I tried my best.
I was getting ready to purchase tickets for the Ann Arbor show, and I knew David would be singing “Fields of Gold.” I called Margret Cassidy Robinson (Eva’s sister, who was so gracious to grant a live chat interview with FOD) and asked her to come with me. She hasn’t met David yet, and finally, finally, this could be the moment! Unfortunately, she had 21 houseguests for Thanksgiving and just couldn’t make it. When David visited her neck of the woods in December, she was helping her husband recover from surgery. The stars just haven’t aligned yet, but I know that David wants to meet her, and the feeling is mutual.
I sent Margret a video of David singing “Fields of Gold” (I used the one from Anaheim below, because I love what he says about Eva) and her reaction will be coming later, maybe next week. Hint: she is a HUGE David fan!
In the meantime, she forwarded it to her brother Dan, and this is what he had to say:
I am familiar with David’s singing talent, as I have watched him several times on American Idol on TV up here in Iceland where I live, and have been very impressed with his wonderful singing each time I have watched him. I am also intrigued by the fact that he mentions and acknowledges my sister Eva as a major artistic influence.
I know that Eva would be flattered to know that her singing has influenced and inspired so many up and coming singers, especially David whose beautiful singing belies his age.
After viewing that clip of David singing ‘Fields of Gold’–live in Anaheim, I know that Eva is smiling down on him whenever he performs that number on stage.

Who Are The Messengers, Anyway?
We’ve been collecting quite a bit of information from Twitter about songwriters and producers David is working with in LA.
But who are The Messengers? We know they love Mario Kart, but what else do we know?
Adam “Messy” Messinger is a Canadian songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist currently based in Los Angeles, California.
Born in Toronto, Messinger started playing the piano at age five, and proceeded to develop skills for a variety of instruments, including sax, bass, guitar, and drums/percussion. After being enrolled in the Claude Watson School for the Arts program from grade 4 through to 13, he attended the music program at York University in Toronto, where he was awarded the Oscar Peterson Scholarship for Jazz studies two years consecutively. He received Juno Award nominations in 2001 and 2006 for his work with a cappella group Cadence. He also co-wrote the winning RnB song in the 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Competition.
In recent years, his partnership with fellow Canadian singer-songwriter Nasri (now known as “The Messengers”) has functioned as a writing and production team for such artists as Chris Brown, Michael Bolton, JoJo, Vanessa Hudgens, No Angels, Marina Chello, Brandy, and the New Kids On The Block. He has also done work with Grammy award winning songwriters, such as Dianne Warren, Babyface, Dan Hill, Jorgen Elofsson, and Andreas Carlsson.

So what kind of music could we expect from The Messengers in their collaboration with David? I would venture to guess radio-friendly, fun, hooky pop music. Perhaps not the organic soulful material many of us are longing for, but who knows? The Michal Bolten credit kind of throws me.

Toby Keith, Julianne Hough Offer Help to Haiti
Toby Keith and Julianne Hough are the latest in a long list of country stars who are digging into their wallets to help the residents of Haiti after a January 12 earthquake ravaged their country. Toby is partnering with Project Haiti — a collaborative effort effort between Can-Do and Livin’ the Music — to ship relief supplies to the Haitians. The generous singer has donated seven tractor-trailers that will sit at a designated spot in Nashville, Tenn. until Feb. 2, when the supplies will be delivered directly to the Haitian capital of Port-Au-Prince.
Meanwhile, Julianne has generously contributed to Plane to Haiti, a committed effort to send more than three tons of medical supplies, plus doctors and nurses, to the Haitian people. Other artists joining Julianne in supporting the cause include David Archuleta, Scott Stapp, New Kids on the Block, Godsmack and many others.
Several other country artists have donated their time and talents to help the people of Haiti. Taylor Swift and Keith Urban both participated in the Hope for Haiti celebrity telethon last week, led by movie star George Clooney. Lady Antebellum lead signer Charles Kelley made a financial donation. Martina McBride and Tim McGraw partnered with the American Red Cross to raise money. And Big Kenny traveled with a team of doctors to offer assistance firsthand, and experience he describes as “heart-sinking.”

David Archuleta Fans Raise Funds for Hope For Haiti Now In Virtual Cupcake Drive

It all started with a simple tweet from MTV reporter Jim Cantiello while he was at Friday night’s Hope for Haiti Now telethon. The message read, “The show’s over but the work still continues. Clipping press i/vs all nite long. OMG @DavidArchie sang backstage for our producers. Dawwwww!” Within minutes, word spread through David Archuleta fandom. The price for sharing the video of the performance was set, and it was a storm of virtual cupcakes. Not only that, serious money began to be raised for the efforts to aid victims of Haiti’s earthquakes. By today the total was in excess of $4,500.
The song that created the stir is “Prayer of the Children” by composer Kurt Bestor. He wrote the song in memory of the children who were victims of the wars in the former Yugoslavia. Candy…I agree with you. The fanbase has been amazing in its generosity. That’s why I’ve always preferred referring to the fanbase as “Arch Angels”. It’s the best description of who David’s supporters are.
I’d like to believe that when David sings “Fields of Gold” that Eva is right beside him with her hand on his shoulder, proud to consider David as her equal.

Loved David’s tweet — wish I was in Cali with him instead of keeping an eye on that crazy weather map. It’s bearing down on me and looking kind of ominous, lol. Yikes!
Ha, my dad already called and told me to park my car at his house when I get off work and he’ll take me home. He said stock up because I won’t be going anywhere tomorrow. Little weather guy says ice then possible 10 inches of snow for us. I personally think we won’t get that much but what do I know.
All I do know is — we better not lose power! As long as I can get to Youtube, I’ll be alright snowed in. Ha!!

Hi everyone. Just taking a break and checking in to see if I’m missing anything. Of course I am, all of you.
It is cold and windy here but no snow. Everyone south and east of here is supposed to get dumped on, guess GG, Kimk, and Candy already know that. GG mentioned about bread, milk and things like that disappear from the store shelves quickly when a storm is forecast. It’s true. I was a “breadman” many years ago and when there was ever a storm in the forecast the shelves were cleared of every loaf of bread.
Well, that was sort of a ramble wasn’t it?

Russ: LOL, I experienced the bread phenomenon myself last night. Nary a normal loaf of bread to be found at the store. I got 7 grain wheat bread instead…it will be a new experience for me!
Kimk: We’ll tough it out together! They’re not much for snow plows in Arkansas either. We just kinda depend on ppl with 4-wheel drive or wait for it to melt. I’m part of the waiting brigade…

I think we’re going to get to about 8- below zero tonight. Doesnt look to windy right now, so hopefully the windchill wont be to bad. I’d rather have the snow than the cold & ice. Hate the icey roads. Be careful driving everyone & stay safe. Freud just told me he bought snow shoes, just in case. He’s bummed he couldnt find plaid ones. He wants to be able to visit everyone’s keyboards, so he’s not about to let a little snow & ice stop him.
Joanie: Thanks for the finger crossing! As long as the ice doesn’t hit us too bad, we should be okay as far as keeping power. Generally don’t loose power just because of the snow. We got that CRAZY ice storm last year when my power was out for 11 days. Talk about going back in time…not a trip I’d like to make again

ABMS: Aw! Man, I’m kicking myself now about not really “getting” David until later. I don’t know what took me so long to make it to my first concert…completely missed out on the AI tour, the brief JingleJam tour and the first solo tour. I’m trying to make up for that deficiency now…I just need David to cooperate and do some more tours so that I can continue to make it up…
Joanie: Yup, 11 days w/o power. It was insane. I have wood heat so I wasn’t cold at all but I was getting pretty sick of eating PB sandwiches and spaghetti-o’s warmed over the fire, lol. Had no running water for the first 4 days until my dad was able to get a generator on the pump for the well. Living in the country sure had its perks and drawbacks…

Just dropping in to mention that when David came to LA, the storms stopped, the sky is clear, the sun is shining. David brings out the best in everything, even the weather! It’s supposed to stay clear for a week, then new storms are coming, just in time for David to most likely be leaving LA. Hmmm. Can’t wait to hear all the new songs he’s writing!

Tina – I have a leak in my roof and water was running down my living room wall, but it can’t be fixed until there’s enough time without rain. Will have to wait until after this next storm. It’s nice of David to bring sunshine so my leaky roof can dry up. I hope your weather gets better soon. We’re not used to storms here and the sewers overflow, trees fall on cars, power goes out, things blow away from yards, people don’t know how to drive in it. We don’t get “winter” here so when we have strong winds, hail and heavy storms we are unprepared. Sun, ocean, and a view of snow on the mountains–So glad the weather cooperated for David’s stay.

Hey Joanie! Any luck finding Freud those plaid snowshoes???? Freud is happy, he found some plaid long underwear to help him keep warm with this up coming cold spell. He also found a plaid rug for the living room of his bachelor coop. Pictures of his pad may end up in Better Barns & Coops, along with an interview. He’s really proud of all the decorating he’s done. He’s got his own unique style, we all know that, but it’s understated & classy, as long as you dont mind all the corn on the floor,lol.

Good evening all!! Ice ice baby at my house. Been sleeting for almost 2 hours straight. Yikes. I hope it switches over to snow soon…do not want to lose power!
But if it happens, I guess I’ll be ready. Stopped by the dollar store on the way home and grabbed two bags of potato chips, a couple more cans of SpaghettiOs and a manual can opener. I’m ready to face the storm! lol

209/ hi kimk – we had a really bad ice storm back in 2003… i remember it well… the power was out all over the city, and throughout the state… our power was out for 2 days, my mom and dad and my hometown lost it for a week… and to make it even worse, i had a 1st cousin who died a day before the worst hit, and her kids had to delay her funeral because there was no power in the church down home, the ground was frozen hard as a rock, and the roads we awful… if i never have to deal w/another ice storm, it’ll be too soon….
GG Actually, I think people by a bit more beer when a storm is coming, now that I think about it,lol. When I baked in a restaurant years ago, I made cornbread & added maple syrup to the batter. It was yummo. When I was a kid, my grandma would make those jiffy cornbread muffins to go with dinner, but she would put it in a small bowl with maple syrup on it, not bad.

Gosh, I hope no ice for you guys. When we had our last blizzard around Christmas we got 11 inches of snow in the Twin Cities, but got a few hours of freezing rain in the middle of it, otherwise we would’ve had another 6 inches of snow. It was a mess, driving on snow, on top of ice, on top of snow, yukaroo!
GG, That cornbread and butter, blackberry jam, and strawberry preserves is really making me hungry.

kimk – when that storm hit, we lived in the woods. I remember being huddled together with my daughters in our bed in the middle of the night, listening to the crack of trees falling under the weight of the ice…no power…husband out of town. Not fun!!!

222/ hi beth – i love good cornbread… i used to love to eat it as it came out of the oven, when it was piping hot… my grandma could make the best i’ve ever eaten… in a big black cast iron skillet… i’ve tried for years to duplicate her recipe, but mine never comes out as good as hers… i have her old cast iron skillet that i pull out when i’m making some, but i guess i don’t have her touch

MrsMary, at least you had each other. These big storms are not fun. About 21 years ago we had big floods in the twin cities, I was working at a hardware store at the time, right before I started my job, where I work now. I was at the register for about 8 hours staight with a long line of people. We sold so many sunpumps, the local news did a story from our store when a big delivery of more sun pumps came,lol. What a mess, our family lost some things in our basement because of it. But alot of people had it alot worse.
Oh, my poor neighbors in Oklahoma…I’m hoping it has weakened a bit by the time the full storm gets to me…yikes.
GG – you are reallly making me crave cornbread! Grandmothers have special magic they put in their cooking…I think it has something to do with love.

GG I wish you had some of that cornbread to share with all of us right now,lol. I know, its hard to duplicate your grandmas recipe’s. I try, even with her hand written cook books, but I cant because the notes in there arent full recipie’s, just notes to help them remember if they forgot the recipe. Frustrating, but I’m going to try again sometime soon.
