Idol Recap: The Season That Shall Be Known As “He’s No David Archuleta”
I have already confessed that I am an American Idol junkie, and I feel okay about that. David has stated that he plans to watch American Idol this year, so I feel good about recapping on FOD.
Season 8 will be more of the same, just like sliding into my favorite pair of comfy slippers. With the exception of Kara DioGuardi, nothing seemed different despite the typically overwrought statements from the media (“American Idol with a drastic new format!”)
I loved the fact that they aired the now famous YouTube video of the little girls shrieking and crying after David Cook was announced the winner. Funny stuff. Not really.
With the dawn of every new season, my family starts taking notes about our favorites, grouching throughout the entire show about the fact that AI doesn’t show every golden ticket winner. This season, however, my son and husband soon tired of my new complaint. Actually, it’s more like a mantra that I found myself repeating over and over again last night. I even started to annoy myself. So what was I saying?
“He’s no David Archuleta.”
And when one contestant attempted “And So It Goes” I had to stand up and repeat the mantra with emphasis about five times in a row. He’s no David Archuleta. Sigh.
Here are Jenny’s favorites so far:
Arianna Afsar: 16 years old and cute, cute, cute: brown hair and eyes, huge infectious smile, kind of like the female version of David Archuleta. And she’s a good soul: she started a program called “Adopt A Grandfriend” where teens get together and visit nursing homes. I wasn’t expecting much from her vocals, and when she announced that she was going to sing the bluesy “Put Your Records On” I groaned audibly. But out came a rich voice with a gorgeous tone. She was nervous and singing too fast, but she was fantastic. Early favorite for me, and I would hook her up with David if I could.
By the way, Arianna is no stranger to the music business. (Just YouTube her and you’ll see what I mean.) She has performed on TV and has sung for the Padres at least four times. More power to her.
Deanna Brown: 25, bartender from Seattle. Deanna is a petite blond with faded blue eyes and a thick southern accent, and right away I thought, “Oh no, not another Kelly Pickler.” But wow! Now here’s something off the beaten path. I can totally see her selling records (and I could see the dollar signs in the judge’s eyes). She sounds a bit like Amy Winehouse, but good, mixed with Janis Joplin, but sweeter, if you can imagine that. Picture credit to rickey.org.
Emily Wynne-Hughes: 21. Emily is a natural, stunning beauty with pink/blond hair and brown eyes. Just a gorgeous, gorgeous girl. She sang the horribly difficult “Barracuda” by Heart and just killed it. More dollar signs in the judge’s eyes. Picture credit to rickey.org.
J.B. Ahfua: 16-year-old from Utah. Already he has an edge with me, haha. J.B. has a pleasant voice that I suspect he can do much, much more with. He wants to help his family by winning this competition, which made his proud father turn from the camera, gaze out of the window, and cry. ‘Nuff said.
Michael Sarver: 27-year-old from Texas. I suspect that if this guy can relax and rock out and work the crowd, he’s going to be a sleeper for the Top 12. He’s a roughneck on an oil rig, and the fact that he’s a big brawny guy who can sing apparently threw the judges for a loop. For all of their music industry smarts, every one of them is heavily into stereotypes, which is amusing. Picture credit to ricky.org.
Stevie Wright: 16-year-old from California. This lovely young lady sang Etta James with enough soul to make my jaw drop. She should go far, and she has a natural look, like Kelly Clarkson before her Britney Spears makeover.
Other notables:
A young man who is blind, Steven McIntyre, made it through, but his voice is just average, and unfortunately, he sang the aforementioned “And So It Goes.” Ummm, that’s David’s song. I’m afraid to say that if he didn’t have the great back story, he probably wouldn’t have received a golden ticket. Hey, that’s not necessarily a bad thing! I wish him well.
And of course, Bikini Girl. She really epitomizes everything that has ever been wrong with this crazy show. Her voice was average and forced (as Kara demonstrated, she did not have the chops to sing the song that she did, which I now forget. And oh my goodness, can Kara sing! Holy cow! I hope she performs on the show). So Bikini Girl shook her assets and made it through to Hollywood, and then stalked Ryan Seacrest and “made out” with him for a few incredibly awkward, icky seconds. After that I had to go brush my teeth.

Tara’s Story:
The concert was amazing! It was so awesome to be able to see and hear David up so close! He was unbelievable! This was definitely the best experience I have had so far. David sang so effortlessly and he was so comfortable on stage. My favorite part was when he came back out after his set and sang “I’ll Be” a capella. He wasn’t prepared for it, but you wouldn’t even know. It was flawless! I love how he ran off the stage and said “I love you New York!” Too cute! I went to the meet and greet with other Archies. We only got to speak to David for about 15 seconds, but it was a great 15 seconds! I have some pics from that. We were not able to take pics with David, but I got some of him up close.
After the meet and greet, we stayed after for a little and chatted with Lupe and Jeff! They were so sweet to take the time to talk to us!
We finally left Hard Rock and waited outside for David to leave. A car stopped where we were waiting and rolled down the windows. It was David and his parents! He took the time to say goodbye to his fans! How sweet is he!? I have some great pics of David in the car with his mom and all the gifts he got.
What a night! It was amazing!
VADJ’s Story:
Last night was the best night of my life! I was lucky enough to be there to watch David completely rock out the Hard Rock Café. He totally owned the stage! I had many awesome experiences throughout the day and after the concert as well! I am sadly SLTMD (Still Longing to Meet David), but after being there last night, I’ll gladly settle for trying to meet him next time on tour! Where do I start?
Ok, so I took the express bus from Staten Island to the city all by myself because my girlfriend and friend were meeting me at the concert later. It was a lonely ride, but I was so excited, that I didn’t care. This is a random observation, but I noticed the bus went through a total of 6 red lights! Geez! So, I got to the city, and had to walk a few blocks to the HRC, but I kind of got a little lost lol It took me a little while to find it, but I did get there! It’s pretty sad I got lost as I’m from New York, but oh well. So it was about 2:45pm and I go into the HRC, but I’m completely lost as there are no people. I couldn’t believe no one was there yet. So, I’m walking around and I find the stairs that go down to the restaurant and private entertainment room. I see David’s picture posted, so I thought I was going the right way! I go all the way down the steps, and I noticed the press people were all there. I got excited because I thought I would get to see David! So, I walk right on by the empty line and enter the press area. I was so happy because I thought they let me in, but I was wrong lol They were like, “Hey. Wait, are you with the press?” I really wanted to say yes I am! Joanie suggested I should have said I was there with her, and I would have got in! Too bad I didn’t think of that! So I had to say no, and they told me that I couldn’t be back there. So, I was like where do I go? So, I asked them, and the lady was like the line is outside around the corner! I was like What! How was I supposed to know that lol So, I went around the corner and found people waiting there. There were only about 30 people on line when I got there, so I was very happy!
First off, it was FREEZING yesterday! The temperatures were in the 20’s with a light breeze! I immediately noticed the people from Rickey! They were playing David’s CD on their iHome, and singing to it! I got to meet them when I got on line. I asked them if they were from Rickey, and they said yes, and then I said I was from FOD! I said they are awesome that I watched their videos and that they do a great job of promoting David in the city! So, we talked for a bit and I took pictures for them and everything. Then I started texting pastel, and it was pretty funny because she was giving me updates when I was supposed to give her updates! Thanks pastel! You were very helpful! I mentioned the things pastel was texting me to others around me, including a girl from snarky’s, and they were getting so excited! I became their source, and they kept asking every 5 minutes any more David updates? Everyone was there for David. And I mean everyone! I felt kind of bad for Nolan, the opening act lol David waved from inside the HRC when he passed by the door and everyone went NUTS! lol So we finally got our tickets at 5, but they didn’t let us go inside! They made us wait until 6:30 to let us in!!! Everyone was under the impression that we were going inside to pick up our tickets. Boy, were we wrong!
We finally went in at 6:30, and the setting was very nice! I’ve personally never been there, and it was a very intimate setting! There were no seats, just standing in front of the stage! There may have been tables along the side near the back, but I ran to the stage so I don’t really know lol But, I saw the stage, and got excited because it was impossible not to get a great spot! I was lucky to get about 5 people from the stage, and somehow I managed to get up to 2 people from the stage by the time he performed Crush and I’ll Be! The crowd was so excited for David! The crowd was predominantly teens with their guardians and teen girls. The few guys that were there stuck out like sore thumbs lol The guy from the magazines came out and could not get a word in because everyone was screaming for David! He joked and asked if we wanted him to sing instead of David and everyone screamed NO! lol So, Nolan came out first, and he didn’t seem too young to me! I heard reports saying he was a teen too! No he wasn’t lol He looked like he could have been 25, and I looked him up, and he was born in 1986, so he is 22/23. He was a pretty wild performer lol He actually did a good job and the crowd was great for him!
Then David was announced, and the crowd exploded!!! He came out, and the screaming hit the roof, myself included of course! David started out with Angels, and man did he kill me from the start! I saw Angels on tour in Newark, and that was just amazing, but last night was incredible! David was perfect! In the second verse, he almost forgot the words lol when he said the word “and” in this line “And as the feeling grows,” he sort of extended the “And” and then continued. The crowd cheered for him at that split second. He did some major archu bouncing! He was really into it last night!
Then ALTNOY was next! That was outstanding! I loved it even more than the recorded version! His voice is just so clear and that “I’ll never understaaaaand!” part is my favorite! He nailed it! He was interacting with the fans A LOT by touching hands and pointing and he even held one girl’s hand for a while, while singing to her. Next was ATM! I loved it! I saw him do it at Jingle ball, but it was even better last night! In fact, everything was better last night of possible! The best part was the foot pedal incident! Ok so David is singing perfectly and then I saw his face change to concern and he said, “Is she ok?” right in the middle of the song! As a result, he got messed up with how his foot was set up for the keyboard pedals and just stopped dead in the middle of the song! He was like Wait, just a sec! That was PRICELESS!! David and everyone laughed and then he fixed himself and finished the song. After he said he hopes she feels better! I think a girl was crying. What a guy! He is so concerned about his fans that he sacrificed his performance! Even though it didn’t take away any part of it for me! It just proves that when David looks into the crowd, HE REALLY IS LOOKING. He is looking, but also observing as well! I know because I got a little taste as well. I was singing ALTNOY and then he looked at me quick, so I called out his name, and he smiled. That is just another great thing about David. Last was Crush and he rocked it out even before it started! They played Nolan’s music and David was confused at first, so he just busted out the moves! Everyone loved it! He is grown so much in a year and is losing all that shyness! Of course his performance was amazing as well! I got to get a hand slap too when he ran across the stage touching everyone’s hands!
So, he is walking after he finished Crush and Nolan’s music plays again! David stops and dances again!! He definitely knew what he was doing lol So then David’s set was over and everyone was upset. I thought he was doing 5 songs, so I didn’t get it. So all of us in the crowd started chanting DAVID! DAVID! DAVID! And we wanted more! Guess what? It worked!! David came running back out, and everyone went crazy! I couldn’t believe he was coming back out! It was definitely not planned because David said he was not planning that at all and had no idea what to sing! It took a while to choose a song because he said he was going to sing a capella! Everyone was shouting different songs like You Can, Barriers, Somebody Out There, and more. You Can seemed to get through, but you could tell he was a little nervous about that one because he said he doesn’t know because he has never rehearsed You Can like that. We all know David can sing anything and he would have been perfect! But he WAS going to sing You Can until someone said I’ll Be, and David heard it and agreed to it. This was the best of the night and it wasn’t even a full song! I’ll Be a capella was OUT OF THIS WORLD! His voice was crystal clear and right on point! I’ve never felt anything like that in my entire life! That was my first time hearing David sing a capella, and I hope it is not my last! He does not need any music at all, just his voice!
I really have to say, if you haven’t seen David up close, do it! Pay the extra money because it is worth it!! It is a complete different experience seeing him right in front of you in a smaller crowd than in an arena of 16,000! I prefer the David right in your face setting! Then, it was over, and I wanted to meet David, so I tried to see what was going on. I overheard security guards saying that there was a meet and greet line forming on the side of the stage! So, I headed over there, but when I went down the steps, I was stopped and asked if I had passes. Dang it! I said no, and then was forced to leave literally! The guy basically shoved me out of there! So, I had no luck and was SLTMD, but I had to try something! So, I went back downstairs and asked where the bathroom was, and so I started walking near the door where David was, and I ran into the guy with the magazine who announced David! I went up to him immediately and asked if David was doing a meet and greet even though I already knew he was. He said yes, so I asked if I could get in somehow or if he could give me a pass. It didn’t work though because he said that he couldn’t do that unfortunately. So, no David, but still an amazing experience! I later found out that the girl at snarky’s “half-met David” and her mom had a LONG conversation with Jeff! I should have stayed with her! I’m kicking myself for that lol But last night was the best night of my life, and it just put me in a different state. I don’t think I’ll be back to normal for a while lol
One more thing. A huge breakthrough happened! My gf loved David last night! She said he is so cute and is so nice and she said it about 10 times! She also said that you can just tell that he isn’t faking his niceness and that is just who he is! I was like FINALLY! lol She never disliked David and even wanted him to win, but she just didn’t get why I liked him so much. Now she is understanding! She even vowed to help me meet David. She said she will get passes somehow next time for me and try really hard for me! Two trying is a lot better than one trying! My friend only knew Crush, but by the end, she loved him too! She didn’t even know what he looked like, and after it was over she goes, he is hot and can really sing. She wants to meet him now! She also said that when David smiles, it is like the world lights up. There is still much work to be done, but it’s great progress!

Just wanted to throw in my two cents worth about last night’s AI premier. I don’t know about everyone else, but I found it extremely hard to watch. The piece they did in the beginning with the two Davids just got me choked up. I don’t think I will ever get over the results (I shall try my best to move on!) I thought it was so funny that they added the video about the young girls screaming after David Cook was announced the winner. I myself screamed that night. haha

I must say that I sat with my husband and two children and watched AI last night. I promised that I would have a good attitude. That did not last long! The words I kept repeating were “Are you kidding me?” with a roll of the eyes of course. I think my entire household knew what I was really saying. Like Jenny “They are no David Archuleta” I pretty much thought it was a joke and bikini girl disgusted me beyond imagine. Their were only two that I felt had potential, but still saw no star quality. Maybe I am just deaf to anyone that isn’t David, who knows. It was the blind guy that sang “And So It Goes” and as much I liked him and his story…He is definetly no David Archuleta. When he started singing, my daughter, *love her beyond words* , announced..”Hey that’s David’s song! He doesn’t sing it like David!” I didn’t even try to explain to her that it really isn’t David’s song, because to me if David sang it then he owns it. I just kissed the top of her little head and smiled.

I watched like 20 minutes of the AI premiere but I don’t think I will be as inspired like last year. I have watched faithfully every season but NEVER voted before and I voted my butt off for our David!!

The DJ said in order to get ALTNOY on the countdown show, it needs more votes… so I’ve opted to vote for ALTNOY exclusively there for the next few days, to up it’s chances…. this is something we have to keep in mind when faced the Crush or ALTNOY question… ALTNOY is beginning to rise, and get into Top 40 range, and when a DJ says something this specific about why it’s not being featured – REQUEST IT!

I wanted to thank you for the heads up last week about station WSTW-FM in Wilmington, DE and the throwdown with ALTNOY. When I saw your post, I couldn’t believe that I had forgotten about that station. Even though I don’t live in Delaware (I live in the Philadelphia suburbs, only about 15 miles from DE) that station is heard very clearly in parts of the Philly suburbs. So I now have WSTW on my David watch. I am still waiting for the Philly stations to add ALTNOY! Thanks again.

#326/Cyndip! I was “Meh” about last night’s show…. I watched, but the excitement and enthusiasm wasn’t the same as in seasons past…. I think last year was the pinnacle for me – David just captured the heart and imagination in such a way that I can’t quite get the feeling back this season… I wish the contestants well, but my energy and attention belong to the Crown Prince… it wouldn’t surprise me if the numbers in the voting this year are off or down because many others feel the same way…

I don’t think I’ve ever actually watched an entire audition round of AI before last night. I actually wasn’t planning on following AI much this season, but as of yesterday I’ve been made a judge for the current season of Idol Search (the online competition I won last season), so I’m somewhat obligated now.
I think it’s funny that Jenny referred to “bikini girl,” because that’s what I’ve been calling her since I first read about her a couple of days ago. I like to give all the contestants tags like that. We’ve got “blind guy,” “tattoo girl,” “closet guy,” etc, etc. No one last night blew me away, though I was most impressed by tattoo girl, and I agree with Paula – I see her possibly in the top 5 (definitely in the top 10). I don’t think they’ve ever had a rocker girl before that could really sing! I really hate the tattoos, but she does have a great voice.
Andrea/17: Totally agree with you. AI will never be the same for me as it was last season. The only auditions I am looking forward to seeing are the ones in Utah.
It’s probably good that I’m leaving for work. Seeing as how if I look at the screencaps anymore I will break with reality. David your pretty has hurt me.

I agree with everything Jenny said about American Idol last night. I’ve been watching since Season 1 so I had to tune in. None of the people who auditioned really blew me away last night but some had nice voices. I agree with her about the blind young man as well. Although his back story is inspiring and impressive his version of “And So It Goes” couldn’t touch David’s beautiful a capella during that song. I’m hoping that we’ll see a standout soon but I know none of them will be a David.

I couldn’t sleep last night. That isn’t good, because then my mind runs away with me. I went to a funeral yesterday of a young husband/father who died an accidental death. It was the biggest funeral I had ever attended. A young man played the guitar and sang “Rocky Mountain High”(he was raised in Colorado), “Time in a Bottle”, “Tears in Heaven”, and several others. The singer got an A for effort, but he just didn’t quite have the vocals down. I kept thinking what David would sound like. I made the decision that David will sing at my memorial service (no funeral for me). I know he won’t actually be there, but his music will.
My mind then wandered to David’s a cappella talents. I think it should become his signature ending to a concert. He needs to have 5 or 6 ready. Then ask the audience for suggestions. When he comes up with 2 that he is happy with, have the audience vote and he sings the winner. It will give him a chance to show his adorable way of chit-chatting with the audience, and audiences love to be a part of the choice.
O.K., so I need to go get some sleep, I know.

Update: ‘American Idol’ premiere ratings slip 10% as young viewers bail

The addition of a fourth judge didn’t help “American Idol’s” ratings. The show’s two-hour Season 8 premiere on Fox Tuesday gathered 30.1 million total viewers – still a very impressive figure, but a decline of 10% compared with last year’s premiere and the lowest “Idol” season launch since Jan. 2004.
With new judge Kara DioGuardi added to the familiar judging trio of Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, “Idol” averaged an 11.6 rating/28 share in the adults aged 18-49 demographic, handing Fox an easy victory for the night, according to early data from Nielsen Media Research.
Those are still numbers any competitor would kill for. But the “Idol” dropoff was particularly steep among young people, which have traditionally furnished the show’s base. Last year, “Idol” opened with a 13.8/32 in 18-49, translating into a 16% dip in that ad-friendly category. And the program lost one-quarter of its audience among adults aged 18-34.
Given that young people are often the first to bail on a program as it loses steam, these trends could mean that “Idol” is on the cusp of an inevitable ratings erosion this season and beyond. But then, it’s far too early to write off a show like “Idol,” which showed astonishing durability over its first seven seasons.
Meanwhile, competitors held up as best they could. CBS’ older-skewing lineup was only minimally affected, with “NCIS” averaging 18.5 million viewers and “The Mentalist” managing 18.1 million. CW’s “90210,” whose audience overlaps with that of “Idol,” averaged 2.2 million and a 1.1 rating/3 share in 18-49.

Last night’s appearance of BIKINI GIRL, represents American Idol’s “JUMPING THE SHARK” moment. The powers that be on Fox will look back at AI Seaon 8 and make this very assessment. But they will be a day late and a dollar short. I will bet the rent on this. Remember you heard it here first!
I am not a young viewer of Idol but the last few years I felt they needed to have mentors and songs a little more geared towards the younger generation. I think I am younger than some of the mentors and songs and I am old as dirt. Not trying to knock older singers or songs but if they want to capture the younger crowd they need a younger vibe.

Wendy I have been really just doing the DD stuff but just took the time and listened to Your Call by Second Serenade. I love the song but it would be a leap for David to sing that. Even more so then Barriers I think. I guess our David is growing up. I am also guessing major thuddom in the fan sites too as he would be spectacular at it. David singing that with an acoustic guitar. Makes me smile so very widely.

I just want to put in two cents that, I think David Archuleta is trying to move beyond the shackles of the AI ball and chain. He is looking FORWARD to a glorious and illustrious SOLO career as a singer, ….NOT looking back to the now-cheesy AI franchise. If we allow ourselves to become so bogged down in the AI swamp, we make David have to work all that much harder to rise above whatever happened on AI last season (and even this season)…..and MOVE FORWARD with his career. And that makes it harder for all of US to do what we come here every day to do…and that is celebrate DAVID ARCHULETA, the person, the singer, the phenomenon who brought all of us together. I can go to the AI web site to find out all things AI season 8. I WANT ALL THINGS DAVID ARCHULETA, (and maybe in the fine print we can discuss “that reality show”…the one where he got his start). Please tell me we are not going to have to follow AI closely this season. I am NOT looking for another IDOL. I have DAVID ARCHULETA! And, isn’t that what this site is all about, after all? I agree Joanie. I will keep watching Idol because I’m addicted, and I know that’s what gave David his exposure, but I really would like to almost forget that he was on there. I get annoyed when people still ask him about his experience on there. It’s like, never mind, just talk about HIM as a person, not the American Idol runner-up. #124 – It worked out fine though cause Ryan eventually explained what happened to the guy and gave him a high five. I like Ryan. He has a lot of empathy for the contestants and I think he is the right person for that role. That show always manages to have a few really awkward moments. That deja vu moment from Paula with Jason last season still makes me cringe.
I thought Ryan handled the “high 5″ very well. He told him he was going to do it, and I think he even grabbed his arm or hand and helped him, didn’t he? It wasn’t like he just said it and made the guy “find” his hand. Maybe I’m wrong. Why am I still here? I have work to do! Tell me to do it.

And you’re absolutely right in our desire to come here to celebrate and promote David, and his progress post Idol… we will continue to do that, but to be realistic, there is no escaping some Idol rollover as the season progresses – though we’re in no danger of ever putting that cheesefest ahead of the CP! hahahahha
David is moving/has moved FAR beyond Idol, but for better or worse, he will always in some form or manner be associated with the show… he’ll be recognized more and more on his own merits, as he continues to build his body of post-Idol work, but he, like Kelly Clarkson before him, and Carrie Underwood and Daughtry, they’ll always be inextricably linked in some way to the cheese fest that is AI…. they’ve tried, but even they can’t escape it fully –
As far as this season goes, I will tune in, but my heart ain’t in it… I’m deep in the David Archuleta bubble, and I ain’t leaving! But like all things, Idol is first and foremost a BUSINESS… there primarily to promote and sell products – the singing and competition aspects have become secondary… I think my desire to see David make an appearance this year is for him to capitalize on that HUGE audience that will tune in, that will go to itunes and buy Crush and his album, and that will once again be exposed to him…. How Idol capitalizes is their business, but if one appearance on that show translates into a bonanza of added promotion and exposure that helps him – I’m in.

My SIL is deaf and in now way, shape, or form does he consider it a handicap or even a minor inconvenience. It is more difficult for those of us around him that can hear then it is for him. I’m sure being a sign language interpreter makes me more sensitive to these situations.

Joanie I am with you 100% I have no reason to watch AI this season or any other. I found my Idol and need not look further. I am not saying anybody else shouldn’t. It is always your choice. I just don’t believe it is judged fairly and don’t want to be a part of the manipulation. I would like updates on Dean Kaelin’s daughter and wish her well. If she gets into the top 6 or so I may watch then but just for her. Dean has done so much for David so if I can help out his daughter I will.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents about AI and season 7, in my opinion I think people in general maybe giving AI a little too much credit for finding David, no–David made American Idol watchable, enjoyable and they needed him more than he needed them, I am just grateful that AI was able to expose David, but I won’t give them much credit beyond that, lol.
VADJ- I definitely understood what you mean. I felt the same when i went to Albany Jingle ball? did you go there too? Oh! He was so incredible in all his performances there.He didn’t mess up and just performed perfectly.I could say that the crowd in Albany were waaayyyyyy louder than HRC. The moment David showed up on the stage, the crowd really went nuts.Everyone was screaming for his name from the beginning to the end.You can hardly hear him singing.The screaming was insane. The roof wasn’t high at all and about less than a 1000 people.

3 of my kids were home from school and hadn’t left for activities yet, and my oldest son

by David, and me with big ol’ tears in my eyes. 6 people, 4 kids (17 down to 9), 1 family (and 2 dogs
moment ~ and how cool was it that we were sharing it with David (even though he didn’t know it)! LOL
I always vote for both songs. That would be coll to have them both in the top 20 on xm!
I’m going back to the build a bear thing again. We need to find someone who can sew and do replica outfits that David has worn for our bears.

Hi Joy How are you. I am trying to pack away my Christmas stuff here and am not focusing here. Hope to get done before I have to take it out again. Yes those pics are fantastic and he seems a lot older lately too. Very nice. If we were to compare a shot of him from his auditions to one of those there sure would be quite a noticeable difference.
Just my two cents Team.. and I’m off my soapbox about this issue…….. As always, Your Mileage May and Will Vary…. we all know this is a David centered site, a place to gather for all who are curious about him, have love, like and appreciation for him to link up, and express it in a loving and respectful manner…. I personally have no problem in sometimes delving into conversations and posts that may be a little off topic – it keeps the flow and discourse varied, and allows the posters, old and new, to share and express what may be on their minds at that moment with others.
These conversations, too, can help serve to build a strong community of people who feel safe and comfortable and welcomed enough to open up and share their thoughts and ideas, without feeling unwelcomed or chastised if they are not “adhering to the script”, as it were.
Not saying that this is or has occurred, but I do not believe in censoring or policing or efforts to mold or steer conversations that are respectful in their tone, language and intent, and are related to David in some manner… we’re all here for David, but I am leery of efforts that on the surface – on the surface – appear to condone some form of groupthink in order to post here…. though in order to call yourself a “fan” of anything or anyone, a certain amount of groupthink is necessary… but I digress….
Some of you will disagree with my point of view, and that’s OK… It’s MY point of view. Unless there is some sort of official group mission statement from the mods that clearly outline what can be discussed, or those topics not suitable to be discussed, and as long as people are doing their David duties diligently, are respectful in their language and of their fellow posters, I see no problem with what the mods put on the Front page, or what discussions or conversations may flow from those posts. Sorry for the length of this post, but this has been on my mind for a while, and today is as good as any other to let it go.

The xm20 link should take you to a request page, where you make a selection for the song you want to hear….as far as the polls go, VH1 is the most valuable, and is 1st priority in polls for me, then the AOL streaming and z100’s video stream… it’s a daily juggling act, but these three I make sure are highest on my list

I don’t usually go back and cruise through comments, no time really. However I did today, and joanie your “bikini girl jumping the shark” comment was hilarious! Anyways, as long as we keep things on the positive and moving in the right direction for David, I think were good. It’s hard to not comment about other things in our lives (weather, recipes, family, hens and roosters, lol) so I think it’s only natural that AI comes up ocassionally. I am just not understanding how ones forgets to vote. There are constant reminders on the front page and Beckys article tab is readily available for any and all to use. What was a real eye opener for me that links/requests were a little over the top was when Jenny posted that she was getting the feeling that commenters would rather posts links then read her comments. While it may have been said somewhat tongue-in-cheek, it was said none the less. And Becky has gone out of her way to make the site as user friendly as possible. Is the articles tab really that hard to find?? And how does one forget to vote…it has been an ingrained activity since the site was started back in August! Coming on the site after not being on for a period of time makes it almost impossible to make sense of anything when there are 100’s, yes hundreds, of posts with links. Leaving it as an option for the front page opens the door for any and all to post them. I say leave them on the articles tab! JMHO

Hi guys! Here’s another tip! You can actually open 2 completely separate windows and reduce the borders so they can sit open side by side. I have Jenny’s page open on the left side of my screen, and right next to it on the right, I have Becky’s articles page open. It’s just like looking at an open newspaper. It works great! Now if I can only get the beautiful new tab box to “blow up”. I thought I would be Ok because I have IE7 not iE 6, but it’s not working. I am going to go back through the posts and find the directions for downloading the flash player.I really want to start using it!

kristEn It is hard to compare the two because it was a completely different setting, and that truly makes a big difference. I think both on tour and at the HRC, David was absolutely perfect. I liked the HRC because I was able to be right up near the front of the stage with David singing two feet away plus I got to hear “I’ll Be” a capella! I also like the arena because there are a lot of people screaming for David so the whole place is going crazy, but like I said, I would prefer the David in your face setting!

It’s like 2 big separate internet boxes side by side which is different than opening one big
internet box and then within that one box clicking to open separate tabs. Does that make
any sense? Oh, and once you have both big boxes open, you can just reduce the extra margins
so they can fit side by side (both open) on your computer screen. Sometimes I do this also
in the late evening so I can go between comments and chat and still see both!

409/pamtimmie – YES!! Twice at the buses and once at an after party. For my last concert I decided at 3:15 that I would go to the Ft. Wayne concert that night. I bought my ticket online at 3:30 and was on the rode by 3:45. I drove 3 hours to the concert by myself. When I sat down I looked over at the person sitting next to me and it was a FOD VIP. I introduced myself and she asked who I was with and I said no one. She said she had one more after party pass, would I like it. DUH!!!! I screamed inside. Also, sitting in front of us was Lupe and the Hales. It was a fabulous night. I didn’t get out of the party until midnight and got home at 3AM. My husband was not too happy. He really didn’t like me driving across IN in the middle of the night by myself. But it was SOOO worth it.

…so When I turn on my computer, I click the Internet Explorer Icon to get a window open. I
make the margins a little smaller and moved it to the right side of my screen. I have a “favorites” tab
with FOD right at the top. I open it to the FOD front page….then just leave the whole page open~
Then I go back to the left side of my background screen where the icons are
and do the same thing to completely open a new I E window. It’s sort of having 2 separate
houses side by side. YOu can do 2 completely different things in each window while still being able to
see what’s going on in the other “house”.

I was talking to some co-workers the other day about an OCD thing I have and I said ODD – it sounded so natural that I thought nothing of it until someone corrected me! THen I just laughed at myself and told them what ODD means!

All I have to say is that when I saw him live I went home and I KNEW FOR SURE that I was in trouble and I immediately got on the internet and bought even more expensive tickets for the next night. Now I have been nearly squashed to death in a mosh pit and frozen to death on the capitols stairs and I cannot wait for an opportunity in the future. I CRAVE seeing him live. It would have been so much fun to have known all of you back during the idol tour to be able to meet up for concerts. For the Cleveland concert I did meet up with a Canadian fan that I met here on FOD. We still are in touch.

kristEn Well, most of my friends are not into pop music and are more for the rock genre, but they don’t see me being a fan of David any different from them being fans of someone else that they like. However, I have gifted a few songs, Crush, ALTNOY, and especially Desperate to a few of them because they heard those and they loved it!
