Meet the New Band Members!
FOD would like to extend a warm and fanatically crazy welcome (oh, they will find out…) to David Archuleta’s two new band members, Jerry Roe (drums) and Dave Filice (bass).
Jerry and Dave will join Mike Krompass (guitar and music director) and Kendra Lowe (keyboards) on the 2009 summer tour.

Jerry, 24, hails from a musically rich background: he is the grandson of legendary artist and musician Jerry Reed and the son of Nashville bassist Dave Roe. Jerry has played with Michelle Branch, Head Automatica, Team Illuminati, Rebecca Linda Smith, The Wreckers, The Legendary Shack Shakers, and Rae Hering, among others.

I play drums. I play drums in a band. I play drums in a few bands actually, as well as do it for a living. I also play bass for a living. I would like to be a professional yodeler. I think that’s really neat. Some days I’ll walk over to the highest point I can find in the surrounding area, and yodel all day long, or until someone strikes me in the head with an object and/or fists.
As far as projects I’m currently involved with are concerned, I play drums in a few bands. Bands I have played with are named Head Automatica, another Th’ Legendary Shack*Shakers, another Keating (who is now referred to as Paper Rival). I also work freelance around town as a drummer and bassist, and can be seen on occasion playing drums for numerous country, rock, americana, metal, and rockabilly bands/artists around Nashville, which is the town I currently reside and was born and also raised in. I like it here. I can make money doing what I love to do, and it’s very easy to be creative and original here, because nobody else is really doing it yet.

A native of Northern California, I now live in LA and work in the music industry as a bassist and producer. In my career, I have had the honor of working/performing with many great artists including Reeves Gabrels, Richie Kotzen, The Rembrandts, Phil Solem, Peter DiStefano Band (Porno For Pyros), Derek Sholl, Terri Nunn (Berlin), Michelle Shocked, Dave Wakeling (English Beat, General Public), Macy Gray,Bret Michaels (Poison), Great White, One Tribe Nation, D’Amato, Patti Rayne, Michael”Angelo”Battio. On the Film/TV side my credits for composition include: A&E, Bravo, Discovery, MTV, Cinemax, as well as a number of film soundtracks that have been played worldwide.
Currently I am honored to be the touring bassist for Richie Kotzen (www.richiekotzen.com). We just recently returned from a great tour of Europe in support of his latest release “Live from San Paulo”. And for the last five years I have been the touring bassist for multi platinum act “The Rembrandts”. I am also busy producing and writing new tracks for various artists and projects for film/TV. All in all, life in the music industry is interesting to say the least.
No two days are ever the same and along the journey I have experienced the best and worst days of my life. But mostly just great memories and a fantastic ride!

A Fond Farewell to Two Great Guys
Alex Rowe (bass) and Eli Logothetis are loved by David Archuleta’s fans.
We certainly understand that the music industry demands flexibility and requires artists to be adapatable and to pursue new opportunities, but DANG those boys could rock it out and jump. DANG!
They were so good for David up there on that stage. They were accessible to fans and full of joy and they clearly loved David.

Writing for Albums, Rehearsing With the Band, and Being Locked Outside in PJ’s
What else could that be, but David’s new blog?
Hi there! I’m going to try and keep this short and sweet! Think I can pull it off? I’m in Connecticut, and we’re here for tour rehearsals. We have 2 new band members now. We now have another David who’s playing bass, Dave haha. Our new drummer is named Jerry, and he’s about a foot taller than me. We’ll be rehearsing for a few days, and then have our first show Saturday in Del Mar, California! The first show for the Demi tour will be back in Connecticut, so it should be interesting going back and forth.
So for the last few days before I came to Connecticut for rehearsals, I was in LA recording for the Christmas album that’s coming out this year! I’m really really excited for that because I love Christmas music and Christmas times. I was also working on some material for the next pop album as well. It’s gonna be crazy working on all the stuff this Summer along with the tour, but I’m sooo excited you guys! Oh, how I love music lol. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing what will become of everything, because I’m really not sure how it’s going to end up. It’s the kind of thing that you don’t know what’s going to happen until it happens. I really want to work with more people on writing though and get that part of my brain exercised and movin’.
Today I found out that I was nominated for 3 teen choice awards! One for breakout artist, one for love song, and one for tour (with Demi Lovato.) Before I came to Connecticut, I got to spend the night (and just for the night, not even day) in Utah. I couldn’t sleep, and I mentioned the cats on twitter… But I wrote a letter to a friend and put it in the mailbox that night, or I guess morning lol, so I wouldn’t forget to send it before I had to leave to CT. Well funny thing, when I turned the door knob it was locked. You can open it inside but not on the outside. I didn’t have my phone with me, and no one was answering the door. I tried throwing small pebbles at the window but that didn’t work either. So there I was in my PJ’s outside, without shoes, and cold! I ran down the street to keep the blood going and went to a friend’s house, hoping they’d be awake or more responsive than at my place haha. Welcome to Dave and Jerry! I know they are going to fit in just great! It’s going to be a great summer tour! As you can see from their list of who’ve they’ve played for it is not unusual for band members to change , frequently!

David’s blog is sooo funny. Getting locked out in his PJs! Hmmm, in my household, the guys PJs consist of boxers! I hope David had “real” PJs! Isn’t this the second time he got locked out? Wasn’t there another time when a friend dropped him off at home after a night on the town and David had forgotten his keys? Nobody at home answered their cells either! Finally, he got ahold of the friend who picked him up and he spent the night sleeping on their floor!! Poor David, the Archuleta family will have to keep an extra key at the neighbor’s house just for David!!! Too funny!

Heeeeey! I’ve known Jessica Harp of The Wreckers for YEARS. Maybe I’ll ask her about Jerry since he toured with them and Michelle Branch (and before Jessica was with Michelle in The Wreckers, Jess was her backup singer). Wonder if Jess has any dirt.
lol. I tried to find youtubes of The Wreckers but none really show the drummer very well. I did find one of The Wreckers performing with Kelly Clarkson but Kelly isn’t Jerry so… no go.

I found some info on Zicam. Nasal sprays & swabs can cause loss of taste & smell.
June 16 (Bloomberg) — Zicam nasal sprays and swabs may cause permanent loss of smell and taste and consumers should stop using them, U.S. regulators warned today, sending shares of manufacturer Matrixx Initiatives Inc. down the most ever.
Matrixx, based in Scottsdale, Arizona, fell $10.68, or 56 percent, to $8.56 before Nasdaq Stock Market trading was halted. That’s the biggest intraday decline since its 1996 initial public offering.
The Food and Drug Administration has received more than 130 reports of people losing their sense of smell after using zinc- based Zicam nasal spray and swabs, and Matrixx has an additional 800 reports it hasn’t made available to the agency, Deborah M. Autor, director of the FDA’s Office of Compliance, said today in a conference call with reporters. The agency sent a warning letter to Matrixx telling the company to stop selling three Zicam products.
“If they wish to continue marketing the products, the next step is for them to come in and seek FDA approval,” Autor said.
The FDA warning applies to the homeopathic Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel, Gel Swabs and Kids Size swabs. Zicam, which also comes in melting tablet and liquid form, is Matrixx’s top- selling product.

Bill Barba, Matrixx’s head of investor relations, didn’t immediately return a phone call seeking comment.
The FDA first received reports of a loss of smell linked to Zicam in 1999. In 2006, Matrixx agreed to pay $12 million to settle claims by 340 plaintiffs who said they lost their sense of smell after using the product.
Today’s FDA letter says many homeopathic products can be sold without U.S. approval. Because of “a significant and growing body of evidence” that the Zicam products “may pose a serious risk to consumers,” the agency said Matrixx must get FDA approval to market its remedies

It has been pretty busy here today with so much going on I see!
Marylee, Sure thing. I just caught a littl blip on the news, so I just typed in Zicam & found that info. The internet sure can come in handy to find info, doesnt it. I get sinus headaches too with my allergies. I put a cold compress that I keep in the freezer on the front of my head to take care of the headaches & it helps alot. Just have to be careful not to freeze my head,lol.
~Beth…just re-read the article and, if I’m understanding it correctly, there’s no mention of the tablets which is what I took…refers to the nasal gel and swab products, so maybe the tablets are safe since they don’t involve the nasal passages…not sure, but sure hope so.

Hi all! David’s blog is so cute and funny. Gosh, his blogs and tweets just make my day! Does he have any idea how much we love his humor? Probably not. He’d probably say, “that’s not funny”. Yeah it is David, yeah it is.
~Beth…I don’t get sinus headaches like I used to, but when I do, they send me to straight to bed because I can’t function sometimes…makes me feel bad all over!

OH I KNOW, David needs something like the utility belt that batman & Robin wear. He could have all sorts of helpful things in it. The bat key, the bat phone, the bat water bottle, the bat ladder to get out of stalled elevators, the bat repelent spray to keep goofy ladies that go after him & try to kiss him, the bat repelent spray #2 to repel stupid reporter questions, the sky is the limit.

Thanks for the replies. Eli’s message reads like playing with David was a dream come true and he’s super sad that it’s over. I am too. Dave is probably a great drummer too and all, but I thought it was great that David had a band member who looked the same age as David. I don’t think Eli wanted to leave David’s band.

I think part of David’s appeal is the contradictions in his persona…one minute innocent, sweet and adorable, the next minute, sultry, passionate and mature (when performing DLG for example). He’s an engima. And I love mysteries.

Valerie: Concert category – David’s up against some really touch competition in all 3 categories. I could be wrong, but I think the Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift may have way more fans than David has right now.
Lady Gaga is way popular right now in the Breakout artist category. Cook is on there too, but I think we can get the votes for David in that one.
The love song category – Halo and Love Story…might be hard to beat, but it’s doable.
I think the concert category might be the hardest, but I’m an optimist so hey…why not?

kimk – David’s passion is definitely his music. I think he know how he feels as my mother is a musician — and that was/and still is a huge part of her life even at 77!! She still sings and performs and plays a couple different instruments.
Musicians love making music and sharing with anyone. I thinks it’s really awesome that David is getting into the writing part of it…he has gained a lot more confidence in that area.

Llaurie~this is my first real fan experience also. (and I am NO spring chicken…excuse me Freud) I have always loved music, studied classical piano and played different music up into my 20’s, and appreciated different bands, but this is different, I don’t bother to explain it to my husband cuz I don’t understand it. I think I just got tired listening to some of the stuff on the radio one day, and it happened to be around the time David was on AI..it was so dang refreshing. He was so good, and such a great young person, I just decided to support the kid. !!! Now I am so hooked there is no turning back.

In Reno, Shelley and I were walking in the huge lobby of the Grand Sierra, and tucked away in this little corner of a dark eating area was Alex. He was on his computer and he was alone. Shelley and I thought about going up to him, but decided out of respect to leave him alone. When I look back I am glad we didn’t disturb him, he gave a lot to David’s fans and deserved that time to himself. Thought I’d share..

189/Laurie-aww try not to feel so bad, when the first band was no longer with David all of us were depressed as we felt they were so great. Then along came the solo tour band, Mike, Alex, Eli & Kendra, we fell in love with them too! Im sure this will continue to happen as new members come and go.

marylee – me too – it would definitely bring us together ..and after the Daley duet — I think he could sing with anyone — it would definitely be a wonderful surprise.
I was going to say their mgmt teams probably wouldn’t want it.
But then I remembered the Manila concert and how Cook & David ended the show! They were not supposed to be on stage together at any point — so I don’t know if that was a gimmich by mgmt saying that or they just decided to do it anyway.

Well, I’m going to venture into reading between the lines about Eli and Alex. Just reading the new guys resumes tells us a little something about what they (Mike, Jeff and David) might be looking for right now! EXPERIENCE! These guys have it in spades, playing, touring and WRITING! I suspect and this is only supposition that Alex and maybe Eli took a look at this tour schedule and decided it was more than they wanted to do! But, I know they wouldn’t leave David high and dry until he was set up with excellent replacements. I think they will always love David and that might have played into their decisions too! Wanting to make sure he can get the most out of these next few months. They can leave with their heads held high and our love. I’m betting we see them with David again!! When David is an even bigger star!!

I will miss Alex ( that picture up top is one I took in San Antonio) and Eli so much!!! I just get the feeling that Jive was behind this. It may be that they finally believe in David and want him to more of a ” hot shot” band instead of some really cool hometown kinda guys. Alex and Eli will always feel like family.

When I read that Dave Filice has played w/ Rickie Kotzen in support of the album “Live in Sao Paulo”, the thought occurred to me that he must be into Brazilian music. All jazz musicians are inspired by Brazilian music, and even though David identifies himself as a pop artist, he must have been influenced by Jeff’s jazz and Latin music background. So, I went to Dave Filice’s My Space and sure enough, he sounds a lot like Santana. I’m originally from Brazil and jazz being my favorite kind of music, I’ve always hoped that David
would infuse some jazz/Brazilian influence into his music.
David has actually a very diverse and sophisticated taste in music. By the time he auditioned to AI, at age 16, he had already been exposed to such groups as Manhattan Transfer and Yes. How many kids enjoy listening to Les Miserables, over and over again?
