I got to the venue at about 3:00! My mom was going to sign me in for the VIP, then come back when it was over. I was a little nervous because I wasn’t sure if I would know anyone there. We waited in line and I realized that Kalei, and other FODers were right infront of me! It was nice to see them again because I met them at the Los Angeles concert over the summer! I also started talking to a nice girl behind me. At 3:45 they started to let us inside! Just before my mom signed me in, she surprised me and told me she bought a VIP ticket and she was coming with me! I was so excited because she hasn’t seen David life yet and I think she would like him more once she did! lol.

Watching Him Leave the Stage…the Ecstasy and the Agony of Ann Arbor
When the CFTH tour was announced, my hubby was home from work, and two of my David pals called me at home and on my cellular phone to tell me that he was coming to Michigan. I had to act all cool as my ears heard this epic news so as not to scare the hubby too much. He wondered what the news was so I calmly told him that David’s tour dates were announced. Several hours passed until he finally left the house to run an errand and then I started pacing and squeeeing and calling them back to revel in the fact that I would get to see him again. There was talk of the symphony and my mind started to wonder if I could survive such an event. Rebeccafod, in a stroke of genius, joined as a subscriber to the AA symphony so she could order tickets a week before the public. When the tix went on sale, I informed the hubby, who said “he’s coming here AGAIN???” (oh, I do feel sorry for the unenlightened…) Plans were set, tix were purchased, and the countdown began. It seemed so far away. Dreams of what the night would be started to invade my sleep. Visions of David on that stage in that venue (of course I googled the venue…) began to set in motion a fantasy of the perfect concert. I felt so blessed that this was a possibility for me. As the date approached, I wondered if an undiagnosed heart condition, or some other medical issue would appear during the concert. Could I handle the symphony and David, in a perfectly designed acoustic venue? Could it really be true that I have a seat in the 3rd row? How was any of this possible? How did I get so lucky? Day after day I hoped that I could live up to the demands of this event, and the concert would live up to the fantasy in my head.
Kelly’s Bakersfield Story (con’t)
After we signed in I bought some merchandise! I got a poster, a necklace, and a shirt! Then Kristin led us into the party room! We dropped of our gifts for David on the gift table and got to snack and relax. After a little while of chatting, we went into the main concert room and sat down. David came out and waved to all of us as we cheered for him. He talked to us for a bit, then asked us what he should sing. Everyone was yelling their favorite song out to him and he didn’t know what to do. He kept looking at the band and back at us haha. He ended up singing Zero Gravity for his first song. When he started we were all sitting, then he told us to get up. It seemed like we were all waiting for him to say that, because the moment he said that, we immediately hopped out of our seats and started jumping around! I made my mom jump too, haha. After that song, he let us know that we were the smalled crowd he’s sang that to, lol. He then asked what we wanted him to sing for his second song, so everyone was yelling out songs again. Then David was like, “You don’t want a Christmas song?” So all yelled out Christmas songs and he ended up singing Chestnuts. It was beautiful! Then the three lucky raffle winners went on stage and each asked David a question. He mentioned how he rambles a lot, and my mom was like, “yeah, he does talk a lot! But that’s a good thing” And after he said that, I noticed him talking a lot! haha. We went back into the party room and lined up to take our pictures. David walked in and went straight to taking pictures! After a few pictures, David used the mic to ask if he should wear a purple or white shirt at the concert. We all let him know that he should wear the purple one. When it was our turn to take the picture, I walked up and said, “Hi! How was your Thanksgiving?” and David said, “It was good! How was yours?” And I said good! He put his arms around us and my mom said, “You cost me a lot of money, David!” (in a joking way) and David kind of laughed and my mom said, “But you’re a good influence so it’s okay.” and he said thanks. Before I left, I asked for a hug and when I was hugging him, I was like, “haha, Sorry” I don’t know why I said that. I guess because I felt weird asking him or something, lol. And he said, “Oh, it’s fine!” Then we got our goodie bags! And watched David take the rest of his pictures! While we were sitting I saw a familiar face walk in and I realized it was RAY!! I told my mom and then I yelled, “Hi Ray!” and he smiled and waved back haha. Soon David left the room and then we walked around the lobby. There were flyers of David on the poles in the lobby and I really wanted one, so I asked a guy who worked there if I would be allowed to take one and he said that he would get me a new one because the others have tape on the back! He brought me two so I gave one to the girl that I met behind me in line! At around 6:30, we went to find our seats! I was soo surprised to see that I got the first row!! There wasn’t even a gate or anything infront of the stage so we could lean against it if we wanted! My mom’s seat was in the second row. Our seats weren’t together because my mom bought the tickets separately. Benton Paul was good! David came out at 8! When he walked out, I was jumping and waving and David waved to me!! haha He was amazing as usual! Whenever we reached out to him to touch his hand, he would kind of back up. It was kind of funny, lol. But when at the end of the show, David ran accross the stage and I got to touch his hand twice! I’ve always wanted to do that! haha. And the stage was so BEAUTIFUL! When everyone was leaving the venue, I asked the person who was cleaning the stage if I could have the setlist and he untaped one of them from the stage and gave it to me! I was so happy! It’s on my wall right now lol. It was sad to see that day come to an end, but I’m so thanksful that I got to experience it! My mom has been saying stuff like, “He can sing!” and “He has a voice!” I’mlike DUH!! haha

Funny Girl’s Ann Arbor Story (con’t)
I love the CFTH CD but to hear David live is always so special, so different, so unbelieveably amazing. I watched the youtube vids from SLC to try to prepare myself for the live versions of the songs. Seeing him so reverently singing these songs was truly a gift. The voice is enough to try to take in but then seeing the emotions on his face, his eyes, his hands, it becomes too much. I sat here crying at the computer watching the SLC vids, my 10 year old asking me what’s wrong, and all I could say was “Mommy is happy….” to which he rolled his eyes and walked out of the room. I had done all I could to prepare myself, and all that was left was the waiting. I drove the archuposse to the show in a daze, in disbelief that the time had come. We were meeting up with a bunch of folks at Panera Bread before the show and that was soooo amazing. Seeing familar faces, meeting new people, all there with the same love in their hearts. This fanbase is truly amazing and I am forever grateful to know you all.
Walking into the venue was other-wordly. Hill Auditorium is so beautiful. Walking to the seats, watching the symphony warming up, chatting with pals, it all was like a dream. It seemed like forever until showtime but I didn’t want the show to start for fear of it ending. My heart was pounding as they played a song. David would be coming out next. Out of the side stage door he appeared, all smiles, and walked over to the mic stand, which was so close to me. I had stared at it before the concert, trying to grasp that he’d be standing there soon. He began to sing and the whole world seemed to pause. The brilliance of the symphony, the acoustics there, the voice, all swirled into the sweetest concoction these ears have ever heard. I found myself in a trance, staring at his face. I had a view of the front and the left side of his face, and I was so close I could see his cheeks and cheekbones vibrate on different notes. I had never seen that before. His facial expressions and eyes and passion and reverence filled the venue. He was the music. He invaded my heart, as he always does, but this was so very special, so spectacular. David’s gift of connecting to a song and sending it right into you is such a treasure. Those of us that get him know the feeling and it is why we travel to show after show, because once is not enough. Such passion is life-affirming, necessary, and addictive. His sweet chatting between songs, his smiles, the obvious love the conductor had for him, was truly a beautiful experience.
I was trying so hard to take it all in but it it just wasn’t possible. I want to do it all over again so I don’t miss anything. Intermission came and went, marking the beginning of the end.
Knowing there were only a few songs left was truly a heartbreaking moment. I began to cry. This was to be my only concert for this tour, and with no CD release date yet for next year, I have no idea when I will see him again. If he were to read this, I hope he wouldn’t think I am crazy. I’d just want him to know that he is a joy to me. That voice. Pure and simple joy. He moves me to feel the full glory of all that is good. The last two songs, Ave Maria, and O Holy Night brought the whole place to tears and standing ovations. I hope he felt our love. If only for a moment I could give him back a small fragment of what he has given me, I would be so grateful. As the last song came to a close, I felt as though I had been sucker-punched right in the gut. I was determined to watch him leave the stage, although I knew it would break my heart, as it always does. I never want him to go. It is so very sad. The moment is bittersweet. I have total joy from the show, my heart and spirit full to bursting, but at the same time I am undone and broken. I caught one last glimpse of him as the door closed behind him. Goodbye David. You are fantastic. And I love you.

Thanks for reading my gushy recap. I wrote that at 1am so the filter was gone between my fingers and my brain. That’s sometimes a good thing because I find myself holding back during the day…I just need that “logical” part of my head to fall asleep to let the real me out! lol.
Tina – did you see my post earlier today that it was like you were in my head!? We even used some of the same words. I think that David fans share some genetics or something! Thanks for sharing your too!
And thanks for your kind comments everyone else that commented. I cried and cried when I wrote it, and I think it helped a little. I still miss him though. Terribly.

I actually might have been avoiding the last thread. Since I knew my recap was posted. Because as soon as I hit send — I was like, what did I just do?! LOL. Sometimes I embarrass myself with my gushing. And I think that people will think I’m nuts or making it up. Not sure which is worse! haha

Tina- I understand exactly what you mean! When I write a review or talk about David, I always feel like people are going to think I’m crazy or something. But David just does something to us! He makes us feel what other’s can’t! He shares his heart and soul and never holds back! I remember the very first time I heard Ave Maria on the cd, I was in tears and shaking!! My whole body “felt” the song. If that makes sense! It took me a long time to recover from that. I felt like I had witnessed a glimpse of Heaven! I felt like I wasn’t even in my body. Like I was up in the clouds. And when I finally came back down, I couldn’t wait to feel it again! It’s so hard to put into words how he makes us feel! But, I think we all can agree. And I take this from an Alabama song. He’s “Close Enough to Perfect for Me!!”
Hope that didn’t sound lame. I’m not the greatest at wording things. lol

Salt Lake was really an amazing trip for me. My first time traveling by myself — I was worried that I would be lonely or not have as much fun since I had no one to share it with. Little did I know that having someone I felt comfortable sharing it with would NOT be a problem! lol.
I knew it was one thing to come online and share my feelings when I feel relatively anonymous. But to share those feelings with someone, face to face, you kind of open yourself up. That is something that I need to work on. At first, I was still really shy about talking in SLC. But by the end of the second night, I felt at ease talking about how moving it was for me to hear David sing. I was so happy that I was able to share such an amazing experience with people who felt the same way.
Joy4archie: EXACTLY! That is exactly what I feel — I try to explain that to people and I get “the look”. You know the one, lol. But I just have to start to talk about it here, and all of you understand it. It’s like finding a tiny pocket of people who speak your language in a foreign country!! You think, Finally! Someone who understands me!
Tina- Lol I know!!! No one understands outside of this fanbase! It is so soothing to be able to talk with other fans that get what I’m going through! And that feel the same way! It’s refreshing.
Tina, hmmm, no one to share it with…. Only 2,699 other like-minded people! LOL We DID have fun, did we not? I think you now know you are safe with others who appreciate David Archuleta the way you do!
Joy4archie: I watched my video of Ave Maria from SLC night 1 last night. It was my first time to watch the full video — the original video file, that is, as opposed to the reduced quality file I created for upload to Youtube. It blew me away. Completely. Two of the pics I sent in with my recap today were actually screencaps from that performance. I was so intrigued to watch David during the interlude section in the middle of the song when the choir is singing. You can actually SEE him feeling the music — his eyebrows raise in harmony with the chorus and his body keeps time with the song. Amazing.
I have yet to watch all of my full version videos. LOL, I wanna live to see Christmas!!
Evening! I haven’t been posting much of late with the holidays on final approach and all, but just wanted to say how much I’ve enjoyed all the recaps, vids and various stories going round around here. Trust me, I’m here each and every day soaking in every shred I can.

My problem is that I always feel like I don’t have anything interesting to say. So I just don’t talk. Once I’m comfortable, I prattle on about nothing for hours but if I’m uncertain then I clam up.
I was just so happy that I got to meet so many other David fans this time. The first concert David concert I went to, I didn’t speak to a single person other than my niece.
The second, I met two people but only after debating about saying hello for hours.

Yeah he knows how to slay us, that’s for sure! I absolutely love that part of the song. He just becomes a part of the song. Don’t really know how else to describe it! Gosh, all I know is right when I think he couldn’t possibly make me love him even more, he does something like that! I have never seen him perform like that on a song. And I get to see that live in 10 days?!! 
How will I survive? My eyes are going to be red and puffy by the time it’s over. Not to mention, I have vip for the first time courtesy of Maggie!! What a sweet Lady! And I am still in shock over that. But, I don’t know how I will ever survive being that close to David with him looking in my eyes! Omg I might just faint! I though I would only need tissues for the concert, but I’m thinking I might need them for the vip too!!

Hey, Tina! Phil and I are flying up to Chicago on Thursday afternoon…..yes, hubby is traveling with me this time but he didn’t want me to “waste the money” getting him a ticket to David….sigh. My mantra continues to be, “Once you go, you know!” I’ll talk him into it yet. He hasn’t even heard the Christmas CD yet…..gonna spring it on him in stealth mode this weekend…..just casually put it on when he’s least suspecting. lol
Anyway, I’m just praying for no snow. We have an almost two hour drive from my sister’s to Waukegan but she has a 4×4 so no worries. I read the story about your Dad and his shotgun…too funny! So glad you had such an awesome time in SLC!!

Another thing…the more I see of other Idols, the more I appreciate David. I think he’s the only artist I have ever seen that just sings his best and does not try to out perform or be something more ! It’s hard to explain nicely, but the feeling I get from all other Idol contestants/winners/etc. is that they are trying so hard to prove themselves, almost to the point of desperation. Not from David. Now, that over the top, going to the extreme, or trying so hard to overimpress does play well in the entertainment world at times, and sometimes we all quietly wish David would boast a little of his artistry, but, still, the comparison with him and so many others is so stark.
Ok, enough of that. But just my personal observations through two seasons of Idol and seeing alot of past Idols also perform and all the stuff they get caught up in with the glam of it all. Having 7-9 dress changes in an awards show, and trying to “entertain the audience with sexual indecencies” and talking up their accomplishments…I just see through so many of these attempts and I just wish they would just be themselves more, or at least be a bit more humble and mindful of what setting a good example and being an “Idol” really is all about. It’s alot more than just putting out top pop songs on the radio. It’s about setting a high standard of artistry as well as decency to others.
Ugh! Is it too much to ask? Most of them really make me cringe in embarrassment.

And I don’t get to communicate here often, more of just reading the posts and not commenting as much, but David is setting a new tone with “The Riddle” and “Fields of Gold” I do believe. These songs have a different vocal sound from David. And I was reminded of his weekend trip to that vocal coach in the East or midwest this past summer or fall. I can’t recall his name, but I’m sure someone here remembers. I just don’t have to go back and check the name, but this guy was famous for coaching artists as Taylor Swift and others. And he was noted for helping artists reach those high notes and not being afraid to stretch their voice in an original vocal technique. I think this may have been what David was trying to reach vocally but had not been able to do, and this coach is who I’m thinking may have got David started in experimenting in a different sound. He reaches that in The Riddle and a few notes in FOG. Yes!!

He’s not in it for that and he knows that hard work and determination will allow him to continue to share his music and that’s what he seems to be in it for. I don’t presume to know what’s in his head, just basing that on my observations. David is very unique in that regard….JMHO. Most others are in the music biz for the fame and fortune, hence the element of desperation you speak of.

We all love Pat a Pan! And Z100 is live streaming. You all know this is one way to help Pat a Pan? They are looking at what songs are getting most streaming. Well, Pat a Pan could be that song. As well as any others. But that is another way to get exposure I’m thinking. If Pat a Pan gets streamed a lot as well as the others that are sent to radio…HYAMLC, JTTW, and MOC!

Mary, my hubby is having hernia surgery right after we get back from Waukegan and he feels fairly sure that the cough he had may have contributed to the problem. His coughing was so violent.

Hey Joanie, I’m right here. I was reading the thread before commenting. I had to break the news to my cousin that she has to go to Davids concert with me next week. She took the news rather well, surprisingly,lol. We were on the phone for awhile. I cant believe it, she’s trying to go after my record for number of car accidents since 2000. A truck backed into the front of her car. she’s ok, but thats her 3rd or 4th accident in the last 2 years. I’ve had six. None of the accidents were our fault, truely. Every accident we werent even moving when someone hit my car or hers. Hmmm, maybe if we took the “hit my car please” signs off our cars it wouldnt happen anymore,lol.

From Charice (duet partner for HYAMLC): I’m super-happy because the song is No. 2 in the United States and it’s played on the radio. And I’m happy it’s even at No. 1 in China. There are some people who say I don’t deserve a duet with him. But I’m happy anyway because there’s lots of downloads for the song. I just want to congratulate David Archuleta… we talked to him just last week to congratulate him on his album Christmas from the Heart.
David is simply a joyful person to talk with. I really can’t imagine how he’d be if he’s sad. He’s such a jolly person that it is such a pleasure to have him as a friend. We haven’t totally bonded yet, but of course I’m hoping, like what he said in an interview, we’ll get to sing the song together.
Still a litle bit slow but much better….Hi Spidey I know last night Ave Maria was fantastic.

The length of the VIP varies from show to show. For the first night in SLC, we checked in at 3:30 and were busy until around 6:15 or 6:20 but things were running behind that night. They opened the theater doors to start seating at 6:30 so there definitely was not time to go eat if you wanted to catch the opening act, which started at 7pm for us. (Which I recommend — Benton Paul is really good!)
For the second night, we got an earlier start and were done with VIP a little before 6. So there was more time but still not a ton.
Hope you have a great time at the show and really enjoy VIP!!!
Tina: Thanks so much for the good info. For Anaheim, the doors open at 7; Benton Paul on at 8 and David at 9. At least now I have some idea as to the time frame. Thanks so much.The VIP is a Christmas present to myself and I plan on enjoying every minute!
