I love the way the photographer took the time to comment on how easy David is to photograph (yeah, we know). “He takes direction really well,” he adds. I wonder how he felt about David’s habit of tapping into the infinite soundtrack stored in his brain and breaking into song when something reminds him of a lyric? I love the part of the video at 2:02 when the photographer directs David to look over his head, and David, keeping as still as he possibly can and attempting not to move his lips, begins to sings “Over my head” by the Fray (ahhhhh…one of my favorite recent songs). You know, I think that song lyrics pop into my head at several moments throughout the day and I just nudge them back…I’ll bet we all do. Today I’m just going to sing them.

Mark’s Letter:
Dearest Fans Of David,
Where do I begin? The first thing I really should say is that I am new, but not that new. After months of staying in the background of David Archuleta fandom, this exciting, bittersweet transition into the next stage of David’s career has inspired me to come forward. Fans Of David is the online home for this “Archie,” and I desperately want to authenticate that so I won’t lose my place as one of the original Archuleta Faithful. I have had so much fun with this online family, which I respect and cherish. So please let me introduce myself and share my David story, because while you don’t know me yet, I want you to.
My name is Mark. I am a 20-year-old guy, a senior in college. My major is Music Industry, with a minor in Film. I’m from New York, but I go to school in Los Angeles. I guess I’m not your average David Archuleta fan, but then again, David Archuleta is not your average American Idol contestant, now is he?
I’ve always been a fan of American Idol, though I officially became an avid follower during Season 2. In what I thought was a strangely unique circumstance, the first live performance I saw that year was the person who became my favorite: Kimberley Locke. Without seeing any of the others, I grew an unfailing fondness for her, because I just thought there was something about her. I even voted for her a few times. Since then, I never reached the same level of serendipitous love, enthusiasm, and loyalty for any other contestant, or season, since Kimberley Locke. I never voted for anyone after her either…
This, ladies and gentlemen, brings us to Season 7.
Last semester, I was enrolled in a class called “Introduction To Television.” For the first assignment, we had to record twenty minutes of TV, and observe people’s reactions to it. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Needless to say, I waited until the night before this ridiculous assignment was due, deciding to just observe myself and write about it. It was almost 9pm on Tuesday, February 19. Thinking that I should probably start the paper, I picked up my remote control to begin my “observing.”
Earlier that day, I saw a link on Yahoo advertising the Top 24 show. In the picture of that link, and the first person in Yahoo’s rundown of the semifinalists, was a 17-year-old guy named David Archuleta. I plainly remember thinking: He looks like a nice kid, and I hope he’s a good singer. Funnily enough, I never looked at the other contestants.
So, I suddenly remembered that this was the first night of the live shows on American Idol. I had tuned into some audition episodes, but I largely expected to really catch on somewhere in the middle; certainly not this soon. I turned on my TV and immediately tuned in to FOX. Keep in mind that all I expected to do was record any twenty minutes that I can reference in my paper. I begin watching the show, and the first person I see and hear on my television screen is none other than… David Archuleta.
He was in the middle of singing “Shop Around,” a song I hadn’t heard before. Nevertheless, I stopped in my tracks, and all other thoughts suddenly left my head, because I wanted to watch him sing. I was immediately drawn to this kid. There was something about him. Sound familiar? From his energetic performance, to his youthful spirit, to his fantastic voice, to that unexpected glory note at the end, to his unbelievably charming reaction to the judges’ comments, and to his now-classic exchange with Ryan Seacrest, it took less than four minutes for me to find My Favorite American Idol Contestant Of All Time. He was the first contestant I saw, and I had only caught a glimpse, but in some miraculous way, I learned in those few moments all I needed to know.
Following that night—and following the paper—I searched for everything I could find about The Wonder That Is David Archuleta. By the time the Top 20 rolled around, I was well-versed in all things David.
On Tuesday, February 26, I sat down alone on my couch to watch David (and the other guys) sing songs from the 1970s. When Ryan said “…The song is by John Lennon…” I became nervous, because I knew what was coming. Courtesy of my research, I correctly assumed his song choice and started to worry that he could be slaughtered for performing such an iconic song. I knew that David was going to sing “Imagine,” but what I did not know was that DAVID WAS GOING TO SING “IMAGINE.” After two minutes and five seconds of beautiful, timeless, star-making transcendence, I said one word out loud: “Wow.”
I believed in that moment what I will always believe: this is no ordinary singer, or even an ordinary person. He is extraordinary in every way.
The rest, as they say, is history. I was hooked. You could say that I became obsessed with watching American Idol this season. I knew about all the contestants, and I even liked the majority of them to some extent. From that first time I watched David sing, I recorded every second of every episode. I even began to vote again. You can guess for whom.
Amidst all the enjoyment, each week became increasingly stressful because of all the irrational worries I had about David’s status in the competition. By the week of the finale, I had so worn myself out from voting and stressing that I swore I would never do this again. Throughout all the ups-and-downs and ins-and-outs of the competition, along with its media coverage, I realized that Cook had become the more favored contestant. So I resigned myself to the fact that David would likely take silver. That is, until the Top Two performance night.
All I wanted was for David to do well, so that everyone would be unequivocally convinced that he indeed deserved to make it all the way to the end. But once he sang “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me,” it all changed. And I mean it really changed. Everything about and around that moment made it so perfect, and simply unforgettable. It was that breathtaking repeat of the line “Blinded by light.” It was that passionate stomping on the floor when the music halted under his growling voice. It was that third, chill-inducing, skyscraping “SUN going down…” It was his tears of a thousand emotions laid bare. It was his explosive “Oh My Gosh!” reaction to Simon’s commendation. Using every fiber of his being, David had given his greatest, most passionate, most worthy performance ever. He had solidified his place in the best Top Two that American Idol has ever seen or ever will see again. And, in my humble opinion, he had taken the crown.
Thankfully, the rest of the episode had me somewhat more relaxed. Then during that final performance of “Imagine,” something very strange happened. Right in the middle of the song, I had a very compelling thought: this is our David, coming full circle. This is the culmination of everything he had put into this entire competition, all encompassed into the one song that originally defined his brilliance for the world. You could sense both his power and his vulnerability, the raw passion in his voice and his tears. I finally let go of all my worries about the competition and simply took in the moment. And I cried. I don’t know what came over me, but the tears came down and they would not stop.
OK. Now, given that I had nothing else to do that night, I casually spent all four voting hours sitting in my room, text-voting for David. Voting, and voting, and voting some more. Grand Total: 1,616 Text Votes for Mr. David Archuleta. I was quite proud of myself, and I was very happy with what David had done. Results aside, it truly was a personal knockout for the ages, and I am so thankful that I was able to witness this season.
I rarely allow myself the luxury of contemplating the sheer wonder of certain moments in my life. With that first performance of “Shop Around” and the moments after, I somehow fully discovered the performer and the person that David is, inside and out. I knew him in that instant. From then on, no aspect of his personality ever surprised me. Because I had gotten to know him. Because I saw so much of myself in him. Because I saw him as my little brother.
Like all of you “fans of David,” I have completely moved on from the show itself, so much that it’s actually difficult for me to go back and watch clips; it’s uncomfortable now to see David so constrained by the format, the expectations, and the manipulation. The time after American Idol has been so liberating for me as a fan, because I, along with everyone else, got to see David being truly relaxed and carefree. We got to see fans meet him and enjoy getting to know him. And, of course, we got to see him on tour.
I was at Rickey.org listening to the very first show, and I was there listening to the very last. I even saw the Idols live in Long Island on August 5. That night, I couldn’t believe I was actually seeing David Archuleta in person, and that he actually was a real person. Surreal is a word that fits well. The tour has been an incredible journey for everyone, a terrific “victory lap,” as many in the press have called it. This was the final act of the American Idol experience for David and the other nine, as well as the one real chance to connect them with their adoring fans. I have tried to soak it in as best I can, because now we have come to the end. But also the beginning. To use a word from David, it’s all bittersweet.
Since Friday, April 18, I have been a quiet outside guest of this wonderful community. A longtime lurker, if you will. Yes, I am very ashamed. Over at Rickey’s, after some huge uproar, one frustrated post of his sent all of his equally frustrated runaways in this direction. Not knowing anything about the drama at his site, I simply followed the link out of curiosity for this apparently great fan website. What I found was not a fan website, but a family. Fans Of David has given me so much enjoyment for so long, and that is due in no small part to the creators, who actively keep in mind David’s best interests. They love him and love his fans. And Richard, wow, what a friend, what a hero. In addition to that, there are all the awesome, and sometimes hilariously insane, people who together enjoy our Idol with as much genuineness as he possesses in his spirit. A true family.
Now, I’m a big family person at heart. At the same time, I don’t necessarily like to intrude on what I consider as someone else’s good time. Because I’m a people watcher at heart too. I truly enjoy observing people who are in close relationships interact. That is why I’ve gotten as much gratification from reading all the updates, stories, and chats, as I would have by participating in them. I was here for the first chat with Brett, and the first chat with Dar, and with Richard, and with Adam, and with “Jazzman.” They are most certainly memories that will last.
The truth is I have always wanted to join the chats and officially be a fan on Fans Of David, but my two good friends Shyness and Nervousness have prevented me from doing that until now. It wasn’t until I read Jenny’s fantastic “Confessions Of A Ledge-Walker” that I decided it was now or never. I too am excited to watch David become a star, and yet sad to give him up to the world; because I am one of the original fans. The tragedy of it for me is that I feel no validation in being one of the original fans. I am a self-imposed outsider on Fans Of David, a place that has made me feel like part of the family, while I, selfishly, have not given anything in return. So I really want to feel like I am justifiably one the “us” to whom David originally belonged, as Jenny so poignantly phrased it. I hope to be part of that “us,” that family, before it is too late and the world claims him.
What David has done for me is hard to grasp. Among countless other priceless contributions, He has given me a renewed appreciation for the innocence of life. His inconceivably heartbreaking innocence is one of the main things I first noticed and loved about him, for it gave me an eternal sense of affinity with him. I undoubtedly feel like a very young 20-year-old, so it has comforted me beyond words to see a fellow young man who appears happy to be innocent, to be positive, to be vulnerable, to be sweet, to be genuine, and of course, to smile. Like I said, I see him as my little brother, so now I simply want to see him grow, see him be happy.
I just want to emphasize through this letter what David and everyone at Fans Of David have done for me. There are not many people with whom I can so easily share my enthusiasm; therefore, I am sharing with all of you now. The reason is because I sincerely want you to know and “get” another dedicated fan as well as this dedicated fan knows and “gets” this crazy, lovely fan-family. David is an unusually special addition to all of our lives, and what makes this whole journey even more special is that ability to happily share in the one common thread that unites us.
So, with the hope that all the longtime lurking will one day be forgiven, I am humbly introducing myself to Fans Of David.

Jessica’s Story:
Heyy!!! WOW..there are no words to describe the night of August 4, 2008!! It all started off with the amazing concert–everyone was great, but the cheers and fun truly started as soon as Syesha announced David’s name! The crowd, including myself, went wild! Let’s just saying hearing and seeing him on youtube and pictures does Archie no justice. He is an unbelievable performer, as he was able to keep the audience roaring with excitement throughout the course of his time on stage. He looked amazing and sounded incredible, considering how tough it is having to perform so many consecutive concerts. I had the time of my life, dancing/singing along/waving my glowstick! 
I also have to give lots of props to Cook, who was great as well (even though Archie did receive a louder ovation lol).
Then it came time to the moment I was so anxiously awaiting….BACKSTAGE AFTERPARTY time!!! woooo…I picked up my passes prior to the show, and after asking some Ushers, my guest and I were escorted to where we had to go. Upon arriving backstage, the Idols were sitting all around the room. Lines were formed by each Idol, as the fans patiently awaited their turn at a few moments with the Top 10. I got the opportunity to meet Syesha, Ramielle, Jason, Brooke, Michael Johns, and none other than MR. DAVID ARCHULETA himself!! Some Idols left early, including Chikezie, Kristy Lee, Carly, and David Cook. I was glowing with joy and sheer amazement as I walked around the area that was set-up. I couldn’t stop smiling as I walked from line to line, getting autographs and taking pictures with the Idols. I even got the chance to meet Brooke’s husband and David’s dad, Jeff!! Everyone I met was just so nice and willing to chat and take pics. I had a very long convo with Jeff, talking about everythinggg..he is sooo sweet!!! David signed everything he was presented, despite how exhausted he looked. I gave David a new big & soft nutter butter, and his eyes opened so wide with utter shock. He told me “I haven’t seen these before…Thank you so much! I can’t wait to try it.” I was able to hug him twice (one I took a pic of and one I didn’t)..He was just so so nice and just about the most genuine person I have ever met!! David Archuleta was the last one to leave the afterparty! (proving once again just how sincere and down-to-earth he truly is!)
The afterparty lasted for approximately an hour, and I just couldn’t get enough of the Idols….sooo I decided to go wait outside by the buses to catch a last glimpse of the Idols before they boarded their buses. Well, there was definitely more people than I expected outside, but I still wasn’t ready to leave just yet. I watched as Archie and some of the other Idols made their way up and down the lines of fans. Then we stayed and watched as the buses pulled out and the security guards told us we needed to leave. lol

Mark, Your story could have been told by many of us almost word for word as we all have been captured by David in much the same way. Mine would not have been as beautifully written as yours for sure. I loved your synopsis of the final 2 night, but why did you leave out “In This Moment”? All three were fantastic.

“FYI. The photo shoot happened when the tour was in NY. Rascal believes the location is Williamsburg, Brooklyn. David picked the picture for his album with the help of Lupe (his mom). This is what Brett wrote:
“Lupe (David’s mom) was over to our home today and she hadn’t actually seen the cover…even though she helped him pick it out…I hope I’m ok telling this, Lupe looked right into David’s eyes and said; “oh look at our David”…it was pretty moving!!!”
The album pic makes David look strong, in control, and someone to take seriously. He doesn’t look like a little boy anymore. He is his own person capable of making his own decisions, as often stated by Jeff/Dean/Brett/Richard. And he never was and never will be one of the Disney-model. He’s too talented to be held back like that. When you look at that pic, it makes you do a double take, it catches your attention and you want to find out more. That’s the genious of that album pic. To draw you in.
I’m so very glad and relieved that Jive has given David the support and space he needs to make the right decisions for himself. He really only needs to make himself happy; however, his fans know that he worries about what we think.”

just come along and start chatting:) we luv new people…and judging from everything you’ve written, you would fit right in..its amazing how many ‘deep and emo’ david conversations we actually have..while struggling to find the words to describe what we truly feel and exactly what david has done for us..but of course, with us, we dont even need to explain it much cuz all of us just ‘get’ each other..thats the beauty of our e-family..
and also, we’re all of different ages and backgrounds and nationalities etc, and yet we all get along spiffingly, like as if we were brothers and sisters and have known each other for such a long time! as i have said before, age is but a number…never in a million years would i have imagined myself to have formed such close bonds of friendship with people i havent even met before, people with the age range of 12-60..i have definitely made lifelong friends, and not just fairweather friends either, but proper really close friends, even best friends..it would be amazing to have you as a part of this too:)
so yeah just come along and chat:) give in to the lurking! :p…i used to be a lurker too, but i caved in around top6 week i think..and i havent been able to stop ever since!
i literally spend my whole life here now!hahah!! well, i still do spend time in the outside world, im not COMPLETELY crazy yet..ok ill stop rambling now! so yeah just come along:) ill probably be there cuz im there most times anyways:)

!13 “C S”- I actually didn’t sleep well last night; I should have gotten out of bed and gone back to my computer. You were all having way too much fun without me! Next time I know what to do when a little insomnia hits.
Lupe saying, “oh look at our David” is so touching. She’s probably realizing that he’s not a little boy anymore, but a man. That’s gotta be a little sad for her. And a Disney model he ain’t!!! He’s way to sophisticated, classy and mature looking for that. He’s right up there with the best of them as far as I’m concerned. I agree that Disney would probably hold him back somewhat. I think Jive is aware that David know what is best for David and what will work for him. Kudos to Jive for that. David is definitely making all of the right decisions!!!

I want to share this little story with everyone. Yesterday at work I was on the phone with a customer in Dallas Texas. I had sent him an invoice and he was calling to ask me to forward a copy to his home office in Tulsa Oklahoma. I said sure, give me the address. As he was giving me the address my brain went to Tulsa Oklahoma, last show, silly string, David, etc. When he finished giving me the address I realized I never wrote anything down and had to ask him to repeat the address. Keeping my mind on my work is difficult.

Just a little shout out to Hollyre from a fellow Buckeye! I was at the Cleveland concert also. Did you see David after the concert also? It was crazy but well worth the wait!

Good Morning all:
I hope that I’m posting in the right thread in response to Mark’s letter posted above. It is not unusual for me to pour my coffee and settle down in front of the computer every morning (even on the days I work), and log onto FOD, because it somehow brings me contentment to start my day. It has truly become a “soft spot” to land for me and I am thankful to all who contribute to this fantastic forum. So many times, something that I read or pictures that I see (or a vlog from David) will bring me to tears and I used to fight those feelings, but have since discovered that the tears are theraputic for me, so I now just go with the feeling. This morning, reading Mark’s letter, I have once again, been brought to tears…so touching. Mark, everything you wrote, all your thoughts about David since “Shop Around” (for me, since “Heaven”), are shared by each person who visits here. Join the thousands of people who have felt the “specialness” of David Archuleta for different reasons and in different degrees. I particularly loved the term you used to describe Finale night as “a personal knockout for the ages” and the tour end as “a victory lap”…Wow, I could have searched forever and never been able to put these thoughts together as you so elequently have done. I love it when someone finally comes up with exactly what I’ve been tossing around in my head for months, just as Jenny did so beautifully in her “Confessions of a Ledge Walker” post (reference to our 17 year old souls). Reading what others have experienced through David’s “vulnerable, innocent, genuine and sweet” nature is extremely comforting to me, as it answers so many questions that I’ve asked myself over time, and I want to thank all my friends here for helping me to sort through these feelings. Mark, I sincerely hope that you will come out of lurking from time to time (if that’s your desire) and let us hear from you. For some, it is difficult to “jump in” until one day, some single post, forces you to “put it all out there”…something else that has become theraputic in my case. No one here at FOD cares how you express it…we know exactly what you mean because we’ve been there…and now, we all get the privilege to sit back enjoy this journey that David is on….into a career that will bring us all years of the “Archuleta specialness” that we have experienced so far!

Thank you for sharing your experience! I for once can tell you that I had never, ever felt an artist the way I feel David. He has the ability to pull one into him, when he is singing. Call it what ever you want to call it, but it’s a powerful source of energy, attraction, that bestow upon one, and time stands still while he is singing, not t say that my heart start beating faster, is a rush! It doesn’t matter when it started for you (for me it was when he sang Heaven, I knew right then & there that this kid was “IT”) what’s most important is that you were able to find him, and appreciate his music & persona! I couldn’t leave for the day without telling you how touched I am by your story. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! I was a long time lurker myself back in the early Spring months, (though I still prefer to call myself a reader) but sometimes you just can’t hold it in, you know? I went through the same internal turmoil over this amazing individual myself. It is such a pleasure to share your joy of David’s music with others sharing those same feelings. You’ve expressed how David has moved you so beautifully, and your feelings are shared here by all of us.
Fansofdavid is very welcoming and feels like “Archuleta Home” to me. That’s why I love it so much. You’ll find a varied and wonderful group here. I just pop on a couple times a day; others can enjoy each other’s company and linger. One common link: our love for David! Welcome!

I thank you, Mark, for that wonderful letter. So much of it was if you wrote it from my experience. This was my first season of any interest for AI and David had me at his first audition. So.. from the beginning and most assuredly… traveling the future career path, I will always be there for David Archuleta. It’s a priviledge.

Good morning all, Love the new video from David and of course all the pictures.. Mark I liked your story a lot. I also lurk a lot, but I have posted before, just not as much as some. I definitely feel as if I need to start posting more to, but sometimes by the time I am done reading all the posts I am exhausted (in a good way), plus my dang job gets in the way to! Good morning fellow FODs! I was running around involved in (my other) family activities last night when I got a “tweet” on my phone from Becky. “Oh man, I thought, I have to wait a couple of hours before i can get home to see it!” Then i got home and had to help with (kids) homework. AAGGGHHH! When I finally had my quiet time to watch, I sat and cried. Tears of joy and tears of release. It is so inspiring to watch him blossom in new areas of his life, while still remaining the same sweet, thoughtful, genuine…David!
Jenny: Thanks again for the wonderful post yesterday. You have given me a new favorite word: KAIROS-It truly does describe David’s entrance and presence not only into the music world, but into each of our lives!! The definition also described that “this special thing” depends on who is using the word. We are all bonded in a special way to David (and to each other through him), yet each of us has a unique story of how David has affected us!
Mark, I loved your story (a testimony of sorts). The word kairos also, inreference to time, is defined as being QUALITATIVE in nature. It doesn’t matter when you first posted, or voted, or lurked or whatever…what matters is that the”kairos” of David in your life is your special story, with its unique timeline! If you are familiar with biblical stories or verses at all, it reminds me of what is said in Matt 20:16, (similarily) where we learn that it doesn’t matter when you enter into the walk, or the labor, or the family…the importance lies in that you are here (vocally) now in our FOD family, are we’re so glad to now know you…Welcome!
I run in and out of my busy RL, but I’m always so thankful to get back here. I feel such a strong loving connection to David and all of you here! and I really do “love the laughter” in this FOD family. Thanks Everyone!

Doesn’t it make you feel so good to know that David and Lupe are helping to make decisions, and that JIVE has allowed them this kind of involvement. IT really proves that they respect David as an artist and as an individual! I also am thinking another thing I love about the album cover is that in his seriousness, it’s as if David is also showing that the road to”here” has not been totally easy (all smiles and laughter). His look of strength and contemplation reminds me that there were hard times, and tremendous effort included on his path of life to this point.

I now have David who is my “tv son” who has bought me as much joy as my real son and who I love like a son. You must stay with us and post often because these tears of happiness I felt when reading your letter can not be the last tears I shed!
We have people here that love David like a son, like a brother, others that would love to be his friend, his first kiss, his love but we ALL respect and admire him and that’s what makes coming here the place for “everything Archuleta”. When we were talking to Jeff at the Ford Concert, we asked him what David was going to do with the suit. He said I don’t know, so a couple of us mentioned selling it on ebay and donating the proceeds to charity, he thought this might be a good idea. So we’ll have to wait and see if it gets auctioned on ebay, that would be really cool to see.

Mark – thanks so much for your very eloquent writing of your story! WOW! There is nothing to forgive, my friend. I have found it has taken me a long time to sort out all the layers of my feelings that David brings up. And reading and “talking” here, helps to figure it all out. I mean, I have never, ever felt this strongly about the success of a celebrity before. Now I’m on a crusade to make sure the world knows about David’s unsurpassed vocal talent and beautiful spirit. It’s something that just brings such hope and positive feelings to the world. Shouldn’t everyone get it? Mark, know that you can always take what you need from this site, and that it’s not a requirement to post. Some people need the “therapy,” if you will, of sharing and some people are content to read and feel validated. Welcome and “chat” when you want. You are a wonderful writer, by the way.

I will be requesting a different song (gasp!) to dedicate to my hubby on our 21st anniversary today! #161 Andrea-It really is amazing how we were all brought together by David. I have thought that and said that so many times.
I want to say that I love hanging out here with all of you every day! Sometimes being a SAHM can get a little dull and lonely. Don’t get me wrong, I love it and I’m very fortunate that I am able to do it. However, it’s pretty quiet at times because most everyone around here works, so that leaves me on my own quite a bit. All of you guys have made the days so much more fun and “busy” for me. I feel as though I’ve made 20 new friends in the past few months and there’s always someone to talk to. I can sit here and talk to all of you about David and you all totally get it! There are so many times that I’ve sat here laughing until I am crying and I love to laugh. It’s especially nice when my husband is out of town (which he is a lot with his job). I can sit on the couch with the computer while my kids are doing their thing and talk with everyone all night. Makes me not miss the hubby so much. So. . . thank you all for being my friends! I really hope that one day we will be able to meet each other. What a blast we would have!

I would think the photographer would have to have been a Brooklyn local in order to know know about the location for the shoot. That wasn’t random, it was a perfect choice for the look they were going for. It took David completely out of his UTAH comfort zone and plopped him in the streets of Brooklyn! It would make a great setting for a movie! I loved the randomness of it, the graffitti, the guy riding by on the bike, the very outdated cop car, the piano… all perfect backdrops.

Mark, I totally enjoyed reading your letter and related to it in so many ways. One of things about David is that he has made me feel young again.( I just can’t get used to clicking on that bottom spot on the ballot.) It has been a very long time since I related to a 20 yr. old, especially a male. However…. your story seems like it could have ben written by me. The way you “got” David early in the competition, tuning in to only watch him, the nonstop voting, the researching everything on line about him, listening to cellcasts….wow! I copied your letter into an email and sent it to friends with the subject reading “See, I’m not crazy.” My friends need to know I am just one of the masses and they are out of it. I, too, am fairly new to this FOD site, having coming over from Rickey’s, although I was not aware of any Archie issues there, but I now have 5 fansites on the bookmark bar on my computer. It was great listening to your thoughts and feelings about David…the young man, and David the very talented musical artist!!! How did we all become so blessed? You recount took me back to the beginning of Idol too. I really enjoyed reliving all of my impressions and inspirations of David and what he has done for me!!!
This is such a warm fuzzy feeling here! As in a family, we are all different, but come together with the common love and support of one of our members David. He feels like a grandson, a son, a brother, and a friend. He is all things to all of us. We love him as if we were part of his family!

Thanks for posting that, his mother must be so proud of him. I’m glad they picked one to fit his mature & powerful side of his personality. She has a good insight of her son’s needs and his destiny. She is a remarkable women, to give up so much of her son, and her husband in order to let David reach his destiny in life. Kudo’s to Lupe, I’m sure it hasn’t been an easy road for her, alone with the children like that.
As a mother of a male teen myself, I couldn’t help but notice when I was at the Ford Concert, David is maturing into manhood before our eyes. He is getting broader in the upper area of his body and his face at times looked more masculine.

Ok, #137 Kristin’s posting of EW.com sent me to the girlie interview comparing David’s. And I couldn’t resist this one. It urked me terribly that these two girls could just talk randomly about David that way. They seemed very uninformed to the talent of David. Why is it that so many think that playing a guitar is the only qualifier of a good musician? Why is this “Guitar Hero” fad stupidifying (is this a word?) our music culture? There whole comparison was related to the instrument abilities of the two, as if this is what qualifies you to be a good singer. So, I sent my comments and I hope they were not too mean. But, it just upset me that these to ditsy brainless girls were even allowed to share their stupidity on internet. Here is my comments to EW

Oh, you two little women just think if a singer is as young as David Archuleta that they are not “old” enough to be a singer. Well, that is offensive to those of us who look for music for its quality not it’s LOUDNESS in our ears.
Please be a bit more considerate of his age and style,.
And, just because the loud guitar sound is not drumming through your ears does not mean the song doesn’t send shivers down your spine. Maybe, for once, the voice of David Archuleta is enough for some musically in tune to appreciate. I don’t think you even considered their voices in the discussion here. It was just about the noise of the instruments. So, I’m hopeful that your next coverage of the two will be the vocal talent of the two and not the instrumentation abilities of the two. For the guitar quality that Cook has I will commend, agreeing with Simon Cowell that keeping the guitar attached to Cook will be his best asset. And Archuleta’s voice is what makes him most desired!!!!!!

Do you all realize what a record we have of David’s life? We’ve seen him from his audition to his first big concert. We watched him hear his first song played on radio, saw his reaction when fans sang his song to him the first time, saw his reaction to finding out he debuted at number 2 on Billboard, saw him on set of his first video and now this! It is just mindboggling. I’ve never experienced anything quite like this. I think I like it! oh oh and saw him perform his single for the first time also!

I really want to stay and chat, but the boss is lurkiing. UGH! But have to tell you all that “the chair” pic has completely corrupted me. I went to a meeting this morning, shooks hands, and was told “please have a seat” HHMMMM…OK. So, as I am pulling up a chair I begin to kind of chuckle to myself. I’m telling you that picture gives the phrase “pull up a chair” a whole new meaning!!!!

It amazes me that David, Mr I don’t like having my picture taken, can be totally relaxed and in the zone of a shoot at the same time a video crew is following his every move! Talk about being able to focus!

The main question posted here is “is it possible for both David’s to find success on the charts this season”. Well both Davids have. David Archuleta’s Crush was the highest single debut since 2007 and the highest ranking single debut in Idol history. So, that is something phenomonal for such a young music artist. His stardom is guarenteed. And David Cook looks to have a pop ballad coming out this week which looks to do very well also. Cook’s song is definately NOT ROCK girls. You need to do your research on what rock music is.
But, they both should do very very well in the music industry. So, please give them both respect regardless of age, race, or music style. We hope for no discrimination!

In regards to the EW article. I did not read it but really it doesn’t matter. I try not to read or listen to that kind of garbage. David’s soaring popularity and sales proves they have no clue what they are talking about. We should feel sorry for these poor unfortunate souls. I just get a little tired of the “too young to be take seriously musically” mentality of so many out there in the entertainment industry. In a way, this happened when Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers became popular, and even so with Jordin Sparks. Young artists who don’t sing sexy just don’t seem to be up to par. Like music has to be about “that” all the time. I’m not comparing David to MC and JB but more so with Jordin. She is very young and her songs have not been explicit and her interviews speak out about living a clean life. But, still, it has taken some time for her to be taken seriously. I think that is why she once said that she thought David Cook would win Idol. She knew how hard it had been for her and the young age and clean cut lyrics in her songs are a bit different than most in the music industry. But, the advantage both David Arch and Sparks have is stay time. They ARE so young starting out that they have the chance to be around ALOT longer and for that I am forever grateful. So, I’m trying to look at this like I think David is. He knows he has take time as his favor and I think he respects that. I just have to keep listening to you all and remind myself not to take seriously the comments of one or two that don’t understand the whole picture.

EW are idiots…..they gave David such a hard time while he was on Idol….that’s why I was so surprised to see David did an interview with Slezak…..he also made some cruel statements about David and his song choices and personality while DA was on Idol….but David is so above all of them…..more mature at 17 years old than they can ever be…..

#277 Lynn, As a rock lead guitarist myself I have to disagree with you that what Cook sings in NOT ROCK. I don’t like the way he sings and I find his music “typical” of many “rock” artist today, (one reason I love David so much, he is original) but it is rock music. There are many different genre within the category of rock, psychedelic, glam, soft, hard, progressive, metal, arena, to name a few and my genre, instrumental rock. Point is rock encompasses a wide area and Cook definitely falls in that category. Just don’t want to short change him on his chosen style of music whether I like it or not. No harm meant, just pointing out the facts.

I was listening to Cook’s “Light On” this week and one of my very first thoughts was how “typical” it sounds..very much like Daughtry, but not quite as good and the next thought I had was how good his voice sounded when the loud, vibrating background music wasn’t drowning him out. I think that our David may cross over to a form of “rock” in time as well, because he definitely has the musical skills to do so…he has so many different directions to travel.

Also , I was kind of surprised that you didn’t root for either Clay , Rueben , or even Kimberly Locke from Season 2 instead you rooted for Kimberly Caldwall which imo really wasn’t that talented to me (sorry ) . You have been watching since Season 2 but I have been following AI since season 1 when it was termed as a guinea pig or test subject to see what will happen after this season will it be picked up for season 2 or cancealled ??? ( of coarse everyone knows the answer to that ) . I 2 was flipping through the channels and that is how I discovered Kelly Clarkson in the top 10 of the AI competition . Anyhoo , I guess we both found our favorite Idol on season 7 by watching the show we both tune in every season but I discovered him during Hollywood week where I also knew like you (when you watch his top 24 performance ) that this guy is the one I will be rooting till the end and it never changed . I actually wrote David about this in a short letter I gave him that was in a gift bag I handed to someone else to hand to David from me . Anyway , It was brief letter and it pretty much said I will support him on whatever he does in his carrer and never change who you are even if the industry wants to change you . It had some other stuff on that letter like how his music inspired me but that is some of the few things I remember writing . I guess the point I am getting across from all this random rambling is that it doesn’t matter what age , gender , sex , religion , culture , or etc etc David inspires a lot of people with his music and not just the tweeners and the grandmothers out there .

300/ealbino: I was so thrilled at how good the interview with Michael Slezak turned out! It was one of David’s best interviews ever and MS has since referred to David as “charming”, so he finally saw the “real” David during that interview. Sooner or later, if they are lucky, ney-sayers finally do “get” David!
The haters will always be there. Unfortunately we can not convert all them.
So I do not respond to the negative comments they leave. Eventually a lot of them will come around , or at least get tired of bashing and sadly move on to someone else. The thing is, they are scared. That is the only reason they have for doing it. If they were not afraid that David is going to go a lot further and be more successful than their favorite they wouldn’t feel the need to try and bring him down the way they do.Instead of spending their energy supporting their artist they waste their time trying to bring David down and guess what? It’s not working! David’s fanbase keeps growing! They are fighting a losing battle and I choose not to engage them. I’ll spend my energy supporting David Archuleta!

#315 Marylee-I loved that interview. David was so cute and so funny in it and seemed totally relaxed! I think there’s so much jealousy involved which is why I think there are so many of these so-called “bashers” out there. How often do you find a 17 year old with David’s kind of talent? Even my 12 year old son said to me last night, “I wish I was David.” I asked him why and he said, “Well, he’s good looking, he can sing really well and play the piano and now he’s famous”. My son said that after we started talking about the corn maze! I think a lot of people out there wish they were David right about now. However, the more people who hear him, I think, will eventually fall in love with him just like we all have!
Right when I hit the submit button on my post, Crush came on the radio and the DJ started talking about how cool it was about the corn maze in Utah. Funny!

Thanks for posting that, it looks impressive. I have this feeling he will be going on some international touring in a year or two, maybe when he is done with his senior year? When I did the book of tributes for the males, I got tributes from International males as well. He really has inspired people from all ages, genders and ethnic regions. I wonder how many other artists out there, have done this at such an early stage in their career.

Thank you Mark for your beautiful “testimonial”. You had me in tears and I could relate on so many levels! I am mostly a lurker (usually because it takes me forever to get through reading all the comments and have no time left to post) but I will occasionally post things. I love this sight and the “family feel” that it has. I know when I need to get my David time in this is the first place I come to. And when I need to feel like I’m not totally insane, I come here and see that I am definitely not alone. Mark, thanks for the wonderful story. I’m glad you decided to de-lurk yourself – that takes guts! I’m on the edge of lurker, I post & chat once in a while. My “aha” moment when watching David on AI was when he sang “Stand by Me” and added the “beautiful girls” part. I thought, “wow, that was original.” Then the next few days blew up with controversy. No matter, I was a David follower after that and no turning back. I even infected my 15 year old son who never saw one AI episode, but now loves David & went to the concert with me.
Thanks to the FOD mods and fans for making this such a special site. I’m so glad to see the popularity of this site going up (comment #’s going up). With so many David fan sites, we all want to be joined in community and I think this site does a fantastic job accomplishing that.
Hi Tom! I spend a lot of time on this forum, but I guess I subscribe to the “know thy enemy”, “knowledge is power” mantra and philosophy… It gives me a broader perspective – good, bad, indifferent and sometimes ugly – of how David is perceived in the marketplace.. though I can say overall, from what I’ve stumbled across these past few months, he has a very positive image, and is perceived as undeniably talented – even by those who make those feeble attempts to disparage him.. He’ll be standing at the top of the heap when these posers, haters and detractors inevitably fade away – of this I’m certain!

Took a lunch break, then went back and looked at the photo shoot video AGAIN! Each time you watch, you pick up on something cuter, if that’s possible…the camera loves him for sure! I wish we had just an inkling of an idea what songs will be on the album…I’m just dying to know! I think I’ll google it and see what comes up…wishful thinking, I know.

Mark it was so nice to read your story. It is what so many of us are feeling but can’t express. You are lucky to be computer savy enough to lurk at the sites. I fell in love with David from the auditions with he and Randy doing the ” waiting” duet. I had no clue that these cites existed so I sat in my own little world glued to idol and recording each show to feed my ODD. I would call my husband in every time David sang but he didn’t ” get it”. He thought he was good but he wasn’t pulled in. I got my friend interested at the end but that was it, just interest. When Idol went on tour I finally figured out there were fan sites with videos of the performances. I lurked for a long time cause I thought these people were buddies for so long I didn’t want to intrude. I read all the stories and comments and felt so close to David. Finally I realized that they were all the same as me Addcted to David so I started to post. I love it here. It is such good therapy for the ODD. I welcome you as they welcomed me. Its hard sometimes to post because by the time you read it all everybody has gone to bed.
Just a question for you all-How do you all stay up on your housework and stuff?? Do you all have maids? My poor house has really suffered since my ODD started!!! Maybe someone can give me some tips on how to manage outside world and still have time for coming here!!! Keep in mind that I have 4 kids ages 11, 9, 8, and 3 1/2. I love all of you for saying things that I am thinking but am too shy to post!! Those chair pics are thuderiffic!!!!

Last night when I had dinner with a friend she told me she had an article for me. She will give it to me later. She said it was Paul Anka wanting David to be him in a movie bioing him. He said he reminds him so much of himself as a young man. It would be great but somehow I don’t think David wants to act just yet. He is spending so much time on his music. Maybe in a year or two he will be ready. That would great to see him on the big screen. What were we saying yesterday about Elvis….. Movies may be next!!

I have a question to pose to all of you, or anyone who would like to respond that is. I just went back and reread the amazingly extraordinary story by Brett, about David excepting the call to speak at the fireside when he was home briefly this summer. Then I reread the comments by suttygal (thank you) regarding David’s true character. As I sit at work trying not to show my tears to my fellow co-workers, I began to wonder. We all feel so deeply about David, in just a few months time of seeing and hearing him. The reality is we, as his fans, only began meeting him in person in July, though we watched him on AI prior. In three short months, we fell in love with his humbleness and feel affection for the way he shows that love back to us by signing autographs, taking time to look us in the eye and talk to us and doing silly things for us like putting on Chap Stick. So my question is, can anyone envision what it must be like for the other contestants that spent so many more months actually in his presence talking and interacting with him, to not be around him now. I think I would be going through withdrawals. Can you imagine having that light with you, interacting with you on a daily basis, and then have it gone? I just felt sorry for them after rereading these wonderful stories of David and wondered how they are doing. What do y’all think? ∞♥DJA♥∞

#301 Tom, Well I was only stating what my husband claims. My husband is a classic rock, soft rock lover…Bruce Springsteen lover… and he always hates it when people call David Cook a rocker. He always says he is not rock. So, I took my info. from one of the best music guru’s I knew and that was my husband. So, maybe he’s thinking of the typical “rock” singer and Cook in his mind does not fit into that. does that make sense?
And , Maybe one of David Archuleta’s new songs will be rock. He could sing any of Daughtry’s songs and sound good, cuz I think Daughtry has a pop sound to his songs also. David could sing so many different styles, and I think that is what he is playing with right now. He is so talented voice wise, and that is what urks me the most. So many of these anti-Archuleta comments are not looking at his voice…and Idol did nothing for any of the contestants except share their “voice” talent. They were confined to themes each week and that limited many of them to a style not quite to their fitting.

I guess skimming through Mark ’s letter was a bad move on my part so after I read ur comment I actually read it this time Kimberly Locke is a very talented singer but I will stick to my original comment about Kimberly Caldwell not being talented at all imo . She (Kimberly C ) is getting kind of annoying to me cuz she dates a different guy from idol every year but for what reason so her star won’t fade <- I use the word star loosely . I guess people like her need attention so people will still talk about her in the media and she probably knows by now that her 15 minutes ran out about 5 years jmo . The final thing I want to say to her is that AI won’t last forever so when that show is over who will she date Hmmm any guesses ???

I was going through the check list of daily things to do, and did my requests. We still don’t have Crush on all the stations here in MI. I just don’t get it. Argh….frustrating. Is anyone else having a problem getting it in their state? Only one person said they would see what they would do.

#368 It is very hard. I try to keep the site open and come back every once in a while to catch up. I also access it fom my cell phone. Can’t always post but I try to keep up on the comments. Now I am fixing lunch but I refresh inbetween. I have neglected some things though. I make jewelry and I haven’t done it since I have been here. I have several pieces that need to be worked on and in the winter we have craft shows that I am not even prepared fro. I will have to take a break from FOD and really focus. I don’t know if I can do it. FOD is just as addicting as David!

I consider us the enlightened ones, lol! some of them will come around, some already have, and some never will. for those that don’t – it’s their loss. we are the lucky ones and i try to focus on that and not get into what the “hatahs” say/write. #370 pam05, the other Pam that posts here on occation, is also from the Detroit area….she has e-mailed one of your local radio stations and talked to the DJ so many times now that he knows her name…..but as much as he told her he would love to play “Crush” the managers have not added it to the list yet….she is very frustrated and has just about given up…..she also said the same station plays Cook alot….not sure of the station’s name at the moment….but she has been trying like crazy to get them to play it….

Rebeccarchifan #371, you pose an interesting question. I also think about his presence at school and being around his friends and in the chorus. (No wonder we never heard of David before, they weren’t about to lose their diamond voice to the world! lol). And most of all, his family, his mom, and what it must be liked for them to have him absent from the home, although I’m sure they are in constant contact. I’m sure the other idols all know each others phone numbers and only have to reach out and call him whenever they want. An advantage we don’t have. And just as they pursue their careers seperately, they must enjoy watching David ascend with his.
Morning, Ladies (and gentlemen, too): OK, it’s only 11 AMish here, so don’t think I’m such a slug! I simply COULD NOT SLEEP last night because “images of David danced through my head”. I mean ALL NIGHT! I could not sleep. My poor husband. I’m just amazed I finally dozed off at around 6 AM MDT after I posted the first comment.

I noticed that also, they play Cooks alot. They must favor him over our David. It’s the only thing I can think off as to why they haven’t played his. I meet 2 DJ’s one from 06.3fm and one from 96.1fm. and they both said they have played it, but I have never heard it played. Go figure, they must not play it enough, or else I would of heard it played. The other 2 stations say they don’t have it but will let the director know, I’ve been hearing that line for a long time now.

Hi Pam05 – Cook may have a slight – emphasis on slight – edge in getting some initial airplay from these stations… they may be more familiar w/him due to TOML, and feel he is more of known quantity…… Our David is closing this gap though.. I seek out Frogcooke’s and Soundscenes chart and airplay stats on David’s forum @ IDF daily to track Crush’s spins, audience impressions, etc.. those two are phenomenal and gathering and interpreting this data!

David Archuleta, he is such a great roll model for young kids and young adults like you in making this world a better place. Man, my brain is still asleep…when I say I thought about that video all night, I AM NOT KIDDING! You might think I’m “CRAZY”…Probably!! Over and over and over in my mind…the cute little striped shirt (clipped in the back…*sigh*), the red shirt…the VEST!…the HAT…the way David brushed his hands together in that adorable way, like,I don’t know, like what…David sitting at that piano with the “CRUSHed” keys ( what a stroke of artistic genius)…David hanging off the side of the buildin…David sitting Waaaaay back in the chair, hanging down his arms…Argggg! See what I mean? The entire video was like a beautiful “harmonic convergence”- everything was brilliantly planned and executed and David made it so so so , well, YOU know!

I’m not sure if they are more likely to play the winner’s song… those playlists and the politics that go along with what gets added and what doesn’t will make your head hurt! I do think more “established” artists, ones with track records of hits, will have the edge more times than not over someone new…
