Love:
Me gustas – Is our version of I like you
Te quiero- Its our version of i love you but use mainly for friends and family and people you care about. I’ll use this phrase to describe my feelings for David. Its more casual than I LOVE YOU.
Te amo- Its usually reserved for the love of your life or you ver close family. When you use this phrase the meaning is very profound.
I hope you understand this because this are the most use phrases in the Spanish love songs!!!

#457, PAM – I actually went straight to a site called One True Media (onetruemedia.com) and it walks you through the process. You can upload your own music, or use what they have on their site. I wanted a totally different song, but it was just over 4 minutes long and I only had just over 2 min. worth of pictures. So I had to make the decision to use a different song, so I picked one from their site. You just upload your photos, too, right to their site and it’s really easy. You can pick where the pictures go, you can choose how long the picture will stay visible on the video. It’s a little bit of work, but it was fun. WELL, it was fun after a while because the first time I tried it, I was all done with the pictures upload when I accidentally closed IE! Lost EVERYTHING I’d worked on.
I had to take a few deep breaths, for sure! lol
I wish I could have jazzed it up a bit, but the song is very special to me and I’m actually glad that I found it. I might try another one some day, when I have some time, and see if I can make it pretty

Yes #455/Marylee & #459/kristin – we can just have the faith in those moves until he gets it. He will grow into them, just like with Stand By Me and when he realizes it’s in his bones and there’s no denying the rhythm, he’ll do it and love it! Right now his focus is the music itself, the showmanship will come later, so watch out!

470/Marylee-EYES??? Really, I hadn’t noticed! NOT!!!!!!!!! He looks so utterly innocent in that picture, doesn’t he? Love it! I don’t remember who has a thing for the nostrils, but I don’t get that one! Although, everything about David’s face is something to obsess about!
While watching David on AI, I loved how “measured” he was while he was dancing; he had some great moves, but they were subtle, yet hip. Know what I mean? He really does have what it takes to be an awesome dancer; I know that he’ll get more comfortable out there with the moves, but I think he’ll always be a bit on the conservative side – and I don’t mind it at all!
471/amy: I always knew he had the dance moves in him from those little dance routines on Idol, but he really proved it with Stand By Me…that was real cute!…and I just know he’s holding back so there’s more where that came from, believe me!…
