Interview with Margret Cassidy Robinson, Eva Cassidy’s sister, coming tomorrow!
Exciting news! As many of you probably know, David has mentioned many times that Eva Cassidy is one of his idols–a true musical muse for him.
I interviewed Margret Cassidy Robinson, Eva Cassidy’s sister, over the weekend, and I will be posting that interview tomorrow. Margret will also be joining Fans of David for a live chat interview very soon!
As a lead-in to this interview, I decided to re-post an article I wrote about Eva back in June.
David, this one is for you!
The first time I heard the name “Eva Cassidy” was during American Idol, shortly after David Archueta sang “Imagine” for the first time. During the War of the Original V. Ripoff Arrangements (instigated by disgruntled fans on certain Idol forums and picked up by the media), it was mentioned that David’s version of “Imagine” was based on an arrangement by Eva Cassidy.
Fast-forward to June 24 and David’s appearance on “The View.” Joy Behar asks David, “Who is your musical idol?” David answers “Eva Cassidy” without hesitation, leaving the ladies of The View a bit speechless and baffled. “Who?” says Behar, and then, inanely, “Oh, yeah, she’s a female ,” as if that explains everything. “She passed away,” one of them mumbles in explanation to another. David politely interjects, “She is really expressive, both lyrically and–.” And he is abruptly cut off as they move onto Cook’s idol.
Now even I knew that Eva is an incredibly talented and respected artist who died young, but that’s about it. She is my favorite singer’s idol, for gosh sakes, and I realized I knew nothing about her. So I have learned quite a bit since then, and I’m providing a little tutorial here if you are not familiar with the universe of Eva.
Eva was known for her extraordinary interpretations of folk, jazz, blues, country, pop, and gospel classics. She released two albums in her lifetime: a set of duets with Chuck Brown, The Other Side , in 1992, and a live solo album, Live at Blues Alley in 1996. Cassidy was just beginning to gain fame in her hometown of Washington, DC when she died unexpededly in 1996 of melanoma at the age of 33. Eva By Heart , her follow-up studio album, was released posthumously in 1997, and in 1998 Songbird was released, a compiliation of tracks from her first three recordings. In 2000, BBC Radio in the UK began playing her music, and her songs began charting and selling. Songbird has reached quadruple platinum status in the UK and certified gold in the US.
Let me tell you, you should stop reading here if you are emotional and cry easily like I do, because this woman’s voice will haunt you. While I was listening to her performances on YouTube, my four-year-old daughter came running into the room and said “Mommy! Let’s dance!” She put on my blue high heels that make a clicky-clacky sound and we slow-danced to Eva, and it was one of those moments that I will pull out again and again when I need to remind myself how beautiful life is.
Other gems: Imagine , Fields of Gold (get ready to weep), Songbird , and Bridge Over Troubled Water , to name a few. This is her unofficial website , and if you scroll about 2/3 of the way down on this page , David Archuleta is mentioned as having named Eva his mentor and the person with whom he most like to duet. All of Eva’s albums are available through Amazon (and probably other retailers as well).

Open House Party
The promotion for David Archuleta’s new album will begin soon! The DJs on Open House Party announced that David will be appearing in four weeks–we’re guessing around October 25th–to promote his new album. Open House Party is a big deal, folks! Robin’s Story:
Saterday in Utah was a beautiful fall day at the cornmaze. We met by the gate. One or two coming at a time. We would look at each other and guess that this must be someone for the FOD group and then there were
introductions and hugs all around. It was really fun to talk to people who all feel the same about David. When I was talking to Joanie there really were times when we were finishing each others sentences! Quite
a few of the people I talked to said they have never been a big fan of anyone before and are quite amazed by this phenomenon in their lives. We were a diverse group age and otherwise but we had something special
in common. We “get” David Archuleta and feel blessed that we do. We all recognize his amazingly beautiful voice, but for everyone I talked to, there was something more that people struggled to explain. Perhaps
it is his spirit and soul that has touched all of us, in our own individual ways. I looked around this group and thought what a great group of people these are! These are people who are open to, and able to feel that hard to define special quality that David has. I guess we are “kindred spirits” as Anne of Green Gables would say.
Brett and his wife Cindy and Carla (Richards wife) arrived, along with Lupe and the kids and also extended family. As we walked over to where you start the maze I had a moment to try to express to Lupe how much we appreciate her sacrifice and how much we appreciate David. She said ” He works so hard. He hardly ever has a minute to himself.” A slight pause, and then she said, “He loves it though.” I tried to express that we all, will always support him. She looked at me and said “Thank you so much.” She is truly a lovely woman.
The family went into the maze first and we only occasionly saw them a few rows over or saw the kids running by. Well that gave us FOD ers lots of time to talk and laugh. When we went in we asked the girl at
the booth where David’s lips were. She just burst out laughing and never quit laughing to answer us so we were on our own. We didn’t get a very good map and this thing was huge! We were soon hopelessly lost
but were so busy talking about David that we didn’t pay very good attention to where we were going and kept passing the same markers over and over. Finally we came to an opening and guess what, we were
in the mic! WE WERE THE MIKE! If you know what “be the mic” and “channel the mic” is, and about the “archunuzzle” you know that this is great! Joanie demonstrated the archunuzzle for us. Funny stuff.
Well, we were sooo lost and it was pretty hot in there and we wanted to find our way out. There were kids in there to help you figure out where you were and guess what? We were now at the top of his collar,
on his neck.We screamed and laughed and I’m sure the boys thought we were crazy. Someone said it smelled like cinnamon. jk. We went down his shirt and the mike stand and we found a way out. Lost in Archie,
what an experience!
After, we met to talk and take pictures. Brett is the nicest, kindest guy ever.(his wife too) He said how they hope to maybe have a concert in Utah, maybe in March but there is nothing solid yet. Carla told a great story about how they first met David and his Dad. We all talked and laughed and had just a great time. We (Angie, April) talked about setting up a fan get together on 11/11 to celebrate David’s album coming out. Finally, I just want to thank all of the people I met for making this one of the nicest days ever, especially those I,(Robin) was lost in the maze with,Utaharchie/shelly and sis, joanie and hubby,daisychain/mary, archulettafan (susan?) and hubby, dot, lindsey, bonnie. I hope you all got out and none of you are still lost in
David. Oh well, I guess we are all still lost in David. Isn’t it great!
Judy’s Story:
First of all I want to thank Brett and FOD and the Archuletas for the opportunity to go to the corn maze on Saturday with them and other family and friends and fans. I felt like it was a privilege to spend some time with them. This was family/close friend time and they allowed us to be part of it. Thank you so very much.
I think that most of the FOD group were the first to arrive. We were told to wait by a tent so we gathered there and introduced ourselves to each other – trying to figure out online names and real names, etc. It’s rather odd to introduce yourself to someone as “daisychain….” LOL We spotted Brett in his bright orange shirt by the ticket booth, so we went over and let him know that we were all there. The Archuletas had arrived as well. Then we went back over to the tent to regroup and hear what the plan was. The maze isn’t the only thing there to do – there are lots of activities like slides and games for kids to do and there’s a giant lizard/dinosaur to go through, a little train to ride on for little kids. After everyone kind of split up to do a little exploring, we went over to the maze entrance to go through that together. During the times when we were waiting one or two of us would introduce ourselves to Lupe and talk for a few minutes, or we chatted with Brett. Karla, Richard’s wife, and Cindy, Brett’s wife, shared stories with us. It was fun to just talk face to face with people about David. I admire all of David’s family and friends so much for their love and support over the years to bring him to the point he’s at now.
When I talked to Lupe, I felt shy about even approaching her. But, I felt it was my only chance to thank her in person for sharing her son with us and with the world. So I did. As a mother of seven, six of whom are 20 and older, I understand how one child being away from home changes the complexion of your family. It is hard. Some personalities are especially missed and you don’t feel complete unless you are all together. But that’s life. I didn’t say all that – just a simple thank you – but that’s what I feel in my heart. I also felt, as I watched her with her darling family, how very strong and capable she is. It’s a lot of hard work and sacrifice for the family to support David like they do and like they’ve done for years, really. think it’s so great that they have a strong friendship with Brett and Cindy and family so they can share times like this with Lupe when David and Jeff can’t be around.
Anyway, we all went through the maze in some fashion or another. We kind-of split into different groups. We kept running into each other, though. It was HARD! I should have studied the aerial view of the maze! I hadn’t realized we went in at the side. The only thing we really recognized was when we were in the head of the microphone. We stood in that circle for a while, deciding which way to go. Then I think we wandered around the hand part and the rest of the microphone. At that point some of us went backwards again. I don’t know. We just wandered. You can go up on high platforms to get an overview. Getting up there doesn’t help much but it’s fun to look over the cornfield. You can only see people right under you – and hear voices. Other than that, it’s all corn!
We exited at different times and eventually met up again. We visited and had a group picture, which I hope somebody posts. I took one of Daniel with his arm across his mom’s shoulders, which I thought was really fun to see. Lupe and family posed for a picture in the giant rocking chair, which I got a shot of. Daniel is underneath. Claudia was off with friends, I think. After that I decided to call it a day. I think others stayed longer. I had some errands that I needed to get done.
Anyway, I thought it was kind of surreal to be in such a small group doing something together. It was fun to meet several of you and the brave husbands that also came. It was really nice of Brett to get us all together and give us that opportunity. I did feel a little guilty being there during a family/friend time, but it was fun and I appreciated them letting us be there with them. I was impressed that the Archuletas are a wonderful family – a normal, real family who know how to have fun together.
If I had had a chance, I would have asked this question: Is there any way that I can support David or you or your families in this adventure that you’re on? How can I be a good fan? Maybe that’s too hard of a question to ask, but it’s one that enters my mind a lot. I especially ask that as I blog. I know I can buy the music and go to the concerts and that’s support, but is there anything else I can do? I guess continue to pray for them. That’s always a good answer. But, Brett, if you read this and if you ever think to ask that question and could share the answer to it, I would be really interested. A BIG, BIG thanks again, Daisychain/MaryP.

Thanks everyone for the pics. and stories from the Cornmaze! It sounds like everyone had a great time! It was so great of the Archuletas, Brett and Cindy, and Karla to spend time with David’s fans for a day of fun. Love the picture of the Archuleta’s on the chair! Too bad Davidand Jeff couldn’t be there. Lupe telling Robin how hard David works and has no time for himself is a little sad but as she said he loves it. Things won’t be this hectic forever.

Alot of us are perplexed as to why we only have 432 members of David fanbase giving opinions on heynielsen, considering how huge his fanbase is and why only 76% say they own some of David’s music?
We are in dire need of people going to this site and giving an opinion, once a day or at least 3 times a week to keep David #1 Ranking in music category and bring up his ranking from #4 to #1, in the personality ranking. Please take the time to click below his picture that you own some of his music if you do, 76% seems to be a low number considering how huge his fan base is.
Also, Fans of David is on heynielsen, please enter an opinion via the internet category. This would give them more recognition, and maybe make our fan base stronger for David. After all isn’t this part of our goal?

I have to make a correction, I posted in 14, that we had 432 members, well that’s what it says on heynielsen. However, we only get if we are lucky, 25 opinions a day. This makes it alot of work to keep David ranked at #1 on heynielsen.
This is the reason for our plea for help on heynielsen. So any help would be very much appreciated.

I was checking out Eva Cassidy’s website yesterday and went to Itunes and sampled her newly released album “Somewhere” It is good. Eva, like David, sang a song with utmost passion that rare quality that draws you into the song.

Good morning FODers! Yay for the Eva Cassidy info. After hearing David mention her, I looked her up and checked out her music and she was phenomenal!! I have downloaded several of her songs on my Ipod and they are just hauntingly beautiful. I added her to my myspace (hers is run by her sister I believe) so I can keep up with the happenings. I’m so glad that David has brought such interest in her. She was very quiet, and she, like David, had no idea of the vastness of her talent.
Thanks for all the pics you lucky ducks that got to go to the cornmaze with the Archuletas! Russ, I was like you and at first thought that was David under the chair. Generally, I don’t think David and Daniel look THAT much alike, but they sure do in that picture!
It sounds like some of you don’t think David should do this song, do you think it is too poppy for him? If he is thinking of doing this song; I believe in the Archuleta, he can take a song and make it his own, and make it a masterpiece.

I’m laughing at the cornmaze mic punishment and the person who asked where David’s lips were. Although, whoever the ticket girl was, I’m sure she “gets it”! haha
I would recommend to anyone that they purchase selected Eva Cassidy tracks, I have about 16 or 17 and am going to add several from “Somewhere”, add them to David’s tracks. Then when you have a day that is just too much, put them on, lock the doors, and lay down and just listen. It will melt away all of the stress that has built up. I guarantee you will feel renewed.
Jenny, thank you so much for connecting us to all of this beauty, fun and joy this a.m. I LOVED the Eva Cassidy inclusion. It is wonderful to know where some of David’s inspiration comes from and to see what he has done to them. She is undoubtedly one of David’s real angels.

Pam05 : I got the below definition of what a DEMO is for you. I hope this answers your question. Also like rosepetal said this song is supposedly a leak, so we should not trust that David has recorded it. I do agree if he did record it he would make it incredible. There would have to be some lyric changes though.
A demo version or demo of a song (shortened from the word “demonstration”) is one recorded for reference rather than for release. A demo is a way for musicians to approximate their ideas on tape or disc, and provide an example of those ideas to record labels, producers or other artists. Musicians often use demos as quick sketches to share with bandmates or arrangers; in other cases a songwriter might make a demo to send to artists in hopes of having the song professionally recorded, or a music publisher may need a simple recording for publishing or copyright purposes.
Hi Russ and soozq! Soozq-I was thinking the same thing about wanting to know who is who in the photos. I also agree with those who say that Daniel is starting to look a little more like David. I never thought so in the past, but now that he’s getting older, he resembles David more.
Is there a way to label the photo with all the FODers in it?
Hi Jenny, I too didnt know much about Eva Cassidy until I heard David mention her. Since then I have listened to her music and really loved it. It’s really sad she died at such a young age. Good morning from Ohio! Just wanted to share something that happened on my way to work this morning… I had to take my grandson to school this morning and I turned the volume off on the radio so I could say a few words of encouragement to him as he got out of the car…
as I resumed driving I had this moment of “Oh no, I have the volume turned down, what if Crush is playing!” I immediately turned the volume up and yep, you guessed it, Crush! Ok, either I have developed the hearing ability of a dog, or….it’s just spooky. That’s the second time I’ve heard Crush in the last 12 hours (and I don’t listen to the radio that often). It’s wonderful that it is finally getting more airplay — I’m so excited for David! I really think that David will be getting the best Christmas and birthday present ever this year because I have no doubt that his album is going to be a sensation! Love, love, love this young man, foreverrrr….

When I get determined, I’ll leave it on the local Pop station and I wait and wait and wait…and finally hear it. Frustration!

Glad they are finally realizing what good music sounds like!
I don’t think I have any super-human hearing powers….I think that all of us are just “tuned-in” to David’s magic in some intangible way…that’s why we “got” him so early on. The rest are just catching up. I guess that makes us honor students at the University of Archuleta!

andrea-I’m with you, I like The Spare and could definitely hear David singing that, Domino is ok, but with the magical voice I am sure it too could be a hit. ASCAP has two other songs listed that he is supposed to have recorded, well they have his name listed as “performer” who knows how much, if any of this is true.

To ALL CORN MAZE ATTENDEES: The corn maze experience looked like a blast! I love the pictures! It will be nice when Christy gets the fan page put together so we’ll be able to put more faces with names! Everyone looked like they were having so much fun! The Archuleta family pics were great! After listening to Eva’s rendition of Over the Rainbow, I cannot only feel the emotion she put into it, but can see why others would be drawn in too. I see now why David emotes so well. It gives me a completely new appreciation for him; that a child found Eva’s music at a young age and was pulled into it, is remarkable. I look forward to the interview with her sister. Thank you, to all who were lucky enough to go to the corn maze, for posting picutures and stories. I look forward to reading all later when I can sneek back in from work. When I asked her why she was listening to that she said, “I like it; wasn’t she an American Idol?” I told her yea, from last year. I think she’s coming around from liking the hardcore hip-hop; rap stuff – now that’s a big change.

Have to leave for work so only had a chance to see the announcement about Eva’s sister…I am beyond thrilled…I had so hoped Eva’s family knew about David and how he honors her…I was lucky enough to know about Eva thanks to my friend Sharon in England…she sent me Eva’s music when she became a sensation in the UK. I was stunned that she was an American singer and I had never heard of her…I listen to Eva all the time….I think she and David share so much..their genius…their shyness…their humor….Jenny this is just wonderful news that will float me through this day…Go on You Tube and find “Tall Trees in Georgia”….”Time After Time”….I dare you to listen to her “Danny Boy” or “Amazing Grace” and now feel this woman’s soul….Oh I could gush forever…THNAK YOU JENNY!!!!

I think people if people would just ignore the negative comments, eventually they will stop. These people are just looking for a reaction. This is how it works on heynielsen, we ignore the neg. comments and they eventually disappear off the page, truly this does work.

I wonder what she knows that I don’t know, I have a list of emails, phone numbers and have personally talked to 2 DJ’s in person. One of the DJ’s did tell me however, that if we want him on the radio he needs more spins in order for them to play his music. So I think this might be the key to getting him on the radio in certain areas of the country. Thanks suttygal for sending out a shout-out for me, because I am really getting frustrated here and very disappointed with Mi. radio stations.

She was very popular overseas, when almost no one knew her here in the states ( and what a shame that was)…..that just amazes me how he studied those charts at such a young age…and then added he always likes to know who wrote the song and why…the insite into music….incredible….

I too am glad Domino won’t be on the albumn. I just keep in mind Bretts words about the album and I hope the songs he mentioned will be on it. I am more excited about that than these three songs which I think are just someone trying to get recognized using David’s name.
If you go to Eva Cassidy website and read the guestbook, you will notice many of the guests entries are from all over the world. Even though she has past, she is gaining greater recognition and popularity. Most of us, except David, never GOT her or heard of her until David brought her to our attention. If she were still here and did a duet with David it would for sure be awesome.

#112 Andrea, I know what you mean about Simon and Your The Voice. I loved that David got him back during elimination night withthe phone call segment that was done. David was asked about the song and said he didn’t know why Simon said that because it was one of his favorite songs with a message, then he looked at Simon and said perhaps I took it too far. Simon actually looked like he blushed, he just smiled at David, and David did his cute little slight head cocked to one side look at him. I thougth it was great.

#93, FunnyGirl – Hi there! I’m also from Michigan and didn’t hear Crush for a long time but I was listening to a station that is, um, stubborn. Yeah. That’s a nice way to put it. Stubborn. So, I switched stations – one that’s been a favorite for years – and I heard it for the first time while I was having a garage sale! lol I told the story before – in a nutshell, we heard the song, my daughter and I screamed our heads off, cranked it up full blast, and about 15 of us – mostly strangers in my garage! – were singing Crush at the tops of our lungs.
What area of MI are you in? I’m in Northwestern Lower Michigan (“pinkie” area of the state); it could just be the demographics or maybe you have a “stubborn” radio station! Gaaaahh!!

I just say your comment, I didn’t realize you live in MI. also, we need to somehow get MI. to see the light about David’s music. I have a link for you, its called Savage Garden Request Line. If you scroll down the page, it give a list of States and City’s RS, just do your local RS once a day. It lists emails, phone numbers and links to your local Radio Stations. Maybe if we can get more MI. fans working on these RS they might put on Davids music.

Well, I knew I had ODD, but the extent was not quite clear to me until this weekend. Of course, we have all confessed here that we have Obsessive David Disorder, or we would not still be here reading, blogging, anticipating and cherishing every detail we can of our favorite and adored idol. I have not really, outside the bonds of FOD acted out on this obsession in public. Oh sure I tell people about David and ask them to go on line and read about him, listen to his music and confess my adoration for him, to anyone who will listen, but come on that is really not an obsession, is it? lol Ok so it is. However, this weekend I was having family in from out of town so naturally I went to the store to restock my pantry for them. As I hurriedly walked down each grocery isle, tossing items in my basket, I paused but a moment pondering which type of snacks to pick up. With a quick scan of items, my eyes fell upon a box of nutter butter cookies. Well I did not realize I was just standing there lovingly holding and looking, at the box, just smiling not moving, until someone coming the other way, cleared his throat at me to move, breaking my trance. How utterly embarrassing, they must have thought I was really in love with that box of nutter butters. At this point, I had to put them in my cart and move on, funny I have not purchased or eaten any in years. I guess I will now. lol Have a great day all. Nutter Butter anyone!

Has anybody heard any word on when we might get a David update? As much as I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all the cool posts and I giggled at the cornmaze pictures, I’m just having some serious David withdrawals! I NEED to hear from him…a blog, a vlog, a current picture, anything at all. Who knew what an emotional ride this would be! #152, Pam – Grrrrr… I went around and around with my “top 40″-ish radio station for weeks. I am ashamed to say that I got a little hot under the collar at one point when he said that he couldn’t (wouldn’t) play it because they hadn’t done tests on it. I was like, so, what’cha waiting for? Have you heard this guy sing? Have you followed his progress? He basically said that Crush would have to be in the top 25 to be played – but yet they play others that aren’t in the top 25. So that’s when I said, okay… it’s been nice. I changed stations and WHAM – I heard it within two days. And they play it every 3-4 hours and take requests – gladly, I might add.
I cannot wait until David’s music saturates Michigan and then I’m going to call my former “stubborn” radio station back and say, “Okay, now what’cha gotta say?”
David is so adored up here in N. MI – I really, really hope that when he tours, he can come back to Michigan to see us.

So funny, I know the feeling. I was with my hubby a few weeks back, we were in a hardware store. One minute I was with my husband shopping and the next minute, I was quickly walking away from him to hear what I thought was David on the Radio. lol
When I got close to where I could hear the speakers, I realized it wasn’t David singing Apologize after all, I got so used to him singing it in Concert, my mind thought he should singing it on the radio. I don’t know who was singing it, but it wasn’t David though. He kind of sang it like David, the same style any way, but it clearly was not David. No one can sing like David, he is in a class all his own.

The chart below, Mainstream Top 40, is updated very often but please notice a steady decrease in radio plays (from over 700 to above 400). No new stations were added in several weeks. The AC and HAC present a pretty bleak picture as well. We need to keep Crush on radio until November.

I have always felt things happen for a reason we can’t understand and for a long time I have felt we, all of us here at FOD, are here for a reason, not just to chat about David and his music, but something more. Don’t laugh, but I feel that David is our connection to understanding how mankind has strayed from God’s intention and how he meant for us to live. David does that through his music and his example. Being paired with Eva Cassidy and others that write and sing songs with a message just seems right.

220/russ- You don’t need to worry about any of us laughing, for me personally, at times I find it all very overwhelming…I have many “what just happened” moments. I now believe that for whatever reason my somehow finding my way here to FOD was far from an accident. I’m not a religious person, spiritual yes, and I have often wondered if I was just zapped by something bigger and more powerful then I am!!

soozq – I have not been “busted” that I know of…..I had a lurker de-lurk once at rickey’s and basically told me that she thought I was a terrible person…..that hurt. I have struggled with this ODD for so long now, and with the “non-motherly” feelings that I first felt after WYB. It has been a long journey full of guilt, despair, anguish, passion, power and glory. I’ve never been so full of pain and pleasure at the same time. After months of this mess, I came to my “happy place” with it all. I don’t know how it happened, but I have embraced this jumble of emotions, I believe in my heart that this is good for me, and I know that God knows my heart and my intentions. David Archuleta stirs my soul and has made my life more colorful and bright. My senses come alive when I hear his magical voice, and my entire being is filled in ways that I have never felt before. About his looks – I wish eveyone would just acknowledge and accept the fact that he is beautiful, inside and out, and that IT IS OK to say it! I’m not hung up on his age anymore – I think he transcends age, time, space, race, and religion! I don’t think it is disrespectful to gush about him, I just don’t. But that’s just my opinion – everyone has one. I love David Archuleta, from the tips of his spiky hair on down to his burrito torso to his fabulous shoes, and everything in between, next to, and inside his sweet soul. I’m not embarrased, I’m not ashamed, and I’m not apologizing for it. At the same time, I want and try to respect other people’s feelings.

It really only takes a few minutes a day and you can only post a new opinion every 24 hours. If you get into a routine where you do this about the same time each day, it becomes habit. It is also enjoyable to hear things that others have to say about David. Sometimes they post pictures or youtube videos as well. Come on my fanatic friends…..this is your written invitation

Yea, and could have seen him and Jason on the Mon River to in the Kayak…..I can literally go out the door where I work and throw a stone in the River…I just knew I should have been checking out the streets of Pittsburgh that Monday before the concert….can you imagine…me getting pics of Jason and DA on the Mon River in kayaks….I always wanted him to post his pics, but he never did……
Just went to the other site to read about him going to the concert. I am so happy for him to get to do that. He should go to lots of concerts! You are right, you never know how your words are going to be interpreted and the slightest, off comment no matter how harmless it was meant can send a site into a spiral downward with feather flying and such. OMG, what the heck is happening to the stock market? This is such awful news. I’m at the library guys, cause my computer crashed at home on Saturday night, late. I was clicking on different sites, looking at pics of “Crush”, and my computer just went blank, and started popping and clicking something awful. Let me tell ‘ya, how sick I feel, like I lost both arms, without feeding the ODD for almost 2 days now. Be careful what you click on guys, I picked up some bad viruses, and I don’t even remember what site I had clicked over to. pretty scary stuff. A techie is coming over later this afternoon to check out my computer. let’s hope the stock market gains some ground before the end of the day. ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I also didn’t know about Eva Cassidy until David mentioned her. After looking her up and listening, I clearly understood the appeal. Like David, Eva has a voice that draws you in while everything else around you seems to disappear. When they sing, it’s like time stands still. Amazing! Hey, guys! I was just posting my corn maze story for Jenny (on her email) and decided to pop over for a moment to see what kind of trouble you guys are getting into. All my Saturday chores were left undone so today I am frantically trying to catch up. I still seem to have my buzzy headache today, but I have figured out that it is a combination of; no sleep the other night, fitful sleep since then, extreme excitement about meeting my FOD BFFs from Utah on Saturday, utter happiness and joy at the prospect of meeting as many of you as possible in Utah for a get-together (in March? I hope), and my icky allergies! Anyway, I have made myself a list of goals to achieve today and I am checking them off as they are accomplished. Chatting with all of you is on there but I MUST be strong today! I MUST get some things done around my house! I’m trying to convince myself. All of you are on my list, but I will feel less rushed and guilty if the things on my list are all checked off first. Hey, I have an idea, maybe I can tell my husband it’s his night to cook! How do you think that will go over? (My husband’s idea of “his night to cook” consists of opening a cold can of pork and beans, another can of cold niblets corn, and standing at the kitchen counter savoring every bite- from the can!) Eeww! Never mind, I’ll make dinner tonight.
Anyway, LOVE you all…will try to pop in at intervals and still maintain my resolve to check,check,check everything off my list, and then join you all later. After all, I am W.O.M.A.N.! I can do Anything, right!?! lol

You won’t believe what I did today. My daughter and I KAYAKED on the Mon, and Allegheny, and Ohio. It was so much fun and I felt close to David. I know it was one of the highlights of his whole tour. On the way home we heard Crush and it was the song of the hour…..again on

archiecrat, when we lived there, we did the river boat cruises several times. It was great fun. In the fall, they used to have a fall foliage cruise on the Gateway clipper. It was gorgeous.

Firstly of all to those who made it out of the corn, I was living vicariously throught you with every step. It’s a shame that Utah is experiencing a heat wave of sorts, but don’t worry the snow will be there soon enough. From what I read, a great time was had by all.
Secondly, I was trying to guess who the interviewee would be given that David has mentioned a few musical influences during the past 9 months. To have the opportunity to read about Eva Cassidy, well that I didn’t think of. I’ve been a big fan of Eva’s for some time now and I have to say this lady would have had the career David is destined for had she not tragically died at such a young age. My favourite Eva tunes are Fields of Gold, You Don’t know Me (with Chuck Brown), Somewhere, and I could keep listining songs since they are all so good. I didn’t think that I would ever love the song At Last by anyone other than Etta James, but Eva blew me away. I am so looking forward to this interview and live chat!!! Thank you Jenny not only for your efforts in orchestrating this interview for us, but for realizing that Eva Cassidy’s music deserves to be heard by a vast multitude who can appreciate good music.

Happy Monday afternoon everyone! I was on earlier this morning and when I came back, it took me about one hour to read through comments. I finally got to the end, refreshed, and I had another about 75 to go through. Thank you Jenny for stopping by with a very good and clarifying announcement at #388. I love FOD, and I want all people who visit , frequent, or live here, to feel as welcomed and blessed as I always have here. We come from many areas, many backgrounds, and many walks of life, and although nothing is ever perfect, I’d like to think of us as a home where we can come to share, laugh, cry, and love, and be ourselves as we work to support and celebrate David. As in any family, some will establish closer relationships and bonds than others, but we ALL have an important and UNIQUE role here. I’d like to think our door is always open, and if a knock seems to go unheard or unanswered by the crazy group who lives within, then knock a little louder or ring the bell so we can give you a real welcome.. the kind of welcome we’d want to give if David himself was knocking at the door! LOL
BTW- I do have one “beef” with the WIKEPEDIA entry regarding David. Why haven’t they recognized the LARGE group of moms/ grandmothers, and guys who have vowed their undying love and support for him? Just check the numbers in Jenny and Becky’s recent demographics fan poll. I know the teens love him, but I’ve gotta say, I felt a little left out…actually a lot left out! LOL

Is anyone else having a problem with the green border getting in the way of the comments today? On our older computer at my house, the site doesn’t even show the pretty green textured border. It’s just all white. I don’t have the same comment/green border overlap problem on that one. -Don’t like to use the old computer tho cause it’s slower than me..oops I mean a dinosaur!

I apologize for this long post, but some of you have been wondering what the “close encounters” talk is about. I copied and pasted a synopsis of the plot from the movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” for you young-uns that may not have seen the movie…
In the Sonoran Desert, Claude Lacombe (François Truffaut) and David Laughlin (Bob Balaban), along with other government scientific researchers discover a lost squadron of World War II aircraft. The aircraft are still and intact and perfectly operational, but the pilots have disappeared. In Air Traffic Control Indianapolis, Indiana, two flights have a near miss with a UFO. In Muncie, Indiana, three year-old Barry Guiler (Cary Guffey) is led out of his house when his toys start operating automatically, forcing his mother Gillian (Melinda Dillon) to chase after him. During a large-scale power outage, Indiana electrical lineman Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) experiences a close encounter of the second kind, and is soon caught in a motorized pursuit of four UFOs. He becomes obsessed with UFOs, much to the dismay of his wife, Veronica “Ronnie” Neary (Teri Garr).
Roy begins seeing the image and soon begins making scale models of a distinctive butte, a place he has never seen and is unfamiliar with. Gillian also becomes obsessed with the mental picture of a unique-looking mountain. Soon after, Gillian witnesses a UFO landing, in which Barry is abducted by unseen beings. After Roy’s increasingly eccentric behavior causes Ronnie to abandon him, taking their three children with her, he sees the feature he has been modeling on a television news show: Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming. Guiler also sees the same news broadcast, and both Roy and Jillian, as well as others with similar experiences, obsessively head toward the site. Elsewhere in the world, the pace of UFO activity is increasing; Lacombe and Laughlin investigate a host of occurrences along with other United Nations experts. Eyewitnesses report the UFOs to make distinctive sounds: a five-tone motif.
After Laughlin recognizes a signal from outer space as a set of geographical coordinates pointing to Devils Tower, all parties begin to converge on Wyoming. The United States Army evacuates the area, using false reports that a train wreck has spilled highly dangerous nerve gas, all the while preparing a landing zone for the first human contact with the UFOs and their occupants. While the other humans drawn to the site are unable to reach Devils Tower, Roy and Jillian persist and make it to the site as dozens of UFOs appear. The enormous mother ship lands, returning people who had been abducted over the years, including Barry. With an understanding of peace between the two civilizations, Roy is taken onboard the ship as an ambassador from Earth, and one of the UFO occupants comes out to greet the humans. Lacombe communicates with it by using the hand signs that are used to create the five tones in the human contact. The UFO occupant does the same and smiles before it boards back on the ship, which then lifts off.
I don’t remember the exact discussion about “close encounters” on this site, but my take on it is that some FODers believe that there
are many uncanny similarities between the movie and David Archuleta:
1. We (the obsessive fans) are being inexplicibly drawn to the mothership (David)…
2. We feel an uncontrollable urge to gather in a centralized location (Murray Utah)…
3. David (like the ET’s) uses music to communicate with us…
4. Our significant others may (probably) view our behavior as obsessive and eccentric…
5. Some FODers have felt an obsessive need to make scale models of what appears to be a chair-shaped formation, using whatever
material is at their disposal (for some reason chapstick seems to be the medium of choice)…
I, for one, think it’s an entirely sound and reasonable theory, don’t you? Beam me up, David!

andrea- my daughter claims that Kayak Pittsburgh is the only one that there is so that has to be where David and Jason went. It would make sense that when they were running it was along the riverwalk which takes you right by the kayak place. When I met David in Cleveland I gave him a t-shirt (black and gold) with a neat kayaking graphic on the front to remember his “good day” in Pittsburgh. I would LOVE to see a picture of him wearing the shirt.
