Getting prepared to go to a David Archuleta concert takes months of preparation…. as all of you know!!!
There are tickets to buy, clothes to pick out, friends to gather, events to plan, notes to write, gifts to purchase, and videos watch!! Preparation is just so exciting!!!
When I found out that David was coming to Minnesota really close to my birthday, I got even more excited!!
Every year for my birthday, my son and daughter and their families have tried to plan some memorable event to share together for my birthday. My son has always told me that he remembers “occasions” but does not remember “gifts”!!! This year I thought the perfect “gift” to me for my birthday would be to take my family all to see the David Archuleta concert at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul!!! That memory, shared with my family, would be one of the greatest gifts that I could be given. Before I bought tickets, I ask my family if they would like to go!!! I got positive vibes from all, so I went ahead and bought 10 tickets!! I ask my daughter and daughter-in-law not to tell the 4 “grands” yet. In the back of my mind, I was thinking…someone is going to come down with H1N1, and this event will never happen. I, honestly, did not think about snow!!
(Silly me…My life is controlled by weather during MN. winters!!! ) I guess I thought there would be no snow big enough at that time that would prevent us from going to the concert
I was able to get a box seat close to the stage for 4!! Perfect!!! My hubby and I would sit there with the two oldest …my granddaughter and grandson who are both 5. The other 6 tickets were going to be in the first row of the balcony. I wanted a seat where no one standing up would block the view of my two little 3 year old grandsons. It was going to be such a grand occasion, full of memories for all of us!!!
All the preparations were being. My daughter and I were out shopping in Target one day, and I saw this beautiful little red tartan plaid taffeta dress that I just had to get for my granddaughter who is 5. Lo and behold, as I looked a little more, I saw outfits for boys that had the same matching plaid in shirts, with a red vest and blue cords!! Needless to say..I just had to have them!
They would be perfect Christmas outfits for my little grands first David Archuleta concert!!!
As the weeks went by, I found it very hard keeping a secret from my “grands”! After all, they had to try on their special concert outfits!!! I let the secret out…. It was met with much enthusiasm from all of them, and we played David’s “Christmas from the Heart” CD so that they could start getting use to the music that they would be hearing at his concert!! They loved “Pat a Pan” and were learning the words.
The countdown was on…with excitment growing greater with each passing day. As the weather forcasts started coming out last weekend, I got a little alarmed, but just knew that the weathermen got it wrong as much as they got it right!! I went along just believing it would not happen like they were saying….that is until Monday!! It started sounding more foreboding with each new forcast. I started getting pretty pessimistic about the concert happening, but still holding out hope that “the show would go on!” My hubby kept saying…we will get there somehow..but I was worried about taking the “grands” out in the predicted Mother Nature fiasco!
As my hubby and I shared morning coffee yesterday, the conversation centered around the concert!! I listened to the forcasts and got really worried for David…his tour family…and all the fans!!! I knew that my heart would break in two if it was cancelled, but knew that I would be relieved that everyone would be safe.
The dreaded, yet comforting decision was made!!! David’s show was cancelled, and would not be re-scheduled!! My heart did a little thud…and yet the “worrywart” in this grammy was comforted. I just could not figure out how to feel. I was sorely disappointed and relieved all at the same time!!! My hubby came home from work, and he was sooo disappointed to, but relieved that everyone…including David and his Tour family..would be safe too. I called my daughter, and she expressed great disappointment . I shed my share of sad tears during the day that “Mother Nature” had “hit the bullseye”!
I pondered on how the kids would react to this news, as they were really looking forward to seeing David away from the computer!!!
When my daughter came to pick up her son, she could not get up the driveway. I bundled up and took little C. to the car!! As I got to the door, my 5 year old granddaughter P. got out of the car seat, opened the door and came out to give me a big hug!! She said “Grandma…it’s ok, we will all go to another David Archuleta concert again!!!” Then she dropped down to the ground and proceeded to make a snow angel in the driveway!!!
This morning I got a call from my 5 year old grandson P. He said “Hi Grandma…we are going to have a David Archuleta party tonight…and watch videos!!! I said “Really P? When??? He said I think tonight … at 5:00.” He said “Grandma I made a poster and wrote all of David’s songs on it!” I said ” That’s great P! Where did you get the songs?” He said “I got them from the back of his CD!” Then he said “On the other side…I wrote “I love you David Archuleta”!!!
I was clearly in tears by then. He is just learning how to write, and to see the effort that he went through to do this was out of pure admiration for David. My son got on the phone then, and said that the boys were really disappointed about the concert cancellation and cried when they told them it was cancelled.
My little grandson was making “lemonade from lemons”, and my grandaughter was making “snow angels out of the snow”! Does that remind you of anyone!! The ability of my grandchildren to make me turn my frown “upside down” is something I hope that they never loose. I would love to be able to always see life through the eyes of children!!!
David’s younger fans will always have something to teach us….as does David!

Now he’s on the road again promoting Christmas From The Heart, his heartfelt take on yuletide classics, with a nation-wide tour.

Nearly a dozen more shows occur this week with a mix of jazz, rockabilly,
pop and choral and classic rock arrangements.

I just wanted to let you all know that the “video” party turned out even more exciting than I anticipated!!
When we got to my son’s house…CFTH was playing in the background, and my grandsons met me with their concert clothes on and the now “infamous” DA poster!!! He was sooo proud. Everyone was there that was going to the concert, except my son!! Hmmm I guess he was delayed at work, or so we were told!! We waited..and finally had to start the DA party without him!! As I was watching DA on ET with the kids. I heard major screaming…ran up to see what was the matter…and saw my daughter, son, and hubby huddled around something!! As I got closer…I saw that it was my MOM!!!
As a surprise, my son had flown my mom , who lives in Utah, to see the David Archuleta concert as a surprise for my birthday!! She is almost 87, and absolutely refused all my pleadings to come out for Christmas. She did not want to fly alone, and never wants to fly in the winter!!! Can you believe on the worst storm of the season, she made the journey!!! She flew from Utah where she resides, and this will be the first Christmas that we have shared since my father died 12 years ago!!! Just wow!!! I am still in disbelief!!
She saw David in SLC last spring with me, and loved him!!! We were not able to share another concert, but will share a wonderful Christmas Blessing together…thanks to my caring son!!

I’ve been working on trying to get HQ versions of some of videos onto Youtube. For some reason, it would not take my original .mov files when I tried to upload them before so I had to convert them to lower quality to put them online.

I love that one. It made me cry when I watched it back later on. I couldn’t even watch my video of it that night after the show — it was too powerful. It really was. I was staying up all night to upload videos and I just knew that I would be a mess if I watched it. lol
But I watched it later. When I had time to really sit and appreciate it. I felt the same awe that I felt the night of the show. Actually, I might have felt it stronger. The night of the show I think I was literally in shock. I honestly couldn’t believe what I was hearing — it was exceptional. And I was taken by surprise.
So when I watched the video the first time I kind of knew what to expect but was surprised again at how REAL it felt – even just seeing it on the computer screen and hearing that beautiful voice out of my cruddy little laptop speakers.
It was amazing. It still is.
Sheesh. LOL, so anyway, that’s why I’m uploading an HQ of Ave Maria.
YEA – I really was hoping and thought that David would be on Regis and Kelly – Regis really likes David and had him on the show 2 times already and did that Christmas thing with him last year from Disneyworld. Have to make sure I can get my DVD recorder ready to keep David safe forever on my TV. Remember when he asked David if he shaves and how often and David had the best reply – NOT TODAY!!!!!!!!!

I had an AMAZING time in Kansas City. So glad that I made it to that one. Totally different from my SLC experience but just as amazing. Amazing in a totally different way! lol. Every David show I’ve been to so far has been amazing for a different reason. They each hold a very special place in my heart.

marciami: That is so me! I have all these thoughts in my head but they hit a detour on the way to my mouth. I have found, though, that if you are earnest in trying to get your thoughts and feelings across people can feel that. If you stammering because you don’t know what to say or are unprepared, it comes across unfavorably — but if you have so many feelings that you are truly at a loss for words, then I think that comes through.
I know I feel it with David. And the videos that I have showed to my non-David-fan (gasp! lol) friends and family have all been well received. They all seem to comment that he is young — which he is! — but that he seems to genuine. Which he is also.

Your story had me in tears. I try to remember that too, seeing things through the eyes of a child. I had hoped to bring my daughter to David’s concert in St. Paul. Even got her a late ticket in hopes it would work out. She’s been busy with her own Christmas program rehearsals. As it turns out, the concert never happened and who do you think was the most “grown-up” about it? She was! Now we are planning to watch David’s Billboard Live concert on December 17th together! My husband is even going to set up our new widescreen tv (it’s our family Xmas present) and hook it up to internet so we can see David on the big screen! That will be our concert.

Pam,Candy, and Lessha: I really think it is just the videos. In KC, we heard David loud and clear!! I cannot remember a time when the band overpowered him. However, Benton Paul was a different story. During his set, I did not hear him or one word he sang throughout. I may have just been a victim of “Archu-anticipation”…..or perhaps b/c I was like 4 feet away and in the FRONT ROW!!!!

DAVID: Oh yeah (laughs). I was surprised because the Jonas Brothers have more fanatic fans than I do. I don’t know. I don’t have as many fans as the Jonas Brothers, but the fans I have are really dedicated. I really appreciate it. They are the ones who allow me to do this. They are the ones who support me and come to the shows and enjoy the music. You just have to love and appreciate what they do. Sometimes it can get a little crazy, but all in all they are really great. And they try to be really respectful to me. I think that is really cool of them to do. They don’t hound and attack me. They just say “Hi!”

#434 Joanie…still cooking. Had a can of pineapple slices I’ve had for ages so used the pineapple for the kebabs with meatballs and green peppers and then the juice I added some sugar and reduced it for sweet/sour sauce. Coconut rice is still cooking.

Candy…Thanks. I learned from my Dad who is a retired chef. My mom cooks Filipino food and is a wonderful baker. I watch Food Network/ Travel channel a lot. Others, just experimenting.

RJ, I am going to get some coconut milk and try that! Sounds SO good….but I like the way jasmine rice is stickir than regular long grain. Of course, I do use it in a lot of dishes, but it has that slightly sweet and nutty flavor that would taste yummy with coconut milk. Mmmmmm. Oh, nice that you got some toys for tots! I try to do that every year….Ihave a few toys to give already…need some more. Thanks for reminding me. WHAT? You’ve been holding out on us RJ! I didn’t know your dad was a chef!! No wonder you are such a good cook!
#449 Candy…One thing I can’t successfully make is Angel Food Cake. I’m not the “folding” kinda guy. My mom used to laugh at my angel food cakes as they’re not fluffy. So, I gave up on that one.

Joanie…I don’t have the patience for folding egg whites. I’m a stirrer not a folder. HAHA I didn’t make THAT flan in the picture but I know how to make them. My friends always ask me to make it for parties. And my dad always puts it in his menu when he was catering during retirement. (He doesn’t cater anymore.) Hmmm, your flan comes out flat? Some recipes use gelatin. I don’t and I’ve never had that problem. See if you can find a recipe that uses eggs and egg yolks together. The egg yolks should give your flan some substance. I can’t give you my recipe. I don’t have/follow one. Sorry!

Ain’t that the truth! You’re always stirring the pot! LOL Hmmm, maybe you could try writing out your reipe next time you make your flan! Then yo could send it to me to try.
Joanie…I realized how I can help you with your “flat” creme caramel. Just make creme brulee instead. It’s the same thing/ ingredients. The only difference is that the sugar is on top. And with creme brulee, you don’t have to unmold the custard. No chance for your custard to go flat.

Hi Everyone!!! I just got a call from Mn. Joanie(Suttygal)!!! She gave me a personal cellcast of Ave Maria!!! It was just amazing and had me in tears!!!! It was the most awesome cellcast ever!!! David sounded in “tip top” form!!! Just wow!!!
