Brett Update: Chinese food; Lupe and the Archu-siblings; Album cover photoshoot; Songs on the debut album; David coming home soon; Corn maze; David’s reaction to the certain wardrobe choices in the “Crush” video. WHEW!
I spoke with Brett Hales (a close family friend of the Archuletas) recently and talked to him about All Things Archuleta. I have to feed the FOD’ers, after all; they are a hungry bunch (I’m including myself in that bevy). So here we go…
Have you been able to spend any time at all with David since the conclusion of the tour?
No, not a lot of time…we got home Sunday and the next evening (Monday) we spent the evening with their immediate family, yes, that includes David and our immediate family…we had a Chinese dinner from the Asian Star…has become tradition with the Hales/Archuletas. We had it brought in and then we had a wonderful Family Home Evening together. Our daughter Ashlee shared a beautiful message about following the spirit at all times. We sang a couple of songs, notice WE, not just David…all of us sang…then we just hung out and had a great evening together!
How are Lupe and the Archu-siblings?
Lupe and the kids seem great! School’s started and everyone seems to be doing good…in saying that, it’s obviously hard to have your husband/father and sibling gone so much, but they deal with it quite well. They have lots of support here!!!
What do you and Cindy think about the album cover? Did you see other pictures from the photoshoot?
We absolutely love the album cover! I’m sure David had the last word, but Jeff and Lupe were definitely involved also and probably the recording people. We saw some of the other pictures…they were pretty awesome looking…similar to what you can see on [the YouTube video]. It seemed like it was in the Bronx area and we saw several pics of David standing on a ladder…probably some of my favorites were on the ladder. He took quite a few serious looking pics and they were some of our faves…I don’t think we initially saw the one that’s on the cover, but one that was similar to that look was our fave! Most of these pics were a more mature David look…
If you have heard possible songs for the album, what is your overall impression? Any hints for us?
We have heard several songs on the album…my impression…well a few made me cry…now that’s embarrassing to admit…I was overcome with one of them…big time! Seems like so many had these beautiful and meaningful messages…no surprise there! One was a little bit “attitude-y”…if you know what I mean and it may have been one of my faves…I think it was! I was floored how good all the songs that I heard sounded! I don’t know why I’d be surprised, but I was pleasantly surprised! Yes Pop and Rock of course! Of course we don’t know if any of the songs we heard will actually go on the album! I assume some will…
Will David be coming home to Utah soon?
Yes, David will be coming back to Utah soon…for his privacy we don’t pass on when, but he definitely will get to spend some time home…I hope he gets to rest and play!!!
Are you going to visit the corn maze?
Yes, we are planning on going soon with the Archuletas (minus David and Jeff).
Anything else you would like to add?
I have to tell you that I had the opportunity of watching the Crush video in advance. There were a couple of parts that showed a close up of this young girl doing a cart wheel in her swimming suit. I remember thinking, that shot looks a little too close with her swim suit on…purely my feelings…not anyone else. Then when the “real” one came out…there’s that same young lady, doing that same cartwheel and she has shorts over her swim suit and there was only one shot of her, not two, like I had seen previously! I called Jeff and said what’s up with that…he said “David said this video represents him”…that’s all I’ll say, but can you believe this “Kid”…17 yr old “Kid”…who is he? I love this kid (young man) more and more and more and more…my kids, some are older, some close to his age and some younger…have known David for a long time and their respect for him keeps increasing!!! When will this ever stop? We hope NEVER!!! Plan on it…NEVER!!!

Update on Thank-You Project
Thank you so much to those of you who submitted videos or pictures for the thank-you video for David. Over 155 of you! WHEW! The project is coming along nicely, and I plan to post the video next week. I think David’s going to love it! Note: some of the captions for the pictures were a bit long, so I had to exercise some editorial privilege.
Results of Demographic Poll: Who are the FOD’ers?
We are a diverse group! Perhaps this won’t surprise anyone, but of the 1,388 fans who responded to our age/gender poll, 82% were females:
20%: Females 45-54
16%: Females 35-44
15%: Females 12-17
12%: Females 18-25
11%: Females 55 and up
8%: Females 26-34
5%: Males 18-25
4%: Males 12-17
2%: Males 45-54
2%: Males 35-44
2%: Males 55 and up
2%: Males 26-34
Less than 1%: Females and Males 12 and under
While our male contingency is spread pretty evenly across the age demographic (with a slight edge to the college-age males), our female fans are comprised mostly of women age 35 and up, although I was pleased to find that there were many more teenage and college-age females visiting FOD than I had predicted. The big surprise: where are the women aged 26-34?
As far as region is concerned, 76% of our fans responding to the poll are from the United States, with 30% of those USA fans located in the East North Central or Pacific regions. Canada and Eastern Asia had a large response as well, but what thrilled me that EVERY CORNER OF THE WORLD was represented with the one exception of Africa. This provides a nice segue to the next section of this blog…
David on the International Scene: Malaysia
Here is a special note from Jolene O. in Malaysia:
I just like to let you guys know David is BIG here in Malaysia too. Last week there was a radio station named Flyfm that made the whole week as “David Archuleta Week” because of the overwhelming requests for David’s Crush. So they decided to make all the Arch Angels happy by lettng us indulge in our Archie Fan moments to the max.
Here’s the link to what they had during the Archuleta Week and what the deejays have got to say about David, oh they LOVE David too!!! And they said there’s nothing wrong for a guy to like David’s music…in fact, there was a guy listener that sent them a message saying that David got him to listen to radio again!!! You guys really have to check this out.
So in return the fans sent a lot of gifts to the radio station which really touched them as how nice Archie fans can be Here’s the link to the pictures of gifts and messages from the fans, the deejays made these photos, it was really sweet…
Hope you guys enjoy this news as much as all of us here in Malaysia. David’s love for music has spread all over the world, there’s no turning back, ODD is getting worse here

Angela’s Story:
Well, should I go, should I not go, should I go, do I have money to go, NO! but you know what? Sometimes you just have to do what you feel in your heart and going to Tulsa was one of those things. My gracious husband said, “GO”. With a little prodding from Shari & Kalei, I said, “I am going!” (also knowing that this was going to be my Christmas / birthday / mothers day gifts for at least the next couple of years, but hey all worth it!!)
My good friend Julie (who is now a Castroleta) and I traveled from LA with a connecting flight in Phoenix. In Arizona I was able to meet up with Shari (what an awesome person and my new buddy!) Julie and I met Shari at the Los Angeles concert back in July. We both were a little disappointed with that concert. Not that it wasn’t amazing to hear David sing, but the fact we didn’t get to meet David. In Los Angeles David never came out for the meet and greet, bummer, yes! After the concert we rushed outside to find that there were about 100+ other people there waiting. David did come out, but right when he was making his way towards us, Ray whisked him away. Awe… Bye David!
“That was it”, I thought. I never did get to tell him Thank You! (I really needed to tell David thank you, because he really helped me, as I am sure a lot of others, thru a hard time in my life the beginning of the year.)
When arriving at the lovely Doubletree Hotel – Shari, Julie and I were at this point pretty giddy. I started to walk in thru the revolving door with my suitcase in tow, only to find that my bag was stuck in the door. I was laughing so hard and probably looked like a dufus. I looked up to find that all these people on the stairs were most likely getting a good laugh too. I finally made my way into the lobby and looked over to my right. Who do you think I saw on his cell phone? “Richard!!” I practically yelled it. He came over and gave me a hug as I introduced myself. Within minutes all those people on the stairs walked over. Yep, Karla and April and the rest of the FOD gang! A little embarrassed by my trying to get in the door fiasco, but there were hugs all around! It was amazing to see everyone in person. It was like we had known each other forever.
The rest of the evening was great! We were off to El Guapo’s – home of the saucy burrito! We got to sit at the same table that David Cook’s band was sitting at right before we were there. We also learned some cool facts about Cook from the waitress who new someone, who knew someone else and there was something to do with Cook’s roommate involved too. LOL Yummy food though!
Bowling any one! It was 11:30pm and we went bowling – some good advice – never follow Richard in the car!! Scary! And watch out for skunks! Getting to the bowling alley was an adventure in itself. Bowling was a blast! And NO I am not a “Bowling Queen” I just happened to have a magical ball that night – ha ha! At the bowling alley Kalei arrived from Hawaii -YAY!! (Such a sweet person!) and the rest of the FOD gang that drove in from Texas. WOW! More hugs!! I was just amazed at how we all connected, these are some wonderful people!
Saturday was David Day!! My dream of meeting and telling David Thank You was in sight. We all walked down to the BOK together at about 11am. We all had our David shirts on, gifts in hand and Kalei’s awesome Starstruck poster. WOW lots a people were there. Flashbacks of the LA concert were in my head. Jen had staked out a good spot for us, but than hysteria broke and everyone went running to the other side of the building. Well I think it was security planning there little strategy so they could set up the barricades. Anyway, a lot of running was involved. Finally we got our spot (barely) in the front. Julie and I were hanging on for dear life afraid to move an inch or we may loose our ½ inch of space, but we managed. Awe, there he was, David! He came out all smiles and waving. He started down on the one end and was taking his time with everyone, laughing and smiling like no tomorrow. As he started getting closer to our FOD group, the little space around me started getting smaller and smaller. As I was being shoved into the railing (I have bruises to show for it) I quickly handed him my gift and gave him a picture to sign. I than moved feverishly out of there. I wanted to let someone else have a turn with David. But wait, dang it! I forgot to tell him what I came there to do – thank him! My 4 seconds with David came and went in a blink of an eye.
Concert Time – The concert was amazing! The Idols all did great! But David, well we all know about David. Gosh, he just takes your breathe away when he sings! He has a power and radiance to his voice that grabs you and pierces your heart and soul. I was in tears. Just so proud of how far he has come, all the accomplishments he has made up to this point, and just thinking of the bright, bright future that is ahead for him. I didn’t even take pictures of his set because I wanted to be able to take it all in, and I did!! (Thanks Jen for taking pics for all of us!!)
The After Party – (still in tears thinking about this!!) I was speechless. Knowing I now had my chance to say what I needed to say to David. This was the moment. I waited patiently to meet him. As I stood there waiting my turn – you could just see the glow on David’s face and his smile just lit up the room. It was my turn, YAY! I straight out said, “Hi David I am Angela and I just wanted to say Thank You – you are truly amazing!” And David said, “Awe thanks!” he probably thought I was nuts, because I said it so fast, but I got it out! Than he said, “have you met my grandmother, she is here from Florida”. I said, “Oh that is so special she was able to be here for your last show”. He said, “oh sorry that was random” – ha ha! (That’s our David!) I than quickly had him sign a couple more things and got a picture with him. Just amazing!! As I walked out of the room I stopped and talked with Jeff – what a great guy. He sat and talked with me, Shari and Julie for about 15 minutes. He was just so easy to talk with and so kind hearted. I also was able to run over and meet Lupe, so beautiful and sweet. She loved to here about my kids. I just applaud her for all that she has been thru these last 9 months as well. What a strong women she is. As the lights started flickering on and off – our David was the last of the Idols to leave (of course). But we were all able to get one last hug and say our goodbyes. I told him we could not wait for his SOLO tour in 2009 and he just giggled – ha ha!
To top this whole weekend off we were so blessed to have been able to hear Richard play the piano and sing in church on Sunday – absolutely amazing! More tears and Kleenex!!
I have been on chat since the beginning of the “nameless” fan site, and to have been able to meet some of you after so long will be something I will treasure. I feel that I have been touched by Angels. These past months on this American Idol journey with David has been nothing like I have ever imagined. David is not only an amazing talent, but he has brought so many of us together from all over the world. That is something pretty dang special!!!! There are other special Angels hanging around too. None of this could have been possible without Richard, Karla, April, Becky, Jenny, Gail and all the MODS. Thanks for making this the best of the best fan sites for David. You have created this special E-family that I will forever cherish and I am proud to be a part of. I can not wait to see what is next on this wonderful “David” journey!

Thanks Jenny for posting that interview with Brett. David truly is one of a kind. I love how he had the video “moderated” by having the girl put shorts over the swimsuit, saying it represents him. I love how he sticks to his standards and can not be swayed! Go David!

#4 hollyre I have been wanting to know the same thing. The Walmart here is open 24 hrs. I have been meaning to ask if it will be available at midnight because I will be there waiting for the clock to strike twelve. I will be going there today and will ask the electronics department and post what I find out.

Thank you for posting that interview with Brett! It is all so fascinating. The fact that David seemed in control of his video, speaks volumes. If anyone ever doubts if David knows what is best for him…DON’T. He is so sure of himself, what he wants and where he is going. The part about Brett being in a wheel chair and his house being filled with a spirit when David was there, just made me cry. When I listen to David sing, no matter what it is, I get this feeling in my chest. It is so hard to explain, so I won’t even try, but it is so powerful. David is so very gifted in so many ways. I know it has all been said before and we sit in wonderment of “this kid”. Thank you God for David Archuleta…the light this world was so sadly missing.
David is so incredible…He always stays true to himself and what he believes in (regarding the shorts being put over the swimsuit scene) After reading that interview with Brett, I really can’t wait for November 11th! It sounds like ithe album is going to be amazing, even though we all know it is going to be amazing.

Thanks for the info, Brett. In this day and age, it really makes you sit up and take notice of someone who will stand up for what they believe in, without the slightest hesitation or apology. Then, when you consider that David is only 17 and has it this together, it’s dang amazing!
He will certainly continue to make an impact on many, as he has on all of us, over the course of his long career.

I just fininshed reading Brett’s update on what is happening in Davidworld. It warms my heart to hear that David gets opportunities albeit rare ones, to spend time with his family and close friends. Given what Brett had to say, it is no wonder that David’s character is unimpeachable. He has so very many close supporters to keep him safe, grounded and hopeful for the future.
I am so very grateful to be one of the multitude watching David live out his dream in real life. Thanks Brett – your words never cease to humble and inspire me!

#15 Judith: Thanks. It is so hard to put into words most of the time the effect David has on you. I wish I were good with words like our dear Jenny. I know we fans are a wild and wonderful group and we can get carried away at times *wink*, but when it is all said and done, our love for David runs very deep. It’s not about how he looks (THUD) or what he has on, but what is inside the gorgeous exterior we see. There are so many facets to David that make up who he is and each and everyone one of them are so wonderfully unique. He is a blessing both musically and spiritually.

♥Wow! Thanks Jenny for the great stuff on this Saturday morning. I’m getting overwhelmed after seeing David hit #15 @ VH1 Top 20 countdown, what made it more exciting was spending the moments with the FOD’ers…what an awesome moment.
♥Brett description and experienced with David was a touched by an Angel, I kept saying this “touch by an Angel”, because David is an Angel…his perception and purpose in life is to look upon to, like our guardian angels around us…I have not seen anyone like him in this industry…only one word 4 me “AMAZING”…and, YES Brett I planned it long time ago “NEVER” will I lose respect to this AMAZING young man-past, present, and future. Thanks Brett for sharing and the update…and thanks for giving me such a big warm hugs in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I knew you will not remember, but I got 2 hugs from you, one from Lupe, one from Grandma, one from Jeff, lots and lots from the Angels, and bottom line, four from David!!! I was one lucky girl that night, and this hugs will last for a lifetime, until eternity if I may say so. ♥♥♥

Thanks so much to Brett for everything you do and for sharing all your experiences!
My dad was diagnosed with M.S. when my mother was pregnant with me … 44 yrs ago. I understand the difficulties of M.S. VERY well. He, like you, took a positive attitude and let it make him a stronger person …. using the time when he could no longer work, to improve the lives of others. He actually saw M.S. as something to remind him to be humble. The example you set reminds me a lot of my father. He died the night after the finale (after numerous hospital stays … each time doctors telling us that he probably wouldn’t make it.) Doctors only PRACTICE medicine … it’s our family and our friends and our faith that keep us strong and really get us through. My dad lived to have 23 grandchildren, having a close relationship with each one, and even became a great-grandpa this past December. David helped me remember the last time my father and I were able to say we loved each other, right before he left this life. A very precious memory to me, and one that I will always hold close … until I can tell him again.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thanks again!!

Jenny, please thank Brett on our behalf for little insights into Archuworld. It seems as if every day there is more and more to admire – hard as that is to imagine. Speaking of which, David’s Imagine at the Ford Day remains one of my daily vitamins – I must listen to it everday. I first heard it through the cellcast static of Rickey’s and despite the bad quality, David’s voice was able to pierce through to the point that it brought tears to my eyes. David has an UNBELIEVABLE voice and talent and all I know is that he uses it to transport happpiness and incredible joy to us all.

#20 Wendy – Well said. I feel so much to same way. Since first hearing David I was sucked in by his voice, but since I have become filled with all else that is “David Archuleta”. Hard to explain it to myself, but even harder to explain it to others.
I got an email from a friend the other day who went with me to the Cleveland concert. She was a Cook fan, but came away with a great admiration of David A. In her email she said, “I only WISH I felt that passionate about something!” referring to my love of David.
I think I’m with Scott and Hollyre, November 11 would be a great day to spend with FODers and just focus on all things David. I’m gonna make it my personal David Archuleta day! Off to do real world stuff (boo, hiss) and be back later. Y’all have fun!

ok, i feel as if im spamming this thread with my posts but i just had to say KUDOS to Jolene and all Malaysian Archies. YOU ANGELS are AWESOME!!!! And I LOVE your DJs! How i wish our local DJs here in the Phils were half as great as yours. But we do have some DJs here who love our David. But just not as loving and nice as the ones you have over there. Thanks so much Malaysian Angels for your love and support for our Angel! I really hope he’ll include our countries in his world tour soon!

I love the pics of David cuz he always looks amazing when it is taken by the fans . Angela love the story and that you got to talk to David at the AP unfortunately I wasn’t so lucky . It’s great you got to see him perform at his very last concert cuz from what I heard on the crappy reception at Ricky’s it was one night that was unforgettable becuz this was the long journey for David that started with the auditon in San Diego , CA and finished off his emotional journey on that stage in Tulsa , OK makes me just want to cry cuz he has gone so far in the past year . In the end I am happy the tour ended he can finally finish his long awaited album that I will buy the soon it hits the store shelves and hoping that he gets some sleep while he is in LA working on his record <- I say this cuz it seemed he has no time to just rest on tour and when I saw him in concert he did seem a little tired . I guess this is me getting a little overprotective of David becuz I don’t want anything bad to happen to him . Anyway , I am definitly so excited to finally buy it on November 11th but it does seem so far away . Idk maybe it is my ODD wanting it like right now and yes I will say the fans were a little spoiled with the tour vids of David cuz when the tour was over no one could talk to Jeff and ask about what is going with his album ( you know like collaborations and what type of songs will be on it etc etc ) before it is released in Nov. and get some amazing videos , stories , and pictures to read about their David experience or any stories about him even if it wasn’t tour related ex Chiptole Story (fyi one of the most random stories I heard on idf and one of my top 5 random David meeting I have heard while he was on tour ) where a girl named Sammi ran to the restaurent when her mother saw him ordering lunch there but the crazy thing is that if her mom didn’t buy drinks for that hot summer weather their woulnd’t be random David meeting like that . I tought that story was kind of cool becuz he was suppose to be signing outside and instead he was right across street ordering lunch . Anyway , if anyone has seen that picture of that meeting it is so cute cuz David is still on his phone and having that wonderful smile while waiting for his lunch lol . I guess the final I want to say is that I want it to be more like January than November cuz I want to see David perform live on tour so badly cuz I haven’t seen him live in concert in like 2 months . I know I am being shelfish saying I need to seem him on tour now becuz I know people out there haven’t even seen him live but it is primarily me having my ODD wanting be fed after the Ford Show and no other performances were going to happen for awhile that made me a little sad . I guess from this comment you can see I am getting a little impatient ( ok really impatient ) idk I tend to want things now instead of waiting but I know it will pay off in the long run cuz the album willl even more amazing when it is not rushed by Jive / David and actually put time and care of the record so it will sound fantastic when it is released . My new favorite date for the moment November 11th . ~crusher08

I enjoyed reading the interview with Brett. Getting a little up close and personal glimpse of David and his family from a family friend is a real treat. Brett stating that some of David’s songs brought him to tears was confirmation for me of what I already suspected — David’s CD is going to rock the world and reduce us all to a quivering pile of mush. Also, I am not surprised to learn that David wanted to make sure the video represented him…he is an amazingly grounded young man to be able to stand up for his beliefs and values when dealing with the pressures of the music industry to “sell” yourself at all cost.
I have the utmost respect and admiration for him and his family. Congratulations to Jeff and Lupe for a job well done! Thanks Brett for sharing with us — I will keep you in my prayers!

Thanks FOD and Brett for the update! I am SO happy he will have a little time for R & R. I hope he can go places in public and not be mobbed- but guess the odds of that are getting less and less… The other day John said he felt David was his “little brother”…. I think we all have adopted David in our hearts, which Ryan Seacrest realized early on, we would want to do!! ( LOL)
Good to know that staying up late payed off cuz I watched the episode like 3:00 AM ET to see where is video landed . I guess my post last night was right he is #15 on the VH1 countdown . I just found it a little strange I was one of the few people who stayed up late to watch the show and not wait till 9 AM to find out where he landed on the countdown . This is what you call ODD to a whole new level cuz when I saw my tv guide it said vh 1 countdown was on so I took my remote to change the channel and started watching the show and the host said we have some new countdown debuts and they showed David’s video for a like a second or two that is when it hit me the fans actually got him on the countdown so I started to watch the show and then after 20 or so minutes waiting there was his video at #15 and it was like Oh my gosh his video is on the show and then I finally realized I need some sleep so I went to do some last minute lurking and then finally slept . This is not such an exciting story but it is great to know I was one of only a couple of people who stayed up late last night to see David’s video on the countdown .
#27 hollyre I think you’re right. I will have to put in a request for that day off. I know I won’t get much work done. As soon as I listen to the CD I will rip it to download to my mp3 player. After all that it will be 2 to 3 am. I take my mp3 player to work and listen to David all day long. I will not be able to concentrate on my work listening to the whole CD. I would rather be at home with headphones on soaking in every millisecond of David’s voice with a box of tissues in hand. OMGosh I know I will be a wreak 11/11
First thank you all folks for all the hi’s and hello’s when I joined the live blog, it was cool. Thank you Jenny, Gail, etc for the lead. I wasn’t able to say thank you at that moment. Honestly, it was my very first time to join live blog, I barely was able to keep up, the screen was just rolling up so fast, I had a hardtime reading all the blogs. It’s hard to be a golden rooster Archangel, the reflex comes slower, ha ha ha. I read them anyways after it’s over and I realized a lot of you said hi’s and hello’s to me. And dang it, I didn’t see the video because the VH1 countdown wasn’t shown up here in Toronto. It maybe later, as a tape. Pastel, please keep us posted.

PLEASE LOOK -Someone has to tell me, WHY you have such a vote system. Here we have only one vote for each person. It is so easy!! The energy on AI was totally spoiled, by the way to vote, and who did not have the suspicion of cheating?!! OK – yes!! it is over, but I never wish to see AI again. I had the feeling some people at last got stressed about the situation. People got cruel to each other. At last I felt the MAGIC from the MUSIC as being the most exciting experience- nealy died. NOT DAVID ARCHULETAs !!! But that was only because of David showing the whole wold how to GIVE LOVE – when you lose.
Young people can vote the night through.. look tired in school the next day, but if you have to provide someone and you can get fired at your job, this continually voting seems impossible.
i’m really just in awe whenever i read stuff like that about david–how he’s always so true to himself and what he believes in no matter what other people say. it’s so hard to do that nowadays, and more so at his age. and i’m now more excited than ever for his album! sounds like there’s a good mix of songs in there. i especially like that there’s an “attitude-y” one, as brett said. can’t wait for that. haha.
also i just wanna say i’m so amazed at the support that the flyfm DJs are giving to david and the malaysian archangels. it’s so nice of them to actually take the time to learn about david and his music, and to give the archangels a “david week”! that’s way cool.

It will be Archu-fandemonium!…I also read over on Idolforums that all the international Archies are Youtube fanatics and are boosting the views for Crush on David’s ‘The Official Archuleta.’ One of the reasons they love David is because he has such an interest in music around the world – they scoffed at the AI judges because they didn’t get it when David sang, “You’re the Voice.”

I just want to say you are so lucky to have the Archuletas as part of your lives. There is a reason for everything and I think one of David’s main reason for being is to be there for you as you go through your trials. Being in the medical profession I know medicines help to ease the pain and burden, but i do firmly believe, keeping the faith is what really helps us through our life. David’s being seems to be an inspiration to all to help us keep the faith. One of these days I shall tell you my story….
In the same way, you have a special role in David’s life too. In his time of need, you have been there. And in your own way you spread his inspiration to us through FOD.
So I say, may the Lord always keep us in the palm of his hands….

Thank you so much for sharing some updates and thoughts on David with all of us. David, I believe is an angel in disguise. He has truly touched all of our lives in one way or another. David is the light that shines so brightly and gives us all hope and inspiration. His gift of music was meant to share with the world. He has been an exceptional role model to my children and I think that is something that we need more of. It is just so exciting to see him on this musical path to something that will be “legendary”.

Aww Angela, I love your story. Told straight from the heart! I had such a great time in Tulsa! I’m so glad we had the opportunity to get to know each other and spend 4 whole days together. Wow! Thank you Jenny and Brett for that interview. I’m crying and I don’t know why. Brett, you are awesome! I don’t know how you all do it, living in such a humble, spiritual way ALL the time. I loved how you guys shared a spiritual evening with David. He seems like he is so spiritual and with his new lifestyle he most likely isn’t able to attend his church, right? You probably really fed a need for him. I am blown away by David asking for the girl to put shorts on over her swimsuit. I am so impressed with David for that. His standards are incredibly high and when you consider what is out there in the music video world… wow! David will really stand out (in a good way) in the crowd. What he is offering is completely unique compared to the rest of the pack.
And Brett, your story about David’s singing while you were sick is the most beautiful thing I’ve heard. I don’t even pretend to understand the spiritual magnestism that David has but I do KNOW for sure that it’s powerful and I do KNOW for sure that I can’t get enough of it. Thanks again – you guys just made my day.

In fact, there was another DJ named Jules in her blog titled “Did America Chose The Wrong Winner”, she mentioned that she was once Cook’s fan but after the David Archuleta Week, she’s a big fan of Archie now. She even said in her blog how she was fascinated by David’s voice and his personality and she has never felt gratitude like this before with bombarding calls and emails from fans thanking them. #91 Jecho I just got back on the computer but I will answer ur questions here . The first question you asked is how was it watching his video on vh 1 and debut at #15 it was amazing cuz the voting by his fans worked . Like I said on my comment above I knew he was on the countdown cuz the host said there are some new debuts on the show and they ( VH 1 ) showed David’s video for Crush for about 2 seconds and I got excited . When I first watched the intro of the show this week I almost shed a tear so I hope that gives an idea how I felt when I finally saw his video on the countdown . The other question you asked is that how long did it take for this video to be on the countdown I think it took at least a week cuz last week’s episode a couple of people who watched it said his video was mentioned on the show was kind of unofficial premiere or announcement of the video so people will know to vote for him . So I hope this info kind of helps to answer the questions you posted . ~crusher08

First…a thanks to Brett and Jenny. It really is wonderful to hear that David really is as morally grounded and as we think he is. He walks the talk”..not too many in the entertainment business do that.
My (18yo) son and I were just discussing the video and the direction that David is going. He said that he respects David in that he didn’t go the easy route via’ Disney and was impressed that he stuck to his morals in the final release of the video. That was a pretty big compliment coming from someone who has always liked Cook’s music better. I do believe all my sons are slowly but surely coming around to appreciating David.

soozq…no apologies needed. We’re all trippin’ over David on this forum. I have never been able to figure out why he brings such feelings as you mentioned above to those of us who’ve discovered him. I think I’ve finally come to the place where I’ve given up trying. He just makes me happy.

I’m so glad that finally a good role model is achieving success in the music industry. When I met you, I have to say, that you seem like a very positive person, just like David. I can see how your families have become close friends.

Karidol #207, that was exactly how I felt. I haven’t seen Josh Grobans interpretation, maybe I can find it on youtube, but if David did it the way I picture it, just like you say, he’d make a classic come alive, he’d own it like he does any song he sings, he’d extract tears from his audience at the same time ending it with a smile. Hi everyone…..Thanks Jenny for the interview and Brent for your generous responses. Yes, we are a hungry bunch, but only because we know there is so much to this young man that we don’t know. American Idol only gave us a biased look. We are now just filling in all the rest, with the brief opportunities to meet, the blogs, the vlogs, inquiries of Jeff and others like yourself. It’s like an onion being peeled back, and we really like what we see.
Jecho, the song is called “Smile” and has been sung by so many of the greats over the years like Nat King Cole, Judy Garland, so so many. I didn’t know Josh sang it, but Karidol found it on youtube, I’m trying to download it now (I’ve got dial-up, kinda slow). The music was written in 1936 by Charlie Chaplin.

230/soozq: I’ve been away so I haven’t had time to read all posts today..but I did just stumble on yours. Sounds like you are exactly where I was just prior to the tour ending (I think it was around the 3 more shows to go mark)…the only way I can describe myself was “a basket case”. I was so emotional I, myself, couldn’t believe it. I had to hide it from my hubby and grown kids because I knew they wouldn’t understand.. Bottom line is, we all feel a strong connection with David and it transcends itself in different ways… hard to explain to others. But almost everyone here “gets” it, so don’t take yourself so seriously…just go with your feelings and you’ll be OK. As for me, I’ve worked hard at it (and prayed alot)…I honestly think I’ll be OK, too.
#233 – pastel…at lease they’re playing it in your neck of the woods. I’ve just about given up hope that I’ll ever hear Crush on the radio in the Seattle area. On a selfish note..If David doesn’t get the air play here…he might not ever tour near me and I’ll never get to see him in person. That would just break my heart. Darned DJs anyway…they’ve probably still in the David vs David mode.
Jecho, well, we can only hope. I gave David a dvd with a performance of that song on it, with a note that I’d like him to sing that song. Who knows, maybe he read my note, saw the song being performed, maybe he’ll like it too.

The news is – Crush just entered the Ratethemusic.com Hot AC survey. It’s not even in the top 10 rated (few fans have an acct rating the Hot AC genre). We seem to have excellent fan coverage in in Top 40 and AC (adult contemporary) currently, but need more rating the Hot AC genre.

JeffR: I just watched Josh Groban’s “Smile”. I didn’t know he had covered it. Although I knew “You Raise Me Up”, I’ve just recently started listening to him and have come to love a lot of his music. “My December” and “Awake” are my faves. I think David could cover any of Josh’s songs and do them better because he puts so much of himself into them, for example WYSYLM. Love, love, love David singing that song! Josh’s version is good, but he can’t touch the emtion that David puts into it…just my opinion, of course.

Speaking of David…I so envy my 17yo grand-daughter. She is going to the Paramount in Seattle to see Phantom of the Opera tonight. A family friend bought really expensive seats and is taking her out to such a fancy restaurant first that she has to wear her prom dress.
However…as much as I’d like to see Phantom, I know I’d be really disappointed in their version of “Think Of Me”. I love David’s interpretation…it’s one of my most played songs my him.

Jecho, Marylee, Jimmy Durante? That must be a neat interpretation. Jecho, I just watched Josh, wow, really beautiful. But I have to admit, hands down, the best interpretation I’ve ever seen, was done by Judy Garland. It was filmed in the early 60’s I believe for an episode of the Ed Sullivan show. I saw it on a PBS special once and never ever forgot it. I had never seen a song sung with such feeling, intensity and softness in my lifetime, backed up gently with a violin. Gee, who does that remind us of? When I found it on DVD, I knew I had to give it to David.
Joy…love, love Phantom. My 19 year old loves it too (she bought the british soundtrack, Canadian soundtrack and the movie!). Hope your granddaughter enjoys it!!!

#273 Pastel, Marylee, I agree, David should have an orchestra (like on AI, but never a 4 piece band), but, depending on the song, just a piano or violin is fine. To me, David is one of those singers that I like to refer to as having the orchestra in his throat. He can sing a song acapella, you don’t miss the music, it’s not needed to enhance the performance or mask the weaknesses of the singer…certainly not an issue here.
275/Joy: I think my hubby is beginning to have an appreciation of David’s talent and so is my daughter, but neither of them watched AI. My daughter made a statement shortly after “Crush” came out…she said “Mom, I think that David will have a big hit with this song”…that was alot, coming from her! She is grown with a 6 year old. My son, who lives in Miami, calls me every time he hears “Crush” on the radio (they play it alot down there, BTW) and says, “Hi, Mom, they’re playing YOUR song”..lol..

pastel and JeffR: I’ve loved the song Phantom since the “Grease” try out show that was on television a couple of years ago. When all the contestants sang the “Phantom” song, I just about died. I’ve always loved Lloyd Weber’s musicals…Jesus Christ Superstar being my favorite. When I heard that it was going to be “Sir Lloyd Weber’s” week on AI, I really thought that David might sing part of “Gethsamane”, but was thrilled with “Think Of Me” although I had never heard that particular song before and have only recently watched the entire movie. (Steve Balsamo’s version of Gethsamane is just awesome if you haven’t seen it yet…it’s on youtube)

Brett- thank you for the wonderful interview – I am even more excited for the album now (if that’s even possible) and I love that you were able to spend time with David & his family doing normal family things. The tour ending was such a hard transition for us, but knowing that David now has time to spend with family and friends just hanging out and singing together, makes it easier to deal with. He is moving on to the next chapter of his journey and we are all so blessed that we are along for the ride!

Mhelchuleta: Yes, “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” was a breathtaking performance, wasn’t it. I have it recorded, also, and play it back almost daily while I put on my make-up. He really sang his heart out that night…gave me chills…and he had Clive Davis on his feet, along with the rest of the audience, with that performance!

Re that MyPlay site – to be blunt, it works like crap. It doesn’t remember ratings, it often offers the wrong song title for you to rate or add to favorites below what you are playing. It’s one of the flakiest sites I have ever used.

303/JeffR: I could talk all night about Finale night! I was glued to the TV..sat directly in front of it on the floor and cheered for him like I was a cheerleader again!..lol.. Such passion in DLTSGD, making you think he was going to do a ballad version but standing up and, as I put it, “charging” the audience with his fist pumped, and then, “In this Moment”…gosh, how touching!

I recently bought the song “Angel in the Alleyway” by David in itune. That is a beatiful song. You know I had my husband bought me the ipod just to satisfy my odd when I am not in the computer.Lol.

When David said he wasn’t going to have any “cover” songs on his first album…did it mean covers of his OWN songs (such as what he sang on AI or Tour)….or covers of other people’s songs (that have been recorded by them already)…in other words, will this be all new material and no well known songs that have been done by other artists?

I had such anticipation for finale night I had my sister tape the show for me, and final the next night because I thought that these shows would just be historic (and I wanted to see them clearly, I don’t have cable and my picture is a little fuzzy).
ML- I too still reflect on the finale, not always in a good way. I still find myself puzzled as to how he did not win! He left his heart, soul, his whole being on that stage! It was more then a knockout!! Simon got it right the first time!

318/Candy: I just don’t believe the results (never did). Everyone inside that theatre was on their feet practically the entire time he was performing and after he sang “Imagine”, my gosh, the applause went on for so long, Randy couldn’t get a word in edgewise! The people were so moved during that song, that they couldn’t be still or quiet the entire time he was singing. YES, Simon was right the first time and he meant what he said on the night of the Finale…there wasn’t anything else to say, my gosh, it WAS a knockout (and if Simon hadn’t been a coward, he never would have retracted his judgment call). You know, I personally think it was rigged, but I still say David is better off, so he wins in the end anyway and he’ll always be an Idol in our eyes and in the eyes of millions of other people!

I wasn’t “feeling” Lights on either. I’ve been reading some not-so-good reviews about it and also going to some Cookie forums and seeing what people think. Reviews with his fans are mixed too-some saying that they are a little disappointed. Not us – I haven’t really heard any David fans saying they don’t like Crush, have you?
Candy, ML: I still have the last 3 weeks of AI on my DVR. Everyone in this house knows not to touch those recordings as well as the VH1 Countdown from this morning on pain of death! I simply MUST hire someone to come into my home and connect my DVR to my DVD recorder so I can get these on DVD. I have some really good Computer geeks in my family, but cable is something else.
DLTSGDOM…I’ve never been an Elton John fan, but when David sang this I was in tears. The emotion he laid out on that stage was breath-taking. In This Moment…I really hope he records this someday. I love how he caresses that last ieei..in that song. Imagine…I loved this one better than the first. Maybe it was because of the white jacket…he was just beautiful.

Candy i always wonder too how he did not win. simon would always say ‘this is a singing competition” whenever someone tried to say one of the contestants had a good performance (every year). simon definitely got it right the first time (a KNOCKOUT performance). i hate to say this but i believe he just apologized because he didn’t want to look bad. Candy, I look back on what Simon did and think to myself: If he had back peddled and apologized to Cook but then David would have gone on to win, that would make sense to me. It would be like, “Well we acknowledge who the winner is, but we’re sorry if we hurt your feelings”…aimed at Cook….but the way it went down, it was double blow to our David because, not only did he not win, but Simon’s statement made it sound like he didn’t win the Finale night either! #341 Kristin: Seeing David perform after AI was amazing. Where did the bashful and awkward… yet charming child go? I got really hooked when he performed either Angels or And So It Goes, can’t remember which now, but when I saw him sing WYSYLM on youtube, that was the day I that I fell..no…I actually flew over the edge of the cliff. There’s no going back now.
As for the AI results…don’t know what the real truth is, but it sure left a sour taste in my mouth. I’m normally not a “bad sport”, but because of the way it ended up and the way they treated David, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to enjoy the show again.

357/Candy: DITTO! I’m sure you’ve read my many posts expressing how David pulled me through my “state of emotional sadness” after the results show. After watching him in the many interviews that followed the show, I began to realize how he was so genuinely content with the results, so I told myself… if it’s good enough for him, then it is for me too! He was such a soldier…no other way to put it!

Candy: I am over the fact that David did not win AI, because I truly believe he is much better off. Look at how well he has done. He is in much better hands with Jive and who knows if he would have as much input in his album if he wasn’t with them. All things happen for a reason and things could not be going better for David.
With that said, I could have thrown a brick through my TV when Simon back tracked like that. Don’t get me wrong. I really like Cook and think he will have a great career, but that night belonged to Our David! He was absolutely amazing. I gave him a standing ovation in my living room. I think Simon was just trying to save face, because he knew the results.
Candy, I like that, the way David handled it, “healed a lot of people”. I felt relieved almost immediately, and actually glad he didn’t have to wear that moniker. It had clearly become a mute point weeks before. He didn’t need it.

To me, it looked as thought Cook didn’t care how well he did on finale night. He was a little smug at times and did not sing well at all. It doesn’t take a genius to see that! Yet with David it was opposite. He never believed he did as well as he did and for that, I love him all the more. He was the most gracious and happy runner up I’ve seen on that show all 7 seasons. His family really conducted themselves well too. I think my kids would have been standing there with their jaws open, as would I! Those Archuletas are some kind of people! I have a lot of respect for every single one of them!

I have a picture from the concert (we must have the same one from different angles, you were at Wilkes-Barre!) when he was singing WYSYLM where the beam of light originates from the top of the photo and spreads out and envelopes him on stage with the darkness of the audience around him. “God moment”, I like that.
Even though I have the “results” night on my DVR, can you believe that I still haven’t watched the actual announcement of the winner yet? Just can’t bear to see the look in our David’s eyes. Brett, I hope you are feeling well these days. Regarding David’s album, my curiosity is going overboard on the song you mentioned with the “attitude” in it. The more I learn about our boy, the more surprised and interesting he becomes; I heard an expression recently that went something like “You think you know me? Look again.” Oh boy, are we lookin’ and lovin’!! And, while on that topic, it’s apparent that David stays true to what makes him tick and stands up for what he believes is the right thing to do. i.e. the swimsuit factor you talk about in your interview. I kept thinking while reading this “what was peer pressure like for David in high school?”. He has such a strong moral code, such an unusual teen………..The more we read, the more we want to know, cause he’s just so fascinating. As you mentioned, your own kids respect him so much, as we all do. When I think back to David at the fireside singing “Be Still my Soul” to the troubled kids, chills get me every time. wow David.

#402 Marylee-That was a cute moment! I especially loved it when Cook walked over to David and pulled him close and put his hand on the side of his head for a “hug” while he was singing. I will never forget that! The love was and is definitely there. Then they walked down the steps behind the judges and Cook continued to call David over to his side! It gives me chills.
Wonder if everyone made it through the corn maze o.k. It’s been a couple of hours – can’t wait for reports.

I was beaming and clapping for him like I could channel my energy to him or something. Weird.. but I just wanted so badly to let him know that he would be BIGGER than the AI title.

#414 JeffR: Yes, I’ve seen those interviews and I know that David was never disappointed by the results of AI, but the “Mom” in me just hates to see any of her kids get hurt, and even though David is not my son, I love him as much as I do one of my own. What he feels affects me deeply.
I know that sounds weird…but can’t help how I feel. The “Mom” part of being David’s fan is what I have the most problem dealing with. I can’t imagine how Lupe would feel if she knew that someone else loves her son in the same way she does. It’s not like I don’t have any of my own…I’ve got 3 of em’ and I love them all for their own individual characters. So why do I feel like I need another one? It’s a very unique, and weird, experience for me.

Randy made me laugh.. he was letting his inner fanboy hang loose and praised David to China and back. He cracked me up. The FACES in the audience!! They were all shocked! You can fake that.
GOLD CRUSH… I heard that the label has to pay for the status to be official. Does anyone know how that works? I’m sure they would make it official, but just seems weird.. I guess there’s red tape everywhere.
I’ve always thought that Randy was a huge fan of David’s..right from the first when he sang “Waiting On The World To Change”. I don’t remember him saying a bad word about his voice though at times he didn’t like a particular song.

She told an FOD fan when she met her, something along these lines..”Please don’t ever stop loving him”…does anyone know who told us that…was it Pam05? Hopefully, whoever it was, will see this post and respond, letting us know exactly what Lupe said. I, personally, don’t feel that it is unusual for you to have motherly feelings for David and be concerned with how certain events make him feel. I spend a good deal of time wondering where he is right now and how life is treating him…how is he dealing with the transition into his new “existence”, etc. At other times, I look at a picture of him and the only thing I feel is “Oh gosh, why can’t I be 17 again”…..SO, I guess what I’m trying to say is that David brings out lots of different emotions within us which we may never be able to explain.

JOY, that doesn’t sound weird at all. So many have expressed the same feelings, and I always feel protective toward David. So many times during the tour I felt, “why are they flying him there, he’s got a day off, let him SLEEP”, “leave him alone I want him to have fun on his day off”. It’s a good thing we can’t all hover over David to protect him! LOL.
