What a LOVELY article. Truly. It’s just fantastic. Lots of interviews with fans like Ivan, Larissa and Emily! They even chose a STELLAR picture that depicts who David really is (in my humble opinion).
David Archuleta enters a fan VIP meet and greet, flashes his sunbeam smile, then sits at a keyboard and sings. When someone asks for a song he’s not sure he can play, Archuleta does it a capella. His soulful tenor, perfect pitch rendition is flawless.
“I certainly don’t see myself as perfect,” he says. “I have my faults. There are plenty of them. I take longer to do things than most people. I forget things a lot. I’m clumsy. I spill my lunch. I think imperfections make us who we are. That’s what makes us unique.”

What an interesting afternoon for David Archuleta fans yesterday. A major storm/blizzard began bearing down on the central United States, prompting a cancelation of the St. Paul, MN show. Folks getting ready for the Kansas City show had to brave some rapidly deteriorating roads as well. But they made it and it sounds like the show was AMAZING!

The Cook Family reunion in Kansas City!
Andrew Cook is David Cook’s brother. He’s a funny guy with a bit of a following himself. He, along with David Cook’s mother and other family, attended the David ARCHULETA (the true and rightful winner of American Idol Season 7 
) concert last night in Kansas City. Andrew tweeted and it was kind of funny.
“Let’s get our Crush on…” That cracks me up. Check out Benton and Andrew…
About that same time, Cookie (I call him Cookie ‘cuz we’re tight like that…ok, not really) tweeted what I’d like to think is a cry in the night, a brief epistle on loneliness telling the world just how much he wishes he could be at the David Archuleta show as well:
But the Cook family member who had the MOST to say about the whole dang situation was Dublin Cook, David Cook’s dog. He’s sassy like his owner and doesn’t have much of a filter. As of this writing, at 6 a.m. ET, Dublin is STILL talking about the whole thing.
As an aside, please take some time to listen to the speech by Jim Valvano that Cook tweeted during the night. He was dying of cancer and was an incredibly strong and inspirational figure. His speech at the 1993 ESPY Awards is incredible. The man was terribly ill with cancer throughout his body, yet he was the most vital man in the room. Check out the “more info” in the video to find out more about the V Foundation, which raises money for direct grants for cancer research.

Just a gentle reminder that the David Archuleta/Benton Paul show in St. Paul, MN scheduled for tonight is canceled. Traveling conditions were/are just too treacherous to make the trip from Kansas City to St. Paul. It will not be rescheduled.
We’re so sorry for the fans in Minnesota. Hang in there…

Tour Stories!
Kirk promised me he’d give me a wrap-up after I helped him find tickets to the San Fran show. Great job, Kirk! You rock!
OK so I really liked Benton Paul. I wasn’t sure what to think as I wasn’t familiar with him or his music. He had a great relaxed demeanor with the audience, has a great voice and I really liked his style of music. Too bad he only sang about 20 or minutes or so. I was pleasantly surprised, and thought he and David were good complements of one another – maybe they’ll collaborate on some tunes!! I could hear David doing his style of cafe type rock, it could work!
OK so on to Mr. Archuleta. He seemed a little tired BUT he sounded awesome. Too bad on the debut album numbers they don’t mix the sound so that his voice is on top, but it was still fun to hear him – especially Zero Gravity and Waiting For Yesterday.
I loved The Riddle, Prayer for the Children, and Fields of Gold. Fields of Gold was an amazing showcase for his voice. And yes, he does sound amazing live and you really truly realize ”that kid has a really, really beautiful voice!”
The Christmas portion was great, although I wish we had had some live accompanient rather than recorded stuff, but oh well, it still worked. My favorite songs on the CD are Silent Night (which I think is a brilliant arrangement, and no one sings it in this manner, it’s usually kinda of lullabyish), and Ave Maria (love this song! the only other good version I’ve heard from a pop star was Streisand, but I honestly think David’s is much superior – hers is too dramatic and a little soulless, his is reverent and soulful – big difference), and of course O Holy Night. So I was thrilled to hear him sing those live. Gosh in Silent Night and Ave Maria, I was deeply moved! His voice really was showcased in these songs and they were the highpoints.
His duet with his mother was very sweet and obviously singing runs in the family.
I think what I see in David and like about him is that he really is an emerging “artist”, and not just a singer. At the end of the show (prior to him coming back out for a standing ovation with the audience chanting “DAVID DAVID DAVID”, he thanked the audience for letting him share these songs that so much to him. To me that’s the mark of an artist, who has a need to communicate through their art.
So….I will definitely go see him next time he tours, for sure!

tuesday’s are the traditional day of release for new cd’s from the labels, so there is a shifting of position that occurs, till the chart begins to settle, usually by thursday’s… he is showing great traction sales wise in holding his spot in the mid-20’s in spite of the release deluge… that speaks to strong … so from that aspect, once the chart settles, we may see more upward movement there… i think he’s also selling well in the stores, which is great going into the heart of christmas sales… gonna keep a close eye when i’m out shopping on cd supply and placement, because the biggest sales week for cd’s is upon us, and as long as there is adequate supplies that are displayed well in the stores, then hopefully everyone who wants to purchase a cd will be able to…

I am still so estatic over those sales….so, we wait for the soundscan #s today…hoping nothing changes unless it is for the better. I know one week his sales went up thousands when the soundscan #s came out if I am not mistaken…there was a big difference in the HDD nos and the soundscan #s that week.
So glad he dodged the bullet about the AMAs performance by Adam…I mean what could he have said. Good job David.

Trudy, I feel bad for Kris too…..he didn’t any of the hype or appearances the other one got and he was the winner. I think that is sad within it’s self. I heard through the grapevine that Adam lost by a huge margin, so I am wondering if he was even that popular to begin with and without all the promotion he has gotten I don’t think he would have sold what he did. I have never seen anyone get on the shows he has and perform to be a new artist….right off AI.

“I certainly don’t see myself as perfect,” he says. “I have my faults. There are plenty of them. I take longer to do things than most people. I forget things a lot. I’m clumsy. I spill my lunch. I think imperfections make us who we are. That’s what makes us unique.”
That, his fans say, is part of his charm. They admire his devotion to family. They donate to his charities – Rising Star Outreach, Lisa Lopes Foundation and Invisible Children – showcased on an umbrella Web site, angelsforacause.org. They even emulate his awkward, “Oh, my heck,” on Twitter, rather than the more common “OMG.”

Ivan Guzman, 13, an Archuleta look-alike, watches his idol carefully. He’s been taking music lessons since age 7, and after seeing Archuleta on American Idol and in person, dreams of being on Idol too.
“I like his style of music. He’s a good role model. I relate to him,” Guzman says.
Todd Pennington, 44, owner and editor of archuletafanscene.com, predicted the young singer’s success early on. Archuleta was 13 when his parents asked Pennington to inject new life into their son’s fan site. Later, Pennington invited Archuleta to perform at a Boys & Girls Club where he was social recreation director.
“I was impressed with the way he put the kids first. He wouldn’t eat until the children ate. He insisted on serving them and helped us clean up afterwards,” Pennington says.
Archuleta credits his broad and devoted fan base to factors other than his talent and charm. It’s the music and American Idol, he says.
“A lot of people watch that show, and it’s such a diverse audience. Families watch the show – all ages,” he says. “I think people give music they normally wouldn’t listen to a chance. It’s also a great example of the idea that music doesn’t have boundaries. I wouldn’t want my music to be enjoyed only by one group.”

Hi kimk and DFT! No,it is for Boston. We are known to get 2 ft snowstorms here but I think they are forecasting that for Wed. or Thursday and mine is on Saturday 12/19. Weather here changes all the time though so who knows. It was snowing this morning and we have about 4 inches but now it’s raining. First, David sang “Ave Maria” and “Pat A Pan” (in VIP) which was awesome, even though he said he had been doing interview all day so his voice was a little hoarse.

A- Ummmm, could i still listen to cds? I guess, “Come Thou Fount (Of Every Blessing)” *the weird part- nobody but me and my mom and sister knew what song he was talking about! haha it’s an amazing old hymn:)*

Interesting tidbit, although not good news for Jordin, but David has sold just about as many Christmas cd’s as Jordin’s 2nd pop cd (122,000 to 128,000)! He will no doubt wind up with at least 150,000 for this year. I expect big things form David’s next pop cd. Especially if he can have a big single again like Crush! Wow, we all knew it was a great song when we first heard it but I don’t think any of us expected it to take off like it did! 2 million downloads – 20 million video hits! Yeah, it was a hit! i’m keeping my expectations in check, as the industry is in serious trouble regarding singles and album sales, and no one is selling either like they were even a year ago – unless you’re taylor swift, hahaha… take a look at the cd and singles download charts for this year, and you’ll see what i mean… the climate david will be releasing in next year will be tough, but he still enjoys a pretty hi profile, still has a large and active fanbase, so if keep those two areas intact during the creation of the cd, up till release time, that will be a great thing….. i’d love to see another single hit and take off like ”crush”, but for sanity’s sake i’m not going to let myself go there, hahahah… my hope is that david is able to produce the best possible cd he can, with the best production values available, and for jive and his mgmt team to support and promote it to the hilt… w/o a strong push to radio, and some luck, and this large, active, rabid fanbase backing him up, his odds for success definitely increase….

question 1. There are so many holiday albums. What do you hope sets yours apart?

I wanted to be able to get that feeling of this whole time of year into the
songs, and to be able to share that with people. That was my goal with
the album. And that’s my goal with the tour, too. For the first part of the
show, the focus is on pop music and non-holiday songs. In the second part
of the show, we focus on the Christmas music. Hopefully, people leave in the
mood for the holidays. In my life, there’s no other time when I’ve been more
involved with music than the holiday season, every year.
I’ve always been really into Christmastime. I used to go caroling with my brothers
and sisters, and we used to do family shows together in retirement homes and
hospitals. I really enjoyed it.

question 2. How did you conjure the proper mood in the recording studio?
================================================
I was like, “Man, it’s summer and it’s sunny outside, and here I am inside,
thinking about these Christmas songs!” But the weather doesn’t affect the
songs. The meanings don’t change. I just thought: “What are these songs
about?” It helped me get deep into the meanings. And I tried to get those
emotions out as best as I could in my performance. Sometimes there were
Christmas lights in the studio, too.

question 3. What’s the story behind “Melodies of Christmas,”
the new song that you co-wrote?

It’s about the melodies in Christmas songs, how they bring back those
memories of being around the Christmas tree, opening presents with
your family and spending time with people you care about. Simple melodies
– like [sings] “Glo-o-o-o-o-o-ria” or [sings] “Chestnuts roasting. . .” — all
those songs, they bring back those memories and those holiday feelings.
Those melodies really have a kind of magic to them. While the lyrics are
powerful, there’s something about the melodies themselves that really
leaves an impression on people. That’s what the song is about.

question 4. Do you have any New Year’s resolutions?
===============================================
This year, I really focused on journal writing. I was like, “I need to record
what I’ve been doing, so my kids can know my story.” Next year, I want
to focus on songwriting. I want to write as much as I can. Right after the
holidays, I’m going to be working on my next album. . . . I’m hoping to
show more of myself. What I’ve been trying to do in the writing is show
more of my personality, what’s on my mind, my creative side and my
realistic side — just showing people more of who I am.
Another goal is to learn to play guitar better.

HI everyone! Don’t know if everyone is gone……I just spent the morning snow blowing and shoveling our huge circular driveway. The snow was 2 feet deep in places. It took me 1 1/2 hours. My husband is out of town, so I got to take care of the first winter storm. I just tried to get out of my driveway to run errands and we got stuck in the street just out of my driveway. It is so good that David didn’t try to go across Wisconsin. It is a mess right now. It looks like things are going to calm down for Waukegan! YES! I keep checking the weather reports! And it looks like Baltimore won’t be bad either. A little snow but not near what we got blasted with! Looks like things are going great for David! I am so happy for him! He deserves all of it!.

Second… I wanted to put my two cents in about last nights show.
Wow, wow, and wow. We had balcony seats (the balcony was not entirely full, if any one was wondering) and I have to say I’ve never experienced anything like last night in my life. I left trying to put into words, in my mind, what I had just experienced and I decided there just aren’t enough positive adjectives to describe David’s performance last night. So those who were blown away by the cellcast were right on. It was non-stop wow. His voice just resonated and filled that beautiful venue. In my mind, my jaw was dropping during each performance (mental jaw dropping…does that make sense?). I just couldn’t believe that one after the other he was just nailing them. We brought a couple of my daughter’s friends for their first David concert experience and they were very impressed. My daughter, who has seen David twice before, said this was her favorite performance she has seen (and we were a lot closer for the first two). So I have to say you don’t have to be right up front to be blown away by the Archuvoice. The whole thing was just awesome, but the ones that really stood out for me were Fields of Gold, Prayer of the Children, Riu Riu Chiu (That one just totally caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting to get so blown away by it.), What Child is This, Silent Night and O Holy Night.
I’ve been mourning all day for those who’s show tonight was cancelled and hope that you will have another opportunity to see David soon.
RJ I’m glad you’re doing well. I’m doing ok & yeah, I’m sad about the concert, but glad David & the crew are safe & sound. Oooooh, shopping, there’s a great idea. I’m good at spending money, just wish I had more of it,lol. Watching Ave Maria video from last night. WOW!

I have to say I almost had an ulcer from worrying about the weather for the KC show. I understand what the rest of you guys, who have upcoming shows, are going through. We had the potential for freezing rain there and back(2 1/2 hour drive one way), but somehow managed to escape it. The show was so worth it, but I think in the future I’m gonna stick to warmer weather shows. Unless, David decides to do a Christmas tour again…..argggg. Please let the next tour not be in the winter.

I read on Snarky’s that the CD has sold 122K copies. I’m hoping that it reaches 200K, but 150K in this year’s economy would be good. Hope you all are having a great day. By the way, only 28K and we’ll be at 150K. OK. That’s my math lesson for today.
One of the best parts of going to David’s shows is meeting other fans. Last night we got to see a bunch of Mid-West fans who we’ve met before at other shows. It’s such a neat feeling!
It felt like a family reunion. I know a lot of you have experienced that all over the country. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…David has amazing fans!!!!!

I made it back home safely! Well, almost home, lol. I’m at work. Had a few things I needed to get done before heading on home but hopefully I’ll get there in an hour or so. I’m running on exuberance from last night’s show as this point after getting only 3 hours of sleep! ha.
HeatherL: Didn’t see if anyone answered your question about clothes. I didn’t do VIP in KC so I couldn’t say about that but most of the crowd at the show itself seemed semi casual. Lots of jeans and nice shirts. Definitely the older attendees tended to skew toward wearing slacks, pant suits, dress pants, even a few in skirts or dresses. Didn’t see many in dresses last night though– probably because of the weather.
I think that it’s really what you’re most comfortable in. I wore jeans and a nice top. I felt fine. Same thing for SLC. I went dressier the first night but then a little more casual the second night. There truly will be a mix of what people are wearing. I say, do what feels right! And what will allow you to jump during ZG!
