Samurai Cookoff May 27th
So next week David will be taking a break from frivolous things like touring and songwriting to serve as a Samurai Chef. Wow, check out all of the doctors. I hope they don’t talk David into changing his career path.

Archurandomness: Wish My Yearbook Would Have Looked Like This!

Today I have a really archurandom story.
Yesterday we got our year books so I was looking through it. In the back there was a section from what happend in 2008. In the back they show TV shows and they showed American Idol DAVID.vs.DAVID!!!!!!! They show a picture of him from the Today show. I screamed when I saw it. Now around the picture, there are hearts

It’s Got A Beat And I Can Dance To It
In his latest update to his E-Book, David Archuleta’s vocal coach Dean Kaelin mentioned that there is a bit of a disconnect (my word, not his) between the type of songs Jive wants David to release on his second album and the material David wants to produce:
David is already working on songs for his second album and I am anxious to hear what this album will sound like. When he recently had a week off after his solo tour, we got to write a bit and David got to experiment with some of the ideas he has in his head and some of the sounds and beats he thinks would be good. There is a bit of a discussion going on however about the direction of this album. I think David would like to do something more acoustic, with some of the beats and sounds that he has heard in some other artists and things that he really likes, but the label seems to want him to do a more “dance groove” kind of cd. David can see the good of both approaches since at a concert the fast stuff goes over very well, but he still likes other sounds as well.
Many of you have emailed asking for examples of these two sounds, and wondering if they are compatible on the same album.
Acoustic = John Mayer, Sara Bareilles. “Organic” music with unadorned instrumentation such as acoustic guitar and piano. These don’t have to be ballads, by the way.
Rhythmic dance beat = Jesse McCartney, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake. Music you can dance to with synthetic instrumentation; a re-mix style sound. Radio hits.
Can one album successfully encompass both styles? I think yes, if the music is all pulled together as a cohesive whole with a strong vocal signature.
And if the lyrics to the dance-type music are not empty and lame and inane. Yeah, the lyrics not being lame thing is important. Who out there can co-write with David a good dance track with meaningful, humble, innocent lyrics? Justin Timberlake could do it, but you’d have to keep a very close eye on him. Very close.

So Where Are They Now? Chikezie, Ramiele, and Michael Johns
David’s co-Idols became family to him during the show and the subsequent tour. He keeps in touch with most of them and supports their music careers as best as he can. So let’s find out whazzup with the Season 7 Top 10!
Today we’ll begin with Chikezie, Ramiele, and MJ!
Chikezie
Chikezie is rumored to be signed (or in the process of signing with) Universal Music Group, although he does not yet appear in their roster.
According to Chikezie’s official website:
Following his elimination from American Idol on March 26, 2008, Chikezie has made guest appearances on Live with Regis and Kelly, The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, following a 3-month American Idol Concert tour. This year, he completed a four week “American Stars in Concert” Winter tour, with Diana DeGarmo, Kimberly Locke and David Hernandez, making appearances on the “CBS Morning Show” as well as local talk shows. Chikezie’s musical influences are Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, John Legend, Sam and Dave, “anyone that makes good music really.” He continues to perform and write. When he is performing, “it’s always with the intention of lifting people’s spirits and entertaining them.” Currently, Chikezie is in the studio recording his first album due this year and touring throughout the Midwest and East coast with Melinda Doolittle, Gina Glocksen and Phil Stacy, from AI Season 6, until May 1, 2009.
Ramiele Malubay
Ramiele is unsigned but has released three singles: More To Me, Here I Am, and Kaya, the latter of which was written in Tagalog by Ramiele. These songs are available for purchase on Simpletracks. She has launched an international singing career in the Philippines and has appeared on several major talk shows performing “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me.” Go, Rami!
Michael Johns

On December 9, 2008, he released a song “Another Christmas.” Proceeds from the song were advertised as going to the Red Cross and MDA’s ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) division. Johns penned the song in 2006, when circumstances kept him from returning to his native Australia for Christmas.
Together with Rye Randa and Jeff Foxworth, he performs on the soundtrack for Shaun White’s documentary DVD Don’t Look Down. The soundtrack, which was produced by Johns, Randa and Foxworth, was released separately by Three Rings Project on January 20, 2009. It consists of 17 songs, 10 of which are vocal. Johns sings on all but one of these songs. He later secured a record deal with Downtown Records[18] with his debut single selling 5,000 copies.
His album, “Hold Back My Heart,” is due for release on June 23. He is signed with Downtown Records. He has released two singles: “Life Is Okay” with Brooke White and “Heart on My Sleeve,” which will appear on his album and charted at #27 on the Adult Contemporary Billboard chart.

my favorite bbq menu is pretty simple – grilled chicken or swordfish, or mahi when i can get it, grilled garden veggies, a nice garden salad, fresh fruit salads… my bf loves to do ribs and steaks, so we mix and match a lot depending on the occasion… but i love fresh grilled veggies like zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes… yum!

Hey guys! I am one of the ones who tried to bid on David’s table for the cook-off and my last bid was 350, but the people I was bidding against kept going and I would have had to bid 500 per ticket to stay in the running. So I am pretty sure that 325 is the cheapest they went. Obviously, I had to back down at $500 per ticket. However, I bought tickets to sit at Jack Murphy’s table (the head dj) and I will certainly provide updates, probably on twitter. I e-mailed the dj to see if cameras/videocameras were allowed and he never got back to me. But, I am going to try to at least take pictures and possibly make a video. I am super excited about it as I’m sure it will be a very entertaining and enjoyable evening!

Archiecrat if you are still here I have a recipe for you. Just let me say first that no these are not HOT.
take maybe 15 jalepeno peppers and slice them in half long ways. ( wear plastic gloves) scrape out all the seeds ( those are what makes it hot ) Plave each half on a tray.
Get a pkg of Jimmy dean maple sausage ( you could add garlic and basil and even shredded cheese or don’t add anything) knead it so it is easy to work with
Fill each jalepeno half with sausage.
Wrap each Jalepeno half with 1/2 slice of bacon.
Grill on Barbeque until the fat on the bacon is cooked and the jalepeno is tender.
People are always afraid to eat it because they think its hot and then once they taste it they come back for more!!

I’m really torn about the album content controversy. I remember,after I heard album one all the way through, my first thought was “there isn’t one song on the album that makes me want to get up and dance.” That’s not to say I don’t like the album, because I do, but “Zero Gravity”, for example, would have had me turning up the volume at a redlight and beating on my steering wheel as I sang along…carseat dancing! I think a mixture, at least, of both types of music would work. Only good dance tunes or heart-wrenching soulful ballads get radio play and radio play leads to more fans, who request the tunes at clubs, and on and on and on. Hate it when I heard that David (or his dad?) is already in a controversy with his label after such a short time. Of course, we aren’t in the meetings, but being that Jive is such a huge label, are they out to just make $$$ off of David at any cost, or do they actually have HIS interest at heart? I think a compromise is in order.
The acoustic cd and a danceable cd? I SAY LET HIM PUT OUT BOTH! I would love to have to different cds from David with different music. LOL!

140 Linda they should consider his interests although I understand that they want to make money off of him and when you are running a business if someone working for you isn’t doing something that you think will make money you have to change things but I really think that anything David sings will be successful I feel a nice mix would be good in case people didn’t notice the types of songs that David brought up (for example I’m Yours) are not exactly dancing rock edged music and they have done extremely well I think that the record should make decisions where David will do well but what he wants and what he enjoys comes first you always hate the stories where artists are saying that they always loved to make their kind of music but they aren’t as happy only going with the sound the company thinks will sell! I think a compromise is the best way to go because both David and the jive reps should get something on the album that they think will help David’s career I really wish jive could back David and support whatever sound he wants and their wasn’t so much controversy and I think personally that David’s songs are edgy enough for the radio whose fault is it that the dance songs (like Z Grav.) have not been released for sales and radio airplay! yeah I am not going to mention names but yeah that is NOT David!

i’m inclined to let david, and the people charged with making these decisions on his mgmt team and the label decide what type of album it’s going to be…. i trust his musical instincts, but he also is still too new an artist to really begin dictating a great deal of terms such as this to the label…. it just doesn’t work that way….. that type of artistic license and flexibility comes after a track record of commercial success has been established in the mainstream, and even then the label usually still has the last word…. i think david is older and wiser than last year, as is jive and his management team, so hopefully there will be a compromise met that meets david’s musical desires, and jive’s…. we fans have little to no say in the matter, and i’m not going to put or exert any pressure on david or jive to meet my expectations… i just want david to be satisfied with the end result, and for the end result to be satisfactory to the fans, and amenable to top 40 radio…. as a pop star and artist, it has to have songs released that will fit into that format, so i’m hoping the lead single is strong, is promoted heavily, and makes the type of impact needed to open the door a little wider this go round for more of david’s material to be played…

Last I heard Cook did not have a twitter account. I think he said it wasn’t his style or something to that effect. I doubt his account would say David cook won season 7 of American Idol……..I think this is someone else pretending to be him. Trying to make people think he has a twitter account. He won’t even do vlogs from what i heard. Don’t really know because I don’t follow him lol.
About David’s next album….Jive is going to make sure this album has songs that fit into the type songs they play on the radio these days whether we like them or not. And I don’t blame them. He needs to sell his album and his singles and radio play is a huge part of bringing in the sales……..and that is the main reason. I think his album is doing extremely well without any singles on the radio IMO. I am sure there will be songs on there we will love (acoustic) but I agree with Jive he needs to have lots of songs on there that are dance numbers and radio friendly especially this stage in this career. He is trying to get established and he has to do what they want for the most part. I love ZG so I am sure I will love a lot of the dance numbers….If they don’t release Zg to the radio and itunes I think that will be a big mistake…guess we will see. people I have let hear it that don’t even know David love this song and they said they would buy it and would love to hear it on the radio.

It can’t be easy for Jive though. They represent an artist who can flat out sing any genre and appeals to people ages 8 through 80!! What we think is a dream could be a nightmare for Jive! Hi all! So glad to see that David is back home in Utah after such a long time touring,etc. GG,I agree 1000% with everything you have said re: David’s second album. He really is still very new and he absolutely needs to have songs on his album that will get him back on radio airplay. That’s how he’ll gain new fans and earn money in the long run. I remember an interview on Jimmy Kimmel with Randy Jackson at the beginning of this current AI season where he said “it doesn’t matter how great someone’s voice is,they need to have songs that sound great and will be played on the radio.” I think he’s right too. We all love David and want him to be successful. I guess we just have to keep trusting in Jive and his management and it will all work out fine.

Astrid,you’re right. There’s not alot of truly great songs on the radio. I think it’s just that there are alot of pop artists that are more established than David is right now. There’s alot of artists that may not have great voices ie. Britney Spears, but the songs they sing are top 40 radio friendly with good beats and catchy hooks to them. They can also bring those people into the studio and use synthesizers,etc. that mask flaws in their voices. David doesn’t need synthesizers because his voice can stand on its own. He just needs a new song that will catch on and that program directors want to play on the radio.

archieluver, I literally almost passed out from the heat and humidity that is Pittsburgh at the end of July……. and David was sweating soooooooooo bad, he had no water, no shade , no cold compresses …… I was trying to hold this big white and blue umbrella over his head as he was signing but I almost poked peoples eyes out with it……. David has good instincts in choosing songs that will appeal to all age groups. The label cannot peg him for one type of music versus another. Songs such as Zero Gravity are good dance tunes loved by young and mature audiences. A balance between ballads, soulful songs and lively dance tunes may be a good mix for all.

Must be standard for the yearbooks this year – political and pop culture events that occurred during the past year, a great keepsake for years to come.
