David Archuleta has a new holiday album, “Christmas From The Heart,” coming out on October 13th. It has been very succesful in pre-orders, and fans have tweeted and raved about it almost incessantly for a long time, even organizing a Twitter Trending Party. It is therefore easy to assume that the album is a hit waiting to happen.
Now, David Archuleta fans will have the chance to hear and see their (American) idol live in one (or more) of the concert dates he recently announced in his Christmas tour.

I can’t stop listening to CRTH!!! Thank you aol music!!! Unless a miracle happens I won’t be attending a Christmas concert. Sure glad I went to several this summer!! THE “AMERICAN IDOL” machine certainly works in transparent ways: many of its alums release albums in the last three months of the year, just in time for the holiday rush. David Archuleta now joins Clay Aiken in adding an album of Christmas tunes to the collection. Mid-October might be a little ahead of “the holiday rush,” but who’s counting?
Archuleta’s primary problem is that not only is he super-young (he’s 18), but he looks even younger. Combine that with the bland sweetness that he portrayed on “Idol,” and you’ve got a bit of a conundrum: he looks too young to do really serious love songs (despite his debut album’s single, “Crush”) but he’s too old to do kids’ music.
All that makes a holiday album make perfect sense for him: it’s ageless and timeless. Add to that his overt Christianity, and you’ve got all the ingredients for an obvious album choice.
It’s no great surprise that Archuleta sounds good on these tunes: his clear, innocent voice just resonates with old classics like “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “What Child Is This.” And if they’d kept “Christmas From the Heart” to just those traditional songs, it would’ve been a solid addition to the holiday music cannon, even though he doesn’t add a lot new to these songs.
But instead, the “Idol” machine had to add a few embellishments to the track list, which only end up disrupting the tone and flow of the album.
“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is a duet with YouTube star Charice Pempengco, that just drips with cheesy schmaltz (not to mention the fact that the duet aspect is completely unnecessary). And “Ave Maria” finds Archuleta backed by a choir; their voices are understated, but it still sounds like a heartstring-tugging ploy.
Worse yet is the album-closing “Melodies of Christmas.” There are few pains more acute than original Christmas music, and this song brings that home: it’s unashamedly cheesy (“joyful messages you may find / will send happiness for all mankind”) and is one of the few tracks on the album that just feels over-performed.
Despite these cringe-worthy moments, though, most of “Christmas From the Heart” consists of traditional tunes, sung excellently by Archuleta. Even without adding much new to these pieces, his performance sounds truly genuine and heartfelt; the real question lies in whether the world really needs yet another holiday album.

I saw a thread over on idf about radio stations and requesting/promoting xmas music,
and I know it came from here. lol
And I know *some* of you will probably think I’m being debbie down and bringing the negative..
but really I cant stress this enough. I’m pulling this post from the same idf thread instead of
trying to reword it my self because I agree with this :
“Please do not do this yet.
Request closer to holiday time. There is nothing more annoying that fans who constantly bother radio about things that can’t be played yet.
David fans can get a little over zealous with the requesting. For instance requesting that a Top 20-40 station play altnoy or crush when they haven’t been in the top 40 for a loonnng time. Keep in mind that DJs can’t just play whatever they want. And it gets annoying when fans will not stop.

ESSENTIAL “I’ll Be Home for Christmas’’
A colleague’s recent knee-jerk reaction says it better than I ever could. Vaguely aware of
what was about to play, she put on the headphones, heard the cloying female backup vocals
that open “Winter Wonderland,’’ and promptly pleaded: “Oh, God. Please don’t let Bob Dylan
start singing.’’ But then he did, in that paint-peeling croak, and she cringed and politely handed
back the headphones.
OK, that’s a harsh indictment of a decent album with good intentions, but it’s also an astute
barometer of how many people will respond to Dylan’s first Christmas recording.
Mercifully, this is not even a remotely religious record, which shouldn’t surprise fans
familiar with Dylan’s ever-evolving spirituality. Starting with the album artwork, including
a cartoon image of pinup Bettie Page in Santa attire, “Christmas in the Heart’’ is a jovial
period piece full of the old-time comforts you expect from Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion.’’
While it’s refreshing to see Dylan try a bit of whimsy, too often the album errs on the side of kitsch.
If you’ve ever groused about Dylan’s voice being shot, this is not the Christmas album for you.
His cragginess is front and center: jarring and strained on the chestnuts
(“Hark the Herald Angels Sing’’), but then surprisingly affecting on the bluesy songs
(“I’ll Be Home for Christmas’’).
A Tex-Mex melody spruces up “Must Be Santa,’’ whose tongue-twisting chorus gives
Dylan his most vigorous vocal performance in recent memory. Still, a question lingers
throughout that song and the whole album: Must it be Dylan singing this stuff?

63/ hi archieluver….. that may come in time, but not everyone is going to be inclined to see david in the same light as his fans… as long as there is something constructive to offer in the criticism, and they aren’t full out personal attacks, etc, i can deal with it… too many critics interject their personal biases about david into their critiques, which makes those kind of reviews hard to stomache… let’s hope he continues to gradually change minds as he continues making good music

New York, NY (CNS) – “American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta is set to release a Christmas holiday album complete with an accompanying tour. The 18-year-old singer will be releasing “Christmas From the Heart” album on October 13, which will be followed by a 17-city U.S. tour.

The expressnightout review is laughable in that if we already have all those songs on a Christmas album we don’t EVER need another – I always buy at least one new Holiday album a year – sometimes it’s a compilation and sometimes a specific artist or group but they certainly don’t all have unique songs and I enjoy them all for different reasons. I guess they did compliment his voice mostly but all the underhanded ai digs I’m a little tired of —–Do you think they’ll still associate him with “looks too young to sing serious love songs or bland sweetness” when he’s 30 —- and David is anything but bland. haha – that kid has so much charisma and personality that reviewer is blind.

I bought CFTH yesterday and I listened to it non stop. I’m not a Christian and I bought David’s album to support him and just for the music, his voice is so great and addictive…but he sings with so much soul that I can feel the emotions. He’s right, music has a universal message and he conveys it beautifully !
(It’s really hard for me to express what I feel in English but I tried, I promise, tomorrow i’ll buy a dictionary lol )

I’ve been listening to the songs all weekend and it’s like I’m hearing them for the very first time, even though I’ve been listening to them since I was little. I find it incredible that David can make me feel like it’s a song I’ve never heard before. “Silent Night” is absolutely beautiful and “What Child is This” is stunning! I love them all. I love listening to Riu Riu Chiu and Pat-a-Pan too! So different!

GG I understand. I listened to Ave Maria about 15 times last night & Pat a Pan, I think the same amount. I couldnt stop listening to either one. I got new earphones & it sounds so great on my computer. I’m so happy for those of you who havent heard any of it yet. I still have several songs to hear. I can hardly wait. Whats are you’re thoughts regarding what David will sing on tour. He said some of his hits & Christmas songs. Which songs do you think he’ll sing aside from the Christmas ones. Is Falling to much to hope for? I know he said he wants to sing positive songs, but to me, in a way it is. He was able to convey what the person was feeling, but it also offered hope, especially the last third of the song. It reminded me to be there not only for the people I love, but for the people I dont even know yet.
AndreaC – I got to hear every song once then we left for the weekend…. My first time alone, totally alone, will be for 1 hour on Thursday afternoon and then every night after kids go to bed when hubby leaves town for work on Saturday night. I hope I don’t damage my ears!

I sent the link of the album liner notes to my brother (he lives in The Netherlands and he went with me and two friends to David’s concert in Manchester in the UK – he just knew David’s version of Stand by me, the best cover he ever heard- and he’s now a fan) and he said that David is really mature for his age and that it’s cool that he knows he has fans of different ages and religions and that he seems to care about all of them !

Is David Archuleta real! From his voice message to his youtube to the AOL whole cd sharing. I’m in love with this young man’s voice. And the whole cd is a major masterpiece. Nothing thus far that has been leaked does any justice to the real thing! and we don’t even have that yet!!!
From the arrangements to the orchestration to David’s interpretation and vocals in every single note.. It is perfection! It is exquisite. It is a masterpiece. It is out of this world. David has every reason to be jumping through the roof.
I will cry this whole season. This season of love! What a special special person! His parents. Gah!

My Dad worked at Prudential for 30 years & produced & performed in their annual talent shows & worked on them with Dizzie Gilespies brother Joe, so that was pretty cool. I listened to the album on AOL. OMGosh. It is outstanding. David’s sweet voice. I will be at the Lyric on December 15. What a beautiful setting for him to perform. I was at the Mann Center this summer and his voice in that ampli-theater was just amazing. I can just imagine how it is going to be in this Opera House. I can’t say how thrilled I was to see he was coming to Maryland..finally. He missed us at the beginning of the year and this summer. I still managed to go to three summer concerts including Pittsburgh. I also read his liner notes. He is such a loving person. I feel honored to be a fan. There will always be critics, we GET David, and I feel bad for those who don’t.

Joanie, Last tuesday, jk. He was 6 or 7, lol. My older brother was really a huge fan of superman. So after my Dad worked really late one night & had to wake up really early. He was laying on his stomach, opened his eyes & yelped really loud. My brother drew a lifesize pic of superman on their bedsheets & when my dad woke up he was starring at Superman,lol. No, that wasnt last week either,lol. I think he was around six or so too! My brothers, pips I tell ya,ha,ha.

David Archuleta’s “Christmas from the Heart”
Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta will release his holiday album entitled Christmas from the Heart on Tuesday, October 13. The CD includes Christmas songs you have heard before and some new Christmas tunes that David recorded. On his official website, the Utah native announced today that he’ll be going on a Christmas from the Heart tour. The tour will kick-off in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 24th, and end on December 20th in Westbury, New York.

489 / Candy – I know — well I guess David had to pay his dues and prove he could sell out shows no matter what kind of venue/lounge they put him in. Northampton was no prize place…but the show was amazing! I think they realize – maybe after the summer tour too — that David has more fans than they thought and needs bigger places to play! I think these size places are perfect and not so hard on us having to wait outside for hours and hours before a show!
Seriously, I am listening to the album for the first time on AOL…in tears….now I’m going to have to get a cd for all of my sisters, co-workers, in-laws….it is like a gift too precious to pass up for your family and friends. ( I already bought one for my children and parents lol)
