Flashback: The Post from the Very First Concert…
I was writing for a different David fansite at the time, and when the first fan stories, pictures, and videos started rolling in, we were all crazy with excitement.
In honor of that day, take a moment to read the post from the day of David’s first-ever concert:
The wait is almost over! Tonight is the opening night for the American Idol Live Tour! David and his fellow Top 10 will perform in Glendale, Arizona at 7pm, and we cannot wait to get the videos, pictures, and stories!
Here’s a short “good luck” video (maybe just my excuse to put all of my favorite David pictures in one place):
The LA Times interviewed the women of the tour, and Brooke commented on the format: “We sing three songs each, David Cook five, [David] Archuleta will sing four. I think a lot of people had the impression it was going to be a bunch of group numbers, but it’s not. We actually are going out as individual performers and doing our own set, our own music.” The girls also described the huge wave of fan mail for the boys in the competition, especially for David Archuleta. Syesha lamented that the girls would get just a few letters, and even in the Top 3, she only got six letters all week, while the Davids received box after box of letters. She also noted that the audience was always waiting for David to perform: “I tried to be as comfortable as possible with the audience because it’s those people who I’m really performing for, and sometimes it was a little hard because those little girls would be staring at me like, ‘Where’s David Archuleta at!’”
I’m finding it difficult to articulate just how excited I am to see David in concert. We’ve all heard about the phenomenon of hearing David live–how his voice just resonates . You cannot possibly hear all of the textures of his voice on TV, let alone in a compressed format like a digital download. I’ve been struggling so long to find the appropriate adjectives to describe David’s voice: rich, textured, layered, slightly husky, velvety, wistful, yearning, passionate. See what I mean? I need new words, and to get those I need to be inspired. I need to hear him live! I will have to wait until July 22 to see him in Indianapolis, but for those of you who are going tonight, please tell me…how did David sound?
UPDATE! POSSIBLE SONG SPOILERS FOR TONIGHT! These are highly speculative and not confirmed , based on a thread from the AI forums . David’s songs are reported to be: “When You Say You Love Me” (Josh Groban), “Apologize,” “Stand By Me,” and “Angels” (well, we already knew that one).

I can’t believe it’s November 24th. I’m so scared and excited at the same time. Thank goodness for my Daughter in law. She’s excited too. She’s a blessing to me. My grandson’s are wanting to go, they love David. My 16 yr old GS told me the other day that he has a ton of David’s songs on his ipod. I have 10 grandsons. Seven of them love David. I’ve took 5 of them to the last concert. They all had on shirts saying Grandma loves David…. and Me. I wish I could take them.

I met Archuleta briefly in the makeup room, and he was as adorable as you would imagine. What impressed me most, though, was that voice. When he sang a simple, elegant and powerful rendition of “Silent Night,” he made this cynical old journalist tear up a bit.

Lettie and I just got back from visiting Temple Square. So beautiful! On the walk back, we found the Family Library so spent a few minuutes in there looking up my family history. My cousin has added a lot more to our history dating back to the 1600s. Very cool!
Now we’re getty ready to meet our David. Showers and ironing blouses are the in the works.

kimk/157: That’s a picture of the Christmas tree in the lobby of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building at Temple Square. I saw them decorating it this morning!! That lobby is gorgeous — and there is the BEST view of downtown Salt Lake from the observation area on the 10th floor.
I just kind of wandered upon it as I was out exploring today. Glad that I did!!
I’m back at the hotel now. Resting up before VIP time!! I walked just under 4 miles this morning in all my exploring — saw so many awesome things! AND — as was my hope before coming here — I manged to find a Thai food restaurant for lunch and had Pad Thai for the first time ever!! We don’t have Thai food restaurants where I’m from so it was a new experience for me. I really liked it! Reminded me of jambalaya, in that everything is thrown together in one bowl.
I hope everyone’s afternoon is going well!
OH WAIT! One more thing: file it under Archurandomness — my waiter at the Thai food restaurant? His name was David. LOL, perfect!
