“Cupcakes” for JambaJim to benefit Hope for Haiti Now…
Quick backstory: Jim Cantiello tweeted tonight from backstage at MTV after the Hope for Haiti Now telethon. MTV producers met up with David Archuleta, who gave an impromptu mini-concert for the camera backstage. This video will be posted on Monday to MTV.com.
Jim is such a good sport and kind fanboy to David fans for keeping us up-to-date and having fun with us, that a mini “Cupcakes for Jim” campaign began via Twitter! But TOFan from Snowangelz had a great idea. Why not send Jim a picture of a cupcake and donate the money raised to Haitian relief? PERFECT! MomJulee quickly organized how to donate and here we are.
Simply put, if you would love to donate for Haitian relief in Jim Cantiello’s and David Archuleta’s name in the form of a virtual cupcake, please donate via the CrushMS PayPal account! As most everyone IN THE ENTIRE WORLD with a radio, television, internet connection or cellular phone knows, tonight is the Hope for Haiti telethon. Please see Jenny’s post below for US television channels. I have it under good authority (coughAnniefromArchuletaFansGermanycough) that it will be broadcast on MTV Germany and CNN International, so international fans check your local listings for those channels as well.

Team Idol has joined the throngs of celebs trying to help the victims of the Haiti earthquake:
* Idol meanie Simon Cowell has a heart after all! He’s heading up the effort to put out a charity single to raise money for the people of Haiti. And Simon doesn’t fool around: According to the LA Times Idoltracker, the single should be out “within seven to 10 days.”
* Last season’s runner-up, Adam Lambert, recorded a PSA asking for Red Cross donations to help the people of Haiti in conjunction with Entertainment Tonight. (Zap2it.com)
* Idol alums will be lending their voice to the “Hope for Haiti” telethon: season 3’s Jennifer Hudson will take the stage in New York, while season 5 runner-up Katherine McPhee will appear at the LA event. Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta has tweeted that he’ll be answering phones during the telethon.
* Idol judge Randy Jackson says this year’s “Idol Gives Back” special will “definitely address” the situation in Haiti. (LA Times Idoltracker)

Leona Lewis, Rod Stewart Sign On For Simon Cowell’s Haiti Benefit Single
Group will record R.E.M.’s ‘Everybody Hurts’; Coldplay, Paul McCartney have also been approached.

Leona Lewis, Rod Stewart and Michael Bublé have all signed on for Simon Cowell’s charity single to benefit Haiti. The “American Idol” judge announced he’d be putting together a lineup for the song on Wednesday in London.
Boy band JLS, who competed on Cowell’s “The X Factor” in 2008, will also be involved, the BBC reports. They will be covering R.E.M.’s classic song “Everybody Hurts.” The Sun newspaper, which is working with Cowell on the project, reports that Cowell is trying to get Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Take That and Paul McCartney on the track as well.
“The agony and anguish for the people that we are seeing on our television screens is something that British people want to respond to,” said Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who reportedly asked Cowell to organize a charity single. “Simon Cowell can make a huge amount of money to help the people of Haiti.”
The BBC also reports that a number of acts including Coldplay, Blur’s Damon Albarn, the Arctic Monkeys, the Chemical Brothers, the Kooks, the Pet Shop Boys, Klaxons and Pearl Jam are participating in an eBay auction that was set up by Glastonbury Festival organizer Emily Eavis. Albarn recorded a song for the auction and Coldplay’s Chris Martin signed a Viva La Vida tour jacket.
The auction, which started Friday (January 22), will run for 10 days. “I visited Haiti with Oxfam a few years ago. It’s a country of extreme poverty and brutal living conditions. Most people in Port-au-Prince live in tin shacks,” Martin said. “The earthquake that has struck Haiti will have turned the city into an unimaginable hell.”

Tonight, George Clooney will be the host of Help For Haiti, a charitable event that many of the networks will carry. A large number of celebs have volunteered their time to perform or man phones to take donations. A few former Idols are among the volunteers. Jennifer Hudson will perform while David Archuleta and Katharine McPhee will also be volunteering, although I do not know in what capacity.

Its amazing the stories from Haiti. I remember a few days ago, hearing about the us coast guard arriving there & people who are just drivers, mechanics & cooks on the ships are providing medical care, doing things they’ve never done before. Amazing what people can do when people are in need.

“Enough of this moping man, let’s rebuild Haiti, let’s show ‘em how we do it where we come from!” Jean shouted after singing “Rivers of Babylon.” He segued into the joyful tune “Yele” with an island beat, as musicians danced, singing the refrain: “Earthquake, we see the earth shake, but the soul of the Haitian people will never break!”
It was a contrast from the opening of the telecast: no words, simply photos of Haiti’s citizens as a backdrop, as Alicia Keys called for the help of angels in somber tune. “Can you send me an angel to guide me?” Keys sang from her song “Prelude to a Kiss.” There was no audience or applause, allowing the moment to sink in for the millions expected to watch.
“The Haitian people need our help,” said George Clooney, who helped organize the two-hour telecast. “They need to know that they are not alone. They need to know that we still care.” Then, after an impassioned plea from Halle Berry, Bruce Springsteen dedicated a song for Haiti: “We Shall Overcome.”
The entertainment world has responded to the Jan. 12 earthquake with an outpouring of charity, from million-dollar donations to songs designed to raise money for relief. On Friday night, those efforts became collective as the biggest celebrities from music, film, sports and politics joined for the telethon. Stars such as Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Julia Roberts answered telephones while CNN’s Anderson Cooper reported from Haiti.
Although the celebrity phone bank appeared to be continuously busy with donation calls, it was not immediately known how much money was raised by the show. Most of the musical performances were downbeat. John Legend sang “I Feel Like a Motherless Child.” Kid Rock, Keith Urban and Sheryl Crow sang “Lean on Me.” Beyoncé, with Coldplay’s Chris Martin backing her on piano, revised her hit “Halo” with new lyrics: “Haiti we can see your halo, we pray you won’t fade away.”
Madonna provided one of the few upbeat moments with her choir-backed performance of “Like a Prayer,” while Sting’s “Driven to Tears” was also spirited.
Jay-Z, Rihanna and U2’s Bono and The Edge debuted a song, “Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour).”
The telethon was broadcast from New York, London, Los Angeles and Haiti, and was featured on all the major networks and channels. It was also streamed live on sites such as YouTube and MySpace. Haitians were able to listen on Radio One Haiti.
