Crush premieres one year ago today, August 1, 2008!
I can hardly believe it’s been a year. I’m sitting here in the wee hours of morning on August 1, 2009 wondering what David Archuleta must be thinking (or will think once he wakes to thousands upon thousands of tweets) of the year that has passed. Although it started with an audition TWO years ago and arguably well before that, the premiere and subsequent release of “Crush” marked something new, different and EXCITING in the life and career of a young man so many had already grown to love.
That morning I was in my pajamas, running back and forth to the computer, trying to keep some semblance of a normal morning, when really I just wanted to plop myself down and listen. I had only slept a few hours as it was, but the excitement and nerves (what did I have to be nervous about?) had me awake and alert. Stories of fans staying up a day and a half to listen to the premiere live filled my inbox and the comments of our posts.
I was able to make myself comfortable and listen to the entire interview and song premiere uninterrupted. Thankfully, there were no leaks whatsoever. No one had heard “Crush.” Beyond “Apologize,” we hadn’t heard David sing a really modern song, much less one that we had never heard before. As beloved as all of our American Idol mp3’s and videos were, as many remixes and remasters as we tried to find to keep them fresh, we wanted new music. We wanted to hear THAT VOICE sing a song that was HIS and no one elses.
And boy, did “Crush” deliver. It was fun, it was hooky, it was perfectly produced and it was completely relatable. I was grinning for an hour or four after hearing it for the first time. THIS song was perfect. Yesterday, one year minus one day later, my two young children and I sang it at the top of our lungs driving 80 mph on the highway, screeching “away-eeeyay-eeyay-eeyay-eeeyaayy” not one bit tired of it, despite hundreds upon hundreds of listens. It’s really that great of a pop song. You can’t become satiated by “Crush.” Just when you think you might be, you hear it live, where it’s roughed up a bit with real, live instruments and a performer who means every word and you fall in love with it again.
The funny thing to me as I recount that morning and as I watch the danged Trending Topics on Twitter in the middle of the night, is that we, David’s fans, feel such ownership of this. Our hearts raced as Elvis Duran got ready to spin the record, our spirits soared as we refreshed our iTunes feed to find “Crush” LEAPING up the charts. We had the sweaty palms as we waited for the Billboard review to open on our web browser. Right or wrong, it’s like a little bit of us had something at stake here. That must feel a bit strange to David, but hopefully he understands that his success and happiness means so much to all of us.
I think for me, a lifelong fan to be sure, nothing will top that feeling of listening to “Crush” over the internet, headphones on to hear every note and every word David had to say. I can’t wait for the next album or for the Christmas album. David will be surprising us and sharing his music with us for years to come. But there’s something special about this song and THAT moment for David. It was just too perfect. Thank you David…

Good morning FOD! Happy Crush Day! The dust has settled somewhat from my trip to Pittsburgh eariler this week. Again, Barb and Lori, I loved meeting you and it is very true about FOD members, they are some of the nicest people God put on this earth. Trinity’s smile was priceless when I showed her the picture of you guys with her gift to David. You made a little girl (and her Mom-Mom) very happy. I am still in awe of the whole Pittsburgh experience. The new song Bubbly was the icing on the cake. I am hoping to be able to go to Atantic City or maybe Hershey this month.
I was working when Crush debuted last year. I was at my computer streaming Z100 with my Boss (Friend) right there watching and listening. She is a fan too. When it became available on Itunes on Aug 12, I downloaded it, made a CD, and took it with me to the Idols Live concert here in Baltimore. David put his DA on the CD for me thanks to my daughter. She held out the CD and said to David “Sign this for my Mother” and he did. I have it framed with the rest of the memories from that day.
This memory will always put a smile on my face. I was such a fangirl that day. Here I am a grandmother, and I froze when this beautiful human being was in front of me. I was just amazed. I remember thinking OMG he is so young. Philadelphia was amazing, and Pittsburgh just blew me away. This “Crush” is never going away!!
Morning all! Loved your write-up, Becky. Can’t believe it’s been a year! I remember hearing Crush for the first time and loving it! And all the buzz about it, too! Still am craz-eh about the song!
Went to Pittsburgh and GOSH it was just fantastic! David totally felt the love which made him so happy, and we were so happy, cause he was feeling it. Everything was just kind of building, like song after song he was understanding how much we love him and kind of letting go and getting into it more and more with each song, and then when he sang Angels, mmmmm, there are just no words. I think everyone was just kind of like “stunned.” It was definitely a “What just happened?” moment. When he finished singing and said “I love you guys,” and gave us the “sign,” **sigh** it was all just very, very touching. A magical night.
Anyway, if you have the chance to go to a solo show, GO! You won’t regret it.

The kicker is the tileman put up a chipped tile *_* I don’t think he would do that in his own shower, but he just had to do that in ours. grrrr I didn’t notice it until after he left, he had grout covering it up, he probably did that on purpose. Talk about incompetence, however we will deal with it, it is just a small chip on a corner though. Considering how expensive it cost originally, I expected a job done the right way to begin with though. 2 weeks w/out the use of your own shower was enough for me lol
The bathroom ceiling is done yes, we have a few touch ups to do yet. Hopefully by monday we will be able to take a shower in our own bathroom again

We want so much for David to understand how much he is appreciated and loved by his fans and how his music touches us. It seems he got that message loud and clear in Pittsburgh. I’m so proud to be a member of this fan community! Becky, that is one awesome post up there to celebrate the anniversary date of Crush’s debut! I was one of the tweeters online last nite doing my part to get David and Crush to trend. Can’t wait to see if he tweets about it! I think the world is waiting for more music from Mr. David Archuleta, that’s for sure!
Went to the Chicago and Pittsburgh concerts with my bff’s pastel, roberta and stacie. VIP in Picksburg just blew us away, as did the atmosphere in the Byham Theater. David knew we were there for HIM, very similar to the feelings we all had in Salt Lake City last March. If you ever have the opportunity to go the VIP route, I would highly recommend it. I think one of my last tweets that night in Pittsburgh was something like “How do you top a day like today? I don’t think you can.”

after the show in the alley I got to tell him how much I loved his concert. He said “Aw thanks so much” with the

I did email z100 and Disney to see if they could play crush and give us fans a shoot out for Crush’s 1st year anniversary though. I asked z100 to email be back to let me know if they would give us a shout out and when would be an estimated time they might play it for us. It would be awesome if they did that for us, and I thanked them for recording David that day and told them we are celebrating his anniversary by listening to the 2 video’s they recorded for David and his fans that day

Hey all! It’s Saturday and I will be working.
Hopefully a short day of prospecting.
It’s been a year! Geez, what a ride David has given us. I remember having butterflies in my stomach and saying hundreds of Hail Mary’s that Crush wouldn’t suck (pardon my language) as it would be the benchmark by which David will be judged. It didn’t suck! It was an incredible freshman effort and to this day is a song I enjoy listening to. And THANKS to David for making me fall in love again with Crush in Sacramento.
Just watched the Crush video again and have to say that video was brilliant. Crush established David as a force to be reckoned with and what a force he is! May the Archu-force be with you!

Hi everyone…I am feeling a little teary today…kind of like I did when my kids had their birthdays or graduation, etc. David seems like part of the family and I am so happy to see his success. I have been following twitter, and it is amazing how many mothers forgot to teach their kids that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all….or Do unto other as you would have them do unto you. I guess some people are forgetting these wonderful messages. I am pretty amazed at what people think is appropriate to put out there on twitter. I would really be embarrassed as a mom to see my child twittering such nonsense.

Then I say “Have I turned to my parents?” (become an old fart) and quickly I realize it’s the youth these days. They’re just more “out there” than I was when I was young. You know the old saying “what goes around comes around” someday when they are looking for a job, that place of employment will do a search on that person and see what they have posted on twitter
RJ..it sure does. I think that is what draws me to him and why I think that if I had a teen growing up right now, David would be who I would want them to admire. I have a grandson who just turned 13, and we are trying to teach him that his words and actions affect all around him…family, friends, etc. He said, “Do you mean that it might embarrass my family if I used inappropriate words.” I said it would look like he wasn’t raised properly. He said, “I wouldn’t want anyone to think that.” I hope he continues to feel that way.
Well I just emailed my RS in Det. MI. asking them to give a shoutout for the ArchAngels of DA’s
