Big News About David!
Fans of David has learned from a very reliable source that David is going to be songwriting this week with Matthew Gerrard, who co-wrote “Breakaway” for Kelly Clarkson, and Robbie Nevil, who has worked with numerous young artists.
According to Songwriter Universe magazine, Matthew Gerrard has been “one of the most in-demand, pop writer/producers for the past decade. He co-wrote the Kelly Clarkson smash “Breakaway,” and has also had hits with Hilary Duff (“I Can’t Wait” and “Why Not”), Jesse McCartney (“She’s No You”), Eden’s Crush (“Get Over Yourself”) and Nick Carter (“Help Me”).” Gerrard has also co-wrote and produced three songs on the High School Musical soundtrack and the Hannah Montana album and has collaborated with diverse artists such as Avril Lavigne and the Plain White T’s. Robbie Nevil is a co-writer of Jordin Sparks’s current hit “One Step At A Time” and has also collaborated on the HSM soundtrack as well as Hannah Montana. You may remember his hit “C’est La Vie” from 1987 (he actually had a string of Billboard Hot 100 hits from his debut album).
How do we feel about this? Are you conflicted? On the one hand, perhaps you do not envision David’s career going down the path of the Disney superstars: you had in mind the type of music produced by John Mayer, Natasha Bedingfield, and Sara Bareilles. On the other hand, Gerrard and Nevil have contributed heavily to multi-platinum albums: they know how to write music that sells. The fact that our source specifically mentioned “Breakaway” and “One Step At A Time” reassures me that the writers and producers David will be working with know the direction he wishes to take his music, and the material they write with him will be worthy of his talents. Jennifer B.’s story:
While driving to work today, I began replaying my amazing Tulsa Concert experience in my head and I began to cry (a good cry), which was scary as I was getting on the freeway during rush hour. It had finally dawned on me that my dream had become a reality.
Back in July, Jenny posted two pictures I took of David at the meet-n-greet before the concert in Portland, Oregon. I had no idea the buzz those pictures would create for so many fans I was floored to see so many people loving those two pictures I had taken of David. I realized that if I had one wish or dream it would to be to give those two pictures to David’s Dad and Mom. In my mind this dream was a complete fantasy because I felt there was no way I could ever give pictures to people I had never met and who had never met me.
After becoming a part of Fans of David, I had not idea the wonderful path it would lead me down. With two weeks before the last concert, I found myself with the most overwhelming desire to attend the concert with the knowledge I would get to meet with everyone I had been chatting with for the past two months and of course DAVID. While flying 1,900 miles does seem crazy to the most, I knew in my heart that I had to be a part of this concert, I had to go and see David sing his heart out one last time. I had no idea what seats I had or whether I had backstage passes. I simply knew I had to be part of this magical event.
Upon getting to Tulsa, I immediately saw Richard, Karla and April in my shuttle and had the best “shock” of my life. I knew from that point on, something special was going to happen but I had no idea how special. Meeting up with everyone of Fans of David was so special because I got to see that David truly does have the most amazing and wonderful fans. Everyone was what I had expected after chatting with them the past few months. It was like I had known everyone for years.
As everyone knows by now, the Meet-N-Greet before the show was beyond crazy. I got there at 9 am just so that I could be in the back by 2:30. Note to self…never do that again. It was the most absurb thing to be part of but I would not change it for the world. While I did not get a chance to really see David until after he passed by, I was able to have one of my dreams come true. When I finally wiggled my way to the front of the line to start snapping pictures (sorry if I did not get as many), I noticed that Jeff Archuleta had come out. All of a sudden it dawned on me that here was my one chance to give Jeff the two photos I had taken in Portland. When Jeff finally made it down to my area, I was able to give him the two pictures I had been holding. He looked at them and said these are amazing pictures and I almost cried, my dream had come true. It was the most rewarding 2 minutes of my life to know he now had those pictures to keep forever. The next amazing thing was I got to meet Lupe before the concert started and handed over the remaining “angelic” photos I had so she could give them to her family. KoKo told me that she remembers seeing David’s grandmother holding it and caressing the photo fondly. That is the best compliment I have ever had about a photo I took; to know it was with his family just meant the world to me.
During the After Party, I finally got my one opportunity to meet David face to face. He took my breath away, especially when he kept singing under his breath. I just felt so honored and blessed to finally get my chance to see him for the 2 minutes I had to talk to him. I told him that I was from Oregon and had never flown to see anyone before and that he was favorite Idol. I told him what an amazing person I thought he was and during this whole time he was giving me his complete attention and just kept smiling and saying thank you. It was such an unbelievable rush and feeling to be that close to him and tell him how I felt. David then asked if I had been to another venue before and I said in Portland. He asked if I had given him a scrapbook, which I said no, I had given him 3 photo collages of him with fans. But the highlight is that he remembers seeming me in a scrapbook. I remember saying “wow, really”. Whoever gave him that scrapbook….”THANK YOU”.
So, this is why I was crying this morning (and getting a little teary eyed writing this out). I don’t know what good deed I did to have been granted my dream and wish to come true. The only thing I know is that I was meant to meet all of you amazing fans and to experience this amazing event with all of you. Because of David, we will always be connected to each other and perhaps that is what this was all about…to become part of each others lives.
I have to say one big Thank You to Richard and Karla Parkinson because without you, I would not have experienced something so amazing with all of you. Richard and Karla: Thank you so very much for blessing me with this wonderful experience. You both are “Angels” to me!! I also have a BIG thank you to Jenny. If she had not posted those two pictures, I truly would not have been granted this amazing experience.
Tara’s story:
Not sure where to begin. I have done a write up before of my experience meeting David but this time its just different. I have to say first that I feel really really blessed to have had the experiences in these last few months that i’ve had. I appreciate the opportunites to meet David and speak to him however briefly.
I think I may have been one of the last to arrive at the BOK center on Saturday afternoon right before autographs. Walking up the stairs towards that huge crowd I was sooo happy to have spotted so many of my friends I felt as though i’d come to my second home. After giving big hugs to Amy and April I was so thrilled to see Richard walking toward me..surprise! I was so happy, got a big hug and spotted Karla soon thereafter. I’m so happy you both came! Love you both! Soon after I saw Becky, who is just adorable and introduced myself. Then seeing Vox, Doc, Mary, Christy, Serena and Nancy. Others that I had met for the first time too like Jenleigh, Koko and Annie! Saw Linha too, you crazy woman:) I’m sorry if I missed anyone. So soon thereafter a shreik let out and sure enough here comes David flashing that glorious smile! Thanks to a few people being nice enough to step aside a little after they saw David I was able to sneek up front along with Mary and
Serena and was able to hand David a copy of Billboard magazine to sign and one for him to keep which he seemed to really appreciate. And can I just say real quick..those eyes..wow! Anyway, I started to sweat like crazy being crammed in there so I moved out of the way and when we were all finished we headed back to the hotel. After cleaning up a bit, April had arranged it so that we could all get together downstairs for a buffet in the hotel restaraunt. Thanks April ((hugs)). We headed over to the BOK center after squeezing like 7 people in Koko’s car. She was nice enough to drop us all off before finding a place to park. Thanks koko! Amy and I before heading to our seats saw Lupe and David’s grandma in the concourse and said hello to them both and soon after came Brett and his wife Cindy. Soo nice to meet you both finally!
The concert was just wonderful. All of the idols gave it everything they had, lots of emotions coming out. And David was just glorious. He gave so much of himself into his performances and I had heard Angels like I haven’t heard it before. And as Mary had stated in her report, that vest he wore. WOW…I was blessed along with others to go to the afterparty so we waited and the security guard came by checking passes, once telling Lupe she didn’t have a pass so she had to go,LOL. We were like but thats David’s mother! He said “oh…sorry mom!” ..it was really funny. Backstage I had the chance to talk to Chikezie and tell him how wonderful I thought he was and had so much talent. He said thank you so sweetly and gave me such a nice hug. David’s line was big so I waited for a little while and went over to say hi to Lupe and took a picture together. I also spoke with Jeff which was so nice and he is just so appreciative of David’s fans. He explained that
David wouldn’t have much time off before heading off to record more for the album. I went to stand in line for David and when it was my turn he sang “Hello” it was cute! He sang alot backstage, and I wondered if it was because there were no more restrictions since the tour was over. He told me he had a chance to read the Billboard mag I gave him which was sweet. We took a picture and before he left that night he passed out hugs to everyone! Ray mentioned that he had to get going that HE had a plane to catch..I was like well, you can go catch your plane and all of us will stay here and watch David,LOL. But that didn’t seem to work. After the concert at the hotel we gathered in the lobby for 2am pizza and Richard had set up his computer so it would broadcast live on jtv! So much fun to talk to everyone.
Sunday morning some of us met to go to church. I so enjoyed that experience and Richard sang a beautiful song for us which just brought me to tears. How special it was to be there with all of these people I care about so much. We headed off to lunch shortly after that at Cracker Barrel..great food! After heading back to the hotel we gathered together for a while in the lobby followed by lots of tears and hugs and goodbyes.
I just want to say that this whole experience from all the way back in January when Idol started, has changed my life in so many ways. I never dreamed I’d meet so many wonderful people and I owe it to you David. Thank you so much for your beautiful spirit and for wanting to share your gift with all of us. For being so selfless and kind to every fan you encountered and for the remarkable positive example you set. To my friends..Amy, Mary, Christy, Serena, Fran..our crazy times in DC! Amy, from finale night phone calls to now..your friendship is so special to me always. Nancy, you are a good friend, I think you are wonderful. April, thank you for your friendship, i’m so blessed to have it. Richard..you are a wonderful man and thank you so much for starting this site and being so good and selfless to us all. I appreciate you more than words can say. Karla, what a beautiful soul you are, thank you for our talks ((hugs))and for carrying my bag because I was
hurting. To all of you, friends new and old, I love you all so much and even if your name isn’t here I haven’t forgotten you, I think of you all, all the time. I’ll miss this but know that David’s career is just beginning and there are so many more wonderful memories to make. Jeff and Lupe, thank you SO much. i think this is GREAT news.
i personally do NOT want david going down the disney road, but working with such writers does not necessarily mean that. Breakaway and One Step at A Time are some of my favorite songs. I think this direction would be great for david, especially for his debut album. and the fact that he’s only 17.

David Cook’s first single, “Light On,” produced by Grammy winning producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock) is released radio this week and will be made available on iTunes on 9/30.
“Light On” will premiere exclusively on AOL Music on Wednesday, September 24, on AOL’s pop culture news site, PopEater.com. Earlier this year, Cook had the biggest single premiere of the year on PopEater.com with “The Time of My Life” garnering more than one million streams in 24 hours.
So great to hear that David has teamed up with such notable songwriters! I just know that David is “floating on a cloud” right now and that warms my heart. Even though we have lost that daily contact we had with him for the past nine+ months, we can all be thankful that we did our part to get him where he is today which is the beginning stages of his brilliant career! We have the privilege of knowing that he will be spending his time doing exactly what he wants to do…which is to “make music” for us.

I heard about cook’s song coming out .I personally am not concerned about it. As long as all of David’s fans keep supporting him every way possible he is going to be fine. It’s not important for him to “beat” Cook. As we’ve said many times the compition is over. I know a lot of Cook fans are going to turn it into one again and if he sells more than David they will be gloating, but who cares? As long as our David is successfull is all that matters to me and he doesn’t have to sell more than Cook to do it. Just keep supporting him every day!

Can you help me to contact webmaster@davidcookofficial.com? In the new press release for David Cook’s new single, they state that “TIME OF MY LIFE” is the highest new entry of Hot100 in 2008. We all know that David’s Crush is the highest entry of Billboard Hot100 not only in 2008, but also since Feb 2007.
I don’t want the mistake of their press release take away the honor of Crush. Thank you very much for your help.
I just can’t get over how gorgeous David is……he is a feast for the eyes……he makes all others look plain…(jennifer 8-)-with the ‘vest’ on–yea I’ll have one of those !!!

Seems like Cook’s Light On single will follow the Daughtry path since one of the co-authors wrote for Daughtry and Hinder. Hmm, if it’s like the Lips of an Angel then YUCK! but if it’s like Chris Cornell’s (the other co-author) stuff then it may be good even though one of Chris Cornell’s song was used in Casino Royale, a Bond movie for crying out loud. All of this rambling to say that it’s very good that David is working with people who know how to write good pop songs. David will have lots of time to do what he really wants after he achieves popularity and name recognition. At least Breakaway ain’t Disturbia or So What. I like Pink but I hate So What.
Anyway, don’t anyone go buying Light On (just kidding). Cook’s stuff is not my thang cause all alt rock sounds the same to me. I like some easy listening Daughtry, not enough to buy it, though.

#27 ealbino: Yeah it’s going to be one of those times that we are going to be hearing all the comparisons again. We have to try to ignore them. It will be tough but it’s not worth it to complain everytime. We will go through it again when the albums are released. I can not wait until they stop comparing them. JUST KEEP SUPPORTING DAVID!
David’s mom Lupe is absolutely lovely and I think David got his good looks from her.
The songwriting efforts sound exciting! Breakaway is a good song and I think no matter who writes it – a good song is a good song and I think David will be able to put his distinctive mark on it no matter who he writes with. As Jeff says and Dean Kaelin agrees, David’s lyric writing is amazing. So I’m really eager for the cd to come out.

I remember Robbie Neville from his days with Sly and Robbie! C’est La Vie I remember well. He’s one heckuva songwriter! I hope that David’s single Crush will climb back on the charts this week cuz his single finally cracked the the top 10 on the itunes chart and his video is #2 now . I guess everyone read that article about Cook having the the highest debut in 2008 which btw is entirely false cuz everyone knows it was Crush that had the highest debut thus far in 2008 . The article is misleading but when it was written it was true what it said that TOML probably did have the highest debut in 2008 but didn’t last long cuz the song Crush of coarse made sure it won’t be the highest charting debut in 2008 . Everyone was talking about this so I thought I should jump on the bandwagon on this topic 2 . The song Light on by Cook is going to debut midnight 2nite on AOL music if anyone wants to listen it and FYI the song will be released on itunes 9/30 if anyone is considering buying the song . Idk some info on Cook if anyone cared .

WITH YOU ALL THE WAY SCOTT! It’s past time to set aside lingering hurts and bitterness from AI… David has risen above that on a personal level, and professionally he is successfully blazing his own musical identity. We have no control over a lot of what the MSM will print to stir up needless comparisons and competition between he and DC, but we have control over our own reactions and responses to it. By remaining focused on our task at hand by supporting David Archuleta to the fullest, there is no doubt in my mind that these media generated fan wars will become moot! We have backed a true WINNER – not one defined in the context of a reality based show, but one in that all important game show called life… David A all the way!
Please don’t stone me, but I have mixed feelings about the type of songs they have written as pertaining to David. Yes they have produced some major hits, I guess I am hoping for also for some of the David WYSYLM stuff. The artists mentioned have had numerous # 1 hits, I just wasn’t thinking radio Disneyish. *ducking*

Hello everyone.
Scott, I go along with your thinking on David’s music. David and Cook are two different artists putting out different types of music and cannot be compared. Who sells the most does not really matter, they will both be huge successes.
I am not a rock fan, used to be when I was younger, but now I like songs with a message (where have I heard that before?) and music that is “beautiful”. The kind of songs David sings with great emotion and passion. I will buy whatever David puts out, but I hope there are a few tracks like that on the album.

There are not many chances in life to ride along with a new rising star. Since the AI wave started with David I feel like I was soaring on top of the ocean and now since the end of tour that wave has crashed (or crushed) on to the beach. At first it seemed a little sad to be standing here looking at the sand as if that was all there was. Now I see that all I have to do is grab hold of my Archuboard (with Fans of David help of course) and paddle back out. There are going to be many many waves to surf along with David James Archuleta. ∞♥DJA♥∞

No need to duck Candy! That is the rock and the hard place David finds himself in with us… how to satisfy the one side of the fanbase with the more young, uptempo stuff and the others with the more mature sound to which we’ve become accustomed… we’ve got to allow David the opportunity to spread his wings, and branch out beyond “the familiar” in this stage of his career… WYSYLM. in my opinion, is not what he needs to be leading off with… it’s imperative for him to build a strong bases of fans beyond those of us who’ve been here from the beginning, if he wants a shot at lasting commercial and critical success… 2 or 3 albums down the road – songs like WYSYLM can dominate on his releases… it’s all in the timing, and right now, I really feel Jive and his management are taking the right foundational steps to secure a long, successful career…
I know I’ve said it before, but I LOVE the way David curls the right side of his upper lip… (look at 2nd pic above) I think my heart just took a few ArchuBombs!
I guess another thing that sort of jolted me as how drastically ( and quickly) Kelly Clarkson changed from her AI days to her new image. It’s the “I like David just the way he is ” that I am hoping doesnt go way.

Yes he is #2 But after one whole week at #1! Besides it is the SU2C Video for charity isn’t it. I think it is great the folks he is working with and he needs to be popular first before he can explore other exciting types of songs. I think he said the CD was going to be eclectic didn’t he? Wouldn’t be surprised by a duo and even a techno hip hop kind of thing. Who knows it is David and it will be GREAT!

#98 Scott – I agree and as David always says “my family keeps me grounded.” You know his dad will stick with him and be a guiding influence. But his dad always says David has his own mind and is strong in what he wants.
We don’t realize how strong we are as a fanbase!… A lot of our efforts have helped propel David forward, and if we continue applying that pin point focus in buying David’s work, performing the activities listed in Becky’s articles each day, and internalizing the FACT that (1) this young man from Murray, Utah is a force to be reckoned with,(2) his amazing talent can and will not be denied, we will overcome any lingering doubts about his success. The road getting there will not always be easy, or free from the occasional misstep, but David has proven time and time again to be extremely resilient… the old saying “whatever doesn’t kill ya makes ya stronger” applies in this situation – He and we’ve come through AI unbowed, and I’m ready to meet whatever challenges may lie ahead… my CRUSH on all things Archuleta ain’t goin’ awayyyyyyy

I voted VH1 over 70 times yesterday, it’s really easy. Please everyone, try to get him to the top of the countdown, there’s nothing like watching his gorgeous face on big screen HDTV. I was totally floored yesterday when I unexpectedly saw it played on VH1, it was very exciting.

My life was put into a quick perspective last night when my best friend of more than twenty years was put into the hospital with blood clots in her lungs. I write this not for sympathy for myself or for her but with the hope that as I have seen over and over again in life that the power of prayer is real.
I would ask that, if you are so inclined, today as we read, rally and revel in all things David that you take a moment to ask our Heavenly Father to grant health for Debbie, He will know who she is.
I remember reading just a few short weeks ago, that someone told David that they felt the Holy Ghost when listening to him sing. David, just being the humble person he is, he smiled and responded to her in a whisper that is why I love singing so much it is not just about me.
Love, Family and Friendships are what make the world a better place to live. Just like the hug that David Cook gave to David Archuleta so openly in front of everyone at the Ford Center, I thank you for your prayers for my friend.

He obviously has great support from younger and older fans. I think this will bring forth more support of the in between (young adult/adult) fans. If I have to, I can wait for my ballads :{ I can’t wait to hear it, it sounds like it’s going to be eclectic either way.

Time for my 2 cents! ha! Anyway, I think we should not judge or worry about what kind(s) of music will be on the album until we actually hear it. We don’t know anything about the rest of the songs that will on it and it is premature to say anything about the writers involved since they have a variety different music they have made for the different artist. If they are working with David then they know where “he” wants to go with the music not where “they” want to take it. I am confident the album will turn out exactly the way David wants it to be and whether we like all the songs or not, it is still what he wanted and that’s good enough for me.
Regarding Mr. Cook, Let’s face it, he won AI and he has a lot of fans and people who are going to buy his music I fear there are going to be a lot of David’s fans upset and frantic if Cook’s album comes out and beats David on the charts and sales. I say, WHO CARES! good for him if he does. We should not hate him because he might be successful ( even though many of his fans feel that way about David and his success). We, like David should be above that and congratulate him. I am with Scott about we should only care about David’s success and doing what we can to help him succeed. You can’t be number one every time and every day, so let those who do have hits enjoy it and respect them for it. THE END.

I was reading idolforums and they are talking about (The Plan) Jive’s is doing with Crush. Rascal wrote about it also here http://www.notingdavid.org/ , but I wanted to read what you think of it. Apparently (i’m not saying is true, but it makes sense) Jive didn’t expect the success of Crush to be so fast and now they are asking major Markets like Boston and NY to cut on spins. This mainly because they dont want the song in full rotation a month before the album is release. It seems the song its taking a live of it own with little promotion and they are worrying it will be burned out by the time the album is released….
Gengen- thats just weird now isn’t it? Crush is TOO successfull? strange! David is TOO sexy? (now that makes sense to me)

#116 rebeccarchiefan -sorry to hear about your friend. thoughts and prayers are on the way.. . i too had a similar experience last week with a very good friend (like a younger sister to me) who has a very very rare kind of cancer that she has been getting treatment for for the last year. . .thought things were going well until last week they called and said they found a few more tumors. . . so we spent quite a while in my office (i had to be strong) and I shared with her the song “Just Stand Up” and about how archie fans had donated etc. She loved it. . . printed out the words for her . . .then she left and i fell apart for awhile. so I know how you feel. . . ..
I also agree, they are like brothers, besides Cook was happy for David when CRUSH came out, we should be happy for Cook too!

5) His has all the necessary quality’s of a MEGA-STAR (you are either born with it or not)

#148, I don’t think Jive is doing that. I do think that they believe there will be better songs on the album than Crush and probably were shocked by the reception it has made. They probably have a couple other songs that they think will be bigger hits and just did not plan to push Crush that hard and to just see how it would be received on it’s own. Now they know how popular David is and are just concentrating on the album. When a song hits this hard and is so popular there is not much they need to do, it just takes on a life of it’s own. Besides, it cost money to promote and why spend money on a song that is doing great without it. Just use your resources to promote the cd and some of the other songs coming out on it. There has to be a method to their madness and we just have to speculate because we really have no clue as to what their strategy is.

Thank all of you very much. There is power in prayer I just know it. Vicky- The prognosis is uncertain at this time. She has been in the emergency room since 400pm yesterday. The hospital does not have any rooms available in intensive care so they cannot move her. Right now, she is on blood thinners and oxygen. As long as the clots dissolve then she will be all right but if one goes to her heart. Well I just will not think that way. So I sit at work perplexed by what to do, but I just knew that the Fans of David, with the love we have for him, would be caring. I did just speak to her she sounds scared, of course having a hard time breathing, but she is trying to be hopeful. Life is a precious blessing. God Bless All.

Tom, you are so right. David by being David in a sort of way is his own publicity. I’m sure that in that CD there are going to be huge hits in his career. That being said, Jive does need’s to help him like in his Web Page, (like someone mentioned before) & like any other artist in promoting him within the industry! I think the fact that he went into Disney Radio help him a lot, the younger audience that does not watch AI got a chance to hear him & that a HUGE market, if ones comes to see Hanna Montana (which I personally thinks she can’t sing), kids love her, so parents love her! He has to be in both markets!

#19 wow – I totally support correcting the Cook website misinformation. Cook’s website is recent, so the statement of highest single of 2008 did not need to be on there. So , I appreciate you giving the email address of the site manager. That should be pointed out to them. And we all know David Archuleta would not do that! So, it is up to his fans to be the outspoken voice for injustices like this. This is not a war, but a media mistake kind of like when the Jonas Brothers announced the fanatic fan award going to them. They had their info. wrong and it WAS corrected QUICKLY IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR DAVID FANS.

It was there triumph song more than it was a Cook song. Famous artists, not new idol artists, have millions of streams in the first 24 hours.
Also, FOD FANS, I THINK COMPARING THE TWO DAVID’S IS ALL RIGHT WHEN WE COMPARE THE POSITIVES. ONE VERY VERY IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS THAT DAVID IS 17, WHICH IS A MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR ANY MUSIC ARTIST TO ACHIEVE THE SUCCESS HE HAS AT THIS VERY VERY VERY YOUNG AGE. I emphasize his age. Cook is 25, he is at his peak age, and his career will be much shorter. Archuleta has 8 more years to get to the maturity where he could even be equally compared with Cook and others close to his age. Our David’s age gets forgotten by us and especially the media and music industry and radio stations many times. They compare him to others 5 to 10 years older. And knowing his young age, we should be comfortable with a conservative step or “leap” to success for him. His fan base is going to be a bit hindered this early on until he gets his “style” recognized by him and his fans. He is still experimenting and is amazingly open to so many avenues. I don’t want him to rush into a certain style yet. He is so young and needs this time to “grow” with his voice and style. So, I have decided to not compare the chart listings and polls of our David to others of his Idol competition because of the age and different styles of music they have.
I think most of us here have been “hurt” somewhat by the brutal, somewhat selfishly bully attitude we have witnessed from other Idol fans…not just Cook’s fans I should point out either. My feelings are that alot of this started from the moment SIMON made the competitive comments to David after he sang Imagine. These comments, along with David’s young “17 year old” stage talk, and the “guitar hero” mentality America has been in, made some Idol viewers leary of David Archuleta. He was too perfect, too young, too immature, too soft spoken, too moving, not gritty or rough enough for their liking. Isn’t that true in life , though? And David Archuleta has never been about being #1. He’s been about being “his” best.
I always marvel as to how he did not cry or get overly emotional during Idol and the concerts. And I was amazed as to how he did not talk about his “personal life” or “difficulties” like his paralysis and his dad being tortured by the media during Idol and the concert tour. He kept those to himself.
He has never made grand speeches at the concerts. He has never begged the audience to clap or cheer loud for him. He has never acted like he was better than anyone else in that audience. He has acted like he was right there amongst us, not begging for recognition, not concerned if he was #1, but he DID expect perfection from himself when singing to us. He spent the most time of any Idol contestant with his fans before and after the shows. He took relax time to read and sort through all the gifts he was given (ok a few tears are coming out right now)!
But these very reasons he has become very dear to us fans, are some of the reasons why other idol fans “dislike” him a bit. They don’t GET his whole being, his character. Or they don’t like it. They prefer a more worldy approach. And for those reasons, it seems, to me, they work SO hard to pump up their choice , and try to dilute David’s successes. For them, it is all about being on top. But for David, it is not about being on top. He admires John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Sara Bareilles, who are artists very unique in their music style, and who ARE NOT at the top #1 spot often on the charts. And none of them had the luxury or maybe curse of being an idol star first. David is lucky in that way. He knows his uniqueness would not have gotten the start it needed without idol, but I think he would hate to still have the Idol Tag worn around his neck or head. He desperately wants to be recognized and appreciated for his unique talent. He accepts that will take gradual moves up the billboard charts, and will NOT touch all listeners hearts and minds. He appreciates greatly our boosts, but also desires the outside-the-idol- fanbase to come to an awareness of his unique style of music artistry on their own. And that recognition will come whether he is #1 or #10 on a chart, I do believe. And most of important _He’s 17_!!! He has many more years of stepping up that ladder. Isn’t that the most exciting thing of all! To know that our David, our 17 year young David, is achieving more than any 25 year artist could dream of at this age!!! Now that is a remarkable achievement. So, let’s keep REQUESTING and boosting him and buying his music and introducing him to as many others we can. And let’s let those other fans go their way…and support their choice without it bothering our egos….cuz we know DAVID ARCHULETA AT AGE 17 HAS OUT TALENTED ANY OTHER AMERICAN IDOL IN HISTORY AND HAS HAD THE HIGHEST SINGLE IN THE HOT 100 !

I am not concerned about David’s career path at all…I think he needs to do the young, pop stuff in order to become established as an artist and then he will have the freedom to do pretty much whatever he chooses. It’s all about making a name for yourself, and let’s face it, he’s well on his way. It’s still early in the game, but I have no doubt whatsoever that he will be super-famous after his CD is released. Christmas is coming early, whoo-hoo!

Jenny and Becky, Thanks for the great article with background info included on Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil. I feel like (for me), it is perfect timing today because for whatever reason, I’ve been thinking about David and his new album/ song choices alot lately (ya, I know, me and just about every other faithful FOD). When he sent his new voice mail out last night asking for questions… I left a message that had a question along the same line…new song desires, thoughts and subjects he’d like to write and share in song with us…etc.
I am not a fan of David going heavily down the Disney path, although there are some fans in that audience that might be a decent addition to David’s fan base (Emphasis on “some”). If I remember correctly, Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway” was a big feature on Disney MVs at one point. I love Jordin’s music as well right now. Her pop music is upbeat, (I’d say trippy if that means really cool), current and has enough to technically challenge her. I have also enjoyed the lyrics and messages in her recent hits. I think all are fairly relateable while remaining “positive.” Natasha’s are similar in that sense. I think if these two writer/producers are conscious of how David’s spirit and “positivity” are adored by his fans, their choices and advice to him will be all good!
I know we often talk about artists like Sara B., Jason Mraz, John M., and I really do love their “REAL”, soulful, honest, story-telling music. I could easily see David loving to write and perform music like this in a similar fashion, but all in good time. The one thing, at this point which I have a difficult time seeing David do (and maybe I’m totally off-base, please tell me if I am)is to see him settle for any lyrics that do not really mesh with who he is. I remember the discussion of “APOLOGIZE” and how some thought it seemed sort of strange hearing him tell an audience that he wouldn’t accept an apology (it’s too late ahya ahya), or the whole discussion about Imagine (a world with no religion…). I’ve got to admit that as much as I love artists such as Sara B., and Jason M., I don’t always listen to the end of their songs feeling very good about the honest and subtle message I just heard. It’s very clever and witty writing, but at the same time, it’s a little sad and synical as well (part of the beauty I guess). For ex. Jason M’s “Live Like a Child, and A beautiful Mess,… or Sara B’s song “Gravity” which leaves me feeling a bit sad because somewhere in it, I feel like she’s allowed herself to be in a oppressive relationship). Please tell me if I’m not getting the correct messages because I really do want to understand! I admit I could be completely misunderstanding them. Anyway, songs like “Crush”, or Jordin’s “One Step At a TIme” are big on comfronting basic human emotions while sending a positive (self- awakening ) message. Selfishly, I prefer David singing this type of music more right now. Although, because I love his voice, and his beautiful spirit and I do trust the ARCHULATOR, I’ll most likely love whatever he chooses to sing!

I don’t think Jive is neglecting David in any way. I think they feel they have a plan as to how to proceed with David’s career and are doing it slowly. We are just impatient and want to see more being done but that does not mean things aren’t in the works as we speak. I believe this is how they bring along any of their new artist. We will see as the cd release date approaches the increase in exposure and promotion that David will get. I know it’s hard (I sometimes feel the same way) but we have to be patient and respect what Jive is doing for David even though we don’t see all of it right now.

All along I’ve been saying that I trust Jive… They have done an amazing job promoting Jordin and she has found success while staying true to her values and image. I liked her on AI but didn’t think she was going to make it as big in the bussiness as she has done so far. That alone make me trust Jive decisions… I do believe they are cutting back spins of Crush in bigger markets… It doesn’t make sense that stations in Boston and NY that had Crush playing in full rotation suddently cut back on their spins. There are indications that Laface (Who is part of the Jive family) is doing the same with Pink song too and that they did it with Tattoo at some point too… That’s my theory and if its true it makes sense because Jive needs the single to be in full rotation by November not now. I just hope they plan don’t backfire and people loose interest in the song…
Regarding the MySpace and official page sadly Jive is not the best at graphic design…LOL!!! I just hope they hurry and create a page for David that reflects his personality and uniqueness. I still believe that R4D designs will be perfect for David’s page… I just hope the design is not cute, but rather edgy and fun… But thats just me!!! LOL!!!
Hello, all! I have actually been on this computer for over an hour trying to catch up with all the comment from this thread and the last one. And then…I saw the new photos from this morning! I have now regained full consciousness–don’t dare look again for a few minutes or it will happen all over again!
Just want to say (jmo) that I am seeing an inordinant amount of DC discussion today, and I always get, uh, suspicious, when that happens…especially by names we have not seen before. Kinda eggin us on to do negative comments, etc. Bravo to Tom #138 for his insight. Here is my opinion: THE AMERICAN IDOL CONTEST/TOUR is OVER! The ONLY person who can benefit from a continuation of this battle is DC. David Archuleta has a wonderful (SOLO) career ahead of him. Don’t you think it drags him back and down to be saddled with “THE BATTLE of the DAVID’S” at this point? I do. I think David Archuleta is SO ready to move on, without ANY AI baggage. And I am definitely ready to see David Archuleta as an incredibly talented artist with a brilliant future, rather than “AI runner-up season 7″. Does DA benefit from continuing that designation, when he’s so much more than that. Think about it…who benefits from the runner-up description? DC, yes…AI, yes… SIMON COWELL, yes…David Archuleta, NO!
As far as I am concerned, AI is David’s PAST. Let’s look at the PRESENT; his single and his music video. And then his FUTURE; His album and his solo concert career. As I’m sitting here reading over my last post about “Mr. Perfection” all I can picture in my head is David vocalizing in the forest. He starts singing and all of the little woodland creatures gather ’round him, the birds sit on his shoulder chirping along and all of the other animals form a cirle around him!
The chapstick thing is so funny. I haven’t seen him flirting with it. I think our female minds love to flourish with flirtations. But, when I watched these videos, I took it that David really liked the chapstick, and was hesitant at the last one to put it on even though he really really wanted his dry lips to feel that smoothness on them. He seemed to be hesitant cuz he knew that these women would be filming it, but his desire to feel good overrode his shyness to be filmed. I so related to him, cuz I am a bit like him in this way. I tend to be conservative in my approaches, but also a bit childish with my desires, so there’s a battle going on most of the time..”do I do what I feel is right, or do I do what my desires want tell me to do?” Ha! Wow, Ladies yall have quite wonderful and varying opinions of David. I just spent some time listening to him sing. Crush, Imagine, In this Moment and Apologize with One Republic the music is still streaming. With every word and note that flows from David, I can tell, that as he said during Hollywood week, “I just want them to get it” Oh I do David I do! Perhaps it is my age, I don’t know, but I just cannot see him as sexy nor can I see him ever trying to be. His nature is so different, that is what attracts me to him. He has no pretense, just a humble loving nature of an older mature soul. Knowing about David’s faith, leads me to believe, that he will always choose to give his best and select songs that indeed have good messages in them. During an interview after the finale, remember the one with those dang grape skins, David was told that women now find him sexy. He not only shied away, almost going behind DC, but he said I don’t like that word, call him that, pointing to Cook. I do believe that David is very handsome and will only become more so with time. He has an ageless look, sort of like Dick Clark. He will grow older and remain good looking. So sorry I do not mean to offend anyone and I am sure that many speak about him being sultry or sexy in a most caring fashion, however, I feel it is humiliating. He is still only 17, a child in my book. Certainly, we have all said we would love David to visit FOD and blog with us. Do we really want him reading some of these things? Sorry really no offense to anyone, I guess my mood today is very contemplative. ∞♥DJA♥∞

About crush, dropping spins, we all know it has happened in some cities but nationwide spins are increasing and that’s important, but I believe there is a purpose for that.
I’ve been monitoring my atlanta radio stations spins through allaccess, and Crush is doing great increasing spins greatly in some other cities but there are dramatically drops in cities like ny, boston, there is another one that I don’t remember (over -20), but those radio stations were on top before and you don’t want to burn the song so quick, they had over 70 spins weekly for several weeks and this song is so new for most people, that hasn’t been promoted on television yet.
First David needs to finish his album, get a band ready and then go and promote heavily on tv.
We all are anxiously waiting for that day.

The reason I know it’s since we got together to request crush through states, I decided to keep track of the song and inform the group, by then NY stations was the leader, then weeks after Boston got the lead and if you see them now they are not, I never kept track of their spins but leaders have around 78 +, the leader radio station playing crush right now is in albuquerque and XM 20on20. Allaccess only gives you the top 60 radio stations playing crush, my atlanta radio station also dropped that now I have to search by the name of the station to see how crush is doing.

Hey guys! Jumping back in for a few…I have “Grammy” duties after awhile. I noticed the conversation was leaning towards the pop songs and Crush being a little more conservative. I was out running errands and heard the JB (AGAIN)…and even their song “Tonight Will Be the Night I Fall In Love”…is not what you would call risque (sp?), but the one line goes something like “hold your breath, because tonight will be the night I fall in love with you, over again”, don’t make me change my mind”..it’s just the little innuendos that make a song “edgy”, even thought this particular song is quite tame compared to some. I think Crush is sweet and describes the way a first love might feel. Whether it’s what the rest of the teen population want to hear remains to be seen.

I think our progressive Star 94.1 is the one you are talking about decreasing in numbers. Hi everybody. I’m with you, Kristin, Candy, young people today are exposed to almost nothing but garbage on the screen, course speech, they have nothing to compare it to. David is an answer to our prayers. Really demonstrates how good and rewarding wholesome behavior can be (and not just to youngsters but us oldsters too). First I want to say if anyone for any reason has been offended by anything I have said, I apologize. With that said. I don’t think anyone here would ever do anything intentionally to hurt David. I personally like the light-heartedness that I find here. Life can throw a lot of curve balls at us at any given time, and to be able to share thoughts about David no matter what they are is refreshing. I shy away from some of the other sites, I find they are so deep at times, one has to have a Masters Degree in Psycho Babble to know and understand what is being said. Here, I feel 100% comfortable and at home. Yes, we are silly at times, maybe moreso then we should be, but please know that everyone here loves and supports David with all their heart.

Oh gosh, I’m so scared to even type anything here. I’m not sure exactly what my concerns are. I just know that sometimes I’m laughing at what’s said right out loud and other times I think, “gee, did they really say that–I’m so uncomfortable, maybe I’ll go do something less steamy”. I have a grandson who is absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn’t want girls talking about all his body parts, lips, moles, thighs, behind etc. in a lusty fashion. You asked me my concerns, maybe I’m just too old and prudish. Sorry, I’m not good at this, I usually just like to lurk and skip some parts. When rebeccarchiefan gave her opinion I just wanted to second it.
Ok, about David’s video being “conservative”. I like to remember again that his video should reflect his age…17! And I’ve watched a few of the other artists @ his age and their videos and his tops them all, although I did like the Jonas Brothers recent video with the double 07 likeness, even though I’m no fan of their music. I just wanted to compare the videos. And I felt really alot better about the level of his video.
You know what I think our biggest problem with David and his music is? We see in him a very mature singer. We see a 17 year old teen singing songs that 25 year olds are starting to be able to achieve, at least in the way he sings, I mean. There has never been a singer that I can recall at this young of an age that has sung with so much depth and emotion and voice quality and quantity for that matter. Do you know what I mean here? And, so, we are on this high level as far as his singing goes. But, he, being the smart one, knew he needed to reach out to the younger audience at this time , being a teen for such a short time longer, and knowing that this younger age will follow him the longest, meaning life years here folks. So, he made his first song about a youthful, teen feeling, and his video was so phenomonally acurate as far as meeting the needs of a “crush”! Actually it was perfect! So, now we all know that he knows that his music voice is much more mature and that he yearns for that more mature style of music and with it videos. But, he knows that mainstream music America would not quite get the teenager who sings much older songs quite yet, along with the fact that he knows he’s leaving that scene all too soon also. So , he made a decision to take the younger approach for now and then progress up to the more mature level, as his new listening audience grew up with him also.
But, to be honest, I think David has a deeper understanding of a crush. An emotionally deep understanding of the feelings involved in a crush, and a part of me thinks he struggled with the innocence the video portrayed and the deep emotions he felt the video could also have portrayed. Maybe, that’s what so many of us also felt the video could also portray. Wouldn’t it be neat to have two videos. candy-I, for one, have never been offended by anything you or anyone else has said. We all love David and want what is best for him! Sometimes a little humor is a good thing and it’s all done/said in fun. I love being able to sit here in front of my computer screen and laugh my head off! There’s not enough laughing for a lot of people these days, so it’s a nice distraction! I love everyone here on FOD-I feel as though we are all good friends. 239 Karidol, why do you think Jive wants to wait until November to have Crush in full play? At that time Crush will be the last song we are talking about. There will be new singles from the album out plus the other songs, so I don’t think they “need” to wait to have Crush in full spin when the cd comes out. Let’s face it, some radio stations are not going to play Crush no matter how hard it is pushed and that is their right. So expecting it to play everywhere is just not going to happen as much as we would like it too. Putting a song out 2 1/2 months before the album and then waiting until the album comes out to fully promote it doesn’t make sense to me?

About the body part talk. Each of us do what we are comfortable with. I think its funny although I don’t partake. If David was just any teenager walking down the street we wouldn’t notice. First we fell in love with his music, then we fell in love the person that he is, then we noticed how beautiful he is on the outside as well. We all just express that beauty differently.

candy-I love the video too, which I talked about in an earlier post. When Kelsey and I were up in Wilkes-Barre, the video was “leaked” and we saw it on Sunday evening. We went to the concert on Monday night and were lucky enough to go to the after party (as most of you know). It was there that we got a chance to speak with Jeff. One of the first things he talked about was the video for Crush. He asked us if we liked it and we said that we loved it. It was then that he told us that David thought it might be a little too conservative. I told him absolutely not, but when Kelsey said it was perfect, she was heard (I guess because she’s David’s age). I think they were looking for a little positive feedback.

Just want to go on record and to confirm, without a doubt, that we all share a love & appreciation for David. We’ve met here all summer and have enjoyed getting to know each other and celebrate David’s brilliant talent!
Everything we do & say on this forum is done in jest. David is almost 18 years old and in the entertainment business. The humor shared here would, most likely, be acceted glady by David or his family, when you consider the negativity that an artist can be exposed to. David said it himself in a recent interview..”It’s a cruel world out there”. We are not a part of that cruel world when it comes to David Archuleta. Your post is spot on Lynn! The following are just my thoughts… no attempt to speak for anyone else…. I think we sometimes project our own lost innocence and yearning for that reconnection for who we were at 16/17 with David, as well as sometimes projecting the more “adult” emotions and yearnings we’ve come to know through life experience onto his music, his person…. does that make sense? He’s that quintessential boy-man… and therein lies our rub…

Hi everyone. Just a quick thought about the release of David Cook’s “Light On.”
I will be rooting for it to be a big hit. We all know that our David will be rooting like crazy for Cook’s success, and that is reason enough for me to root for Cook as well.
And we all have seen that Cook has been a tremendous supporter of Archie from the beginning, even going so far as to defend Jeff Archuleta on The View against all that ridiculous gossip when Cook had nothing to gain by doing so. The least we can do now is to hope that Cook finds success and happiness in his career, just like we want for our David. That doesn’t mean I have to buy his records (I will if I like the songs, just like with any other artist), but I will certainly be rooting for him to make it big long past AI. I hope everyone here will, too.
Besides, who really cares which one of them sells more records or streams more videos than the other? “Titanic” was the biggest selling movie of all time. Does that mean it is “better” than Schindler’s List, or The Sound of Music, or When Harry Met Sally? Uh . . . no.

393 candy, I talked a bit about it saturday but it was a dead thread. I live in slc, and everyone knows Im a Archie fan and a friend gave me some info. I made a call and got to here a song Archie wrote, he didn’t sing it (dang it) it was a demo tape done by the composer, but it was very good…. Very uptempo, but we don’t know if it will make the Cd.
I just went to pick up my sons from middle school…and they told me “mom, great news today at school. The morning announcements played Crush over the school intercom”. I live in rural Georgia! I’ve been hoping this would happen. They also told me they have walked by some lockers of girls who have David posters in their lockers! Ha! I wish I was a teeny bopper right now!!!!!!!

Just to add my 2 cents on the Archie vs Cook competition, I think the burden is huge on the Cookies to prove that Cook is a force to reckon with and is (in their eyes) the rightful winner. If he doesn’t debut as high as Archie or doesn’t sell as much copies, imagine all the talk regarding that!
All us Archies and Angels had to do was to prove that Archie can be a hit. We have proven that and noone can take that away from him/ us. Did he have to debut at #2, stay #1 on Itunes for a week, etc. NO! Those are all icing on the cake. He’s a hit! No denying that! Now, Cook has to prove he is the American Idol winner. That’s a lot to prove.
If Cook does better in #s, it’s expected. If he doesn’t, what furor that will cause.

As the mother of a 17 year old son, sometimes I do feel like I am being a little “cougar-ish” when I post comments about David’s physical attributes or his sex appeal. It’s easy to get caught up in the hen-house banter and just have a good laugh. But, I don’t think any of us mean any disrespect and I would hope that if David were ever to lurk here, he wouldn’t be offended. I don’t think any of us would deny that first and foremost we are fans of David’s artistry and his persona and that we are here to support him and his career. It’s just an added bonus that those gifts are wrapped up in such a delightful package. I am a golden Archie and old enough to be his mother (and then some), but as others have stated, there’s an eternal 17 year old living in this aging body and I still appreciate a good-looking young man! But I would never deliberately do anything to offend him or make him uncomfortable. I’m sure he would be a little embarassed if he were to read some of these comments on this site, but at the same time, I hope he would realize that at least for us older fans, we are just having some fun pretending to be young again! It’s all fantasy, but hey, it keeps our heart pumping, so it’s all good.

What I’m saying is that Jive is cutting spins on those bigger markets. The trend with Crush right now is that the spins gathering is mainly from local radio stations that are adding the song because those bigger stations did it in the first place. Thats great because the song will gather recogintion without it being to heavily played… There is a big difference when a radio station that is heard nationwide play the song 20 times a day than when 50 different local stations play the song 10 times a day… At the end the song will be everywhere (with a higher spin number) but not overplayed… I believe Jive’s strategy (and this is my own theory thinking as a marketing specialist) is to let Crush gain popularity by its own on those local to medium markets and then closer to the date of release of the album let the song be heavily promoted on the bigger markets like Boston, NY and LA like they usually do with Usher or Chris Brown. Believe me it will not be in Jive’s interest right now to promote another single by the time the album is released because that means they need to invest money in another video and promotion. David hasn’t even do any promotion of the song yet so they have to be careful that when the album finally gets out the song is not fresh anymore in the mind of the consumers who will decide by that promotion to buy or not his album… Sorry for the rambling here!!! LOL!!!

I just saw the photo above of David in red. It’s the photo that appears in Amazon for his CD pre-order. Could this possibly be his album cover? I know the shirt is from the Crush video. Looks professionally done so the speculation can begin.
Hey, go to David’s myspace and leave a comment. I always try to make a comment thinking that Jive/Zomba may read it. so, it usually declares how wonderfully talented he is and i usually add some information about how well he is doing. This all helps remind the right people how lucky they are to have David!!!!!!!

Reading through comments for a second at work again. Not sure if I even want to give my opinion, since I don’t post as much as others, and I mostly just read, but here it goes. This is the only site that I ever post on. I will check out Rascal’s site from time to time, but this site is way more laid back and inviting. I truly enjoy reading the regular poster’s here, and have never felt like they were being disrespectfull to David at all. Sometimes we need to let loose and have fun, and in the real world that is not always possible. Here at FOD you find people with at least one thing in common, the love and appreciation of a young man who has entered our lives and help us see things in a different perspective at times. Yes he has an amazing talent, and yes he is a beautifull person inside and out. I have never felt comments made here were out of line, I enjoy listening to some of the commical expressions! I feel they are all done in fun and do not take them seriously. Candy, you crack me up!!! Mary Lee you are so sweet and always welcome new ones and lurkers alike. Well that about sums it up for me. Thanks to all my fellow ODD e-friends for making this a great site to come to.
