No Air 2.0
Two “No Air’s” in one day??? To what do we owe this honor? I had to hit the sack last night, which I’m so thankful I did. I needed rest to prepare myself for this one. Jordin’s voice was getting nice and raspy after a day of singing and speaking and no doubt laughing with friends. David’s was perfect. PER.FECT. Perfect. This is the David Archuleta timbre that I love so much. It was really smooth and powerful. He was so into the song too. Great job interacting with Jordin to make No Air believable.
I need to zip it because y’all just want to hear the music…
Soul Man
Jordin and David jam to Sam Moore’s mashup of Soul Man/Mustang Sally (one of the best songs ever in the history of the world). David’s dancin’! He keeps sneaking out of the spotlight and finally goes back to his seat. But it’s hip-shakin’, hand-clappin’ FUN! Jordin’s brother makes an appearance and does a dance with Jordin that’s so brother/sister dance, it makes me want to call my brother and have him come up for a jam session.

GRAND RAPIDS — When Dean Wiers-Windemuller opened for David Archuleta in August, he had no idea how fiercely devoted the 2008 “American Idol” runner-up’s fans were. “Some Archuleta fans, a group of women who fly around and follow him to all his shows, told me, ‘You were by far the best opener he’s had — you should always open for him,” Wiers-Windemuller said. The gig was “a blessing for me. I was having a ball.”
The singer-songwriter guitarist, who just completed a two-week, eight-city tour supporting his new self-titled CD, will be performing tonight at Founders Brewing Company. “I call my (style) Americana music; it’s a mixture of folk and jazz and blues and rock — mostly acoustic stuff,” he said. “My (songwriting motto) is, let’s not take ourselves too seriously. Still, I try to draw universal themes while writing about daily life. Even the eternal questions are worked out through daily life.”
The 28-year-old 2000 South Christian High School graduate was born and raised in Byron Center. He attended Wheaton College near Chicago, where he cut his teeth as a musician, also spending time in New York City and India playing music. According to Wiers-Windemuller’s MySpace page, “His vision is to incorporate his experience with jazz, Irish traditional, Western classical and Indian classical music within the singer/songwriter framework that he grew up with.”
The singer’s influences include Kelly Joe Phelps, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Branford Marsalis, and his wife Cicely, a social worker from Ohio. A fan of “American Idol” and Archuleta, Wiers-Windemuller was surprised to get a call saying he was being considered to open up for the teen “Idol” at his Aug. 17 Intersection show. “The other (act) being considered got vetoed by the Archuleta camp when they looked up his MySpace and saw the ‘f’ word,” he said. (The “Crush” singer is known for his wholesome image and family-friendly appeal.) “I had less than one day to prepare, but it was wonderful.”
About 450 music fans packed into The Intersection that summer night, making it Wiers-Windemuller’s biggest show to date.
“Archuleta’s a really nice, sweet kid,” he said. “We walked in the door, and he was like, ‘Oh, are you playing, too? Cool!’ He was welcoming.” The singer wants to build on the success of that show, releasing his CD, traveling 3,500 miles in support of it, and increasing his fan base with every gig. “It’s all another good step on the long, slow climb.”

oooooo weee, what a great performance david gave yesterday w/jordin, and i feel dat old feeling of electricity in the air today, lol… i really do… david’s name is everywhere – idol is comparing that kelly guy to him, or trying to – it’s just a hype attempt by a dying show to capture the teen and tween market again, the one they lost when david’s season ended, but all it does is put david’s name out there in a big way, and unfortunately for the kelly guy, raises comparisons they have share relative to their ages that i don’t think kelly wants, lol… yes, it’s gonna be a great day!

NO AIR!!! …indeed! Good Morning Angels♥ Just a drive-by to say hello and put in my two cents about yesterday’s performances…blown away once again! The DUET(s) were beyond my wildest expectations!…so worth waiting for! …and we all knew David could dance…loved it! I think he was more concerned about being watched from behind..haha! Hoping that we see these two wonderful young people together on tour sometime in the near future! I’ll be there!
DFT: Well, it always a small victory when you don’t fall asleep during the first class of the day!
I had the worst time with that my freshman year. I had an 8am algebra class (not very inspiring!) and I was working a 3rd shift job at that time. So I’d get off work at 7, head back to the dorm to change clothes then walk to class. By the time I got into the classroom and settled at my desk, I was entirely ready for a nap. That whole course is like a blur to me…but it could just be the subject matter!
Suffice it to say, I never signed up for an 8am class again. The things we learn freshman year!

David and Jordin, two of the best of the best. It was so refreshing to just hear an out of the ball park performance with no hype. Just pure plain talent and great character along with it. Love them both so much!

I just have to say once again that the duet of No Air between Jordan and David is out-of-this-world. I thought the one they did yesterday afternoon was great but last night’s duet was even better. I could listen to it forever. David’s voice was so powerful and soulful. Loved Jordan also. I am just blown away! lol

#139 Tina: If David had the metal kind of braces, I’d guess he had a “sore” spot..where the wire rubs against the inside of the cheek or digs into the gum. I had lots of those with my braces. Seems like I was at the Ortho every week. Don’t know if “fit” is a problem with invisible braces though. Don’t know what kind of material they’re made of.
But swelling is usually caused by infection. Hope he gets relief soon. Nothing worse than pain in the mouth.
Seems an infection would make sense.

Thank you For the wonderful post. You really put everything together for an awesome review of the events in Miami yesterday! I can’t say enough about the duet between David and Jordin… I thought “No Air” was a nice song before and I’ve always loved Jordin, but WOWSA! They completely redefined this song! Emotion, Angst, Passion, VOCAL ACROBATICS!!! I love it! I wish it could be re recorded with David and Jordin, or better yet, I’d love a duet of their very own!! Helllllooooo Jive! Thanks to Monica , Kelsey, Kristin, and the rest for bringing us right there to the events in Miami yesterday!
Saying some magnum prayers today that the Dr. who sees David can correctly diagnose his oral swelling problem and that he’ll soon be on the road to a fast healing. Funny, he hasn’t mentioned any pain or discomfort, although other than the “work out soreness ” and knot in his back & shoulder, I don’t know that he ever complains about discomforts.
Off to do more paperwork and cleaning~ Have a nice afternoon everyone!

Just popping in for a second…..David was at the hospital with the kids. Wonder if he is just seeing someone there. I really hope they get someone really good that can get him all healed up. It’s got to be uncomfortable to be singing with swelling (pain?) in your mouth. But he never complains….He did so awesome yesterday! He just keeps moving forward through whatever comes his way.

I love how Jordin kinda walked towards David yet respected his boundaries as well — she’s pretty shrewd — she pushed just enough to break his shell a little – but not too far — she really gets David and respects him too! They make a great team. Liked how he then walked towards her! Joanie, Yes, Freud realizes that you’re all that. He loves you to pieces. Thanks so much, I appreciate it. I’m looking forward to the physical therapy. I’ll just have to be very dilligent with my exercises. Having degerative disc disease, the exercises are very important in preventing back trouble, so I will be very good about doing my exercises. My dr wants to try everything else first before sending me to a spinal dr. I agree. Dont want surgery, I’ll work very hard to avoid it. Freud said he would do exercises with me, he’s already bought a plaid workout suit,lol. I’m so glad you’re feeling better. I hate it whenever I hear someone here at FOD or anyone in their families arent feeling well or are hurt.

The internet is filling up with a lot of buzz about Aaron Kelly. He is being described as the new David Archuleta. Ha! I found some music he has recorded (http://www.last.fm/music/Aaron+kelly/A+Legend+In+The+Works) I think they were recorded a few years ago. I won’t say he can’t sing but I will say he can’t sing like David. I think he will do well on AI and become a recording artist. His genre is Country. He has played a lot of small events and fairs locally. Interesting fact is he was born in Florida and lives in Sonestown, a small town near Williamsport Pa (about an hour from here where I live) I listened to the few tracks he recorded and then came back and watched the “No Air” from Becky. There is no comparison between Aaron Kelly and David Archuleta, never will be.

Russ, Should be interesting. I wasnt planning on watching AI unless David’s on, but we’ll see. I dont think there’s anyone who sings like David. He’s had very unique things happen that have made his voice what it is. David is very recognizable on the radio. I know the second he’s on the radio, not because I know the song or that I’m a big fan. I dont mean to slam David Cook, but I cant tell its him or nickelback or daughtry on the radio, because they all sound the same to me. maybe because I dont hear them very often. Joanie, The only comparison I see with Aaron Kelly and David is they were both born in Florida, both auditioned for AI at 16, they are appealing to the audience, and they both sing. Unfortunately for Aaron, he cannot sing at all like David. I don’t know enough about Aaron to make any comparison regarding personality, personal values, etc.
