David on radio station WNCI this morning
David gave a short interview on WNCI this morning. He noted that during the tour he was busy flying to LA and New York to record his ablum, and they are still in the process of trying to figure out which songs to include. He sends songs to family and friends to get their perspective (David, you can always send them to FOD; we’d be glad to help out). He fielded the inevitable girlfriend question like a pro (“I don’t have time..I’m in my own little world lately…I’m just not in the mode yet for a girlfriend, but I”m sure someday…”). David reported that he is attending EHS (Electronic High School) but is still trying to decide how to finish his senior year: they have been talking to other kids who are in the same situation to get their perspectives. He is in LA now staying with Brooke White and her husband, although Brooke is currently in Arizona, where she recently performed a show.
“He’s the nicest guy on earth,” Dave and Jimmy raved. We agree!

The interview was like 4 minutes only – it was cute, same questions pretty much – he confimed that he has no girlfriend yet!
I am so taking 11/11 off…Actually, it’s a holiday…Veterans Day…so I don’t think we will be working that day anyway…..and I will be at the Walmart…in line…waiting to David’s CD to his the shelves…..can’t wait…..like everyone else….I’m getting shaky just thinking about it!!!

Jenny: I will be taking the day off of work on 11/11 forthis special occasion! I think a live Chat would be cool.We could all listen together and then discuss it!
Jenny – I think a live chat would be fun, but everyone will be listening to the CD at different times probably – are you going to stay up and get it late (are you guys even sure that stores will stock it at midnight?) Are they allowed to sell it before midnight? I know that my local Target often has stock out before the release date, but I’ve never tried to buy it…..

My Walmart closes at 10pm. so I’ll have to get up and get there at 7am when they open. I’m going to download it at midight and then go t o the store in the A.M to buy a few copies.

I plan to go buy several copies of David’s CD at Wally world(at mid-nite) since I live close by. I’m sure I won’t sleep much that night, cuz I will be so caught up in his new songs …GOSH, I CAN’T WAIT!!

I am looking on tier website and don’t see any reference to it. After 2 sips of coffee let me see Nov. 11th. …. I have a crazy friend that will do just anything with me so I will drag her out with me to Walmart. I have to work that day from 8am – noon but if I just don’t bother going to bed I can do it. I can’t switch days because i work with my husband and he will definitely think its time to send me to the funny farm. I think he thinks that already! When I get home from walmart I will download the songs to my ipod and take it with me to work. That will keep me going!

My Walmart is open 24/7. I just hope that our Walmart carries the CD. Still haven’t heard Crush on the radio here. Are there no DA fans in the Northwest??? Am I the only one requesting the song?
I do wish they would stop pestering David about a girlfriend. My son is too busy and frankly doesn’t want the hassle of a girlfriend right now. They do have a way of complicating things. There is so much time in the future for that for David. I love how he is so good at answering their questions about it.
Andrea: On Nov. 11 I really am going to listen for David’s music blasting from a car in the South Hills…a whole album. I’ll know that is you. I’ll be doing the same thing. I can’t wait to walk into a store and see David’s CD on the shelf. I get chills thinking about it!! I might buy all of them!

The other day I posted i had a physical kind of work day and decided it was a David music only day. I had it on my cell so as it was playing I was singing away. Yesterday morning one of my coworkers was telling everybody as he went by where I was working he was hearing ” somebody ” singing. I guess I was the only one hearing my cell phone. I hope I was semi in tune!! We are ertired and RV around th country and work part time at the RV resort to stay free and I was actually in the bath house. I can just imagine the guests going by hearing me. Well like my husband says ” If I am singing I am not complaining”.
I need to vote and get on my way. I whised I could stay and chat. It would be alot funnier that I have to do.

Someone commented on David’s MySpace page that they won’t let their children watch iCarly because the kids on their use “Oh my G**” a lot. I haven’t seen the program, but if that’s true, I would be kind of surprised that David would appear since it would seem to be against his values.

Good morning. I already asked off for Nov. 11. I called our local Walmart yesterday and asked about the cd. They are open 24 hours, but said they usually don’t put out the new cds until 7:00 AM on Tues. morning. The guy in the electronics department told me to call him on the 10th and he will let me know if the demand is high enough to put them out at midnight. If not he said he might be able to put a copy (I want at least 5) under the counter for me to get at midnight. I know of no other Archies in my area so I don’t know if there will be high demand. Maybe I can call Walmart and ask about it from different phones, using different voices, hmmmm.

Kudos to Brook and her hubby for allowing David and his Dad to spend the night at their house. It was very thoughtful of them to do that. I’m sure this gets very costly for them to spend the night in a hotel all the time.

Morning all! I did not get home from work till 2a.m. last night and you all were gone! (go figure) anyway I am off from retial job today (YEAH) just going to my fun job today, so I can lurk and post all day!! My plans for 11/11 is to buy my CD at 12:01. As I mentioned the other day, I work retial so I will scope out my copy, have my finger prints (possibly drull) on it long before midnight then when the clock strikes midnight I will wisk it away to the check outs and pop it in my C.D player in my truck on the way home!! Off to listen to Davids interviews! By for now.

As for 11/11, I will line up at Walmart to get the first copy in the morning after dropping my son to school. Then, listen to the CD over and over again all day… browsing and swooning at all of David’s album pictures.

Does anyone know if you pay in advance for cd’s at Walmart or Target if they will put them aside for you? If that were possible, it would be nice to go in in the morning and see the racks bare, but I don’t want to wait for the Amazon copies.

I see the DJ’s continue to ask the girlfriend questions, you would think that they, of all people would realize that he is too busy to date right now. He is trying to put together an album, do schoolwork and somehow fit in sleep.

Good Morning all: Just listened to the latest radio interview and it made me feel so good to hear the wonderful things said by the DJs about David….one said that he had made fun of him during American Idol, but has an entirely different opinion of him after interviewing him earlier and today’s interview! Just goes to show, if people would just be open minded and take the time to discover what David is really like (not just what you see through a TV screen), the whole world would be enlightened! It seems to be happening one person at a time and that’s OK with me…

David’s Crush was playing on our car cd player, so I didn’t go in with him. There were a bunch of teenagers strolling down the street, so I just turned the radio up full blast to see if they would say anything to me!!!! The real test was Michael Slezak who was very hard on David in his reviews during AI, but immediately following the show, he interviewed him (3 part interview on YouTube – highly recommend it) and has since referred to him as “charming”…just another person who finally allowed himself to see David for what he really is…an unassuming, sweet natured, “what you see is what you get” young man!

Is it browser dependent? (GMAX4- I’m having similar issues). The first interview was wonderful. I just love this guy! He is so genuine, humble and sweet..and yes, absollutely gorgeous as well!
On Nov. 11th, I think a few of us Minnesota gals are going to get together for lunch and celebrate David’s album. If there are any FODs who want in on the fun, here, be sure to let us know!

I just love listening to David’s interviews. He’s so adorable and takes all the questions so literally, (rifle through Brooke’s medicine cabinet? lol) and so the answers are always a surprise to the dj’s and catch them off guard. Just tooooooooo archudorable for words!
Just a marketing thought for all of us on 11-11 for the CD. If you live near a group of fans or can gather one together, you might put a call into the news station and tell them about David Archuleta’s CD coming out, and how you expect a lot of people to be waiting until they are put on the shelf to buy them. Wouldn’t that make for a happy news feature on your local news that morning! Kind of like Harry Potter books….people were waiting in Wal-mart until they put them on the shelves. As Jenny would say…discuss…LOL!

#262 – I know Marylee and isn’t it just the most refreshing, most archudorable thing? i love it cause the dj’s never expect that and they are caught off guard and David has no idea why. It’s such a part of his charm right now. I’m sure as he gets older he will get new archudorable charms, but for now, I am just loving it!

As far as the “girlfriend” question goes, David has had sufficient time to come up with a standard/pat answer to this question (after all we all know it’s going to be asked in EVERY interview)…what he said this morning should suffice….”all my time is devoted to my career right now”….and add something like…”I don’t have time left over for a relationship right now…maybe in the future” (which is pretty much what he said today)…somehow, though, that doesn’t seem to be enough for some people…relentless!
Another reply could simply be “this is classified information”…make kind of a joke out of the subject.

I was also thinking it would be neat to take the radio stations cans of CRUSH !!!! Have you heard Crush on any other station besides KDWB yet??? I just don’t know where the studios are!!! I heard it 2 times yesterday, with only having the radio on a short time!!! I heard it once about 10:30, and again about 3:30. I didn’t listen at all any other time, so don’t know how often they are playing it!!!

David always really pays attention to the person speaking to him…he absorbs the words like a little sponge…a very cute little sponge…ooops I digress….he tries his best to answer the question thoughtfully and acurately…can you imagine being in the position that everything you might say is recorded and dissected…the interviewers don’t listen many times…their attention is fragmented…and that is why it can get awkward…I think of Ryan Seacrest who is really quite good…but he would ask David a question on live AI…David tries to answer it and Ryan talks over him to get to the commercial or whatever…It really bugged me…Larry King another example…never listens…and David’s voice trails off as the interview steams ahead…there have been a couple of really great interviews…and I think they were always women jounalists…that is because they are so hypnotized and mesmerized they let him speak!

weather is good, a bit cold, fall is here but its pleasant, i agree airplay is to low, i emailed local radio station here in canada and they gave this crappy explanation that they were playing it as much as they could, having said that compare to other places in usa, its been played often on our top station, i really dont understand why radio statios r not playing it much including loser ryan seacres.

But I do believe Jive has a plan because One Step a time by Jordin had stalled for a bit and then went back up so it’ll be ok.!

290/Judith: Larry King, in my opinion, is a lousy interviewer…he is always thinking of the next question instead of listening to what the person is saying…also not allowing them to finish their response before jumping in and asking the next question. For someone who has been doing that job for so many years, he doesn’t have it down pat yet!
Welcome to FOD Carlos, let your wife laugh, soon she will realize that there is more to David then what she perceives. Show her that he has won the gold, then she might not laugh at you so much. My husband used to make fun of me, but now he seems to understand me more. He even helped attach the binder of the book of tributes, from the male fans for David. He keep calling me when I went to the Ford Concert, to ask me if I meet David yet and did he get the book yet. So there is hope for your wife yet….
A lesson I have learned in my house hold; if I played too much of David’s music, they didn’t want to hear it. However, if I played it once or twice at different times of the day, they were more willing to listen to it, w/out criticizing his music. Ever hear of the theory, less is more? The results: mom got teased less and my husband and son had more appreciation of David’s music

How do Radio Stations Decide What to Play?
According to the Federal Communications Commission, there are 13,296 radio stations licensed as of September 20, 2002. Aside from the reports of “payola” through indies discussed in the previous section, how do those 13,296 radio stations decide what to play?
Playlists
Radio stations have playlists of songs, which can change weekly. These lists are put together by radio programmers (and others) who use information from many sources to “add” songs. Disc jockeys have not truly been making decisions on what to play for many years. The job falls to the program directors (PDs) who develop lists that direct the DJ on what to play and when to play it. In some cases, the decisions regarding what is played comes from higher up the ladder, especially since so many radio stations are owned by mega corporations. More and more programming decisions are now made by owners and/or regional program directors.

I grew up in Columbus, Ohio (family is still there), and I used to listen to WNCI. I just wrote them an e-mail telling them how much I appreciated the interview. When we get time, it always helps to thank people, even if it isn’t the best interview like some in the past, for having him on. That will maybe help in getting more airplay.
Two of my kids have used EHS (Utah electronic High school) that David mentioned. It isn’t the easiest place to get credits, but it is convenient, since you can do it at your own pace. You can actually graduate completely from the Utah Electronic high school.
Did anyone ever figure out which stores count in the official buying numbers for the CD. Someone said that some stores will not count in that, so it would be nice to know.

haha! So true. David is just very careful when he chooses his words. He’s a lot like my husband. It just takes his mind a minute to process his thoughts and then deliver them in a thoughtful way. I’m a fast person, so I have had to learn to be patient when my husband speaks. But, as with David, its ALWAYS worth it when I pause and listen.
And women journalists do better with being patient, like you said, b/c their minds starts to wander while looking at David’s gorgeousness… ArchuHypnosis

Deciding what to “add” ————
Knowing the audience is the key to a Program Director being able to identify the best music to add to playlists. To stay on top what their audience likes, PDs watch the charts and other stations’ playlists. They may stay tuned to college radio stations, which often play new music that hasn’t made it to the mainstream. They may also keep up with Radio & Records magazine’s “Most Added” report, which it generates from data it collects from radio stations in major markets according to genre. In the past few years, many have also found new music on TV. In the 1980s, MTV changed the music scene; today, we have music-related TV series, traditional programs that use new music, cable channels, and even commercials that introduce new songs and artists.
Radio stations (sometimes working with recording companies, distributors, promoters, artist managers or retailers) also conduct market research to see what listeners either want to hear and/or are already listening to. They test new releases using focus groups or sometimes “call out” groups in Auditorium Music Tests (AMTs). AMTs are held in auditoriums with music played to a group that can then ask questions and make comments on the music. A newer version of this type of research involves Web surveys by which listeners can vote and comment on music.

#352 KL08, My DS’s have done EHS also. The classes are very difficult. It is much easier to take classes at school. My older boys, 2 of them, graduated a year early from HS by taking EHS classes during the summer. My youngest son is taking an EHS science class now, because last year I home schooled him for part of the school day. David will do fine if he takes EHS as his course of study. I also think that David isn’t “missing” anything by not going to traditional HS. He is having life experiences that are amazing. By the senior year, in my experience, school is just something to be tolerated……many seniors have a ton of skipped classes.
Scott or anyone that may know:
Do you think that we should put another big push on buying “Crush” before his album comes out??? I so want him to go Plantimum(sp check) and worry that if we don’t get him there before the album, it may become more difficult!!! Should we have another push to each download and gift 5 CD’s each??? Like “More on Monday…or 10 on Tuesday or 5 on Friday!!! Something to “rally the troops again!!!” What do you all think??? I would do anything to help David get to that next goal!!!

She is a very liberal and opinionated person and I thought she must have bought into the rude stuff that was said about David during AI. Her loss. Elizabeth was obviously a big fan though. Anyway, David was absolutely fabulous when he performed that day. So take that Joy!
My husband does support David too, but I bet he didn’t know how his remark sounded to me. He knows I liked David from the beginning but I think he was a little shocked when I asked him to go to the corn maze. Ha ha.

Want to share a concern. To anyone who can get a message to Team David. I heard a while back that there was a possibility of a second single. Purely from a “fan” viewpoint, I think it would be great as sort of a “backup”, if you will, to “Crush”… I believe it was JeffR who said that, even though the album will contain some great songs, “Crush” is the song that will be played on the radio and my concern is that it was released so early that it will be “played out” by the time the album comes out…tell me my concerns are unfounded.
marylee 422, I think Ellen would change her mind too. I’m ok with her liking Cook, I would just like her to realize what a great person our David is, and meeting him changes peoples minds. Like has been said, “he is the real deal” The interviewer this morning mentioned that he had said mean stuff about David during the show and then he went out to california and met and interviewed him and now he says that meeting David totally changed his mind and that he is the nicest kid on the planet. Same with Michael Slezak. Actually meeting David changed his mind too. Didn’t you just love his three part interview.
I watched the video tribute that was posted above and David just emanates love to his fans and really every one. There is an unexplainable aura surrounding him

They could learn a lot from David just to be natural and just listen to who you are talking to first and react appropriately to what he has to say! Oh well

Please make it stop!! Why are all the interviewers so interested in finding out if David has a girlfriend? He has so much on his plate at the moment. He is focusing on his career right now. When the time is right, I am sure that David will take the time to date and maybe even find a special girl to spend time with. Also, can they please stop asking the question about the whole “stage dad” thing? How many times does David have to say that his dad is great and wants nothing but the best for him. Enough already.
As regards to 11/11, I will be taking the day off from work. It’s David Archuleta Day after all! I plan on downloading David’s album from iTunes and then heading off to Target or Best Buy to purchase his CD. Can’t wait to see what photos made it from the photoshoot and read the liner notes on the CD. I plan on playing the CD over and over again until my family begs for mercy (haha).

Marylee #-465 – Fans are not able to just request a song from an album to a radio station. I remember back when I loved Kelly Clarkson, the fans loved this song ADDICTED and wanted it to get airplay but the Label put their backing into Because of you and Since you been gone. The label usually determines what goes to the stations for airplay unfortunately. They sometimes do a “test” market of songs before they pick.

David said once before he is tired of the Dad question you would think by now everyone would know the answer to that and the fact that he is not dating yet. So come on people try being more creative. At least the last interview they did ask him about school and skipped the dad question. Perhaps we could get an FOD reporter to interview David and we will just send that to all the radio stations to play. Bet we could all come up with good questions for him.
