Prayer of the Children Posted!
OK, admit it. You were a little worried that reality wouldn’t live up to the hype. We read about standing o’s and tears and an emotion-filled room. OK, maybe that was me and my worrywart self. But I needn’t worry. Beauty comes from within, doesn’t it?
He knows how to build a song from the beginning, how to tell it’s story. He knows when to crescendo and bring it back down. He knows what notes to pick to give the biggest emotional impact. He knows who to use that sound that his head makes when he holds out a note perfectly set in his wheelhouse. Or maybe he doesn’t “know,” but rather “feels.” Yes, that’s it. He “feels” the song and consequently, so do we.

Sophie has put together some fantastically sweet and silly vids of David’s best moments. She’s actually created FOUR videos, meticulously pulling bits and pieces from vlogs and interviews and editing them together to make us laugh and “awwww” with David. Except her YouTube account was pulled. And three of those are gone. But here’s #4 and it’s adorable! I know Sophie is a HUGE fan and put this together with love!

Stories of ATM and ZG on the radio!
Do we dare? Do we start this snowball rolling down the hill.
I’ve heard a few stories of ATM and ZG on the radio and want to post them. A VERY few. But it begs the discussion, what do we do with these songs? Jive did not release them as singles to be played on the radio, yet they are garnering a bit of attention on their own. What’s fascinating is that A Thousand Miles is getting more attention in the blogosphere than Zero Gravity at this point. It passed ZG on the iTunes charts earlier today (haven’t checked in a bit…will update in a few). I have my own theories on this. As much love as the hardcore fanbase (HCFB…lol) has for Zero Gravity, the studio version is not a vocal showcase. It’s fun. It’s a dance hit and probably could have been on the radio and done well (might still). But ATM shows off Archie’s true gift: his soulful, silky, unique, mezmerizing, grab-you-by-the-lapels voice. I think the focus in the internet community on that song shows, in a VERY small way, what kind of stuff they want to see from him. Do we want him to dance and have fun? Holy Heck, YA! Do we want him to be silly and mischievious? Of course. Do we want him to PREACH IT and sing like we all want to sing, but can’t? Always and forever.
Interesting stuff. To me. Who, if you didn’t realize was a nerd, you absolutely know it now.

I’m not sure this had anything to do with it, but I gifted my radio station with David’s Fan Bundle the other night when it became available. So this morning as I was driving in to work, I was listening to Kiss98.5 in Buffalo, and heard Janet and Nick, the DJ’s gushing about David Archuleta, lol! Janet was saying that she loves David and his voice, it’s so smooth and silky. One of the things she loved about his performance at Kissmas Bash in December was his version of A Thousand Miles, and she was very happy to see that he recorded it and it’s now available on iTunes! WOAH! At this point I was calling Becky and Pastel and squeeing messages to them over the phone about it. Then I heard Janet say, “So here it is, David Archuleta’s A Thousand Miles” and THEY PLAYED IT ON THE RADIO!!! It sounded AWESOME, you guys!! Can you tell I was fangirling all over the place? So I called Becky again and left another squeeing message that they were playing it. After the song was over, Janet continued to gush about David, saying he is a good friend of the radio station and they are trying to get him back for this year’s Kissmas Bash. Woooooot! So then Nick said, “So they should just erase the original version of that song, and just go with this one, is that what you’re saying, Janet?” And she replied, “Yes, I love that song and I especially love the way David Archuleta sings it. So if you love A Thousand Miles go to iTunes and download it today.” Well, that made my week. OK, I’m done…..

I saw this song performed at a Kurt Bestor concert years ago, but didn’t get the chills like I did when David sang it in this vid. Also, there were so many lyrics and change ups that it seemed like a very difficult song to perform, but he nailed it. Not surprised.
And something funny happened the other day. My 9 year old daughter has been a proud fan of David Cook for the past year. The rest of us are addicted to Archie in the family, but somehow she enjoyed being the different one, I guess.
But after I downloaded ZG, she couldn’t stop singing it and kept asking me to play it. Then when she was doing a fun survey of her interests in her little diary (like favorite color or food, etc.) it asked who her favorite celebrity was and she started writing David and then she turned around and said “Mom, how do you spell Archuleta?”
Ha! Gotcha! Converted by ZG. Maybe there are other fence sitters out there who would turn to Archie after being exposed to ZG. We need radio help!!!!! Jive, pleeeeeeeeeeeease! Okay, now I sound like a whiney kid.

Good Lord! I watched the video and this was absolutely beautiful, and I’m not an Archuleta fan. He really is a standup kid. I think I read he was an ambassador for Katie Couric’s Standup2cancer this year. Anyway, good work David.

IRISHDAPHNE -I’m also from Canada and was SO upset that we can’t buy the fan pack. I didn’t want to “waste” a gifting because I can afford to buy and gift many packs for people up here. However, I’m now unable to go any longer w/o the fan pack and am wondering about the gifting option, too (I refuse to get an illegal download of David’s music -he deserves our full support). Scott – not too many would probably attempt to sing acapella ! I saw David at a couple Jingle Jams — and he was the only that even sang a Xmas song at the end of his set — and sang it perfectly acapella. Very impressive to everyone in the crowd!

Hello everyone. David’s performance of POTC was fantastic. He said he messed up but I had to watch it several times before I even noticed what I think was the spot. Nothing David ever sings is messed up and I don’t think this performance was either. To me it was perfection.

I have to agree with Becky on her thoughts about ZG and ATM on the radio. I Absolutely LOVE Zero Gravity, LOVE it! It’s a fun upbeat song , great to dance to. A great song written by David! Woot! ATM on the other hand as Becky states showcases that Voice! That incredible, unbelievable voice! I hope David does more fun songs like ZG but I also hope he sticks to his guns and doesn’t let the Record Label push him into being a Dance Grove Singer. Throw one or two on the album ,thats cool but I can only speak for myself when I say I would rather hear him do that Deeper , more meaningful music that David himself has stated he wants to do. Please Jive don’t cover up those beautiful , incredible vocals.
And as Awesome as he is on ATM ( Stunning really). I would much rather hear Original music from him. Again throw one cover on the album but no more than that and give us original music that shows off all of his immense talent , mix it up , and make everyone happy , Esp. David since he will be singing these songs . Trust David’s instincts !

Scott – oh…I thought ppl were saying that’s the song they liked “more.” It is special and does show off David’s voice…I’m just working on/hoping if any song got released it would be ZG only because I think it would be good for the radio and like you said David and Mike wrote it — and I REALLY think David loves it because he interacts/connects with the audience. It’s a fun and great song.
But of course I think Touch My Hand is the same thing – and that one never got released here — but I think that one would have done well on the radio. But who am I?

Scott – I think he definitely needs to have a mix of songs which I think he achieved with the first album… but you need have a hit on a radio station — or as I’ve seen labels will drop you. Not to say that JIVE is the only mgmt team out there — but somehow you have to please most people. But one thing I will say about David is that I think he REALLY knows / is aware of his fanbase…so he definitely has the ability to achieve the kind of music he will be proud of and also please mgmt & fans.
I’ve been to the concerts — and he knows what works…how to get the crowd going/jumping/involved and yelling and screaming…but before the mayhem occurs or a crowd would get out of control he can turn it down just enough to calm the souls of his crowd…and then turn it up at the end and leave us always wanting more. At least that my observation — the guy knows just what to sing/when to sing it/ and it does it all with his music and his person / personality.

I just do not want to see him pigeon holed into any one type of music and ultimately he needs to do music that HE is happy with. And your right He knows what is best for him, That’s why I hope the label listens to him. Yes he wants to please the fans but shouldn’t compromise what he wants to do as an artist to please them.( Not that he is or has .) If someone is a fan you will appreciate and like what he does and won’t ask/ demand he do something he really doesn’t want to do. Again I ‘m not saying that he has been forced to do anything he doesn’t want to do , but He has made it pretty clear the direction he would like to go.

Hi all! Just popping in to report that I heard a 30 second clip of ATM on WFLY-FM Albany NY today while driving home from work. It sounded just beautiful in the car!!! The DJ was absolutely gushing about how good he sang the song at the Albany jingle jam and how incredibly talented he is both at singing and playing piano. She loves the new version of ATM and encouraged people to buy it on I-tunes.

And I download mp3 stuff onto it by saving it to itunes and syncing it to my ipod. But what is mp4? Is that song with video like Touch My Hand? And do we download it same way? AS a music file into itunes or what?

Scott – doesn’t have to be a dance song — agree. Unfortunately one does not always have the choice when you have “bosses” looking over you. But I do trust David to get done what he wants — there is probably going to be comprise and that’s okay too. well, it makes for LOTS of conversation. David is new to the business so I’m sure he is learning a lot — and as in any job — once you done it for a while — you learn what works and how to accomplish what you set out to do. David is interesting because he can portray a very innocent person, but when it comes to his music or fans I see a stronger side of him.
It’s going to be interesting to see where his career goes. Will he become the megastar? or more like a Jason Mraz or John Mayer…I don’t know.
I’m in this for the long run — so FOD is a great sounding board for ideas and speculation. Thanks for sharing yours.

Interesting about ZG and ATM and the direction David’s music will take. I was pleasantly overwhelmed by David’s ATM in the fan pack. So much emotion and those notes he hits, WOW! ZG is FANTASTIC live and I think the studio version would make a great dance song on the radio. I’m not surprised there is more buzz about ATM since it displays David’s vocal ability more and it’s a song people already know. Personally, I hope David’s next album brings out more of his soulful side. Either way, I’m just glad there’s buzz on the radio for David’s songs! Much deserved.

301/Scott-I think if David was allowed to do what David wanted to do, he’d put out a killer album. Not that he didn’t already. . . but you know what I mean. David has some great ideas and he knows exactly who he is and what works for him. I also think he really knows what we all like.

314/Joy- I am sure he will always have a “homebase” in Utah but as his career grows even more then it has, he is going to end up spending more time where the writers/producers are. Richard is a prime example of just that! He is finding that while Utah is wonderful he is contemplating moving to Nashville.
