Back Home in Murray

What must it be like to return to a high school where you used to be just another face in the crowd–someone who was shy around people he didn’t know well–quiet and cooperative in class–and now–and now–

GAH!  David Archuleta returned home to Murray High School today for his American Idol Homecoming (congratulations for making the Top Three, David!).

In case you didn’t watch the live stream, David treated us to “Imagine,”  “Stand By Me,” and  “Angels.”  Beautiful beyond words.

And the mayor declared May 9th to be David Archuleta Day! Woot!

I wonder if we’ll all be around next year, May 9th, 2009, to celebrate this?  Yeah, I think we just might.

    Hey everyone..came home for a little bit but have to go back to work :sad: I am having a hard time watching all the homecoming stuff!     FYI – On DA Day (it spells DAD!)

    If anyone is interested, you can make a donation to Invisible Children by buying a bracelet that is made in that country. It cost $20 plus a few dollars for shipping. I got the green one since it is the only one in honor of a girl. David has the white one (you can see it in all the UK videos) which is the original. Seems like I am wordy today and all excited.

    Sorry – I’ve been running all day! I met up with Karla down at the Gateway and we decided to head up to see how mom is doing. She is still sleepy after surgery, so we’ll go do stuff for the day and then check on her.

    We are headed over to have some lunch in the cafeteria at the hospital that my mom was at last week with my cousin Jenny and her daughter. It is right across the street from the high school. I told Brett we should get our cars nice and shiny because we are going to help carpool the families around later today. I think we’ll probably be taking them to the Jazz game where David will sing the Anthem tonight.

    I’m going to run grab lunch now. They have amazing grilled sweet potatoes and cheesecake. I love desserts! I shouldn’t really tell everyone this, but cheesecake is kind of like a guilty obsession of mine. Please don’t tell anyone….

    kimk, I thought about the same thing. David is learning something from everyone and picking the things that are “him”…for instance, didn’t he start jumping after Alex? I wonder if David would have been so comfortable with it if he didn’t have such an awesome band. Maybe Jive knows a little bit about what their doing. He learn from his band, McFly, all of the concerts he’s going to, and even Demi. The best thing is that he will ALWAYS be HIMSELF no matter what and he just keeps getting more comfortable in his own skin. I love it!

    It’s a beautiful, warm and sunny day in Seattle. Went to see Star Trek with my sons. Best movie I’ve seen since Lord Of The Rings!

    Planning on taking the boat to Seattle for lunch at Ivars tomorrow. It’s about an hour cruise from where we launch on Lake Washington…love being on the water.

    Laura yeah he is learing from them as well as just becoming more comfortable up there! I hope that they have everyone jump during Zero Gravity at the Demi Tour! It would be amazing!

    I am thinking he should release a single from the SECOND album (zero gravity please) right before he goes on tour (say June 15thish) Then he does the tour and releases the album shortly thereafter. Then he can do a Christmas album and release that around mid-November (November 11th again maybe) and then do a Christmas tour promoting both albums. (jingle jams and his own tour) I know that it keeps him busy but they did say a while back 2 albums in ‘09

    We are all sitting in a room here at Murray High School waiting to be shuffled out to the football field. I hope the weather holds out. It is supposed to be rainy and cold, but so far, so good. David and his family are back in another room with a few of his friends. They had Brett and I park around the back side of the high school because we will be traveling behind the limo to the Jazz game. I guess there will be some police cars escorting us. Should be fun…

    We all have on these orange shirts with black lettering that Murray had printed up for today. Crazy stuff. Today has been such a whirlwind. I need a nap, but too much going on. I got my camera ready.

    Okay – they are moving us outside now. We are in the gym and waiting to go out the doors. I can hear a ton of people outside. Last time I looked, the football field was full and the bleachers were full! As I look around the room, there is the Governor, the mayor, Big Budah, oh, the county mayor as well…. and then us…. what are we doing here?

    Opening the doors, we go out and they have a place for all of the VIP guests up near the front of the crowd right in front of the stage. I think I’ll wait back here by the door though and try to get some pictures when David comes out.
