Don’t Let Go freaks can blame Pastel for this one. She had one of these videos in mind and had to share. This song had really moved up quite a few spots on my ranked list of DA songs after seeing it live. He is INTENSE. “And I know how to save a life…” Sorry, but gotta THUD here for a sec. He just breathes this song. As one of the commenters on the Sayreville video says, “I wonder what it feels like to go where he goes.” And then BAM! He’s smiley and happy. Dang.

I am, by my definition, a casual fan. That is, I generally don’t care for trivia and have not got a single poster, but own a copy of his CD and would gladly fork out cash for concert tickets. When the news broke out that David was coming to Singapore, I bugged the local ticketing agency for details (making sure to disguise my voice every time I called) — but alas, David would come only for a promotional gig, not a full-blown event.
3 songs (as was the rumoured number) is better than nothing though — especially for me, who’d never attended a concert before — and so I cajoled my bestie into going down to Iluma with me.
Fast forward to today:
We arrive at Iluma at 3.30pm. It’s the most appropriate time, we think — not too early that we have to sit around for hours, and not too late that we have to worry about getting stuck outside the mall. We soon realise, however, that we have underestimated the dedication of David’s fans. A throng two hundred strong is massed at the mall’s entrance, whiling time away by screaming, cheering, and otherwise fanning themselves for relief in the humid afternoon heat.
My bestie and I roam the mall and take pictures with the giant banner that’s hanging from the ceiling. We aren’t lining up for autographs, so this is the closest we’ll be getting to David. As I whip out my camera to take a picture of the stage, a security guard comes hobbling up. “No photography,” he says, and all I can think of is “good luck enforcing that in the evening!”
A rather satisfying trip around the nearby shopping district later, we head back to the mall. To our horror the stage has been engulfed by a sea of people, and the barriers along the upper levels are taken up by fans, photographers, shopkeepers, jealous boyfriends. We settle for a space behind a family, complete with baby in stroller, who are all not very tall, and I thank the heavens for my foresight in wearing 4-inch heels today.
After a good deal of false alarms (caused by the emcee jumping onto the stage randomly and toying with our emotions and calf muscles (you know, when I tiptoe in order to catch a glimpse of the stage)), David finally emerges, almost bouncing in a delightful exuberance. He looks luminous. Possibly it is because of the million flashbulbs going off in his face, but I prefer to think it’s for a more ethereal reason.
I complain to my bestie that I can’t see anything. We agree that this is a time boyfriends will come in handy, but surely there isn’t time to find someone willing to sit us on their shoulders now. I suggest hopping onto my bestie’s back (she’s really tall), but she thinks I’m joking.
In any case, it isn’t necessary to see David to enjoy his performance. His voice fills the arena easily, and it isn’t because of the obnoxiously loud speakers. It’s obvious he’s a great singer.
He’s become a seasoned performer too — well-timed points and waves at the audience elicit explosive cheers and swoons. On my right, a mother of two frenetically waves; on my left, a 13-ish year old girl screams lyrics along to the songs. I’m content to stand there, not really seeing anything, but hearing enough to make the experience come alive.
By the second song — A Little Too Not Over You – my arms are burning from the effort of holding my camera up. Who knew a 5 ounce camera could weight 20 pounds? Surely everyone must be tired as well, but no one lets on with their fervent snapping. David hops around onstage and his energy is infectious; the audience screams and stomps in response, but our arms and cameras stay stock still.
By the third song, he’s thanked us twice. For the letters, the support, the welcome, the turnout, the sales, the experience, the weather, the trees, the sun. Well, not all that, but certainly the amount of appreciation would have covered the above and more.
All too soon Crush comes to an end, and before we know it he’s gone off-stage, and it’s time for the autograph session. Not intending to get one — wouldn’t know what to do with it anyway — my bestie and I stalk around the second level, peering down into the depths in an effort to see what a real life celebrity looks like. No such luck; I still don’t know. Perhaps when David comes back for a proper concert one day, I’ll find out for sure.

I was sooo excited to see David’s performance today. He is SO AWESOME. no other word can describe him any better. Fans in Singapore also get to see him perform PLAY THE KEYBOARD and SING A THOUSAND MILES. really once in a life time opportunity for us! :p

I just wanted to share some “smiley” pictures of him. he is everyone’s sunshine.
oh anyway, I did shake his hand and told him “YOU’RE SO AWESOME!” and he said “AW THANKS…”
his eyes are sooo breath-taking! so beautiful! (i’m one of the lucky fans that get the chance to shake his hands. lol)

Just wanted to share that when I saw David in San Antonio M&G, I didn’t know whether I’d get him to sign anything for me or my nieces. I placed 3 self addressed stamped Texas postcards in his giftbag in hopes he’d see ‘em, sign, and mail them. Needless to say David was able to sign items for me and my nieces so I had just dismissed ever getting the postcards. Almost a month later, there it was, I got my postcard with a “thank you!” from David. My nieces and a friends daughter did too! The funny thing is that their cards say thank you also, so they didn’t quite get it at first since I had not even told them about possibly recieving them, didn’t want to spoil the surprise or disapoint if we didn’t get them. My nieces recognized the signature right away, but I thought maybe my friends daughter would not, so I called them to see if anything by chance had come in the mail like a Texas postcard. “yes, there is a Texas postcard”. I explained that it was from David, and they both screamed into the phone…ouch! My friend was just so grateful that I would do that for her daughter, but it was not me, it was David. He took the time to notice the envelope with my quick note and he signed and mailed them! My friend’s daughter just celebrated her 16th birthday and it was the best gift she received. But she paused and said, “why does it say thank you”, hahahaahaha. I explained that it was in his giftbag so he was just thanking all of us thinking the gifts were from us all. So the postcards have a little story behind them now. So, everyone is happy and showing off at school, lol. Now David has to have a concert close to home so I can take them all, and not on a school night! I hope he keeps his promise to do so, haha. love ya’ll, just wanted to share.

I have to say that I LOVE the skinny tie with the shirt outfit. IMO David looks the best in that kind of outfit.

daffedot, I have no idea what I’m going to do there. I don’t have any particular talents, but I have a lot of compassion and energy. So, I’ll do anything. Just as RJ said, our concerns about David being so far away are hopefully unfounded now. My favorite part of one of the videos I saw earlier today was when David said “is there something in my teeth”. It cracked me up…it reinforces what I’ve always said …”he keeps it real” and that’s one of the most endearing qualities he possesses, in my opinion. Hope you all are doing well tonight!

Scott, I love James Taylor too! A singer who can just pick up an instrument & sing. No extra stuff to make the songs sound good. Another singer I’ve grown to love is Dennis DeYoung from Styx. A local Classis rock station(mega popular station) had Dennis on as a guest a couple of years ago & he just had a key board & sang right there in the station & it was incredible. Oh my…I just finished the last of the RazorTV interview. I have NEVER seen David so excited about Touch My Hand. How did I miss that? I guess the solo tour brought those feelings home. He loves it when we get excited when he sees us, and reaches out, and when we take pics. Wow…a born entertainer…not just a singer. An entertainer. With that attitude, his stage presence will just increase exponentially!

Heart…the interviewers were SO Patient. No one blasting him with questions at a rapid pace. I learned so much, and everyone does, when David gets to ramble a bit. But they had the benefit of time I guess.
His excitement over Touch My Hands was new to me. And I loved how he talked about how grounded other performers are, but they never make the news. So true!

Kristin, I totally agree. I loved it that the girl who interviewed david really allowed him time to thoughtfully answer the questions. We get such wonderful pearls of wisdom (i.e. re: family,fame,happiness, and values) when he’s allowed the time to get it all out! …I must admit though, the way a girl “fed him some food” the other day…well, I got a little nervous when he asked if there was something in his teeth…I thought one of those girls might run over and try to get it out! LOL I’m glad there was nothing~

My favourite interview on my ipod so far is the Washington DC interview during AI tour where he just sat there and rambled. Nine minutes of rambling. It was bliss!
